This is a number book. It uses animals, insects, fruits, and vegetables to teach children how to count, add, multiply, divide, subtract, and the terms less than, more than, equals, even, odd, and numbers in sequence. It is a good book to connect math to the real world. The whole book does not have to be read at once. If the students are not at the level to multiply or divide, then the book can be ended after addition and subtraction.
Activites:
1)Read the book to the class. While reading, engage the students by having them count, and giving them problems to solve on various pages. Have the students think of objects in nature that they can use in math. Then have them create their own problems. Have the students get into pairs, and let each other try to solve the problems they came up with.
