Natural Resource Economics: An Introduction

Rate this book
People make decisions regarding the use of natural resources every day, from the individual recycling a sheet of paper to governments of large nations creating energy policy. Those decisions ultimately affect people around the world. Their motivation and results are best framed and analyzed using the tools of natural resource economics. Field presents the methods and applications of the discipline in the latest edition of his popular text. The updated book retains its successful structure, first presenting basic economic principles as they apply to natural resource use and then examining the economic issues surrounding individual resources. New material is included energy demand and efficiency; nonrenewable resources; individual transferable fishing quotas; water pricing; agricultural cropland programs; and the Endangered Species Act. Also by Barry C. Field and available from Waveland Environmental An Introduction (ISBN 9781577664284). Titles of related interest also available from Waveland Chiang, Elements of Dynamic Optimization (ISBN 9781577660965) and Gramlich, A Guide to Benefit-Cost Analysis, Second Edition (ISBN 9780881339888).

It is a decent book I think. There are other books that are better than this book, but it does not imply that this book is bad.

Of course I read this book because of a college class, I am only adding it here because I literally read every page and wasn't required to. Textbooks are often uninteresting, and wordy but I actually appreciated this book so I wanted to give it some credit. It's the only textbook I have ever wanted to keep for future reference and research.

Good overview - solid, clear, and concise. Well-written and well-organized with plenty of examples. Neither confusing nor simplistic.
