Relationship Rx: Insights and Practices to Overcome Chronic Fighting and Return to Love

Rate this book
Rescue your relationship and reignite love with hands-on tools and real-time solutions

Why do couples fight? Here’s a hint—it’s not about who puts the dishes away. "Conflicts with our primary partners are rarely about what we think they are," teaches renowned psychotherapist Stan Tatkin, "An invisible host of factors in our brains and bodies plays into every encounter we have." With Relationship Rx, Tatkin unpacks the real causes of common relationship challenges with humor and compassion, offering a comprehensive program to help couples restore and sustain the love that brought them together.

A nuts-and-bolts program to heal your most common relationship challenges

Throughout Relationship Rx, Tatkin focuses on the real-life conflicts that all couples face —money, time, chores, sex, kids, betrayal, decision-making, and more. Drawing from his Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy® (PACT), Tatkin teaches us how our attachment styles, nervous systems, and unique backgrounds impact every interaction we have. "We’ve come so far in our understanding of the human condition, how we’re wired, and our relationships," Tatkin says, "Using this new knowledge gives us the power actually to change the way we relate instead of just wishing things were different."

Through targeted lessons, practical tools, and sample dialogues with Tatkin’s insightful commentary, couples will learn to heal past conflicts and navigate even the most contentious topics with understanding and respect. Whether you’re tired of little misunderstandings or are in full-on crisis mode, Relationship Rx will help you find relief—and real love—once again.

Excellent. One of the best resources I’ve encountered on relationships. This is an audio experience with very realistic couple scenes acted out to illustrate his points. As a couples therapist I’ve read his other books and have never loved his writing style, but he comes over really well in this audio presentation. I love how he brings in neurobiology and attachment as his foundation. I found this personally helpful and will definitely recommend to clients.

My partner and I are huge fans of Stan Tatkin. We listened to this audiobook together as advised. His words always hold relevance and importance and are so helpful. While the information wasn’t necessarily new from his previous books, we valued the format and layout and it was a great refresh. We would recommend this to any couple at any stage.

This was good, but not as powerful as Your Brian On Love. This is more a shotgun approach to the most important stuff of keeping a relationship going. I felt like the first half was good, he develops his analogies of attachment theory and uses them throughout, but I felt like the second half was good, but not great. I think the best takeaway I got from it was that in everything in relationships the couple/relationship is the most important thing and you both have to protect the relationship always. So even if you are mad and disappointed or whatever, you still must put the relationship as very first.

My favorite book of his on relationships since he gives examples in the form of actors roleplaying, which I found beneficial as it helped me hear his principles in action. Still a ton of science jargon of which I’m not a fan, since it makes the content dry in my opinion, but a phenomenal book all the same. Highly recommend to any looking to better understand their spouse and navigate difficult conversations.

Tatkin is brilliant. He's not doing anything complicated or new, he's just focused on being present. I'm in a strong relationship, both with my partner & myself, but I found excellent advice for dealing kindly with both in this one. It helps to have read the others but I think this one is my favorite so far.

Insightful. Life saving in ways I didn't understand before I read it. Read this book if you are in a relationship, or even want to be in one. Things we should know before we are even out of the gate in relationship.

This was a good book on audio. Almost too much to take in at once. Will have to listen to it two or three times to have it really all sink in. Lots f formation on how we attach and how to manage relationships with different types of partners.

Good, helpful content. Very weird delivery. This isn’t an audiobook, it’s more like an expert sort of rambling off the cuff about various topics. Could have been half as long without losing any of the value.

If I could give this a 0 I would. Overall has some problematic stuff in it and I will not be recommending it to any of my clients.

Favorite part was the thorough attachment overview! Book had good points but I guess not entirely applicable right now. I like the idea of a couple bubble.
