Unfortunately, I can't even give this book a rating. I forced myself to read this book in its entirety and I can't remember a damn thing that happened. I truly can't.
What I can remember is that I did not connect with any of the characters nor the plot. The characters were so back and forth with their interactions with others and their actions, that I got whiplash. In one scene, the female character refused to mess around in her parent's house because she did not want to get caught, but in another scene she was acting like a voyeur. Yes, her sex partners were different and made her feel different things, but I find the drastic changes just too much, especially at her young age. It was like she had a split personality.
As for the plot - totally drug this shit out. The main character is expected to act one way, but wants to go another. I found myself skimming almost every scene because it was overly descriptive and killed the whole vibe. Don't get me wrong, I love descriptive books (perfect example The Debt ). But the way this was written, it almost felt like filler. I'm guessing it was suppose to help build her relationships with this certain character, but I just didn't feel that.
I really wanted to love this book. This is the first Kailin Gow book that I have not truly enjoyed. The sex scenes were ok - they were not her best. And it's because I just couldn't connect to anything so everything was just meh.
This could be just one of those bad timings for me, but I don't foresee myself re-reading this one anytime soon.
It's been awhile since I read a book by Kailin Gow. I think I was getting a little disillusioned with the books because I was reading them too quickly. After taking a step back and venturing into other books and authors I came back with this offering.
Here's what I thought. I liked the story line for the most part. I immediately responded to Salvatore, didn't care for Chase (what a douche), and liked Taylor but was irritated with some of her choices. Let me elaborate. It irks me when a female character can't make up her mind and comments on the confusion of her feelings so does stupid things. I knew right away that Salvatore was the better choice but for Taylor she couldn't get out of her head. It was exhausting.
I think I was more satisfied with the second part of the book. Taylor seemed to have matured a little bit more. She wasn't as wishy washy with her feelings. She had a purpose and that made a difference. Salvatore was still a strong character and I loved his attitude.
The story of Olivia from the past was interesting. Kind of paralleling where Salvatore and Taylor were coming from in their relationship quest. I became intrigued with that.
Overall it was a great read. It always is when you can get involved and come out with strong feelings one way or the other. I think I am ready to venture back into the worlds Kailin creates. I have had enough time off that I can read the books with a fresh perspective. Welcome back.
In this standalone novel Taylor is a daughter of a high profiled import/export businessman and dating Chase a very prominent senator candidate. As far as there families are concerned they are the perfect match. The problem is Taylor is finding out about Chase's infidelity and now is face to face with a Italian hottie in her parents kitchen. Salvatore is staying with the First family and his parents are clients of Taylor's father. Taylor is now confused about her feelings and now her father wants her to tutor Salvatore and show him around town making it even harder. Soon family values take priority over Taylor's feelings and now she must decide on what life and path she chooses even if it may hurt her family. This book lets you travel through different places and culture and brings you into growing up and the strength to fight for what you want.
Description: Standalone Contemporary Coming of Age novel as well as a story of liberation. A passionate forbidden love and scandal develops that threatens the perfect life of a prominent political family. A compelling novel that is brilliantly written & developed with no plot holes. With sensational characters that are realistic with real emotions & flaws. With vivid descriptions of the historic DC community to the Italian Countryside you feel like your right along with Taylor on her journey. This novel was intoxicating to read as the storyline was stunning & the characters were marvelous. A sexy spicy novel that I could not put down & was at the edge of my sit waiting to find out what would happen next. With a perfect ending to this wonderful novel I highly recommend reading.
This book started out good, and then proceeded to keep getting better and better until there was no way I was putting it down. It is a wonderful story of love versus family and society expectations. Now, there were also some really sizzling hot scenes. So, I was already loving this book, when it went to Pompeii. That just took the rating from a five star to a 5+. I have always been very interested in Pompeii since I used to teach about it in my science classes. Even if you are not interested in that part, remember it was a 5 star book before it, so I highly recommend it.
I read this story as part of the arc team. This book is so romantic! I think Salvator is a dream. I am very fond of Taylor at how strong she is. I would love to read more about these characters. Maybe one more book? Please
