Six years with my knight in shining armor.Four years with my knight in dented armor. Two years with my knight in rusted armor. It is time to make a change.Time to find myself, even if it scares the hell out of me.I, Makenzie Mayfair, am leaving my husband. This is my chance to begin again, to rip my backbone out and yell, “I’ve found it.” It may take time, it may take new friends, a job and even a jerk of a boss who is annoyingly handsome, but I will get there. I'm determined to be who I want to be, and plan to have a whole heap of fun along the way.
A curvy woman... yes, please! A hot alpha male who likes to boss her around... yep, that's in there too!! Our heroine going through some trying times and having to step into her own... we have a winner!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted RomCom by Lila Rose. I'm not going to write an in depth review for Making Changes because I'd run the risk of giving too much of the story away. Just know that this book is a whole lot of fun, it was sexy when it needed to be and it was also very sweet. It was everything I wanted in a romantic comedy.
Cheeky re-read before reading Making sense. Re-reading cause I need some humour in my life.
Everyone needs this book. After having the most shitty few weeks, I have to say this book has cheered me right up.
A curvaceous gorgeous lady... check. A asshole bossy alpha... check. Absolutely filled with fucking hilarious verbal diarrhoea... check. A heroine who's been through some shit but finds herself and comes back swinging... check. Oh and some super hot sex!.
What more do you want????!!
Oh wait. The story itself it fucking top notch also.
No I'm serious. Even after that major gush fest I just had ^^^^^^^. The story is seemless and written to perfection(well for me any how). Not once was I bored or becoming disinterested. I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed like that with a book. It's has little of everything... you have a great romance that isn't just wham bam in your face(although I do love those to). It's a great built up were you get to learn about the characters in more depth. Everything feels so believable even the far fetched eccentric shit. You only get the heroines POV which in any normal case would have me feeling a little disconnected with the hero however it's definitely not the case here. Makenzie's head is my new favourite place to be. The girl is a fire cracker in all the best ways. Her random out bursts take me back to reading Hawks MC (by the same lovely author) and Julian and his crazy antics/outbursts. That to this day is one of my all time favourite series because of its unique twist of romance and humour. I'm happy to say for me anyway that this author got it so right with this story. She writes everything I want in a book and I devour it quickly and pine for more when it's over.
I haven't gone to much detail because honestly it's just better to read it without knowing anything. It's not that there's massive surprises it just one of them stories you that you can't help but love the more you read. I went into this without reading any reviews etc because I know she's one of the few authors I love regardless of what she write.
Like I said it has everything init. The side characters only add more value to an already great book. You fall for everyone in here and want more once it's finished. This will definitely be a constant re read for me and a definite favourite. Definitely worth the 5stars and more.
Happily suprised by this book, came across it by chance and am very glad I did. Lila Rose has created a story with a nice dash of humour.
Wish the people who said snide things to the heroine had some ice water thrown at them but sadly that didn't happen. Also wish the hero hadn't been so silent at the start when he heard people say crap to her.
-This book was highly recommended and if you’ve read any of my reviews I am ALWAYS on the hunt for a good BBW romance. Like anybody else, I like being able to relate to the characters in a romance in more ways than one. I love diversity and I love big girl lovin’, that’s just how I roll. So from jump, this was queued up for me to love. I don’t know about loving it, but I did like it.
-The sitch is pretty standard. Makenzie has had enough. She’s spent six years with a jackass of a husband who doesn’t appreciate her and runs her down every chance he gets to make himself feel good. When she decides to leave him, she meets Dylan Jackson, who she thinks is gay, and he gets her a job as a live-in assistant to his brother Grayson. Big, broody Grayson who has a very expressive eyebrow and quirks his lips and smirks to communicate. Alot. Of course, she takes the job, time flies by and (wacky) romance happens.
-Unrealistic fantasy. This is firmly in the romantic comedy slot, so not all will love the heightened situations set up for comedy’s sake..The hero is your typical broody not talkative sort and there’s the slightly ditzy, hot-but-doesn’t-know-it, heroine. Of course, what’s a stereotypical protagonist without their stereotypical antagonists - the douche of an ex and the harpy sort-of ex-girlfriend for the hero. Seriously, you can’t throw a stick in this tale without hitting a stereotype, and there’s the convenient isolation setup for the hero and heroine, jealous encounters to showcase his feelings, and so on. This is all first person POV from Makenzie, and she’s clueless, so you need everyone else telling her what’s the what because she just doesn’t see it.
-Funny not emotional. There’s an emphasis on the comedy rather than the feels and it’s cute. Most of the humor in this story comes from Mackenzie’s Bridget Jones-like persona. She’s verbally incontinent, unable to function in social settings without doing something adorably awkward and generally awesome in that Mary Sue way. Literally EVERY man in the story, except her husband and her dad, love/want/covet her. She’s described as curvy/big girl, but it certainly felt more like her perception than reality.
Anyweigh, let’s carry on. Of course, she’s a great singer but too shy to do anything about it, she’s adored by many except for the jealous shrews who want Grayson. It all felt a bit over the top, but I was in the right mood and willing to roll with the fantasy for what it was.
3.25 stars I liked this romantic comedy, though it’s drawn in pretty broad strokes, which may not be to everyone’s taste. If you’re in the mood for an ultimate, curvy girl Mary Sue kind of romance, you may enjoy this.
Mackenzie Mayfair gave up everything for her husband and in doing so lost her way, she has had enough of being belittled by him and wants out. Deciding she has had enough she leaves him and on her way out the door meets Dylan Jackson who offers her a job and new start at his brother Grayson's job.
Not sure if she made the right choice, Mackenzie goes for it and even though her boss is surly, handsome, and hard to read she is loving her new life. Could Grayson see Mackenzie as more though then a secretary? Clueless about her beauty or magnetism Mackenzie is about to find out.
This was highly entertaining. Laugh out loud funny, Mackenzie is a motor mouth who doesn't always realize that she is speaking out loud. Loved Grayson, slow burn romance and a book to savor.
I knew the author could write comedy, but she perfected it with this book.
What did I like about it? *Curvy girl *Hilarious *A nice, well written romantic build up where I didn't get bored! *Great writing *Wonderful character development *Great story development
It is time to make a change. Time to find myself, even if it scares the hell out of me.
I, Makenzie Mayfair, am leaving my husband.
Hero was a bit of a douche. He was possessive and horrible... and Mackenzie went from one unhealthy relationship to another. And there's also the fact that all of a sudden every guy she meets wants her. I love books about curvy women but I want it to also be realistic. How can every guy she meet think she's attractive? Every one wants different body sizes. So i just thought it's weird that all of a sudden, every guy likes her (Randal, Grayson, Ethan, Monty, random waiter, Ryan, Hudson) seriously?
Really I am not a fan of super unrealistic books. When I say unrealistic I mean where all the characters all fit in nicely into their perspective personal traits. Where there are no obvious fault with the heroine, except whatever life had thrown at her.
I was so frustrated with the obvious build-up about how amazing she was the heroine just ended up annoying me. There are a lot of good reviews for this book, but sadly it is just not for me.
I think it would be more like a 3.5 star rating for me, it's mainly bumped up to 4 just by virtue of being so damn readable (I finished it in one sitting)! I laughed out loud more than once, and I fell a bit in love with the characters. That said, Kenzie did get a bit on my nerves and make me roll my eyes at times. Happy it had an HEA and I truly enjoyed it, I want to know where I can find a Grayson of my own! :p
Enjoyed everything about this amazing read , Lila Rose did such a beautiful job at showing how the heroine and even the hero grew as the story progressed . The secondary characters are just the best hope to hear more about them .
hero = 10 heroine = 10 secondary characters = 10 Chemistry = 9 steam = 8 romance = 7 humor = 8 darkness level = 3 enjoyment = 10 angst = 3 action = 3 story line = 10 mystery = 3 character development = 10 pacing = 10 Plot = 10 cover = 10 stars = 5 author = 10 would I recommend this book = yes would I re read this book = yes would I read future books by this author = yes
This book would make a really cute rom-com movie, it's light, has some very funny moments and is a tad too OTT. In spite of that I unfortunately can only give it 3 stars. It had so much potential but sadly it fell short with one dimensional characters that seemed almost like cartoon characters and a storyline that was way too simplistic and situations that were so OTT they were laughable, and not in a good way. There were a few scenes that really had me LOLing and those scenes saved the book. I just wish the author had put a little more creativity and depth into the story. The world really could use more badass plus size heroines, and this one canes across as just too amateurish for my taste.
Making Changes by Lila Rose Book Lovers, I think I have found that book! You know that book, that book you must have in all forms. If you all remember I found that book last year, it was called When Nothing is all you’ve got by Kirsty Dallas.
When I first seen the cover to Making Changes, I was already in love with it, can that even happen? Meh! I just knew from the get go I was going to love this story, I mean COME ON! Have you seen this cover, a beautiful curvy woman on the cover? What’s not to love!
Makenzie Mayfair has been treated like a doormat, for long enough! She is taking back her life, and going to leave her husband… once she gets the nerve to stand up and do it! Her douche of a husband is the biggest piece of scum of a man I have ever read about, I truly wanted to throat punch him. When they first meet 6 years ago he seemed to be caring, and sweet and everything Kenzie thought she wanted or needed, not realizing this piece of sh*it was moulding her into someone she never wanted to be. Robert would put her down in the meanest of ways. At dinner with her soon to be ex, she as this moment she knew she wanted to be someone else, be herself she needed out. She needed to find herself again. In one moment she stood her ground, got up and leaves to start her new life.
Watching Kenzie grow into her own person again was beautiful, her transition from always having so much self-doubt to this strong independent woman who took no shit was outstanding!
“There, take that, you prick on a good-looking stick.”
At 10% I knew I was going to read the whole story in one sitting and I did, at 15% I couldn’t stop laughing, legit this was the funniest story but whilst funny it was empowering. It had all the feels. When I reached 35% I was gone, I had the leaky eyes from laughing so much, I had a sore jaw from the smiling and again the laughter. I have come to adore romantic comedies; I could even say that they are my #1 favourite to one click. Kenzie meets Dylan, who is amazing! He was at the right place at the right time, he helped her get a new job with *cue* Mr Grumpy Alpha Grayson Jackson, that’s Dylan’s older hot brother who is just exciting to read about. Kenzie becomes his personal assistant; he can never keep one long enough to deal with his grumpiness his demanding ways. I think it was fate for these two/three people to meet, I just LOVED this story! Even though Making Changes is in one POV, Kenzie’s. I felt that we don’t need to be in the guy’s head, when in fact this is about Kenzie finding herself again, we are here watching her become the women she was always meant to be.
Did I tell you how much I loved Grayson, he is going to be one of my new fav book boyfriends, I think that list is forever growing. I loved everything about this story, best night in I have had all week. I love laughing so hard, your close to peeing yourself, or laughing so hard you wake the kids up… thinking I could contain my laughter and taking it to another room was most likely the worst thing I did, it just echoed! So worth the book hangover, the late night and all the coffee.
“Why aren’t you looking at me?” he murmured against my temple. “I’m all snotty and gross.” I liked that I could feel his chuckle as well as hearing it. “I’ve seen you on cough medicine. Nothing else could faze me.” Lifting my head, I laughed. “True.” “Ah, no, baby. Hide your head, you’re hideous.”
Her Dad, Trent is a hoot, fierce and loves his daughters unconditionally.
“Jellybean, I need some men. I’m horny. Can you go to the shop and get me some men. Bring home any kind….”
You got to love when parents do the texting these days, and with autocorrect failing us all this was the funniest thing ever!
Dylan; he was her knight in charming Armor, even though this isn’t the brother for her, there friendship is fun and easy and exactly what she needed. They were meant to meet each other and for him to get her a job with Grayson. “You would be helping him keep his women, who work the streets, safe and you’ll also be making their appointments with their clients for them. You just have to approach the cars first.”
Her sister Lori. Shy and timid but I loved their sisterly bond. “Some things are meant to happen for a reason. Maybe, just maybe, you were meant to waste six years with him to finally find yourself”
Grayson; Hot alpha, sexy, strong, and loves Kenzie’s quirkiness. I loved their banter, I loved watching them fall head over heels for each other.
I loved them all, I couldn’t stop reading. I have said that already I know, but seriously it’s so good! I loved the way the story flowed and the way Lila wrote was fabulous. Her writing was so well done that I could easily visualise them all. “Wait one cotton pickin’ minute. I’m annoyed with you, you big bossy…boss.” Whilst writing this review, just laughing along with what I’m trying to explain is so hard, I hope everyone will go grab themselves a copy and just stop and read it. I think it’s one of the best rom/coms I have read. I mean who gets high on cough medicine? Lol Kenzie is a hoot when she is being herself and I would recommend this to everyone and would totally re read this again and again!
“Only you can make me laugh, even when I’m turned the fuck on. Only you can roll your eyes at me when I’m yelling in your face, and I find it cute instead of firing you…” Here; I already have the link for you to one click, you are one step from laughing yourself silly falling in love.
I debated finishing this one. I really liked it. It's really funny. The heroine and Dylan are hilarious. I wish that it was stated that the hero didn't have sex with the ow after meeting Kenzie, but it's not, so I don't know for sure. He does say that he wanted her gone after meeting Kenzie. Never have to read about sex with op. I did finish it because I really loved the h. She was so funny. Really think she made the story. Great read.

It's been a while since I've read one of Lila Rose's books, and up until this point, I've only read her MC romances – all of which I've loved. Making Changes is a huge departure from her biker series, and it was such a fantastic surprise to see this side of her writing abilities. I enjoyed this book so much!
Makenzie Mayfair is a curvy girl who was always comfortable in her skin, until six years with Robert, whom she met in college and then married, whittled away at her self-confidence. Wielding his words like a weapon, he dealt Makenzie frequent doses of verbal cruelty. An epiphany of epic proportions at the most inopportune moment helps Makenzie to realize what her fate in life would be if she didn’t make some big changes, and she didn't waste a single second getting started on that journey. Fate can sometimes be a funny thing, though, but for Makenzie, it put exactly what she needed, exactly when she needed it, right there in her path.
Makenzie had tons of fire and spunk, and I absolutely loved all of her unfiltered reactions and comments. Making Changes wasn’t just about a woman finding herself and her voice again, it was also about a woman who was rebuilding her life and making room in it again for a career, for her family, for friends and for love. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments in this book that I often had tears streaming down my face as I read it. Makenzie and Grayson were perfect together, and their back-and-forth bantering coupled with their sizzling chemistry was romcom gold. Everything about this book was superb, from the inspirational plot to the sweet, sexy romance to the side characters along for this ride, but, it was Makenzie who really stole the show.
As hot as it was humorous, this book kept me smiling and happy from cover-to-cover. I love romantic comedies, and Making Changes is a truly great one that gets five smooches from me!
This might be the bestest romantic comedy I have read. It was so unreal and so funny. The build up was hot and sexy and had its sweet moments as well. You'll be left with tears in your eyes with laughter. Mackenzie is not someone you will come across , she is one of a kind and I would love to have her as a best friend, Kenzie has no filter what so ever. When her and graham meet, I was like Damn your so arrogant. But the build up was amazing and when this couple gets it on, it's like boom , fireworks exploded. The scenes in this book were like tingly and sparks flying in your pants. It was hot. I loved how the author shows that not all drop dead gorgeous guys love skinny barbie dolls but they like the curvy ones as well . Come on be realistic guys , you want a bit of meat to grab onto when she rides you . I loved loved loved this book so much and I hope this author writes more like this. Even though this author writes mc , she has a way with words .
If you haven't read this book, then I suggest you do because it's awesome and sexy and hot. I wish it was longer.
This book blindsided me and took me by surprise. It was my first time reading this author’s work and can I just say that I am now her instant fan. I love this book so much. The main characters as well and especially the heroine. I loved how quirky and cute she was. I admire women who bounce back stronger after a downfall. This is very uplifting. And of course, j/p ness to the highest level. The hero was possesive but not in an annoying way.
Sometimes you need a book that is going to make you laugh. It may be a little ridiculous and completely ludicrous, but that's what you are in the mood for. And that describes Making Changes perfectly. It was charming, ridiculous and absolutely hilarious.
The story was told from the POV of of our heroine, Mackenzie. Mackenzie absolutely no brain to mouth filter and, when she's nervous, a tendency to blurt the most inappropriate things. I loved her, she was so funny, there were scenes in the book where I actually had to put the book down until I had finished laughing. So, when I say it was a laugh out loud book I mean it in the most literal sense. Our hero, Grayson is her new boss and at first seems like the boss-from-hell; he's demanding, humourless...and far too gorgeous. However, it soon becomes apparent, to everyone but Mackenzie, that he is head over heels for our kooky heroine. I love it when the heroine has no clue the hero is into her so this book was perfect for me.
This book is the perfect read if you like the following: curvy heroines, office romances, rom coms and hilarious family antics. I love all those things so I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend if you want something lighthearted and fun.
Started out good, but I started to skim after like 50%. Some LOL moments, but it started to get ridiculous and I didn’t find myself laughing anymore. The OTT behavior started to annoy me. Plus there were various other things that made me eye roll more times than I can count.
Kenzie has an asshole husband who is mean and condescending towards her. She is done! Enter Dylan, her new best friend who gets her a job at his brother Grayson.
Grayson is a music-mogul. Rich, hot and cold as ice. But Kenzie has lived with an asshole before, so this boss should be a piece of cake.
These two are hot, cute and hilarious. I love them. It’s an easy book with just enough angst, humour, drama and romance. This is the second time I’ve read it, and I still love it. Sometimes a girl just wants this kind of stories with an guaranteed HEA.
”His boxers were now tented, the slit in the boxers widening and my new friend was just poking out to say hi. “Did you just wave at my dick?” Grayson asked”
- No cheating - Alpha possessive hero - Quirky, curvy, cute heroine - Great characters - No triggers - HEA with epilogue
In loved how we got to see Kenzie go from a terrible marriage and she leaves her jerk of a husband and she picks herself up and finds a job and then finds herself and then finds and connects with her family and then finds love. And I love how we see how grumpy Grayson is and in the end we realize he has basically told most of the male competition to stay away from Kenzie because she is just getting over her divorce when we all know he is doing it so he can warn them away and keep the road clear for him. I also love that his brother pretended to be something he is not. This was a cute story and made me laugh.
Humor: check! Amazing plot: check! Curvy woman: check! Alpha bossy male: check Cast of amazing characters: check!!! This story was down right amazing! We get to watch a really strong, funny girl, grow into this sassy amazing woman. We get an amazing story here. A plot that I long to read and in depth character backstory. This is my first time realizing this author and it will not be the last. I had so much fun with this book I couldn't put it down.
