Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.
Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Zoe and Zak become embroiled in the murder of a visiting historian who was looking for clues to a treasure that his grandfather had hidden a hundred years earlier. The treasure had been spirited out of Russia by a member of the royal family. He was to keep it safe until the Czar sent for it but the revolution intervened and the treasure was never claimed. On an early morning walk along the lakeside, Zoe is startled to see someone towing a body towards shore. Entering the frigid waters she assists the girl in getting the body to the beach. There Zoe introduces herself to Lani who is visiting the area with her boyfriend Luke. Lani and Luke are from Hawaii where she is a professional lifeguard and he breeds horses. The four quickly form a tight friendship which leads to the girls looking for clues to the treasure while the guys work to decrypt a flash drive that might contain more information. The girls are taken prisoners when they stumble across the killer. Twists and turns make this a compelling read that will keep you turning the pages. A series with family, friends and pets that never fails to deliver a concise and adventuresome story.

This has to be the best book in this series yet! I totally enjoyed seeing Zak, Zoe, Luke and Lani work together to solve a murder case. This author is a true genius! I know at least one more book is scheduled with the four of them in Hawaii. I hope it also includes Levi and Ellie. I hated Ellie being so close to giving birth that she couldn't help. Her mood swings were so real that I could actually picture how she was feeling. Then there's baby Eli. I can't wait to see how he figures into the mix!

A good mix

This story combined two books which gave the story a nice change without losing the true Zoe and Zak storyline.

No Dull Moments

Easter Escapade is the 24th installment in Kathi Daley’s awesome Zoe Donovan Cozy Mystery series. Ms. Daley’s books always provide readers with strong messages of love, family, friendship, compassion, and caring while providing a clean read. The storyline for this book is well plotted and the characters are complex and affable. The mystery is interesting and takes the reader on an intriguing, page turning adventure. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted cozy mystery.

It’s spring break and Zoe is looking forward to celebrating Easter with her family and friends. Zoe’s best friends and newlyweds, Levi and Ellie Denton and their two dogs and one cat, are moving into Zoe and Zak’s home while the boathouse undergoes major remodeling. Ellie is due to deliver their first child at any moment and feeling very emotional and a little insecure. Zoe gathers the dogs for an early morning run and is surprised to find a pile of clothes lying on the beach because it’s too cold for swimming. She scans the water and sees someone swimming toward shore towing and it appears they are towing another person. Zoe immediately sheds her shoes and outer clothes and jumps into the cold water to see if she can help. When they arrive on shore, she meets Lani Pope who is visiting Ashton Falls with her boyfriend, Luke Austin. Unfortunately, their attempted rescue was in vain and Zoe calls Sheriff Salinger. They learn the victim is Charles Rossi who is a historian from Boston, Massachusetts who is doing research for a book he’s writing about the history of the area and a friend of Ethan Carlton, a history teacher at Zimmerman Academy. Zak and Zoe join forces with Luke and Lani to investigate the murder. During their investigation, they learn about a possible hidden treasure and search for it.

“Easter Escapade” earns 5/5 Cryptic Journals and Hidden Treasures!

It’s a quiet spring break morning in the Donovan-Zimmerman household, and Zoe heads out with a platoon of animals for an early morning jog down by the lake. She sees movement out on the lake, and with a closer look, she notices someone swimming dragging with them a body. Removing her own clothes she leaps into the frigid waters to provide assistance. Between the two of them the lifeless body is brought to shore…. Enter Lani Pope, with her boyfriend Luke Austin, has come to Ashton Falls for a vacation. As she and Zoe wait for the sheriff to arrive, they discover they both have an adeptness for investigating suspicious deaths…ok, murders. The dead man is Charles Rossi, an acquaintance of teacher Ethan Carlton and historian from Boston researching the history of Ashton Falls. Zoe and Lani strike up a great friendship joining forces to uncover a Russian immigrant and rumors of hidden artifacts from Tzar Nicholas II’s court. But with no clear cut motive and a suspect list still ‘to be determined,’ this one is going to be hard to solve.

This twenty-fourth book in my favorite Zoe Donovan Mystery series is the first ever crossover episode as it brings in Kailani “Lani” Pope and Luke Austin from the popular series Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery. As a big fan I am thrilled the Zoe crew is back with another absorbing tale that weaves in a hundred year old mystery, encrypted clues, royal artifacts, and twists and turns that kept me engaged. Newbies are not left out since enough details are provided to get to know the characters and understand family dynamics to thoroughly enjoy Kathi Daley’s clever plot that as usual has an exciting reveal, typically with someone in peril, of course. This book can be finished in one or two sittings, but it is not short on entertainment. We are also treated to Kathi Daley’s signature style that invites us to witness the loving and supportive relationships in the Donovan-Zimmerman-Denton family. It’s why these characters are so popular! She also knows well what many of us “cozy-holics” crave…a treat for our book club gatherings or family brunches. She includes several recipes from her own file, but she has also selected a few delicious delights from her fans. Join her Recipe Club on Facebook from which she often makes an ‘all call’ for recipes, and have an opportunity to be choose to be featured in one of her books.

This is the first crossover book by Kathi Daley and it is amazing, full of adventure and a dead body of course. It was so much fun to see the characters from the different series meet up and join forces to solve a mystery. It was great how Kathi Daley put each characters personalities into the story and was able to intertwine them with each other.
First of all I don't know how Luke got Lani on vacation and away from her beloved Hawaii. He did it and thus begins a new friendship with Zak and Zoe. Zoe meets Lani while she is pulling a body out of the water. Dead! They become instant friends and cohorts in crime solving. They along with their other halfs have to solve a mystery about a historian ending up dead while visiting Ashton Falls looking for a 100 year old treasure map??? Throw in Zoe being overwhelmed by Ellie and Levi moving in with them, the baby coming any day, construction on the boathouse, animals galore, and Elli's mood swings not to mention Easter coming and you have fun, adventure, and stress rolled into one.
I recieved a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This was a great read! I love the fact that Lani and Luke from the Hawaiian series are a big part of this story, helping Zoe and Zac solve the murder. I've seen similarities in Zoe and Lani in the separate books, but they were even more obvious in this one. Now I'm excited to read the crossover book for the other series as well, to see Zoe interacting with Lani's gang.

I thought the author did a great job of describing Ellie's reaction to Zoe hanging out with someone new, also. Being Zoe's best friend, and the one who usually helps her out in these situations, plus being at the end of her pregnancy, made for a very emotional time for her.

The mystery was an interesting one for me because it involved rumors of a Romanov treasure--I love just about anything that has to do with Nicholas II and his family. I had an inkling of who might have been involved in the death of the professor, but the way it all played out in the end was still a surprise.

Can't wait to see how things are going to change/evolve now that baby Eli has arrived, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a big announcement from Zoe soon, as well!

It's spring break in Ashton Falls. Levi and Ellie and pets have moved into Zak and Zoe's home while the boathouse is renovated. Zoe takes all the dogs out for a morning run and finds a pile of clothes on the beach. But, it's seriously too cold and too early for swimming. Zoe sees someone coming toward shore with another person in tow. Luke and Lani from the Sand and Sea Mystery series are in town and meet Zoe. Who is the victim and what's going on? There also might be a hidden treasure.

I enjoyed seeing the characters from both series interacting! There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader interested!

I am excited to see how these characters all continue to interact with each other!

Zoe meets Lani Pope as Lani and Luke are visiting Ashton Falls. Where ever these two brilliant yet amateur sleuths go danger will follow. This book does not disappoint in that regard. Charles Rossi is found by Lani as he takes an unexpected yet deadly early morning dip in the lake. From there it's a race to solve the mystery of his visit and catch the culprits responsible.... Lani and Zoe make a great detective team but still will the guys have to save their hides--It's a Zach thing of course . There is an addition to the group as Ellie finally goes into labor. Read on and take this one to the beach as well as Treasure in Paradise(TJ Jensen) and Murder at Turtle cove(Lani Pope)

Once again, Zoe finds herself stumbling across a dead body. This time, though, she has help in the form of visitor Lani. Lani and Luke are visiting from Hawaii (crossover from this author's Sand and Sea Mystery series). As kindred spirits, Zoe and Lani set out to find out how the dead man ended up in the water wearing a life vest and soon discover it may involve a long-missing treasure. As always, the mystery keeps the reader guessing. I enjoyed the interaction between the two sets of mystery solvers, and I am glad to see that they will continue to interact in an upcoming book. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing this book.

Marvelous Crossover

What a marvelous crossover Kathi has pulled off. While walking the dogs Zoe comes across Lani swimming a body to shore. The two immediately connect and a new friendship is born from mutual curiosity and a never ending need to investigate. The ladies are on the case with the help of Zoe's husband Zak and Lani's boyfriend Luke. Along the way Zoe has to deal with the upcoming Easter holiday, Ellie preparing for her baby, and construction on the boat house. I love how Kathi was able to intertwine Lani into this book. I learned so much about who she is as a person not to mention seeing Zoe in a different light. It is always such a treat to get an in-depth look at characters. I look forward to reading more from each of their respective series.

Crossover

Characters from two of Kathi Daley's series (Zoe & Zak and Lani & Luke) meet in a crossover story in which they investigate a murder and look for a hidden treasure. Once again, family and friends come through in the end - and leave you anxious for the next installments of each individual series, and another crossover. Happy reading!

Two series come together this time. The storyline was so well done with everyone working together to solve a mystery with 2 new friends that become as one. Loved how all the characters seem like they are so much alike that helps them find clues to catch the murder. A must read for Kathi Daley fans.

In Ashton Falls its getting towards Easter and Spring is around the corner. Zoe is out and about early at the lake when she spots someone swimming to shore rescuing a man, she dives in to help. It turns out Lani, from Kathi Daleys cozy mystery series Whales and Tails (it's the next series on my list once I've finished this series), is visiting the area and was out jogging when she saw help was needed. The man they rescued was a Historian friend of Ethan's, and so begins a crossover story between the 2 series.

Ellie and Levi have moved in with Zoe and Zac while the boathouse is being remodeled, Ellie is due to have her baby any day!

Kathi Daley is one of my favourite cozy mystery authors, I've read several of her series and they're all brilliant, all very well worth checking out. I cannot put these books down, my kindle unlimited subscription gives really good value for money! The books in each series are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.

This is book #24 in the Zoe Donavan series by Kathi Daley. It is as intriguing as all the others. The plot and characters are all believable and well thought out. What I like most about MS Daley's books is, no matter which series or standalone novel, I know the family and friends along the the protagonist will be someone with whom I would want to be friends, there is usually respect for animals along with people, the mysteries will be complex but not gruesome, there will be no unnecessary language or description, and just enough romance to add to the story without taking it over. Zoe is my favorite series and each one I seem to like "the best". This one is the same in that respect, my favorite thus far. A perfect cozy mystery.

I enjoyed this book as I do every other book by Ms. Daley. In this book we have Zoe and Zak meet Lani and Luke from her other series. Since Lani finds the body she is as interested as Zoe since they both love finding answers. They combine to find the answer to who murdered this professor. Add Ellie and Levi living with Zoe and Zak while their home being renovated plus Ellie due at any time, and Easter coming, this story keeps on moving. The mystery was good and kept me guessing, I didn't put it all together. I will definitely continue on with this series, I can't say enough good about the characters.
There is the added bonus of some yummy sounding recipes in the back.

This was the first book in the series that I have read and I easily jumped right in and felt like I already knew the characters. Zoe comes across a woman,Lani (from the Sand and Sea Hawaiian mysteries), swimming to shore with a body of a man who turns out to be dead. The man was a visiting professor looking for a supposed treasure. Zoe sets out to investigate along with Zak, Lani, and Lani's boyfriend, Luke. Zoe and Lani find themselves in a dangerous situation and Zak and Luke show up to save the day. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Once again the author hooks us from the beginning. Imagine walking your dogs on the beach very early in the morning and finding clothes laying on the beach. Look out and see a woman trying to bring a body to shore, so jump in to help. The man is dead. Kinda odd since has a life vest on. So what could of went wrong.

Off to solve another mystery. One not easy to put down when you start. Would recommend to others.

A life jacket instead of a suit coat, but he still drowned

This was a very interesting mystery with Zoe and Zak making new friends in the middle of a murder. Turned out to be a great team, but once again Zoe gets to close while finding clues and ends up in danger. Zoe's new friend Lani is helping her with this mystery, because Ellie is having a baby. The story takes a lot of twists and turns before the end, so much fun. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Easter escapade

It’s almost Easter and Zoe and her group and planning a huge family Easter now that all are together. Ellie is die any day and is having nerves and everything since the boathouse is getting a facelift for the new addition. But then a body washes up with Lani from Hawaii bringing it in. Oh boy a mashup of books. (You guys have got to read the other series.). Zoe and Lani end up in cold water. Will they see Easter?

I really like this series, and this book is no different. I love the characters and each book seems to flow very nice from one to the other. Kathi Daley is an exceptional story teller and I highly recommend all her series. I can't wait for the next book to see what else happens with the characters, especially Charlie and the new addition....

Fun read !

Another great book. I’ve read some of this series in order and some out of order. This is the most recent I’ve read but I’m going back in time. It’s kinda neat to see the back story of Eli’s birth. I enjoyed reading the crossover characters story. I like the other series too. It was fun trying to solve the mystery. Zac is my hero. Must read.

One of the best Zoe Donovan I have read thus far. There are new characters to focus on and the book series crossover idea is genius. This story flowed very well. Yes, you have the usual "that wouldn't happen in reality" moments but that is what makes fiction. A quick read on a rainy day. It at least brings visions of spring to my mind.

I should stop having low expectations for cozy mysteries cause I loved all the ones I read so far!

New friends

Zoe does it again with the help of her new friend. The only thing I am disappointed in is where is the hidden treasure? Now that the "group" is growing will Zoe and the gang be able to solve murders and keep each other safe?
