I'm surprised that this is a debut novel! I really liked her writing. It was polished, posh and just what I think a "royalty" book should sound like. As the book kept going I found I was enjoying it more and more. And Dylan Hale was swoonworthy! It had a bit of a twist that I wasn't expecting, and at times it wasn't very original, but Ms. Swift delivered a cute story with lovable characters.

I'm really excited for this author and I'm definitely looking forward to the other books in the series..I can only imagine how good those will be. If you like British aristocracy books, then you want to give this one a try.

A stunning debut! Compelling, emotionally intense and full of heat, a Royal Affair will keep you entranced to the very last page.

I'm a slow reader. Very slow. But I stayed up horribly late, ran longer on the treadmill (yes, I read and run) just so I could stay immersed in this story and these amazing characters. And when I got to the end, like an addict, I wanted more. I can't wait for Royal Disaster, the second book in this series.

Royal Affair is self contained. And it's amazing. Dylan Hale will light your panties on fire, not that you’ll be allowed to wear them anyway (and you probably won't want to wear them).

I'm so excited for this story and this author.

This was a alright read, but not the best. Seemed a bit too familiar to This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas. It was light (though not too light), easy and fast going. Dylan Hale (30) was hot, kind, sexy, controlling and possessive. Lydia Bell (24, turns 25 in the last couple of pages) was sweet, naive, stupid, adoring and loving. Together they were cute. Though a bit too cute. Overall, the book was predictable and straight forward. Also there was too much sexy and too little story.

“I can’t be a haven for anyone – I’m a goddamn war zone.”

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance
Series: - Series, Book One
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Dylan Hale
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - I don't know.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Sure.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.
Rating - 2.5/3 stars.

I don't usually read books like this anymore because, let's face it, I've read about a hundred of this before already. But it's still pretty entertaining to get into once in a while.

What I don't particularly miss about this trope is that it always ends in a cliffhanger. Of course.

description

British-Control Freak in bed-Royalty? Yeah. SOLD.

That’s what I got from the blurb, so of course I requested this one. Who doesn't love a future duke who has as a rule to have complete control in the bedroom. I do.

But the more I read, the more the story reminded me of another one. Wealthy hero who doesn't do relationships. Spanking and stalking included. And a sassy heroine who loves to push the hero buttons. A little familiar, right? Yeah, That’s what I thought. But even though, the storyline was a little overused and I have a mad love for the “the other book", Royal Affair was still a sexy and page flipper book.

What I enjoyed the most about the book was the chemistry between the characters. Dylan was not used to get sassiness from women so to see him deal with Lydia’s witty comebacks was a funny thing to read.

Ok this is going to sound weird, since as you know I’m a horny little thing who loves to read steamy-scorching scenes, but I got a bit bored here. Don’t get me wrong, those scenes, plus Dylan’s dirty talking were smoking hot. Their first encounters had me fanning myself but then…then… I never thought I would say this but, THE SEX WAS WAY TOO MUCH! There I said it. Damn, that was hard but true. It was as if the sex had swallowed the plot completely, making me lost interest to the point that I had to skim some parts and that coming from me is a sacrilege.

Dylan’s “No one can know bullshit” got on my nerves. I got his reasons but it was frustrating. And I hated that Lydia had to put up with it.

Overall, the book was just ok for me. I enjoyed it but couldn't help comparing it to “the other book”. The author managed to deliver a intriguing ending so I may or may not be reading the next book. Will see.

Talk about a debut author shooting out of the gates! This book had me up until four a.m. so I could get my Dylan Hale fix. Once I got started, I could not put Royal Affair down. Equal parts sweet and sinfully hot, this story will sweep you off your feet. And when I say hot, I mean volcanic. Bring a fan.

This book was really what I was expecting. Yes, I knew it would be a story about a non-royal and royal with all the restrictions and limitations it implies, but I wasn't expecting the steam and heat.

Dylan is more alpha than any royal I can ever remember reading about. He is confident, attractive, and has complete control in and out of the bedroom. His control leads into his protective nature of Lydia. He encompasses all the attributes readers love abut alpha heroes.

Lydia is the American transplant. Readers will enjoy her humor and her freedom to pursue her desires in the bedroom. She also is very open with her feelings and needs with Dylan, which is more often than not, not the case when it comes to heroines.

This story is steamy. The chemistry between them is electric, and readers can feel their emotions through their physical interactions. More than that, readers will get to see this couple connect emotionally as well.

This story is just getting started, and Parker Swift ends the book at a point that will want readers needing more. I know I did.

Royal Affair (Royal Scandal #1) by Parker Swift
4 stars!!!

“You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

For a debut book Parker Swift really delivered and I have to be honest and say it did not read like a debut at all, the writing was very accomplished and totally engaging. I love a good Royal book and this is what initially caught my attention, I then read the synopsis and being British reading it was a no brainer and so I dived in.

Lydia Bell is not in a great place emotionally, she had put her life on hold to be there for her sick father and since his passing she has lost her way in the world…no sense of belonging, no parents, no idea what to do and too many memories in her current surroundings. Even though Lydia knows now is her time, it is hard to let go, but moving on for the sake of her own sanity is a must. Her parents met in London and so it is there she intends to make her final destination, if this was where her parents fell in love maybe love could find her there too. In the meantime, a summer job nannying for some extremely wealthy and connected parents was on the cards, a summer trip to Canada was where her life would forever be altered, even if she didn’t know it yet.

“Just sex? What I have in mind will be far better than ‘just sex.’ I hope you’re not offended…I’m afraid it’s all I’m good for, but I promise I’m very. Very. Good at it.”

Dylan Hale was a drop dead gorgeous Brit with the accent to match and when he first catches a glimpse of Lydia frolicking with the kids in a skimpy bikini it seems our Brit is smitten. Dylan though is a man of mystery, a man who wants to keep his cards close to his chest, he doesn’t have relationships and keeps his private life private and he has his reasons. While at times he came across as an arrogant, self-assured, domineering, arsehole, underneath was a man that actually wanted something he knew he could never have, a normal relationship, he just didn’t know it…or at least he didn’t until he met Lydia Bell.

Dylan was British Royalty, a title that he never wanted but was given by birth right. After the death of his grandfather he has to step up to the plate and none more so than in providing the next Marquess. Dylan is well aware he is every socialites wet dream, he is aware of the superficial gold diggers that constantly throw themselves at him, but he never takes the bait. Dylan is adamant with regards to his no relationship policy, but he hadn’t met his game changer, he has now.

“I can’t be a haven for anyone – I’m a goddamn war zone.”

Parker Swift delivered a book with a captivating plot and while it isn’t the most original it was delivered in her own unique style. I loved the dialogue, I felt the emotion and I felt their connection, I may have even shed a tear of two, but most of all this book kept my attention throughout, so much so, it was a one sitting read and for a newbie, that is a huge accomplishment.

My only niggle was this had a little Fifty Shades feel about it, certain scenes or actions would make me think of Christian and Ana and it was a little annoying. Dylan is an alpha and a little dominant and while his predilections have only gone so far as slapping, a little bondage and butt plugs and of course a penchant for knicker stealing or even better no knickers at all, I can see that this side to their relationship will probably be explored more in depth. Lydia also had that Ana feel about her, being the inexperienced (not virginal), coquettish woman who suddenly finds her inner vixen.

“Yours is the only pussy I can’t bear to be separated from by fabric, no matter how thin.”

The sex scenes were seriously hot and Parker Swift certainly has them down pat and with an engaging plot line there was little to not love about this book. This is the first in a trilogy and this book was left on a little cliffy but in a good place none the less. To say I am seriously jonesing for book two is an understatement and I cannot wait to dive into it. As much as Dylan pissed me off in the beginning he has worked his charm well and truly into my heart and I want to see these two make it…they both deserve it.

“I just couldn’t stay away. I still can’t.”

Leigh's review:

4.5 stars

I have to admit, I went into this book with a slightly bad attitude. A rich guy, part of the aristocracy, that is wanting a “secret” relationship. One that he warns is just sex, will not lead anywhere, and no one can know about it. Basically, a royal booty call.

Have some self respect, sister!!

And that is completely not what I got. Instead, Royal Affair turned into a sweet and kinky story with main characters I adored, antagonists I despised, and an author that has me stunned that this is her debut novel.

Dylan is my new book boyfriend. He’s smoking hot, dominant/kinky as hell, polished and really sweet. His stalkerish tendencies were actually pretty cute, and I loved watching him fall in love despite himself. I was worried I would resent him for his “sex-only” relationship request, but it was pretty apparent that there was more to this guy than met the eye. The fact that a Royal fell for an every-day woman like Lydia made him even more likeable.

As I said, I was anticipating some eye-rolling on my behalf at Lydia being a doormat and going along with this farce of a relationship, but I truly liked her! She didn’t allow herself to be walked over and I felt that her and Dylan were a good match. She stood up to the “Earl of Perv” and gave as good as she got. The sex was also non-stop, so what’s not to like?!

Royal Affair is the first of a trilogy of novels, but although there is a soft of cliffhanger ending, it’s a full book in itself. It was sexy and sweet and a great start to a series I know I will enjoy!

Cliffhanger/Three book series!

I still can't believe Royal Affair Parker Swifts debut novel! Dylan and Lydia’s sexually charged affair will fog up your e-reader screen with all of their royal sexcapades. This book captivated me from the first to the last page.

Dylan is British royalty and Lydia is an “ordinary” woman.
After a chance meeting, the two embark on a sex-with-no-strings relationship. Lydia and Dylan have a “don’t ask, don’t tell” arrangement. Dylan insists he doesn’t do relationships and no one can know about Lydia. Their sex-only relationship ends up on the fast track to becoming something more. The two are faced with insta-feelings and paparazzi. Can they navigate a relationship under the watchful eye of other British royalty and the paparazzi? BOOM. What a great twist and cliffhanger ending! I have to say that I didn’t mind it at all since I knew this was a three-book series. If anything, the ending left me wanting more! If you are looking for a fast-paced romance with a side order of sexy smut, this is your next one-click.

4 Royally Amazing Stars!!

First off Ms. Parker Swift what an amazing debut book. Great Job!!

Going into Royal Affair I wasn't exactly sure of what I was in for. Once I got started I just couldn't put the book down.

Lydia is spending the summer babysitting for a rich family until she packs up and moves to London to work for a new fashion designer. This all happens after the death of her last living relative, her father. While babysitting she runs into the sexy Duke Dylan.

Dylan is a sexy, hot, alpha, Duke in London who hates having his life broad-casted in the media. So to avoid the media he distances himself from people he care about and doesn't do relationships. However he is so taken with Lydia that he just maybe willing to give up his rules.

Royal Affair is a total funny, hot, suspenseful emotional must read. This is a 2017 you HAVE to read that should be on everyone's TBR list!! The characters, Lydia and Dylan, you will really connect with. The chemistry between these these 2 are so off the charts. Lydia is a female character who speaks what's on her mind and not back down from a challenge. She has no problem at all calling Dylan out. Dylan, Dylan, Dylan is just totally sexy, hot, alpha male. He knows what he wants and goes after it and isn't afraid to actually admit when he screws ups.

Oh and the ending of Royal Affair OMG what a curve ball. I totally didn't see that coming at all!

3 stars!

Well this was interesting! I requested the book because the blurb sounded promising enough to snap me out of my reading slump and it did!

I read this within hours and it was highly entertaining. This was a British version of Fifty Shades of Grey with less BDSM and a royal twist and a Devil Wears Prada combination. The hero is a wealthy son of a Duke who doesn't do relationships and he has a thing for spanking. And stalking. And flying people over and buying expensive gifts. Doesn't ring ANY bells, at all.

The heroine is a babysitter turned fashion designer wannabe who is doing her internship in London. The two meet during her babystitting gig and then they sort of reunite again in London.

The relationship is borderline insta love to be honest but it is written in a cleaver way that doesn't feel as blunt, there's a gap between the two events of them meeting but it definitely is on the fast side.

It's a quick read and it got the job done - to stop my reading slump - but unfortunately it wasn't anything I haven't read before and it definitely felt familiar but it was enjoyable enough since I'm a sucker for Royal romances. The couple starts a secret affair because why not make it difficult for themselves and there's a bunch of people getting in their way but in the end they manage to resolve any issues.

I actually enjoyed the story very much and didn't put it down at all. There's an element that prevents you from stopping, the story moves fast and it keeps you hooked till the last page and it doesn't allow any time to think, maybe this is moving too fast or I've read this before. I just wanted to get to the end and see the working out their issues. Will be reading the follow-up book(s).

As a blogger, I tend to stay away from trilogies as I struggle to remember the books previously, when the next one releases and I usually don't have time to re-read. However, when I saw the Royal Series I couldn't pass it up. And I am so, so glad I went for it. Parker Swift, where have you been all my reading life! Royal Affair is a fantastic start to a trilogy that I simply cannot wait to finish!

Royal Affair is a well paced, well written book. This book captured my attention and held it from beginning to end, I easily devoured this in one sitting.

English Royal Dylan Hale had me weak at the knees!! He is ridiculously hot, dirty, swoony and intense! I couldn't get enough.
Lydia was a great lead female, sassy and incredibly sexy and a fantastic match for Dylan.

As this book starts the trilogy, Royal Affair was HOT, HOT, HOT and all about the sexual connection they share. The connection between Lydia and Dylan is intense, their passion obvious. I really look forward to the next two books to see how Parker develops them and their relationship.

Obviously, because this is book one of a trilogy, it does end on a bit of a cliff hanger! And my gosh, I have some HUGE questions but I'd say definitely read this and follow Dylan & Lydia's journey, because it's fresh, fun and OH SO HOT!

4 royally, scandalous stars.

I adored this book. First, Dylan, the hero is British. That alone is enough to get me to pick the book up. Second, he's a Marquess. I do love the aristocracy no matter what era. Third, he's absolutely filthy. Poor inexperienced, naive Lydia didn't know what hit her when she met Dylan.

My only "complaint" about the book is the amount of time we spend in Lydia's head. The POV is her's, so you'd expect to be in her head. But we spent a lot of time there when she was in a "moment" with Dylan. I would have rathered more interaction between the characters than Lydia's inner monologue. But that is a very small detraction to an otherwise fabulous, fabulous read. I can't wait to find out what happens next with this couple when the second book, Royal Disaster, comes out in April.

Dylan Hale. That’s the name of your new book boyfriend.
He’s angsty, alpha and British, so yeah, pretty much perfection. And so is the story. Royal Affair is so addictive, so steamy and so intense it’s hard to believe it’s Parker Swift's debut book. She created a secret love affair between Lydia and Dylan so sexy and exciting I couldn’t put it down. READ IT! You will be royally pleased you did!

I volunteered to review an ARC.

DNF at 30%.

I usually give new-to-me authors a chance to redeem themselves at 20% mark but sadly, this story and the characters did not hold my attention as much as I would've like them to. The hero (I don't think he is but for the sake of terminologies, let's give him that) was a selfish prick and I hated him the moment he just went to tell the heroine what to do, where to meet him without so much as asking. I know it had to do with the alpha thing but the guy rubbed me the wrong way and I didn't like it. The monologue of the heroine was tiring and repetitive–her dealing with her father's death, being a nanny to rich kids and working in London.

I also found out it was a trilogy–same couple–when the blurb when I requested says nothing.

The cover was also misleading with a bearded model when the hero was clean shaven. Huh, look at that–false advertising.

I wanted to like the book, even finish it but at 30%, I finally thrown in the towel.

I just couldn't get why Dylan was so attracted to Lydia. Why she was so special? I couldn't get the answer from the book, and why I couldn't shake the shadow of Fifties while reading this book? That being said I would still read book 2. One more thing, please don't tell me that silly guy on the book cover or covers is Dylan!!!

If there is one type of novel that I am loving lately it is the ROYALTY novels. I absolutely cannot get enough of them! Royal affair was such an outstanding debut novel from Parker Swift. It was full of heat, heart and had such an addicting story. I could not put it down!

Dylan Hale was absolutely amazing. He was so sexy and will blow you mind! This novel was seriously so fantastic. I have a huge book hangover! I can't stop thinking about it and I finished it days ago! Lydia was such a great match to Dylan. She was a great combination of sweet and sassy and I could not get enough. Royal disaster seriously cannot get here fast enough! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

I loved when Lydia's claws came out, “I know you like to call me yours and in the heat of the moment say ‘you’re mine’ and all that, but the reality is, I’m not, and you don’t actually want that. I can’t just be your secret stash of kink forever. I need to, well, I need to protect myself.” I liked Dylan's idea for romance, “now let’s go have some fun, and then I’m going to get you home and give you a birthday spanking— one for each year.” My jaw dropped, and he smiled at my shock. “And you’ll love every one.” I actually enjoyed this book immensely, and even though I hate cliffhangers I loved this book.

Overview

One seriously sexy son-of-a-duke . . .

Behind the posh British accent, Dylan Hale possesses a down-and-dirty sexiness. Off-the-charts gorgeous, a ruthless architect . . . and did I mention he's a future duke? Every time we touch, it's wildfire. All need and lust and heat. But Dylan has rules: just sex, no one can know, and in the bedroom he gets complete control. All I have to do is follow the rules, because falling in love with Dylan Hale is all it would take to screw everything up . . . royally.

My Thoughts

First off, thank you NetGalley for getting me a copy of this first installment of the series - i think that we have something really exciting to look forward to as the next 2 installments come out. I hope i can get my hands on them STAT since i can't wait that patiently.

In this intro to the series, we have Lydia, a British born American who's finding her own footing now after life took priority. Her father passed away from cancer and now she's trying to make her way in life. She spent the summer being a nanny for a well off family and that allowed her to save some money and travel before starting her new life in London, working for a fashion designer. It's a chance encounter on her last days as a nanny though that really make things change for her.

She meets Dylan - a Brit who's traveling with his family up in Canada and there are sparks from the first moment they see each other. The issue of course from there is that she's not in London and he will be going back, and given circumstances of the circle that he appears to live in, they aren't likely to cross paths too soon. At least that's what she thinks. The night after she gets a sensual kiss from him in Canada, he sends his number via a butler and tells her to look him up when she arrives. She doesn't even have the chance to do that persay given that a car arrives to pick her up from the airport and while she doesn't connect the dots, the reader surely should.

That's where the whirlwind begins. Lydia is quick to immerse herself in her new life, loving her job and the people she works with, finding success there and then connecting with Dylan, whom she quickly learns is a Duke and someone that's so far beyond her reach. While he doesn't see that exactly, he has these clear cut rules that makes their relationship strictly secret and private for a number of reasons. He doesn't do relationships he says and he wants to protect her from the press. She's ok with it at first but as all girls are, this becomes something that doesn't sit well with her.

Their connection is so strong though that every time she tries to walk away, she can't. every time she feels like she's been lied to, he has a great excuse, and this is the journey that we go on with them.

I have to say that i was pleasantly surprised by this author. i've never read anything by Parker Swift before i don't think and i really enjoyed the pace and nature of the story. There's such a great mix of character relationship and story telling. The chemistry between these two is intense and you can see that there's so much between them that it becomes not just romantic but incredibly hot and steamy. Swift gives us a good balance of naughty sex with quite a bit of kink, while also making sure that we have the sweet romance bits as well.

So where we are left off is insane, and i think that secrets will be revealed. There's been the ongoing question as to who Lydia's mom is since her father never revealed much to her, although we know that she was British, so in my gut, i think that we're going to learn something quite surprising there, that maybe her mom is a royal or something equally as exciting.

On that note, bummed that i have to wait so long for the next installments but super excited to have found this one.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was an ok read for me. It reminded me of somewhat Fiftyish. Each time I would read another chapter Fifty came to mind. I enjoyed Fifty better. The thing is the book was still a page turner and a quick read.

I guess the basis of the story didn’t really do it for me. It just seemed like the story was just about sex. I don’t understand how the characters feel for each other. How can you say you love someone when all you do is have sex!!!???. The characters hardly held any conversations. There was no chemistry at all. I can see a guy and think he is attractive and fine but after a while sex alone is never enough. You don’t fall in love just by having sex every time you see each other. Did I tell you there was no substance between them yet. Yeah None. I don’t know what else to say.

Dylan is the smart dominant earl or something. He is attracted to Lydia but doesn’t want anyone to know that they are in a “relationship”. What!!!!????

Lydia is attracted to Dylan and is ok with settling with what Dylan was offering, even though she knew that she deserved better than that.

The end of the book got a little intriguing. Just a little. You wouldn’t believe it it’s a sequel… Even though I am ranting, I still want to read the sequel maybe, just maybe it will be something of substance.

I received an arc through NetGalley for an honest review.

I enjoy the royal trope, but there are some aspects of it that drive me insane, namely..fake countries. So, I was glad that this one was set in London. No, I realize this is not something that should really matter to the story, and I realize there are a lot of them out there, very popular ones, set in fake countries.

I liked Dylan a lot. I htought he seemed realistic and oyu can understand the need that he has to protect her from the paparazzi. The rationale for this was, possibly, a little over the top and unnecessary, but at the same time, I was not able to object to it all that much.

I thought the author did a good job with Lydia and her acceptance of him not only being royal, but what that meant for their relationship. I liked the evolution as she got closer to him, and wanted to be more than a fling and his arc around the same plot development, but with him being afraid of exposing her to the life he lives.

There were some issues with jealousy that were a little repetitive and I felt that he kept telling her the same things over and over, but maybe this is what happens when you date royalty.

I knew this was a trilogy going into it, so the cliffhanger ending does not effect my rating.

All I have to do is follow the rules, because falling in love with Dylan Hale is all it would take to screw everything up . . . royally.

Review:

I was totally engrossed in this story from page one.

Dylan and Lydia were the things I loved the most about the book. I loved them, I hated them, and I wanted to smack sense into them at different points in the story. For me that is what made them interesting and had me caring about both of them and their romance. This story was super sexy too, lots and lots of sexy. Dylan is a man in charge, definitely an alpha and a caretaker too. Lydia is submissive, but has a little brat in her. I did like her better when she was showing her spunk and standing up for herself and the relationship. I have to say I kept waiting for Lydia's long-lost mom to show up or for Michael the next door neighbor to do something nefarious. This is a continuing story, so there is open ending to this book. I know some like to read series all at once, so if that is you, you might want to wait a couple of months.

Now this is the first in a trilogy, at least a far as I can tell. In a good move by the publisher, it looks like the wait between books is only two months. Since these are full length books, every two months is pretty good in my book.

The writing is great and for a first time Author I think she did a really great job. I eagerly await the next book to see what happens to Lydia and Dylan next!!

I went back and forth about what I thought about Dylan for almost the whole book. He's clearly an alpha but it often verged on over the top, especially because it didn't match his insistence on keeping things casual and secretive. At the same time, it worked because Lydia would push back and call him out when his behavior bordered on creepy. It was frustrating as a reader because it was clear Lydia meant more to him than he'd let himself admit and this led to some hurtful actions. But by the end of the book, he'd completely won me over. The scene in the park made me tear up! I also loved getting to see them at the fashion show party. Lydia's coworkers are the best! The ending left me with so many questions so I'm glad I don't have to wait for book 2!

ARC Review: Royal Affair (Royal Scandal) by Parker Swift

Dylan is every woman's fantasy until he opens his mouth and goes from dream guy to tempting prospect. Royal Affair takes lust, love and royalty and gives it a modern edge with a bad boy lead. I had a love/hate relationship with Dylan. His arrogance frustrated me but at the same time he could easily seduce me into forgetting that I wanted to knock some sense into him. Never have I come across a character practically becomes real before my eyes. Parker Swift delivered a heavy hitter with her debut.

Royal Affair,  Parker Swift

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  romance, erotica

So, a debut book I think, can’t find any more by Parker anyway.
Its always a gamble not knowing what writing style you’ll get in a debut book, could be perfect for you or could be something you hate – I got lucky here, I love it.
Actually I’ve had several really good, well written and fun debut reads this year.

Inevitably this will get Fifty comparison. That trilogy has spawned so many others, some good, but far too many more that are really dire IMO.
Reading is subjective, and everyone wants different things. When I read an erotic romance I want sensuality, heat, and steamy sex but I need the  simmering tensions and dramas that make up the balance for me and a read I can enjoy. royal does that.
In fact rather than Fifty it reminded me much more of another favourite, Pippa Croft’s Oxford Blue trilogy. Both feature US females, UK titled males, and have a perfect for me balance of sex to story.
That’s really important, for me too much sex is just off-putting, I want story first backed up by the steamy parts, not dominated by them.

I’m pleased too that plans are for the next two books to be released fairly soon, later this year. I really, really hate waiting for further parts of a story.
I hate the trend into splitting romances up, they used to be either stand alone, or a series such as fantasy paranormals reads, but after Fifty though its all trilogies, some with very long gaps between releases, some that turn trilogies into five book series :-( ( As the Crossfire one did. I got the “final” release delivered to my kindle after pre ordering, to find I needed to buy two more, unspecified price and date – returned it and gave up on that one. In my opinion its taking readers for a ride, abusing them)

Anyway, having got that off my chest more about this book.
I really really liked the story. Lots of steam, well written and fun, some proper dramas, perfect storylines, it all felt very real. I loved the UK setting, as a UK resident, though I think maybe we’re less hung up on titles than US readers ;-)
It is an odd world though, duty and tradition do still reign in so many titled families, so Dylan's family pressures didn’t feel wrong.
He’s an intelligent, successful man in his own right, has turned his life around but parental/family pressure is hard, and add on the media invasions....Yep, sadly the UK press laps up every little bit of “news” that helps them sell papers. Truth doesn’t really matter to them so long as they’re first to break a story, and they’ll go to scurrilous lengths, legalities get cast aside, anything to crack that first bit of news, without any thought for their actions on the people concerned.
Yep – you can tell what I think of UK media outlets, papers, TV, magazines – they’re all awful, and I don’t buy papers or magazines and only read news online where I can stay away from, the stuff that hurts people involved. That part of the story added real authenticity though, as a UK reader I can confirm its horribly true.

I loved Dylan and Lydia, they were perfect together, and the secondary  characters, Lydia’s best friend, her work colleagues and boss, Dylan’s family and friends all felt genuine. I need that, need to feel people and situations could be real or I just don’t enjoy it. I really want things to work out for them as characters I like, but of course as a story I really want fireworks along the way!! Lots of in depth, solid drama, blocks that seem imsurmountable, the stuff that makes me feel emotional for them.

There were some partsthat niggled me, but thankfully only cropped up in the early pages....Chapter 2, loc 178, she claps eyes on him and instantly is rambling on about the wonders of his hair, how she imagines running her hands through it, then a couple of paragraphs later she’s looking at his hands, imagining them grabbing her hair, holding her...I thought it was going to turn into one of those novels where the girl had wet knickers every time she looks at him, but I was wrong. Thankfully. I always think that must be horribly uncomfortable ;-)

So its a great start, fun but solid story, sexy without being OTT, plenty of potential dramas and I’m looking forward to more.
Bonus points too for avoiding the - to me - dreaded cliff-hanger. I HATE  those, fiercely hate them, and I know many other readers do too. In fact I rarely buy romance trilogies until all parts are released (see my earlier rant...) so I can read straight through – far better experience for me that way.
This time we’ve a proper ending, but a sneaky set up for book two promising some fireworks without leaving the readers hanging in limbo.

Stars: Five, a fabulous start to the trilogy.

Royal Scandal Series
Book 2: Royal Disaster
Book 3: Royal Treatment

Review:
This is the first book in the Royal Scandal series. The series follows Lydia and Dylan as they try to build a relationship that is destined to fail. It is a sweet story. It is just about every young girl’s dream to meet and marry prince charming. Although in this book Dylan is not a prince, he is pretty close and part of the royal family. Dylan and Lydia first meet at Dylan’s Canadian estate. Lydia is there as a nanny taking care of twins for the summer. Lydia has recently lost her father to a long illness. After the summer she will be heading to London to start her career as an assistant to an up and coming fashion designer. Dylan is at the estate with his family to spread the ashes of his grandfather. When they meet there is an instant attraction, but Dylan had decided long ago that he would never have a long term relationship with anyone. When they meet again in London they find it hard to fight the attraction that they have for each other. The vow that they make to keep their relationship secret is quickly challenged when pictures of them start to surface. The chemistry between these two characters is pretty fast and hard. Dylan is the prince of sending mixed signals and Lydia is the patient loving girl who will do just about anything for the man she is quickly falling in love with. The pacing is pretty fast. There are many things going on. Disapproving parents, jealous women who feel that they should be receiving the attentions of Dylan. There is also problems with the family business that Dylan is trying to set right. As mentioned this is the first book of a series, so there is not a definite ending. Luckily the second book is available and you will not have to wait long to continue this series. The character development is a little drawn out. Like Lydia, we get glimpses of Dylan in small doses. Although Lydia is pretty much an open book, there is still a mystery about her mother. I really did enjoy this story as well as this series, but I am a romantic always longing for a happy ever after.
