W. J. Lundy is a still serving Veteran of the U.S. Military with service in Afghanistan. He has over 12 years of combined service with the Army and Navy in Europe, the Balkans and Southwest Asia. W.J. is an avid athlete, writer, backpacker and shooting enthusiast. He currently resides with his wife and daughter in Central Michigan.

I developed the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot series from notes and ideas I had put together while deployed to Afghanistan. I had been jokingly asked how we would defend against a zombie attack.

I wanted to tell a story that portrays the military that I know, that displays our actual capabilities. These are my thoughts, I hope you enjoy them, and thank you for reading.

Great Post-Apocalyptic Worldbuilding; Two Years after TEOTWAWKI and the Battle for the Future is in Full Swing

This, the 7th installment of W.J. Lundy's brilliant Whisky Tango Foxtrot zombie apocalypse series, is a worthy addition to the series. Bound By Honor is set over two years after the Primal Rabies epidemic that ended civilization and reduced the world to a dystopian battle ground of warring factions struggling to survive amidst growing packs of Primal apex predators. While this episode is as well written and fast-paced as the earlier installments, the post-apocalypse has entered a new phase, one that is less interesting to me. I am not a huge fan of sci-fi that depicts how the world moves forward into the future after an apocalyptic event. I prefer the initial post-apocalypse where survivors struggle in the midst of the ruins, still adjusting to life without civilization, and encountering unimaginable horrors carved out of the mundane leftovers of the world as it once was. By this phase of the WTF universe, the Primals have become more like roving packs of wolves. Out there and dangerous but manageable. There are three major factions vying for power over the leftover eastern United States -- Texas, the Midwest Alliance, and the "Free" or Independent Communities. The WTF crew landed in a West Virginia mountain sanctuary in the previous installment and prefer to remain free. But a rogue militia leader is intent on seizing control of the Midwest Alliance and is bringing in all the free states by hook or by crook to expand his forces. An attack on the WTF sanctuary leads to war against the rogue forces of militia General Carson. That's all I will say to avoid spoilers...

I dislike it when my zombie apocalypse fantasies become consumed by drama among the survivors. While this is entirely in keeping with human nature, it reduces the survival aspect to merely surviving arguments with the neighbors -- and domestic disputes are dull for me. Not that this aspect ruins the WTF series -- this is a natural progression for this extended story arc. It's just not for me (Its the very thing that ruined The Walking Dead for me). I prefer the installments to be like those old Hardy Boys series (or that Ahern classic, The Survivalist for those looking for a grown-up [sorta] post-apocalyptic equivalent) where every novel in the series is also a stand alone book. Oh, well... I know most series are designed to keep the reader invested ($$$) in the series, but I usually get bored and quit.

But don't let my personal preferences prejudice Bound By Honor. This installment, while a bit longer and more complex than the earlier episodes, is still a darn good action novel. The characters are still interesting (although I dislike the way the relationship between Chelsea and Brad has been dragged out... Geez, let's just get the wedding and consummation bit over with, people! There is a world to re-populate here!!!), and the military and prepper aspects are still authentic and inspired. I like how the Afghan refugees have been integrated into the team as indispensable allies (what might have been if not for the political madness of 2021). It feels like a post-modern western in an almost unrecognizable America where only the strong, the quick, and the most-skilled can survive. It's a thrill ride to the core.

If you read this far into the series then you know I have no other choice than to give this episode the five-stars it deserves. In fact, while my personal preferences were not satisfied, I also recognize in this installment the very seeds of where W.J. Lundy was going as a writer when this came out in 2017. He is the master of the fallen society dystopian prepper book. And as a US military veteran of both the Army and Navy, he knows exactly how military servicemembers think and act -- at least the generation of warriors that came through the 20-year War on Terror. WTF was his first epic series. But his follow-on novels are well worth reading. Because like it or not, dystopia and post-apocalyptic themes have a weird way of presenting future realities -- whether we like it or not.

This novel is HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended.

Another fantastic addition to the 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' series!

Mr. Lundy has kept the story vividly alive and just as fast-paced as the first six books in the series. Although this tale begins two years later, the characters and their priorities still remain true....for the survival of humanity.

I could not put this down and read the whole book in a single evening. The only problem I now have....is that I have to wait for another book! Very well done and the entire series is highly recommended!

The plot, and the creatures, keep evolving

This is almost a modern western, with machine gun toting mountain men, primal creatures evolving, and new allies and threats keep coming out of the wilderness. Life after the end of the world is hard, and so was putting this one down. If you’ve come this far in the series, don’t even think twice about grabbing this one.

For me, this was a slight disappointment. It felt like old ground being retread, with little of the interaction and invention of previous books.

Good

The story line seems to have taken a turn. I don't know that I like this book as much as the others.

Lundy has really developed into a pretty good writer. I like his books. I like the speed at which things happen. The story telling if engaging.

Evidently I've been missing out on a really good series. Even though this is the 7th book in the series it is the first I have listened to.

It took me a chapter or two to get familiar with the story and characters but after that I was hooked. It had my complete attention from start to finish. It's an entertaining story full of action and on the edge of your seat suspense. I enjoyed the story enough to want to go back and listen to the series from the beginning.

As if trying to survive Primal's (zombies) isn't enough in an apocalyptic world you also have to fight to protect what is left of your world from those who would try to take everything from you. Your basic right's, your freedom, your life and everything you love.

Interesting little twist to the zombie's. Some of them have "evolved" they are "intelligent/thinking" alpha zombie's.

Andrew Wehrlen once again does a fantastic job with the narration. He has one of those voices that is perfect for narrating books. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Great character voices. His voice just pulls you into a story and brings it to life. Always a pleasure listening to a book he is narrating.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily provided this review.

The Primals have changed over the past two years. Now they were like wolves or lions, fierce pack hunters. They were smarter than humans first imagined. They were now part of the food chain, apex predators who hunted the same game humans hunted. Brad decided that this time he would finally journey to find his family, or what could be found of them. A new threat appears from a man that envisions taking over the country and heading his own form of government. Looks like Brad’s desires will be put on the back burner once again. Brad, Sean and the rest of the gang once again head into battle; this time into a place called Crabtree. Women and children are captured and put onto trains to head north to the raider’s encampments. It’s up to Brad & crew to stop the raiders and get their people back. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

A WJL. Military SYFY. (End of the World) Action Adventure (BBH) (AWTFNB - 7)

WJL. has penned the seventh Military SYFY. Action Adventure of the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot series. The group has splintered into separate groups, not by design, but by accident. They get separated and one group heads for the Michigan Free Zone and the other to United Texas. When both sets arrive at their destinations they find that things are not as good as they were informed. One of the group's kills General Carson. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Fantastic, As Always!

Top notch series in the military zombie apocalypse genre. But if you've read this far into the series, you already know that.
Is this truly the end, however? Everyone lives happily ever after?? If so, and even still, I'd love to read about how they keep the safe zone safe - from the primals,......and the other humans.
More WTF please!!!! It's too addictive to stop now!

I am not sure why I love this series so much, but I do. Maybe it's the military background of the majority of the characters. I am not military myself but I sure do like the thought of these types of folks trying to fix the broken world. In this book, taking on people who are really trying to dominate the new world for their own gain, is great. The story is action packed and kept me interested. I have to pace myself and read other novels in between so that I can drag out the story

Hope it isn't the end for team WTF

Sounds like a conclusion to Brad, Sean and Brooks. I hope not, but if it is I have enjoyed the series. If you read TEOTWAWKI books, then you'll enjoy the EGG series.

What a ride!

I spent the entire book either cheering the guys, or cursing the General and his minions. The action didn’t let up for the entire book, and left me worn out from the excitement! On to read book 8.

Excellent series about "The End".

Sgt Thompson has been through literal hell with his Seal Team teammates. From the desolation of Afghanistan to war in Virginia. Will he make it to his parents home in Michigan? Only way to find out is to read the series. Enjoy.

WTF over.

This book has been a long time coming but it was well worth the wait. Absolutely fantastic!
A world where the living are now more dangerous than the dead, there is a blurred line between the good and the bad.
Fast paced, violent clashes, vivid descriptions, there is nothing to dislike about this story. Loved it.
