The hero is a big asshole.
Our heroine is a fool who serves as a doormat for the hero to step on.
He still loves his dead wife and became a womanizer after her death.
He rubs the women in the face of the heroine and humiliates her constantly.
She is a poor second choice ever, a replacement. She lives in the house of the deceased wife and even names her daughter with the name of the ex.
I found it hard to swallow his sudden passion for her. I was not convinced. He always despised the love of our heroine and made other choices.
She's always been left behind.
But we have an HEA.

I just buried my heart.

There will never be another woman for me. No other woman will own my heart.

But with me being with Fiona, I couldn’t admit that I stopped seeing her as a little sister when she was around fourteen; I was eighteen at the time.

She told me that she couldn’t be around me and Fiona living happily together. It hurt her heart.

Addy gives in to fighting me as I rip her clothes off and I remove my boxers. We make love right there on the sofa, in front on the blazing fire. After I feel her third orgasm pulsing through her body, I finally let go.

“It should never have happened, Ads.” She flinches at my nickname for her.

I push her away but it hurts me to be close to her, I always feel as if I am cheating on Fiona; even after three years.

“I needed to forget and you were there. Easy.”

I think of my love for Fiona as well. I know that she is gone but she will always be with me.

The family I wanted with Fiona.

Addison has always loved you and was always there for you. But you brushed aside her feelings for Fiona.

...but you enjoyed rubbing it in my face that you were fucking every other girl but me, to what? Hide your feelings for me? That was a shitty way to do it.

...my stomach is churning at the amount of women Dex has been with since Fiona died. He used to flaunt them in front of me all the time. He knew how much he was hurting me but being the dick that he is, he ignored my feelings.

I have wanted but I had always pictured my future with Fiona.

She made it very clear that living in Fiona’s house didn’t bother her.

“I want to name her Phoebe Fiona Castle.”

Another one that I expected the plot to generate angst, but the execution killed it. Dexter grew up with Addison who had a MAJOR crush, but he thought of her as a little sister. He met Fiona in HS and fell hard leaving Addison broken hearted. The book opens after Fiona’s funeral and Dex is dying inside with Addy returning home.

The problem is there’re several jumps that skip over needed development.

It was jarring and didn’t make sense that he suddenly changed his mind after all that time. Then she started (IMHO) acting super immature with her decisions… and I called it.

Bottom Line- I’m not feeling this one at all. It’s book 1, but I feel like I’m missing something (Is this a spinoff?) there’re several secondary characters that read like I should know who they are, but again…first book.

She sits on the sidelines as he works his grief through the female population, rubbing it in her face.

The poor doormat sits pining of unrequited love until he has pity sex with her.

He mourns his late wife and the ‘reserve’ honours the wife by bestowing the child with a dead woman’s name.

This is becoming a pattern.

This was the first novel by Amy Davies I have read and I loved it! These characters had me hooked from the first page.
This book follows the characters Dex & Addy. She's a feisty young girl that works in a tattoo studio with Dex. She's been in love with him since as far back as she can remember. Unfortunately, Dex's wife has just passed away and leaves him in a world of hurt that he can't seem to get out of. Is Addy the one to pull him out? Will he let her pull him out? These two were completely crazy and I loved reading about their drama.
I've moved on to book 2 already!

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, grief, heartbreak, and dirty talking naughty fun.

This is Addy and Dex’s story. Dex lost his wife in a car accident and he is trying to deal with his grief. He is putting all his time and energy into Castle Ink. Addy wants to help Dex but she also wants him. Can she try and help him out but keep her hands to herself? Can they move on from the past and work towards a future together? Or will the past always be in the way?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Have you ever read a book that is not necessarily written well and plot wise is nothing spectacular but somehow you get sucked in anyways? Well that's me with this series. It has grabbed my attention and I have no clue why...i don't think I would even recommend it but here I go to download book 2🤦‍♀️

Oh and for anybody wondering IMO the h wasn't second best

Great read

This was an amazing book I really enjoyed it and definitely will be reading more by Amy Davies. This book has sexy alpha males, crazy @ssed females who can swear like a sailor and is just as tough. Great style writing with lots of potential to expand, I loved every minute.

After going their separate ways and suffering from great tragedy ( the loss of his wife) Addison and Dexter come together once again after 3 years during a dire situation to show that Love will always fine it's way to those who deserve and need it and that doesn't matter if you've loved before as love can happen again. And truthfully these two need to show their love as they pushed it to the back of their minds for years, after falling in love with his first wife Dexter was filled with remorse I as he also loved Addison since they were young and Addison had always loved Dexter fiercely even when he hurt her so as to push her away due to that guilt. This was a great story and I loved each other characters as they show there unique and individuality throughout the whole book from Jay being an overbearing brother to Lauren being a sadistically protective best friend who will decapitate anyone who messes with those she loves, great characters. Can't wait to read more.

This is my first time reading an Amy Davies book and it wasn't a terrific experience. I liked the plot & the writing was clear & well suited to the story. It was the main characters that I had problems with, actually one in particular, Addison, the main female - she just grated on me. She was incredibly selfish & self-centred, to my mind & I really didn't understand why Dex wanted her. She was just plain deceitful & I was unimpressed by her behaviour. Then there was the "new" best friend who took the place of real long term close friends shield known for years & suddenly this women she's known for a couple of weeks is right up there as her BFF! And then there's Dex, whose wife dies in a car accident & he's bereft with grief.
Small wonder I almost gave up reading. I made it to the end & then saw all these 5 star reviews! Did I read the wrong book.... I will give the writer another try with something else that appeals because she has a large collection of published novels & the writing was good. This one was just not for me.

This is a spin-off series from the book This Time Around and it focuses on the Castle Brothers. In my opinion you should read This Time Around to get a better understanding of the group of friends and to see the relationship between Addy and Dex.

Now I’ve been dying to read Dex and Addy’s story because Dex was such a buttmole to sweet Abby. Although their story was sweet and interesting, I felt it was rushed. I just felt that their conflict was resolved a little too quickly and then the last few chapters of book felt like filler. It’s hard to explain, I liked the story and the mushiness but I also found myself “another chapter?” when I turned the page. I also didn’t understand the games they played with each other: Abby leaving a Dex without a word because she was mad and Dex responding by letting a woman feel him up in front of Abby.

For a couple who seemed to love each other they did tend to hurt each other a lot.

I also do NOT like Rachel, she needs to go bye bye.

I needed a good angsty trainwreck of a romance and having come across some reviews decided to try this. It fit the bill but not necessarily in a good way. If you're looking for a fluffy romance when the H and h exist only for each other this isn't it. Here the h is decidedly lacking in spine, and while a lot of the back story is given in bits and pieces there's enough there for us to see the H certainly wasn't invested in the h in the way she was in him. For me that was ok, I had after all read the reviews and forewarned is forearmed. The focus of the story is in the present where the H tries to get the h back, but the past in never properly addressed. What really got on my wick was the editing, so many inconsistencies. In the beginning, he sees she's had her nipples pierced and asks when that happened. In another the h mentions how they did each others nipple piercings. That's just one of many. Makes for a bad reading experience.

I’ve found some amazing authors when they release a free to me book...sadly this is not the case here

Maybe if he’d have been less attracted (wink) and promising to the skank (wink) after being apart for 2 days (wink) I’d have bought the reformed man whore but sorry no...this guys gonna cheat and Addison is a fool (wink)

As she cries and (wink) that’s all Addison does though the whole book (wink) she supposed to be strong and fierce but (wink) tears pour down her face (wink) more then they should and naming the baby after the dead wife? WTAF

I get the whole man whore after the wife dies and maybe he did care for Addison even while married (wink) but this mans too big an ass to even like (wink)

AND it seems(wink) this book won’t end...it’s more drama even after it (wink) should have ended

Wink seems to be this authors favorite form of communication...sorry it drove me bat shit crazy and sadly the drama continues since the next book was free too 🤪

I've read all of Amy's previous books and up until now my favourites were Let Me Love You and the Phoenix boys but I might well have a new favourite!
Dex is.........well he is just about everything you want to find in a book boyfriend!
I seriously couldn't get enough of him and his story.
It had me gripped from the beginning.
Although it added to my enjoyment of the story that I had read previous books that had characters that were mentioned in Dex, you definitely don't need to have read them to enjoy or understand Dex.
So looking forward to the next in this series!

Love through the hurt

I absolutely loved this story . Dex & Addy's story will have your heart breaking , then mending , then cracking , then mending ..... You get the idea .
Dex & Addy have always been close , but not as close as Addy would like . Her love for him hurts her for years , he has hurt her for years . Then she walk away & Dex realizes he can't breath without her .
This is a must read

Once again Amy Davies has produced another good read.

I so wanted to hate Dex at the beginning for what he put Addy through but as the book goes on I really started to warm to him. In the end I was fighting his corner.

I loved Addy and her smart mouth. I do love a girl with a bit of sass and knows how to stand up for herself.

I hope we get to see some other characters with their own books in this series.

Addy has always been in love with Dex from when they were children all hanging out together but he always pushed her away, so when he gets married she moves away from all the hurt. When Dex loses his wife she returns to pay her respect but he manages to break her heart again so she runs away, only Jay has contact with her but she is hiding a secret. This is a great read that will have you hooked, the characters all have their own story to tell and you won't want to miss this great series.

This book was really just ok for me. It had a good plot, but the story just didn't hold up. Hopefully the next book will be better.
