River's Sigh B&B #4

Hook, Line & Sinker

Rate this book
Brian Archer, lawyer and infamous playboy, returns to Greenridge after a long holiday to find his life in ashes. Literally. His condo has burned to the ground, and with it, his delusion that he’s a footloose, fancy-free guy who doesn’t secretly crave a home and a place to belong.

Staying with his lovebird brother and sister-in-law at River’s Sigh B & B proves unbearable, only rubbing in his deep loneliness. As does getting to know one of the other guests, a damsel determined to get herself out of distress, without any help from him. What is it about sweet, troubled Katelyn that makes Brian want to go all knight-in-shining-armor? And why is he suddenly longing for things he doesn’t even believe in, like true love, marriage . . . ?

Single mom and wannabe entrepreneur Katelyn Kellerman needs to escape from Greenridge. Her safety, and that of her children, relies on it. Plus, she knows the hazards of trusting someone all too well. So why, after meeting Brian Archer, does she wish she could just stay put and build a home? With him.

No matter how they fight their feelings, Brian and Katelyn fall for each other hook, line and sinker—but life isn’t a fairy tale. Brian can’t live in limbo forever, Katelyn’s ex is increasingly threatening, and she needs to secure a future for her and her kids. Can they beat the odds, salvage the ashes of their pasts, and risk everything for love, or are they just fishing for trouble?

Complete romantic meltdown here. Ev Bishop’s HOOK, LINE & SINKER is a realistic romance with as many thorns, as roses. Brian Archer took an extended vacation to get away from the family drama in Greenridge. As the lawyer reluctantly returned home, his path to exit the airport was blocked by small children, a little yapper and a beautiful woman who looked devastated and lost. The boy scout in Greenridge’s most eligible bachelor came to life and Brian finds himself loading up Katelyn, two young children and Monster, as well as enough luggage to fill a plane and taking them to the only room available in town at the River’s Sigh B&B. Owned by his brother and sister-in-law, he then found out his footloose and fancy-free life has gone up in flames.

Kaitlyn, too is homeless, on the run from an abusive husband and terrified he will find her. Both of them need a friend, both of them deny there is anything else and the only people they are fooling are themselves. Kaitlyn makes Brian forget he doesn’t believe in long-term relationships. She makes him want one, with her. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn is terrified of repeating history, she wants to stand on her own, raise her children and keep them safe, but she finds herself falling for this kindhearted man.

When her ex re-enters her life, privately threatening her, it is Brian who helps her break free. Will he also lose his chance at romance he never thought existed? Will Kaitlyn run at the first opportunity?

Ev Bishop brings real-life drama and romance to life as two people find friendship and trust in a world that has not been kind. Two amazing characters wear their hearts on their sleeves and the sweetness and tentative budding romance is just swoon worthy. A real life fairy tale!

I received an ARC edition from Ev Bishop in exchange for my honest review.

Hook, Line & Sinker is now my favorite book in this awesome series! It was really hard to put it down when I had to. This is Katelyn and Brian's complex romance story with a lot of baggage from the past damage. The storyline was so good! I was hooked into story instantly. Getting out of the abusive marriage is not an easy thing or even recognize that you're in one. Let alone growing up in such a family as a kid.
The setting of the River's Sigh B&B is picturesque and peaceful and does healing your damaged spirit and mind. Fast paced and easy to read story with lots of fun and laughter too!
Loved all those well developed and authentic characters.
I highly recommend this series! You can read each book as a stand alone but you'll get a complete understanding if you read it from the beginning.

aff velho. meh.
Enfim. Detestei.

This book was just ok for me. I didn't feel the heat or a real connection between the main characters. The kids usually help and while Lacey has definitely been here before, it wasn't enough to make this a good book for me.

It's a lovely series, but I'm ready to take a break after this one. I wonder what happened to "the catch", next book mentioned at the end.

I love this series and I'm a huge fan of Ev Bishop's writing because of her well developed character driven storylines that always engage my heart and soothe my senses with the breathtakingly beautiful natural setting of a small town in the wilds of Canada. This book features the third Archer brother, Brian, who is still reeling from his parents' separation and upcoming divorce, and Katelyn Kellerman and her two small children who have all been traumatized by her volatile and controlling husband. The two main characters share a journey of friendship and self discovery that engaged all of my emotions and kept me on the edge of my seat anticipating the inevitable cataclysmic confrontation between Katelyn and her manipulative husband. This book has everything I look for in in a well written and totally engaging 5 star read!

“Hook,Line & Sinker(River’s Sigh B&B Book 4)”

Another wonderful book by a great author. These books are worth every second you spend reading them, and this one was no exception.River’s Sigh is a wonderful B&B with cabins and trails for walking and a dining and craft room. The people who own it are friendly, down to earth people who encourage that same sort of people to rent from them.Katelyn is an abused woman with two small children, getting a divorce from said abuser. But as all abusers,he doesn’t care about the piece of paper and insists she’s still his.She finds herself attracted to a lawyer who is friends with the owners and staying there after his house fire.Of course, the attraction is mutual, but they are careful not to be public about it.But exhusband still finds out.
Of course,I can’t tell you more but know this is a really good book and worth the read!

Fated to be lovers or just friends

I loved this storyline. You can't help falling in love with Brian and Kate. Sawyer and Lacey are like the icing on the cake, too adorable for words. Kate has left her abusive husband and is trying to make a secure life for her and her children. Brian is misunderstood by his family and having a difficult time dealing with the breakup of his parents marriage. It is almost agonizing to watch them try not to fall in love while dealing with her ex husband and his family and work situation. The characters were well presented and the story moved along smoothly. I have already downloaded the first book in the series so I can catch up. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

The horrors of living with an abusive spouse are devastating and often become deadly.

Love the characters in this story. When a wife escapes from an abusive mate she usually lives in fear and is unsure of how to move on. This is a realistic story and has some drama and suspense. There's compassion and concern as a friend from the past reaches out to the wife and children and a special bond is formed. Amidst all the strife there were times I laughed out loud at the wit and humor.

Loved it.

Oh WOW how I wish to visit such a beautiful place. I have loved every page of this story. Brian and Katelyn found each other just when they were both lost and needing each other. I loved the kids characters, often kids in stories are written too old/young for their characters age but they were perfect.
I have a feeling I have read this story before but to be honest, I'd be happy to read it many times over.
I cannot recommend this book enough. Personally, I'm now off to read the books I missed. Happy reading!

Great read!

I loved this book! Brian and Katelyn meet again years after high school and sparks fly, even though Katelyn is separated but still married to Steve. I love the way this author writes. Her characters are intriguing and the storyline is interesting plus she keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. At one point, I literally dropped this book, so overcome by an event unfolding during a desperate moment. Wonderful book!

I'm not sure why I finished this. The characters were meh, and I felt like there was a lot of interaction missing from the sub-characters. Brian is definitely NOT a Type A male, and there didn't seem to be much chemistry between he and Kate. The conflict and resolution were well done, but the ending left a lot to be desired. HFN. Standalone, but you might benefit from reading the other books so the other characters make sense in the story.

A great read

It was great to be back at River's Sigh B &B although this could also be read as a stand alone story. This is a charming, heart-warming and sometimes funny romance despite the individual problems that brought Brian and Katelyn together at River's Sigh. I thoroughly recommend this book and the others in this delightful series.

Ev Bishop tackled the difficult subject of spousal abuse with grace, strength, and intelligence in this book. I loved her cast of characters. They were strong, witty, and loving but had self doubts that are certainly understandable. The setting was so beautiful as described by Ms Bishop.
I would absolutely recommend this book.

Finding Happiness after Abuse

The telling of both sides of a romance is always interesting. A woman who has lived in an abusive marriage will appreciate the ins and outs of this story. If only men were in tuned to the woman's feelings as Brain was life would be easier. Great read with an intriguing story line.

Lovely story

Brian is seen as just a playboy by his family. His parents marriage is a poor example of love, so he avoids any long term relationship. But then he offers a ride from the airport to a woman and her two kids and a friendship begins there are some tense times when her ex becomes threatening.

I almost stopped reading when I saw that the woman was abused by her husband. Very glad I pushed through, no real threatening scenes. Just a good love story with depth.

Fear, heartache, an abusive marriage, longing, hope, learning to trust again and move on, new beginnings, finding true love, home, and happiness. Can Katelyn and Brian find true love and happiness together?

Good story about separated husband not letting still-wife and 2 kids go, but a bit too much to and fro between the main protagonists for my taste.
Still, good narration, likeable characters, and a good plot.

A HEA with a lot of angst. Humorous dialogue - both kids (precocious) and adults (insightful). Insight into abuse (not always physical) that might trigger some perspective for readers.
