Wizard without a license. Defender of London. The Hunter in the Darkness. Not a title I wanted, but that's who I am now. Vampires are trying to destroy my city. We're one mistake away from the world knowing about magic, but the vampires don't care. They just crave their next fix. I have to stop them, but I can't risk using the demonic powers I have. Whatever lurks inside me, it's dark, and it's hungry. I will find a way to fight on my own. Vampires are not the only evil in this world.
Blood Hunt (Codex Blair Book 2) by Izzy Shows is another great action fantasy by Ms Shows. This time our gal is battling vamps. Using all the magic in her power, with the help of a reluctant vamp, and a mortal detective, they battle a rogue group of vamps that are killing mortals in the city. Lots of kick ass action, mysteries, touch of romance (or is it lust? umm), and many secrets hinting around the corner just ready to be exposed. This book keeps the reader glued to the book and won't let them go. Exciting and full of a fresh look at vamps and the supernatural. The ending...opening a whole new chapter to her life, wow. Can't wait.
This is a great series and I'm so excited that there are loads more books to read. Blair is a credible character that is easy to relate to and visualise, put that together with plenty of fighting action and you have a novel that is hard to put down. The supporting characters are well crafted with identifiable personalities and fit seamlessly into the series as a whole. I've got the next book to go and can't believe they're all on Kindle Unlimited - what a boon.
What an amazing read from start to finish you want more and more. Such. Characters are so real to the point you want to go to the local pub to drink with them. Loved it
I received this book for free from author in exchange for an honest review.
First I'd like to say the cover is beautiful. This is the 2nd book in the codex Blair series. Takes place a few months after the battle where Aiden died. Throughout the book I felt Blair's sadness with missing Aiden. I'm not too sure how I feel about Shawn yet. I don't like Finn, Carmen is ok, Dudley the vampire lord has earned a soft spot with me. I like Geoff the wolf! Wolves are my absolute favorite.
Izzy has shown that she's a very talented author and I can't wait to read the next books in the series.

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of this book. My review is my own.
It was so nice getting this book so soon after reading the first one in this series. Blair is still reeling from the events in Grave Mistake. She may be in mourning, but that doesn't mean she is going to sit by and let it happen again. Girl has been training hard, and it's paid off. She is such a badass. There were so many YAAAAAAAS moments in this one. I found myself hoping for more deadly confrontations because Blair is just so much fun when she's staking and decapitating vamps. She was like Buffy, but with much more swearing. This is such a fun series, and I can't wait to read the next one.
I love this series and I loved this book even more than the first. Blair has matured and grown since the incident and it shows. She grieves but also forms new relationships and I can't wait to keep reading how those go.
The action packed book is filled with charm that makes you wanting more. I'm so excited for the next novel in the series I hope it will be good as the sequel.
I like it, it was action packed. Izzy irritates me when she can't ask for help and thinks she can do everything by herself. Other then that can't wait to see what happens next.
Blair is stronger, smarter, and snarkier than before. This time she's neck deep in fangs as the city has a vampire issue. As the self-proclaimed protector of the city, she has been working on both her magical and physical skills and patrols at night.
The cast of characters continues from the first novel, and we get to see some old favorites and see how Blair's bond with them has strengthened with the passage of time.
This is an enjoyable continuation of the series. The story picks up about a year and a half after the first book - while not absolutely required reading, the first novel does help fill in some of the reference gaps that would otherwise exist. The series is well worth the read and Izzy Shows does a great job expanding and fleshing out the fictional world.
NOTE: Unlike in the first book, there is more explicit sexual content.
I've smashed through the 1st and 2nd book within 2 days. It is a great series so far and I am rushing through this review to read #3. Here are my thoughts to hopefully help you in your choice.
Likes: I love Blair, the main character. She is strong willed, independent, and fierce. All things I look for in a female protagonist. But she is still vulnerable in her relationships. The supernatural creatures strengths and weaknesses are true to the old legends. The story is unique and original.
Dislikes: The story moves fast I someplace and slows down in others. I would like more descriptions to the backdrops and characters that are introduced so that I can visualize them better.
Author builds us into believing Blair is a tough gal. In each book she disappoints us by allowing Blair to be weak. Building her character stronger, to have the reader question if our heroine is the weak link. Author should retool her work. It should not take as many pages for each outcome, with a "I can't kill". Readers want strong women. Not someone who questions the BAD guy.
My main issue with this book was that the final battle was a bit anti-climactic. I feel like the big bad wasn’t quite big bad enough. But beyond that, I greatly enjoyed getting to know a few more supernatural denizens, I love Blair’s equal opportunity dating platonic best friend and their relationship so much, and I’m even okay with her hook up. None of the romance stuff feels forced and that’s a nice change.
The character is good, the story is good. In the 1st book there was too much going on and it felt like the author forgot about storylines and then rushed things. Same w/ this book, minus the rushing. Through out this book, I felt like, did the author just forget she wrote things? Our protagonist seems like the most absent minded person in many book I've ever read.
I like the premise & the story did flow, but numerous things took me from the story and irritated me. In the 1st book the female was not likable, she improves in this book though is still annoying. Some inconsistencies are noted between the two books as well which is bothersome. The main fight scene was too unrealistic.
Oooohhhh... very interesting. The "dark one" scene was a bit anticlimactic, but in her condition, she wouldn't have survived the climactic version, so I can accept it. The rest was great! I wonder what Mal meant when he said that she smelled like demons? Also, I think the next book has some serious potential based on that ending.

Blood hunt was a wild ride and we'll worth the read. I enjoyed the twists and intrigue of the story and the character building of Blair and all around dinner her.
If you enjoyed the first book this will not disappoint.
I'm looking forward to reading the next on the series!!
Pretty good story although the main characters decision making wasn't the greatest and it got a little annoying. There was a lot of action and I really like Mal so I am hoping there will be a lot more of him as the series continues. I enjoyed the book enough that I am going to pick up the next one so I would say it's worth the read.
Well, Izzy, you did it again! I have been looking for a new series to read for a long while and usually I take a pass on them after the 1st book when it fails to to keep my attention. The Codex Blair series has managed to capture my attention (and all of my spare time) the way most series I’ve tried recently haven’t. Now, on to book 3...
Blair is really good at complaining. I found this book to be whiny and redundant. As Blair hunts a rogue vampire in her city she finds new things to fret and complain about over and over and over. She refers to Aiden like a lifetime mentor when she only worked with him for a few weeks before he died in the previous book. Overall too annoying to enjoy.
I enjoyed Blair significantly more in this installment! There were still some meh moments about her personality that seemed contradictory to her persona, but I enjoyed following along with her adventure and rooting out the evil. I liked the ending and can't wait to start the next book later!
Blair enjoyable strong female lead. sometimes too quick to take blame for events she has no control over. Would be good to have move information regarding her friends and their backgrounds Why is Mal so eager to help What is Fred's story. Otherwise page turner keeps me awake reading
So similar to Jim Butcher's series 'The Dresden Files' that I am surprised anyone would agree to publish this series.... the author should try coming up with an original concept instead of taking someone else's.
Fast paced, full of action. The second book of a great series, even better than the first. I really enjoyed this book, which follows on from book one. The book is well written with a great storey line and great characters. Blair is a fantastic strong character, and her friends have continued to develop, Finn is really getting involved. What's going on between Mal and Blair? and Shawn? Loved the ending, can't wait for the next book. I received an ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review
So, I woke up this morning to discover that my pre-ordered copy of "Blood Hunt" had been delivered to my Kindle. Since I was home, in bed with bronchitis it certainly gave me something to look forward to. I wasted no time diving into the story!
Blair had been walking a fine line of insanity when she finally discovered that she is a mage/wizard. However, before she had a chance to receive the proper training, her teacher Aiden, was killed in an epic battle with a necromancer. This catastrophic event left her with strong bounds formed with a demon, ravens, an angel and Finn, a friend who is a detective in a paranormal special unit and one sexy doctor, Shawn who has been warned to ask no questions.
Blair stopped a vampire attack on an unsuspecting woman but is wondering why the Baron of London is allowing such attacks. Before she has a chance to ask him, she is visited by Finn who enlists her help on a string of strange beheading where the victims were left without a drop of blood. However, she is mortified that Finn has revealed her talents to 5 selected officers under his command. Although she tells him that the murders were caused by vampires, it is confirmed when she pulls out a skill no one saw coming. Most of the officers decide she is a charlatan while one is a true believer and I ain't talking Bieber.
When Blair goes to see the Baron, Dudley, she is shocked he allows her to visit her with all of the wooden stakes she is armed with as well as the fact he and Aiden didn't get along. He is shocked to hear of the unsanctioned attacks on human and assigns Blair a very unhappy vampire assistant, Carmen. As they begin investigating, Finn is none too pleased with her inclusion in on his case. Also, it seems that Blair has caught someone's attention because now she has fallen under various attacks meant to kill her. No one seemed to tell the bad guys she wouldn't cooperate.
Just like the first novel I really enjoyed the uniqueness in the world building and the plot. Additionally, the characters draw you into their lives with each page. Where I had challenges was with the overly repetitious use of key magical phrases such a 'Vis.' Honestly, it drove me crazy! Also, the character of Fred felt too much like Dobbie in Harry Potter. It was a shame not to give him more prominence in this read. Even though these challenges left me with no choice but to give this read four stars rather than five, I felt it was a marvelous read! I just hope that the author considers some of these suggestions for future installments. I with that being said, I am eagerly looking forward to reading upcoming installments.
