This is a Christian book. Inside the book, next to the ISBN, it is literally labelled as a "Christian biography." The goodreads page does not list it as such, thus why I am making a point to denote it here. That aside, it was juvenile writing, & the stories sounded pretty sculpted. The 2-stars is really generous. I wouldn't recommend it, except maybe to a Christian old enough to have adored the Rogers' on their childhood t.v. sets.

I'm a child of the fifties and I grew up with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans on my TV every Saturday morning and their movies every chance I got. Usually there were a couple of old westerns on Sunday afternoon, all the greats Hoppy, Gene, Rex (Allen or Bell), Tex (Ritter), Johnny (Mack Brown) but of all the heroes Roy Rogers was my favorite.

I have read many bios of Roy and I suppose one would have to be pretty bad for me not to ride back in time and take some refuge for a time in thise memories and a world where right and wrong were onvious, where a mans word was his bond and a handshake meant something.

I have followed Roy's life from childhood at times living on a house boat (not a luxury house boat) to moving west and getting into show business. From the loss of his first wife to his life with Dale and their love of children. This is a man (and a couple) still to be looked up to.

Great book! If you have appreciated the legacy of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, you'll appreciate this very human depiction of life in their home and the grace of God that created such a godly heritage. As a pastor's kid, I too appreciate the perspective of living in a fish bowl and sharing your parents.

I love Roy and Dale and naturally enjoyed reading a book by their son.
I have read many books by and about them and I really liked reading one from Dusty's point of view.
I loved Dusty's honesty. He wasn't afraid to share that they weren't perfect and made mistakes.

Definitely, a must-read for fans of Roy and Dale.

My son is a real "Roy Rogers" fan and we loved reading this book together. There were a few spots I skipped when Dusty was being rebellious but most of it was great reading! Roy Rogers godly character really was a wonderful example to children but an amazing husband and father.

I am a child of the 80’s. I only knew who these 2 actors were from them briefly spoke of by my grandparents as they watched their films on cable tv. These actors’s films and shows were not even on reruns on regular television while I was a child. But, you don’t have to know who they were to read the book. The story was more about their family life and spoke of their devotion to God and what that looked like day to day and how their lives looked even though the parents were stars. I was encouraged in my faith in Jesus Christ by one phrase that kept coming up. The mother of the family, Dale Evans, kept encouraging her children in their life by saying “the only Bible many people may ever read is your life.”

My cousin read this book first and then gave to me. She had a sticky note inside saying there was too much "bible thumping". Then I noticed this book is a Guideposts edition. I would've liked to read more about Dale's previous marriages and her son. I didn't know they had adopted several children. I was just thinking it would be different.
