Alberto Toso Fei descends from an ancient family of glassmasters in Murano, and is an expert on the history and the mysteries of Venice. He is a journalist and has written a series of books that constitute an anthology of mystery in Venice and the lagoon.

Atmospheric in a way only Alberto Toso Fei can capture Venice.

In musical parlance, ‘Mysteries in Venice’ could be considered the extended remix of Toso Fei’s ‘Veneziaenigma’. There is a fair degree of overlap, but this book contains a significant amount of additional material (while Veneziaenigma retains enough original stories to remain worthwhile in its own right). And the inclusion of the QR codes linking to short videos brings this book of centuries long past right into the modern era.

I’ve been to many of these places individually, but would love nothing more than to follow Toso Fei’s routes with this book in hand. Given the current situation, I wasn’t able to get to Venice for real while reading the book, but Google Earth provided a pretty good approximation (even though all images are taken during daylight). That said, it can’t wait for a chance to take Toso Fei’s nocturnal tours for real.

Сама книга совершенно чудесная, такое почти идеальное сочетание путеводителя с историческими фактами, мифами, легендами мест, интересными деталями. Не перегружено фактами, читается легко. И на мой взгляд очень хорошо будет работать именно как путеводитель, чтобы гулять по предложенным маршрутам и разглядывать все эти детали, здания, мосты, узнавая про них не самые известные вещи
