John Kinkaid and Tammy Marx meet under the most unusual of circumstances and their lives are forever changed. Tammy, a devoted housewife, lived a quiet life raising her two children. That is until her husband cheated on her and began to abuse her. Tammy had a plan to get out of the marriage, but things didn’t go as she had hoped.

John Kinkaid, a former United States Marine, is a member of Detroit’s top SWAT unit. After being with the unit for many years he is getting ready to retire from the force. His past relationships have failed miserably and it can be mostly attributed to his love of alcohol. He carried his self-destructive ways into the workplace and decided one night to take the law into his own hands. This led to a world of trouble that he never dreamed he would be in.

When John and Tammy’s lives cross paths it starts them down a trail of twists and turns neither would have ever imagined. Tammy finds herself doing things outside the box, completely out of character for her. John finds himself with feelings he never had but is it enough to change his old ways?

Along the way, each of them will learn more about irony than they ever expected.

The story takes place over several days and it gives you incredible insight into what a man goes through when he crosses over from cop to criminal. The novel contains courtroom and prison insights and descriptions that are so authentic you feel like you are there.

This was my first book and it took almost three years to finish. I wanted to create a troubled character with the normal issues that a lot of people face, but his path had to go a different direction than the norm. The secondary character evolved as the book unfolded and I really had no idea that she was going to turn out how she did. I'm glad that a lot of people have enjoyed the unpredictable ending as that is what I was trying to do. Also, a great deal of research went into the courtroom scenes to make sure that they were 100% authentic in the proceedings. I'm glad everyone has enjoyed it. For those who haven't read it, if you like crime, unpredictable stories, and suspense/drama... I think you'll like this.

On Ice
By Scott Stevens

When you read a lot of crime thrillers, your mind gets set in a pattern so that you know that if the girl gets into the strangers car it is not going to end well. This book sucked me so much I really did not see the end coming in a million years. It is just pure genius.
I liked the prologue it told details of the main character John Kinkaid, it was in simple terms no fancy wording, easy to read. Straight to the point, much like the rest of the book.
It is difficult to review this book without giving too much away other than saying it is the best book I’ve read in a long, long time and is my favourite and would make a hell of a film.

The moral of the story is . . .

"On Ice" is the story of SWAT team member John Kinkaid who is nearing retirement. He is called to a hostage situation where an armed man is holding his wife and two children hostage in their home. After establishing his position, John repeatedly requests permission to take the shot and each request is denied. John disobeys the order and kills the hostage-taker with a single head shot.

John is arrested and tried for first degree murder, found guilty and sentenced to death. But wait, we're just getting started. He becomes entangled with the wife-hostage and things get interesting.

The storyline is original and the characters are good. But errors and a disturbing lack of punctuation slow the reading process. I will give this author another try because I liked the story.

I put true crime on ice

I rarely read fiction and when I do it's a Gyllian Flynn novel or something similar. This particular author of this work of fiction is very interactive with his readers and that made me want to give it a stab. I'm actually glad I did. The characters are flawed just the way I like them. I really liked "Tammy". The story twists this way and that all the way to the surprising conclusion. I think true crime readers might enjoy this book because it deals with law enforcement, trials, jail, and family disintegration. It's a little steamy too, even on ice.

This was my first book by Scott Stevens and it definitely won't be my last. I was hooked from the start and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found some parts a little rushed but it didn't effect the story at all and was still very easy to follow. Stories like this one must take a lot of time and it is clear that Scott has done his research.

I am very undecided on if I like the characters or not which I actually think is really good. It made the story unpredictable. One minute I sympathised for them and the next I wanted to shake them and yell 'what were you thinking??'.

Overall it was a very good read and I look forward to giving his other books a go!

I bought this book and read it in a day. From the getgo I was hooked. The characters likable, intriguing and enthralling. The precsicion and dedication in the easy readable style, shows more of a seasoned author than a new one. Still certainly well worth a read, Scott Stevens is not going to be a 'new author' for long, as he's going to be up there with the greats really soon.

Must read

All I can say is after reading thousands of books, this is the first time in ages that I had no idea what was going to happen. Think you have it figured out? Read it to the end. You won't!

Interesting

The book held my attention making me have to finish it the same day. The dynamic between the main characters where a whirlwind. The only thing that got me is waiting for the twist other reviews mentioned. From the character progression you can tell how it would end up. The best part is the mirroring of the beginning and end. You start to see that just one difference can change a persons outlook and direction of life. Overall this was enjoyable and I would love to see how the author grows in his writing!

Intriguing Crime Drama!💜

Well, this story had so many twists and turns it was a roller coaster ride for sure. I’m not sure how I feel about this book. IMO some parts were just unbelievable while other parts kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. I seriously didn’t know who’s side I was on most of the time and I never saw the ending coming. The narration was very good. Jeff Hutchins has a very deep and sexy voice when the character calls for it and then does a good job on his female voice too.
