Byron is tall, handsome, cultured, and rich. He's also an unrepentant serial killer with a penchant for bloody, gruesome torture. His techniques and ability to hide in plain sight come from a lifetime of honing his skills, and no one who walks through his doors ever sees the light of day again.

Micheal's been at his job so long that he's bored and disillusioned and can barely remember the days when his work used to bring him joy. He finds himself dumping more and more of his workload on his subordinates so that he can play hooky. He knows something needs to change . . . but what?

When Micheal's boss decides to send him on an unusual errand, Micheal and Byron are thrown together, and each finds themselves challenged in ways they never expected. But there is a mystery at the heart of their uneasy relationship—will unravelling the past solve that mystery and give them their hearts' desires?

This horror novella contains graphic descriptions of murder and torture. Please consult the full list of content warnings within.

Group Review with Lori and Cupcake! 5 Hearts from the lot of us. Bloody brilliant (literally)!

See our reviews here:

FIVE HEARTS
--This one is for the dark and twisted lovers.

Before jumping into the bloody, stabby goodness, do yourself a favor, if you're faint of heart or don't usually read torture porn: read a sample. The first 10 % sets the tone in graphic detail. If you can handle that, then you can handle this book.

Clever

This is clever, pulls no punches and hurts real good. I was butchered by the sharpest blade from a talented swordsman. His weapon of choice? His words. (And I love my swords)

Byron is monster among men: too brilliant, too handsome, too wealthy, too insane. You know the guy you fear to never meet in a dark alley? Byron's that guy times a million. Hell, you don't want to meet Byron in the light of day. He's stone cold and this is his story. "Better the Devil You Know" is an erotic horror thriller that read like a movie. We get to not only read Byron's serial killer rap sheet but experience his dirty deeds at different periods of his life.

It's gruesome.

And every tag on this book is fully earned. Because I don't want to give away a major plot twist, my favorite character from the book happens to be the other guy! I've wanted to read a book starring him...in quite sometime. It's been done before but I liked the author's way writing him. Plus, the world building was top notch (as usual) I could see every gush of blood, every horrid detail...oh, I quivered in delight.

My fucked up scale is warped, seriously warped. I thought it could have went even further than it did...and I don't know if the human body can sustain the torture performed. The main players impressed me with their skills.

Hands down, one of my favorite reads of 2015.

It read effortless. Nothing read as if it was written for shock value. It was depraved and classy. If the tags don't turn you off and you don't need romance (this is so not), I can't recommend this enough.

P.S. I'm gaga for this cover. Cover, title, book, the entire concept is a win-win-win for me.

this was very entertaining and had a really imaginative premise overall. the execution could have been better tbh, but it was engaging regardless. kept me guessing until the end! this was also quite dark and violent, triggers galore.

lucifer was a pretty charming character, despite his violent & deranged nature (duh, he’s lucifer), but byron… now THAT’S one sick and twisted bastard! 🤣
they were both very intriguing though, i kind of wanted to keep reading just to see how much more fucked up they can get.

you’re definitely not gonna like this if you’re not into violent, gory, disturbing books. but if you are… i recommend giving this a shot!😋

description

My mom loves movies. She goes all the time and gets amped up around award season over which movies she’s already seen and which ones need to be seen. Plans are made. Distances are sometimes travelled. She drags dad along because she's a giver like me. He’s a good sport about it and always has kind words, though I suspect he’d much rather see movies wherein shit gets blown up rather than arty indie flicks but whatevs. It’s their thing and it’s cute as hell. But you know how those award movies can be, right? Critics LOVE them. Audiences… not so much. But back to mi madre. She does this thing when I ask her how such and such movie (read: intense) was. She usually makes (what I’ve termed) The Big Eyes with the associated double eyebrow raise and says, ‘it was good, so and so was phenomenal, but I’ll never need to see it again.’ and that, my friends, sums up how I feel about this book.

BeyBey can write. This is not news. Objectively speaking, the storyline is on point. How everything comes together was perfectly executed. The secondary characters made the experience worthwhile. The characterization of Byron is brilliant in its monstrosity; he has no redeeming qualities. He’s the sort of character that inspires and stars in my nightmares because he’s a real, everyday monster. I had one niggle with regard to the “psychosis” mentioned, but that’s an occupational hazard and I’m not going to split hairs over it.

The story is gripping and if you’re a horror fan, you’re going to be drunk with happiness like a cat in a pile of catnip. But I am a squishy cupcake and a lover not a fighter. I unabashedly prefer sex to violence, so this was a struggle for me. If you’re going to put rape and torture in my books then I need redemption or retribution in the end. Neither occurred here. My reactions were visceral and a couple times I thought I was going to have to abandon ship which is a testament to the power of the writing and how talented BeyBey is, that I pushed myself to finish because I wanted to know.

Will I read it again? Fuck no! I deleted it from my kindle already. Am I sorry I read it? No. It was an experience. An experience akin to the madre's most recent experience with Black Mass. Once was plenty.

I was really curious about this book although I knew it isn't romance which is my favourite genre lately. But I used to love horror, so the book was familiar territory for me.

The book was intense, gory, bloody, weird, disturbing with unexpected bits. It was fascinating at times. Other times not so interesting. But it is short, so it didn't really matter a few pages that they were a bit repetitive.

Three are the mysteries of the book:
1.Who is Byron
2.Who is Michael
3.Who is Gloria

The book is paranormal. Nothing is what is seems. The job description of the three main characters is not really clear until the last few pages. And then there will be a kind of happy (???) ending.

I read a few reviews that were saying that if you manage to get through the first chapter, you will be fine with the rest of the book. I completely disagree. I found some of the scenes later on particularly disturbing. And there are triggers there for me that I would definitely avoid in the books that I read. But we are talking about the devil here, so I suppose anything can be included.

"If I have already died, then I cannot experience mortal pain, can I? The fear of death is what drives man to succumb to his pain—fear weakens the resolve. Without the fear of death, what is left?"

Byron is a sick fuck. if you read the synopsis for this novel, you could probably come to that conclusion yourself. but for some stupid reason, I underestimated his ability to do fucked up shit. *sigh* what a grave miscalculation I made.

before I was about 24% through the novel, it didn't seem too bad. the gory scenes made me question my own existence, and the writing was a little confusing, but everything was going alright. until Gloria and Byron's scene takes place.

in the scene, Gloria and Byron are in a hotel room after they hooked up. I'm fairly certain Gloria is a transgender woman, and she needed money to pay for a legal name change and surgery, so she did these "transactions" for money to pay for that. and after the two hookup, Byron figures this out. so what does he do? he drugs her and explains how he'll cut off her dick, of course.

“I’m going to tell you exactly what I’m going to do to you, my beautiful Gloria. First, I’m going to cut this pathetic, unwanted, sad little penis off your beautiful body. Then, I’m going to make some cuts and open you up”—Byron’s breathing became heavier and his face was flushed—“And then I’m going to make love to you, Gloria. I’m going to make you a real woman. I know, I know… You probably didn’t imagine your first time as a real woman would be with a gay man. In fact, it might take a really long time for me to achieve orgasm again, but the blood should help. Hopefully, you last that long.”

and as if this wasn't bad enough, Gloria brings up the point of being just another statistic after she dies

"I’m a fucking statistic. A stereotype. Another black tranny murdered in cold blood. She wondered if anyone would even claim her body."

which quite literally broke my heart in two. I wanted to feel better after she reappeared in the story numerous times as an angel or some type of hallucination, but I couldn't. at the end of the day, she would be just another tragic case or upsetting statistic instead of a real person.

so yeah, Gloria's backstory chapter made me want to cry. but when I thought back on this novel and Byron's character, I realized something: Byron commits these sadistic crimes to fulfill his fantasy, he gets away with it (in the mortal world), and then he gets to have a powerful position in hell. yes, in real life, lots of people do horrible crime like Byron and get away with it, but that's not the point.

Byron literally gets to kill innocent people left and right in horrific ways to feed his fantasy, and has no remorse for his actions. he gets a somewhat happy ending because he's some type of king in hell, but his victims didn't get that. no, his victims just have their corpses in the ground, all because they accidentally stumbled upon Byron.

and yes, I know, this is very clearly marketed as a dark and gruesome book, so I shouldn't be complaining. but I fucking am because this shit makes me upset. why would I root for a character that has no moral or emotional development after killing countless innocent individuals? why would I? I see no reason to, and that's why I was infuriated with Byron's character.

to add onto my huge frustrations with Byron, I didn't like the writing. a lot of times, I had no clue what was going on. and if I did, then the scene/chapter would end so quickly that I wouldn't have the full picture that the author was trying to depict. of course, this is heavily subjective. but it still upset me a bit because I was trying my best to enjoy the book, yet it was hard to because the writing made me not want to read the novel at all.

in conclusion, "Better The Devil You Know" is a novel built on a very creative premise with unique characters that didn't work for me. but you shouldn't even be surprised at this point. if I can't like the main protagonist, then how the fuck am I supposed to like the story? mhm, that's what I thought.

Lucifer was pretty dope and had some development on the horizon, but he deserves someone better than Byron. sorry, someone had to say it. doesn't matter what my opinion on the two is anyway, since most people who read this book probably ship them. Byron is a sick fuck that I don't give a shit about, and I think that this book could've been executed a lot better. but the story was thought-provoking, so that's a plus. not sure if I would really recommend this though.

Not for the faint of heart... I freaking loved it. Not sure what that says about me, mind. Group review soon at bmbr.

*****************************************************************

This books was dark and twisted and seriously fucked up. Like seriously.

And I loved every single word.

To be fair, if you make it past the first chapter, then you're probably going to make it through the whole story. At least, that was how it was for me. Those first pages - whoa. It was like walking across burning coals, only to find out they weren't glowing a little, but actually flaming still. I read the labels, I knew it was not for the faint of heart...

What disturbed me more than Bey's execution of words though, was the fact that, however fucked this was, however uncomfortable I felt, there was a part of me that was turned on just a bit. That is the best bit about fiction; the fact that it's fictitious. Knowing it's not real apparently oils the moral compass a little.

A wonderful piece of writing from a master of words. Dark, twisted, fucked up - and oh so bloody clever.

You’re the sick piece of shit.

Heh, Maybe? But I own it.

Before I get into the review of this book, let me tell you a bit about myself. I like dark books. I like things that make you kinda sick to your stomach when you read them. The darker, more shocking, more WTAF is going on and why do I like it and the extreme nausea inducing the better. Now, I can’t watch the same subject matter, but I can read the things someone would watch and be okay with it. But my adoration for the dark and twisted books, the scary books started many years ago with a collection of short stories by Stephen King titled, Skeleton Crew.

You see, I read Skeleton Crew in the sixth grade, shockingly the library allowed one of their young repeat customers to check it out, and I did a book report on it. The report focused on my favorite short story, which remains my favorite to this day, “Survivor Type.” The story is told in diary form of one Richard Pine, a surgeon and heroin addict on a deserted island slowly going out of his mind. Richard is hungry and well, there is no food but he does have: Four gallons of water, a sewing kit and a first-aid kit. Why is that important to the review of this book? Because at the age of eleven, I was hooked on a story about a surgeon who decides to slowly amputate parts of his body as sustenance. You can imagine the call home from my teacher to my parents about my book report and how inappropriate it was of me to read such a graphic and gruesome story. *grins* See, the darkness started early with this ginger and even today, hearing Lady Fingers mentioned, makes me think fondly of Richard.

But my love of that story and honestly of Stephen King was not just due to the darkness but the fantastic words that told the story. Anything dark or “tough” to read, has to be written well or it’s just for shock value and that does nothing but leave me cold. Well written stories, no matter the content, are just that. Well written and well written stories that take you to another place you’d never imagine going before.

So on to this book, when I saw SheRead's review and she mentioned it was for lovers of the dark and twisted, my senses tingled. When I read the sample, I was stunned and yet completely intrigued by Byron and then the twist happened.

Holymotherfuckingshitballs, was that ever a brilliant twist and I knew right then, I had to run and buy the book.

Wow.
Doesn’t this feel sort of like a horror movie?

Totally, but so well written (do I need to start counting how many times I have said that?) that it could only be in book form. This author, killed me with his words. I have been flayed and drained and every bit of it was worth it. It was exquisite torture.

And that title! I love a good title when it really fits the story and yeah, um… hang on …
You start a conversation you can't even finish it.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything.
When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed.
Say something once, why say it again?

Psycho Killer,
Qu'est-ce que c'est

~ Talking Heads

Where was I again? Oh yeah. Reviewing this book.

Anyway, the world building is amazing and this is coming from a lazy reader who balks at world building due to the amount of work it takes but this, was easy to fall into and become one with the darkness. It was seductive and yeah, really good.

Now, I refuse to spoil this book. I will say as SheRead's did, read the sample and if you can handle it, move on because it’s so freaking fracking worth it.

This was like a Danse Macabre version of The Twilight Zone which is one of my favorite all time shows. Each episode was rich with dark irony that left this viewer breathless with its beauty and this, believe it or not, does the same. And that end? Holymotherfuckingshitballs, it was excellent!

I will leave you with this: Mind the tags, mind the disclaimer because all of that is in this story. All of it is there, and I’ll admit to some of it, being well… titillating.

Oh, nothing like that, mon cher monster…

But then again, maybe it is? *smirks*

Last note because I have to include it and yes, only look if you read the book because it could be a spoiler… this song was on constant repeat in my head

Tags: graphic torture, forced incest, rape

First let me say that this book is not for everyone. It’s dark and twisted and completely depraved. I loved it!

The book starts off with a horrifyingly gruesome scene where we meet serial killer Byron Danielson “enjoying” two of his victims. It only gets worse (better?) after that as we experience Byron’s killings in disturbingly graphic and gory detail.

As interesting and deranged as Byron was it was the other guy, Michael, who really grabbed me. His character was fascinating and he’s who I wanted more of. I’d say this is just as much his story as it is Byron’s.

I want to say more but I can’t really tell you what this book is about because it’s the twists and turns the story takes that made this so great. Every time I thought I knew where it was going, the plot took a completely different direction. It made for a clever and thrilling read.

I love gore and horror and those are what first caught my attention but it was the excellent writing that kept me captivated. This is my first book by Deckard but it definitely won’t be my last. I’m off to devour his backlist!

That was just beautiful. The way that the story flowed from character to character, told from multiple pov's, it drew me right in to each person's experience. Perfect.

Byron was one of those hate to love characters - my favorite kind. I really enjoyed how his character is revealed through his victims' stories (and Lucifer reading them like a novel, that's just great). The jumping timeline is perfect here, really well done.

Oh Saeed, that one broke my heart a little. And his relationship with Michael was so sweet.

Told through other characters' eyes Byron was a very different person. Always cold, with those calculating, dead eyes and blank expressions. But when told from his pov, like his exchanges on the dates with Michael, Saeed, and through his relationship with Gloria and eventually Lucifer, I saw a different Byron. He just didn't show it well in a non-serial killer way. Ha, sorry that was silly, but seriously he was a wonderfully complex character and I am glad in the end he gets everything he deserves (in the most fantastically twisted way possible).

After reading the sample I cannot run far enough or fast enough away from this.

Thanks for the nightmares, Bey Deckard. Top marks on that!

See, I avoid Torture Porn movies, and it seems that I'll avoid Torture Porn books as well, for precisely this reason: after my initial "ew! Nightmares!" reaction it boils down to silly and unnecessary.

So I will skip this. But anyone else who wants to read it - have fun and good luck!

Oh, Wow! 5 Devilish Stars!

The beginning of this book was beyond disturbing. So were other several parts of it. And by disturbing, I mean the extreme edge of limits disturbing. Hardcore torture, rape, and pain are used to feed and bring sexual satisfaction. And let's not forget about the forced incest, both with attached and detached body parts.

Despite all this, I gave this book 5 stars. Why? Well, underneath the psychopathic sexual proclivities of both MCs lay the idea of goodness. The idea of goodness in Hell, and that pain served a higher purpose.

So, despite all the triggers and extremely violent depictions of sexual lust and torture, this book was about becoming our true selves and putting that nature to its best uses.

This isn't a love story. Not in the least. But Bey Deckard does provide us with the most logical of endings given the realities of the world he depicted. Well written and ridiculously imaginative, this is an amazing book if you can stomach the bad, and know that you'll get your reward in the end.

I have no idea how to rate this, so I won’t. It's one of the most disturbing books I’ve read in a while, though, and I don’t say that lightly. I thought I knew what to expect after reading the sample, but nope. This was just another level of fucked up. The author’s twisted mind should be commended, I think…

Also, whoever shelved this book as ‘romance’ and ‘bdsm’ should get their head checked out! This is horror, pure and simple — the tags in the blurb say it all, really.

This is horrific BUT compelling none the less...you know in that way that you can't take your eyes off something awful as it's happening? You kind of want to look away but you can't?

Yeah, well in the same way, I said to myself that this was completely NOT my kind of thing and was going to mark it as "not-for-me", but then I was curious enough to read the sample – something happens in it that made me want to find out how this was going to play out...so I bought the ebook and read it in one sitting.

I have to admit, my initial thought when reading the blurb and reviews was “errr, NO THANKS!”, especially seeing some of the quotes...just, no...but then I kept seeing interesting reviews and the way the blurb was written was intriguing. I have to admit that growing up I was addicted to the horror genre! My friends and I used to get 18-rated horror films out the video shop when we were about 10yo and scare ourselves stupid and for years I read everything that I could get my hands on that was classed as horror. I think this is why when I switched to reading fantasy/sci-fi in my later teens, I always preferred the darker, grittier reads. Even now when I enjoy a huge range of books, I still find the darker ones the most delicious of all.

So yeah, I can't be blamed for being tempted to read this! I mean look at that cover, read the blurb! And I just kept seeing the book come up in my feed...so I couldn't resist giving it a go!

In the end, this wasn't actually what I had expected at all. I felt the worst part was in the sample – it was undeniably sick. Really, really sick. And as many others have said, if you can get through this, you can read the book. There is a lot more horrid stuff throughout, but this first part seemed the most awful to me. If you give this a go, you have to remember, this is NOT a romance, not at all. You need to class it as fucked up horror (with a bit of a paranormal twist).

I did really like the way that we saw almost little mini-stories within the overall story of various victims - through these we kind of see a little more of the overall story revealed. And I must have missed how it said "paranormal" in the blurb, as this part came as a surprise to me when I came across it in the story...although some of this part seemed a little underdeveloped, I liked how this was almost a second part to the storyline almost.

I won't say much more other than that this was most definitely sick and twisted, and Bey, when everyone asked you for “dark”...wow...you most definitely delivered, even if it wasn't quite what I would have expected. Kudos for writing something so horrific!

I was quite worried how this would all end, as it seemed a difficult one to finish off appropriately, but I think it was relatively fitting.

So yeah, this most definitely won't be for everyone, but I would urge people to give the sample a go before ruling this one out. You can read an excerpt directly from Bey's blog if you want to give it a go: http://www.beydeckard.com/blog/better...

I still couldn't quite decide what rating to give even after finishing...the writing pulled me along and I didn't put it down, but there were a few elements I wasn't as keen on around the paranormal part, so I've settled on 4 stars overall. 4 stars on GR is meant to mean 'I really liked it' - in this instance I'm using it to mean I really liked being horrified by it? being scared by it? yeah something like that... :)

Better the Devil You Know is a strange book to me. On one hand, I really like how it didn't pull its punches. On the other, I'm thinking, "what's the point?"

The story begins with Byron's pastime of sorts: one that makes even the fictional serial killer lover in me cringe. If you can't stomach the first chapter, then I would probably stop there as the story makes a motif of Byron's artful endeavors. But eventually, things take a paranormal twist of sorts, and this is where I kind of felt the story going astray. While I expected things to get fleshed out more, all that happened was me not really "getting it." There's no romance, no suspense, and no real direction. I was let down, because I felt like Better the Devil You Know had all this ENERGY, but it wasn't really channeled into something meaningful. Sure, there's an ending. But I didn't really understand what resolution came out of it, as I didn't even realize there was a conflict/problem to be resolved.

So basically, if you're looking to read about a sociopathic murderer, then this is it. Just don't expect much of a story to go along with it.

You know, I got just a little taste of Deckard's flare with darkness when I read Caged, not too much, and I was hoping--really hoping--he'd take it that little deeper and show us just how dark he can go. Well that's the last frickin' time I stand on the sidelines with a pole, singing "how dark can you go..." because he didn't disappoint. Not one sodding bit.

Not many will make it through the first chapter: it's brutal, and this comes a warning that this is pure horror, written purely for the darkest of dark reader. Don't go there if you don't like it dark and delving into sick minds.

After I got my "I survived Bey's first chapter" T-shirt, in comes the brothers... And oh boy... hard... dark.. emotional...

I'm not saying anything else here, other than I usually slip in a gif of the characters to help with the visuals. This one has to go to Bey, because he's taken a seat next to Joseph Lance Tonlet with this, and as with Joseph, it's so damn great to see such a dark master at play...

4.5 stars
My brain says, "The writing was genius, at least 5 stars."
My sensitive soul says, "Owie, that hurts."
So we had to meet in the middle.

Sexually dark books have always fallen into two categories in my mind. The first has a warped lead who mentally or physically tortures an unwilling subject so deeply that my psyche winces, but despite everything, the recipient and I still develop Stockholm syndrome for him. The second has a completely evil role who mutilates or gruesomely murders the victims of his sexual urges in graphic detail. He pushes me too far, causing a loss of all emotional connection which turns the material into a bad read for me.

Better the Devil You Know made it's own new category. I had that sick feeling of going too far during more than one scene; yet, my attraction to the plot didn't break. Also while throwing out these horrors on the surface, there's a different storyline bubbling underneath. The reader is presented with a mystery and a differing outlook than the usual. There's a lot of shock factor, but there's also intelligence.

Byron is medieval and savage upon several people during his life. The accounts of some of his 'dates' are given. Although the story is told in third person, the accounts are from the point of view of Byron's prey. Each tale gives further clues in the overall scheme of things.

This is one of the darkest books I've ever read. Parts of it were so disturbing that I don't even know how to convey the depravity. It is absolutely not for many, but for a certain audience, it is perfection. Better the Devil You Know is horrific, smart and beyond rare.

'Hello, nasty little fucker' - my first thoughts on this book which never changed as I read, it is one long NLF.

The book blurb has tags, warnings so any reader can know what they're getting. Please do heed them -

1)This is not a romance.
2)Tags: graphic torture, murder, paranormal, forced incest, rape.
A BIG Yes. To all of these tags.

Longer (not super long) but non-spoiler review on the blog -

I don’t like bad things happening to people, not in real life, but in fictional books it’s open slather – but I have to be in the mood. Knowing your own limits and your idea of enjoyable reading is important because this is not a comfortable read. It also doesn’t ease up because bad things do happen to good people throughout. It truly is macabre, although the writing is also interspersed with tongue in cheek humour. I didn’t love the two main players, but I did find them intriguing. The writing also had a hook or two that made me want to keep reading - the psychology, the constant unknown, the politics. Because the author put his foot down and unabashedly went for it with his writing, it has such a verve about it. I love the title, it’s so apt, the world building was pretty damn good as well. The book absolutely achieved its primary aim. And, well, I’ll be honest, I have this total soft spot for Gloria. Hellishly interesting and impure reading.

First of all, proceed with caution. This is not for everyone.

Before I dive into this, I'd make sure I read the sample first. And thank goodness, I could handle it.

I'm a big fan of horror. So this kind of book was practically made for me. It was really clever. Good psycho book. Seriously.

What I disliked :
It's just too bad no romance involved. And of course I know this is not romance. The author said it himself. But still, I'm all about romance too. I need it. Just like I need my gory stuff.

Now I need something lighter to keep it balance..

Fans of Dennis Cooper & Poppy Z. Brite, man do I have something for you!

This is an orgy of sex, blood, beautiful writing and vicious sadism. It’s also unapologetically gay (though don’t going in expecting to swoon—unless you’re me, but that’s not something anyone should ever aspire to be). It’s literally a perfect red stew of everything I crave. Trigger warnings galore.

The best way I can describe this is: it’s like a gay The House That Jack Built. The best thing I never knew I needed. I’d go into this book knowing as little as possible if I were you. It’s a blood-soaked, ultra-violent and traumatizing spectacle that also happens to be a sophisticated slice of serial killer satisfaction.

To most readers, I’d say: beware. But to any whose mind twists the same way as me, do read this immediately … and savor page after impure page of thought-provoking arguments wrapped in unabashed indecency.

A review by The Blogger Girls.

There are quite a few reasons Mr. Deckard is on my auto read list, not the least of which is his ability to suck me into any type of story, often those genres I would normally steer clear of, such as sci-fi, or, in this case, gorey, gruesome serial killer craziness. I admit that I didn’t read the blurb much past the warnings, which should most definitely be heeded. So, when I began this story, I didn’t realize it was a paranormal-ish tale. That being said, this starts out with a big bang and literally dives right into the middle of Byron’s gorey life.

The first chapter, alone, was one of the most disturbingly gruesome scenes I’ve read, and I cringed the whole way through it. I had the same feelings I had when I watched my first SAW movie. Byron is a bit of a mysterious fellow, and it takes a few chapters to really get a sense of what is going on. Although, just when you think you understand things, it twists in another direction. Byron is a serial killer who is extremely creative in carrying out his killings. He has the help of his PA, Gloria, who turns out to be as, if not more, creepier than Byron. Everything eventually catches up to Byron when he meets his end and Lucifer takes him to Hell to pay for his sins.

Lucifer is quite the interesting character. He has been lording over peoples’ souls for a long time, and it seems he is getting a bit tired. There is a connection with Byron, and even Gloria plays a role. Needless to say, there is more than one twist in this story that kept me on my toes until the end.

This story is put together as craftily as one of Byron’s killings. I’m not sure how to describe the writing other than to say that it just stands out in its masterfulness. If the horror/gorey aspect of this story isn’t for you, please stay away. However, if you can handle or even enjoy the cringing and slight nausea of a creepy thriller, I highly recommend it and hope the writing will shine through for you as much as it did for me.

Well....where to start with this book....1st..This is my first book by Bey Deckard and 2nd..Wow....Heed the warnings going in...Yes there's rape....torture...gore....forced incest and you will not feel sorry for Dr Byron Danielson...well maybe a little bit.....He is pure evil....no book i have ever read has an MC as evil as Byron.....But....this book is totally and utterly an amazing read...It is written so well that you have to keep reading and you won't want to put it down..not even to sleep...The one question you'll want answering is Who the hell is Michael and what happened to him which you won't find out till the end.....The ending was done brilliantly and even though i could see where it was going half way through the ending was perfect....I would love to get into the mind of this author and just see what other disturbed ideas he has.....I have found another author who i wished i had read earlier.....Everything is written so you can't help but follow it through in your mind and feel as twisted as the MC himself...He gets what he deserves and more but the end will leave you wondering because it leaves it wide open for a second book..maybe another MC...who knows...I for one would love another and will definitely be reading this again x

I don't know what to say... THIS IS JUST WICKED! The book was very gruesome and disturbing and despite all of the horrid scenes, I couldn't put the story down, I just had to keep reading.

The story starts with a very gory and brutal scene that will definitely make you squirm. And if you thought you know what to expect, you are wrong because this book was full of interesting twist. It was so graphic and gruesomely detailed, I almost felt the pain!!! (Especially the nipple scene! Damn that must be painful)

It's amazing how the author manage created this masterpiece with only 40k words. And even though the book was unpleasant and gut-churning, I wouldn't mind reading if the author release extended version! This was my first book by the and definitely won't be my last.

If you're into dark and twisted books (and by that I mean stiching mouth to form a perfect 'O' or cutting a hole in the chest to create another fuckholes, or cutting nipples and dick before fucking, or making sure your victim is not dead so you can skin them ALIVE) then try this book. If not DON'T read this book!
