Jesus Came to Save Sinners: An Earnest Conversation with Those Who Long for Salvation and Eternal Life

Rate this book
This is a heart-level conversation with you, the reader. Every excuse, reason, and roadblock for not coming to Christ is examined and duly dealt with. If you think you may be too bad, or if perhaps you really are bad and you sin either openly or behind closed doors, you will discover that life in Christ is for you too. You can reject the message of salvation by faith, or you can choose to live a life of sin after professing faith in Christ, but you cannot change the truth as it is, either for yourself or for others. As such, it behooves you and your family to embrace truth, claim it for your own, and be genuinely set free for now and eternity. Come, and embrace this free gift of God, and live a victorious life for Him.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was England's best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian, John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues, Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861, the congregation moved permanently to the newly constructed Metropolitan Tabernacle.

Wow. This book was so much better than I would have expected. I always thought Spurgeon's books would be "stuffy" or something, but it really wasn't. I found it easy to read and very good.

This is without a doubt one of the best books giving apologetic arguments for conversion to the Christian faith that I have ever read. I don't know how anyone cannot be moved after reading Spurgeon's heartfelt plea on behalf of the lost.

An excellent treatise covering justification, deliverance from sinning, grace through faith, the sinner's inability to save himself, repentance, and perseverance among other topics.

Reading Spurgeon is very encouraging. He speaks to the heart in clear and precise language. If you didn't know, you wouldn't suspect that it was written around 150 years ago.

I highly recommend this and any of Spurgeon's writings to any Christian or seeker.

What need I say of the Prince of Preachers regarding his book urging sinners to turn to Christ? Read it. Buy it and give it to others as a gift. "Only live your lives in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ" (Phil 1:27.

The absolute plea for people to accept Jesus as our savior

The book is like Reverend Spurgeon entering a verbal cage match with the devil to fight for our salvation. Everyone should not only read it but thank the Lord for the free book because salvation is a free gift of Jesus.

Absolutely phenomenal. Easy to read (I thought it was going to be difficult to read and wooden, but it was anything but). Amazing material. I mean really. This is one of the few books every person should read. If I were to pick a book to give someone besides the Bible, this would be it.

This book was such an encouragement. Spurgeon is indeed the Prince of Preachers.
Praise God for His amazing love in Jesus that saves us now and forever by the blood of His son! I cling with feeble fingers to His cross, but He holds on to me with immovable love. To deny my salvation would mean His son’s blood was shed in vain. He is just. If my debt was paid by Jesus it would be unjust to demand I pay it as well on the last day. What amazing thoughts that comfort and encourage my soul! I highly recommend this book for any believer who is discouraged, doubting, tired, or even who is growing and vibrant in their faith. I recommend to any who have thought about becoming a Christian, but haven’t, or for those who tried to be a Christian and failed. This book is for all just as Christ is for all.

Spurgeon writes this book as though he is speaking directly to the reader. He speaks plainly and gives great analogies through out in order to make the gospel message clear and understandable to even a child. It is a short book with the main focus on looking to Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. He uses the verse from Isaiah 45:22 "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else."
God used a pastor of a small Methodist church , (I think it was Methodist) and he was preaching from Isaiah 45:22 . When Spurgeon came in from the cold to get warm he heard God's call to look to him and be saved, and so he did, and he became one of the greatest, and youngest of preachers, and was called "the Prince of preachers" .

Great book, I'd recommend to anyone who's wanting to know more about faith in Jesus. Some spots I had to listen to again or re-read, because the old English quotes can be a little confusing if you're not paying 100% attention.
