A cold-hearted Duke meets his match in an American lady searching for love across the pond.
Hannah Turner is an American lady, sent back to London by her father, to find a decent husband. Her father's distant cousin was the Marquees of Hunting, so when Hannah searches for a place within the ton, she lives with Lord Archibald Turner, her second cousin and his wife, the new Countess of Tother.
At Charlotte and Archie's summer house, she meets Lord John Dunford, a famous rakehell and rather handsome gentleman. He is lust and temptation incarnate. Hannah had always promised herself she would wait until marriage, but would learning the arts of the bedroom be such a bad thing?
Lord John swore off marriage as a child. His father's terrible union, and the devastation his mother expressed knowing his father was in love with his mistress, put him off love and commitment. But when he meets Hannah Turner, his once cold heart trembled at the sight. Even though he couldn't offer her forever, a few nights in his bed could be the solution to the attraction burning between them.
Fiona Miers has a super busy life, like most modern women. But she always finds time for reading and writing romance.
Her love affair with the romance genre started when she was only 11 years old, when her mother and Nana handed her her first Mills and Boon.
Since that day, she's built her own business, become a mother to two beautiful little girls, and fallen in love with the most spectacular man on the planet.
Fiona writes historical romance. She also writes paranormal romance and more erotic stories under the pen names, Amelia Shaw and Tamsin Baker.
Does the author not read a single history book about the period she is writing in. Felt like a modern romance with no acknowledgement for history, culture and norms of the times
This is an entertaining romance between the rake, John and the American, Hannah. John is a handsome man, full of charm and had a quick wit. His view on marriage was soured in his childhood when his own father and mother set the worst example for him. Then he relived the tragedy when his older brother had married and followed in his father's footsteps. He swore that he would never live like that. So he decided the best course of action was never to marry and never get attached to anyone. So he created the six month rule. Hannah came from a happy and healthy home. She was financially independent, but that was neither here nor there as far as she was concerned. She was sent to England to find a husband and was staying with her cousin, Archibald Turner. Archie to his friends, was one of John's best friends and John's sister was married to him. John was immediately attracted to Hannah. Hannah felt the same towards him. He thought is was a passing feeling. But it was not. The banter between them was delightful. John went through a lot of different emotions while getting to know Hannah. Hannah felt frustration sometimes with John because he always was able to keep up with her. I did like book two and three in this series much better than this book. However, it does have its merits. I really liked how John and Hannah interacted to each other. How John was willing to change his rakish ways for her. How he set about proving his love and determination of never giving up on pursuing her. I did enjoy reading it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wildly historically inaccurate, oddly offhand mentions of Hannah's plantation, no plot, and a by the numbers romance. Still, short enough that I finished it.
While this book was enjoyable, it was not true to the Regency period. The dialogue was modern and some of the scenarios did fit into this time. Not a bad book, just not historically accurate.
Well, I hope you like reading about people having sex because that's all you get in this book! Regency my Aunt Doris ... there is nothing Regency about it. This could be a modern novel but the author obviously thinks throw in the mention of balls, carriages, Whites and mistresses and you have the makings of an historical novel. What a waste of time ... even the fact it was free doesn't lessen the pain!
This story has a lot to be desired, especially our main hero. The man is an abomination to men everywhere. His behavior is irreproachable, and I don't know how a decent woman would stand him. This brings us to Hannah, our shocking American. As a plantation owner's daughter she would have had the grace of any southern belle. She had none. A Southern lady can plant, ride and shoot as well as any man, but in the tea room or ballroom; she is the epitome of civility and charm. Her behavior was the epitamy of Annie Oakley's style of behavior; brash and inappropriate. In fact, the whole story is inappropriate. In fact, Archie should have wrung John's neck and challenged him to a duel. No, he just accepts that John ruined Hannah. The plot is horrendous and the story is without real planning. Hannah just accepts John second proposal. Why? Because he proposed in front of the Ton. The climax and ending are disappointing. Wish I didn't waste my time, but I was hoping for something better to come up.
Another couple that is fighting against what is inevitable, that is, you were meant for each other and now let's see if you can figure it out. John and Hannah are attracted to each other, but both have their own reasons for avoiding the attraction. The sex is steamy and the two admit to themselves that this "might be the one." But how to go about convincing the other that they both have to get on the same page. John figures it out first, but Hannah is fighting it all the way. The characters from previous books of this series make their appearance throughout the book and if you haven't read any of "The Spares" series, you want might want to find the other books and read them, especially the one about Rupert and Lizzie. This was an easy read and you do like the characters, especially John and his "spare heirs" friends.
This is a delightful story of two people stubbornly NOT looking for love with each other. John has poor role-models in his parents marriage, so he has decided marriage is not for him. Hannah, on the other hand, is looking for a true and faithful husband. Is there hope for them together? Hannah is a spirited, independent American lady who knows what she wants in a man. Will John decide he can't do without her and that she is worth changing for? I have greatly enjoyed this series, and this is a fitting finale.

... doesn't make it a lady. The only thing remotely accurate for the historical period is the reliance on horses. Speech in candor, topic, and manner is too modern and open. Women in Regency times did not wear bloomers. Other sartorial details are also incorrect for the period. Titles and conventions of address are incorrect. The only reason this book has two stars is because the editing is mostly error-free.
If you like historical accuracy in manners, dress, speech, and behavior, then avoid this book. If gross anachronisms don't bother you, have fun.
Historical English romance with an American lady as the 'fish out of water' plot finding love with a confirmed bachelor who will one day become a Duke although he is a second son at the moment. Miss Hannah Turner is American but she has lots of titled powerful friends so she enters high society fairly easily and meets Lord John Dunford at her cousin's house and the romance picks up speed quick. Then Hannah takes her time when she arrives in London while Lord John is trying to get serious about courtship, she seems to be husband shopping for everyone except him. Fluff story and quick read. HEA guaranteed. 170 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
I was blessed with a free copy of this book, and have chosen of my own volition to share this review with you!
This book does not disappoint. The concluding story in the Heir and a Spare Series, with Hannah and John's story, nicely completes the quartet of a series. The books can each be read as part of the series or as an individual story.
Hannah visits from American with a quest to find a husband worthy of her attention. John the rakish duke is faced with what his choices in life may cost him. What does each decide to fight for, or flee from?
This is the fourth book in the series and I would recommend this set of books each one is better than the one before. Lord John Dunford, a handsome rakehell and the spare son who has watched what has happened to his Mother at his Father's hands and has sworn never to marry. American heiress Hannah Turner has come to stay with her second cousin, Lord Archibald Turner and his wife Lady Charlotte. When these two get together this became one steamy read. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and I also bought it.
Very well written story. Nice storyline and plot. A sweet book that has great romance. Typical regency story. True to its timeperiod. A rake and an american lady. He wants her and their attraction is instant. But can she believe him and that he has feelings for her. He is known as a rake and not marriage material. Can she have a family with him? A story about finding love in spite of what rumours. Lots of chemistry. Attraction and love.
There is drama, family issues, passion, emotions and some twists and turns. I like the main characters and how they develop and are described.
Of all four books that I have read. I think Hannah's Duke was the best. If she could tell I'm writing review on it with the other ones I just gave you the five stars they were all good books excellent reads. Please continue to write such wonderful stories. Especially love, stories that have people voicing their insecurities and fears about love and being loved. I hope to enjoy reading more of your books sincerely.
Hannah is a 25 years old American that has arrived in London to join the marriage mart and find a husband. And what she finds is....John. He is everything she doesn't want in a husband: he is a drinker, a rake that has sleep with half of the ton ladies. And he doesn't want to marry. Despite all of this they bond with a passion without measure. Great read. Highly recommended
A truly engaging between a second son who will be a Duke one day and an American heiress cousin to a Duke. John has seen the marriage of his parents and brother that are disastrous with no love but mistress so never plans to marry only have flings. The American lady wants love with a titled man not someone that want her inheritance. Takes awhile but all ends well!
I liked this book the characters are good and the story is so well written I was sad to see it end. Hannah is looking for a husband and she finds an Earl. This book is compelling. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Hannah is sent to England to find a husband. While there she is introduced to Lord John who is charming but a take that never wants to marry. Though he feels himself falling for Hannah he rather sleep with her than get married. This is a great rainy day book. The characters were charming and funny.

A freebie download that exceeded my expectations! I was quickly drawn into this novel and the interactions between Hannah and John. A speedy and satisfying read. Unfortunately, I couldn't give it 5 stars due to it's fast resolution (I wanted it to slow down so I could experience more!), and the number of typos throughout. I will probably go back and read the other novels in the series.
I don't usually leave a review unless I can give four or five stars. But this book is so transparently all about the sex and because I've had the luck to have recently read some truly excellent Regency romances, I actually feel insulted. I like a good sex scene, but there's got to be more to a plot. This story is just too predictable to finish (I made it halfway through).
Fantastic set. I loved this box set. Each story hooks you right from the beginning. I could not put it down. This is my first read by Fiona Miers but she has a new fan girl. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.
Hannah is an American sent to England to find a husband. John is determined not to marry. His parents marriage was a disaster. However the woman is so different than anyone he's ever met that he can't keep his hands off her. It is a good book it is a little graphic in places but is enjoyable.
Hannah an outspoken American comes to England as an heiress to find a husband. John last member of the spare club is yet to wed and refuses to do so. Upon meeting his brother in law cousin he might be found his match. Good book
The title describes this story very well. I enjoyed reading it. You can still enjoy it even if you haven't read the other stories. I haven't read them yet. It was very romantic.
I love this spares series, this story did not disappoint! I loved the strong American woman, wonderful twist since the English had such a disdain for all things American.
Delightful tale of two dynamic characters destined to be together. Descriptive language and dialog move this character driven plotline along. Ms. Miers has the ability to transport the reader back and time and seem to be a witness in this tale.
This was my least favourite in the series. John and Hannah are not my favourite in fact they were kind of boring to me. Overall the series is not bad and I enjoyed it but I think it could have been better with more historical accuracy.
