An honest and powerful testimony of the changes God has made in Shane's life. Bought it after hearing him share his testimony at our church. He particularly needed deliverance from demonic encounters he was having after dabbling into the occult.

It was interesting to read about how his life was before and during the boyzone days. I never knew a lots of the stuff he did before boyzone or how the band got together. Love the band and Shane.

I honestly set myself up to be disappointed by this book, and was very pleasantly surprised. I have been a closet Boyzone fan since the beginning, with a family connection to their tour manager, and a slight crush on Shane! To this day I follow all of them in their individual careers, have seen them live several times since they re formed and shared in their grief when Stephen passed away. I have read both of Ronan's autobiographical accounts and will admit to finding them a little uninspiring, although I love his music. Having read one of the best books I had read for a while just before I started this, I fully expected to struggle to read it. However, I found it to be a completely open, honest and remarkably frank account of a less-than-perfect life.

By his own admission, Shane was always a 'chancer'. His education marred by Dyslexia, he became accustomed to 'winging' it, scraping through by the skin of his teeth. Kicked out of school at 14, and with few prospects, Shane worked happily in his father's automotive business until one of his friends asked him to form a boy band. Shane agreed, but wasn't convinced of his musical talent. Thus began the wildest ride of his life, a ride which culminated in celebrity status, global fame and wealth beyond his wildest dreams, but which left a once happy-go-lucky chancer in the deepest, darkest depths of depression, loneliness and with an insatiable anger. Shane talks openly and fluidly of his personal journey back from the brink of disaster and how one chance friendship changed it all.

Despite the obviously difficult subject matter, Shane tells his story in such a way that it does not bog the reader down, achieving just the right balance of positive and negative in each section of his life. I was reduced to tears at one particular point as the wording was so beautifully descriptive I could imagine myself to be there, feeling as he felt (happy at the time). I started this book with a completely different idea of Shane than when I finished it. An enjoyably readable and inspirational account of the slippery road of celebrity, and the definition behind never judging a book by its cover.

A must-read for anyone, Boyzone fan or not.

I initially bought this book because it was about Shane Lynch, a member of Boyzone. I loved the parts about Boyzone, some, not so much.
