This was an okay volume. I preferred the first volume because the pacing was better, BUT I am excited to see where the rest of the series is going to go and the cooking scenes are *chefs kiss.*
This was alright but the first volume was better???
Somehow the story in the first volume seemed more thought out and much more fun than this story. This picks up the story but I’m not really digging it.
It’s not really funny when it tries to be. The jokes were stretched thin in the first volume and so these weren’t funny.
It was semi-interesting, so I was able to finish it. I’m just not sure I’ll continue the series. The story is strong but I’m not sure it’s strong enough for more than five volumes.
Okay, so TECHNICALLY... I read the first chapter or two or three...back around the same time I read the first volume initially. But I've reread it all now in its entirety so it's whatever. Anyway, SO THIS IS WHERE IT'S REVEALED! Hayato was only USING Hanayu ALL ALONG! OOOOO! Now that he has NO USE FOR HER, she's been discarded like a dirty rag!! Nah, he's not actually that evil. He did the thing a boy tried doing to me before and attempted to make her hate him by acting and seeming HORRIBLE, because he knew being hated was the easiest thing (and maybe he felt he deserved it a little? who knows, main thing is though he was giving her an easy way out). Hayato was being a jerk for a while and it was getting annoying (maybe that's why I stopped reading before?), but his friend Matsuyama saw through it, which helped Hanayu see through the act too. Things didn't get much better until she ran off after him and did some DRAMATIC ASS STOOF to PROVE he cares for her and that he's a good person. She knew he'd save her. And she, pins him down with her palm to his mouth LOL so that he'll be quiet and let her talk. They have a heartfelt moment and make up and the slate is clean. They might be back to square one now, but they've gained something important. Friendship, which goes unnoticed at first but it's still there nonetheless. They don't intend to stay friends or anything, but it just...happens. They've become close, they stay on a first name basis despite breaking up (so quickly, though it was a forced relationship to start with, with hidden agendas on either side). They may be no closer to achieving either one's dreams, but... I believe both of them have fallen in love with the other, at least a bit. It's going to hit like a truck soon, for one or both of them. Love may be a beautiful thing, but it hurts so bad. People always tell you how amazing love can be, but they never tell you how excruciating it is, especially the fall. It is truly so heartwarming and encouraging to see how they encourage and inspire each other. It inspires me too, a bit. Hayato gets so flustered over her sometimes, and he tries so hard to cheer her up and encourage her to do her best and follow what she feels. I know he's extremely kind hearted, but it does more for her than what kindness alone can call for. I love their relationship, and I hope they can start dating again. Has nobody thought it possible that they can still marry and take over BOTH businesses? Sure, they may not be together every day. But won't it be a little like a married couple, both with day jobs, then coming home at night to be together? True, in Japan, things don't traditionally quite work that way, but... This is the modern era. They CAN make it work. Things don't have to be so cut and dry. But I suppose that may be too easy, huh? P.S. Matsuzaka-sensei, I forgot about them (meant to mention them in volume 1 too, whoops). We'll never learn if they're male or female, huh? I chose to remember them as female though. I like them. I also like Hanayu's mom and dad, and wow! I didn't know she had a little brother, but he's a cutie too. And uh... Ichii, I really only remember her concept, I think. And I don't even remember Matsuyama, but I like him too.

I’m still not sure how to feel about the series. Both protagonists have similar goals and crazy personalities. Their constantly changing moods/comic relief can be jarring at times. And while I understand their motivations, I feel like this wouldn’t be as messy if they straight up told their families what they want to do. And if the parents opposed, maybe the one exception could be to marry someone in the respected profession, and maybe the protagonists don’t like each other. My point is, the plot is still messy and I think the series tries too hard to be quirky/funny which muddies the story’s main objective.
I will read the next one to see if it improves, but this one is much better than the first volume.
In this volume Hanayu confesses to using Hayato to achieve her dreams of being a sushi chef, only to learn Hayato is doing the exact same thing to become a pastry chef! With these confessions, they break up and a new tension forms between them. But Hanayu is determined to clear the air.
I actually liked this one a bit more than to first volume. Maybe it's because everything is more established so you can focus more on the story? I also appreciated how fast their relationship, built on false pretenses crumbled and how they managed to emerge at the end of the drama as friends of sorts. Or at least, allies moving into friendship. It's nice to see them encourage each other to pursue their dreams.
This was a very interesting book of romance between two people wanting to become famous chefs. In which I very much liked how the author put it to almost both perspectives of Hanayu and Hiyato. In Mixed Vegetables I thought it was kind of funny how they both got into trouble occasionally by the teacher. I really liked how Hiyato was so determined to recreate the dish that Hanayu tried as a child, I really enjoyed the reaction on his face when he saw his all time hero Hanyu's father, Mr.ashitaba. Also when he lost to her brother at a baseball match, all in all it was a great book.
This volume continued where the first one left off which was great. • This particular manga has a ton of recipes omelets cakes etc. including some from the mangaka/author so I was truly hungry after I read this (trust me if you're a foodie you need this series). • The relationship aspect though is a lot of back and forth will they wont they dynamic so that may be annoying to some people but to me I find them really fun. • It was also nice getting to know the leading lady's family a bit more and im excited to learn more about them and the leading guy's family. Overall, this volume was fun and exciting. I cannot wait to read more from this series. 4 out of 5 stars.
I actually liked that little twist in the beginning of this volume. I thought the relationship was happening too fast. I’d rather they be friends and build up towards a relationship… Although, Hayato didn’t need to be a total ass about it lol.
Anyway, it all works out after some communication (yes yes!) and Hanayu and Hayato become friends and try to help each other achieve their dreams..
The ending of this volume is perfect! Who would’ve thought it would be Hayato’s dad that sparked Hanayu’s interest in sushi years ago?!
This volume has an interesting development. It has more involvement in friendship and also working together towards their dreams. It was a great ending for this volume because you don't know what happens until you read the next volume and trust me, you really have to read it.
2.5 stars. the first chapter was promising. there was some angst and I thought things were finally gonna get ~interesting but unfortunately things got cleared up pretty quickly and it went downhill from there for me.
So, had another volume of this and there were some ideas about food to be had. I really am going to get to my blog again some day. I have a whole bunch of half eaten ideas. Not sure how I feel about being sucked into a romance manga but the food parts are kinda cool.
So there is that. I actually care on whether they will meet their goals and how will they achieve them. From a kids' perspective, it is all about becoming your own person and not worrying about following in your parents' dreams and to find your own. Standard tropes, so far.
This is a cute series that I am enjoying. In this volume both Hanaya and Hayato go on a date and realize that both of them are thinking the same thing that they want to marry the other just to be in the family for the things that they want to be a Sushi chef or Pastry Chef. Needless to say the date does not go well.
Will these two continue to be friends, and try to follow their dreams. Or will they not get along and not follow their dreams of becoming a Sushi Chef or a Pastry Chef.
Volume 2 has slightly redeemed this story, or at least raised it from 2 stars to 3! If the first chapter of this volume was tacked on to the end of volume 1, it would have made a big difference (if you ask me). The true nature of these characters is much more readable and enjoyable than the fake faces they had in the beginning of the story. Of course, they're still a little messed up - and learning more about each other, which will undoubtably "make" their relationship.
Hanayu and Hayato discover they've been using each other and both feel horrible about it. But once the air is cleared, they're back to cheering each other on. I like these two. They're ridiculous and cute!
I really like this series, about a girl who really wants to be a sushi chef. She has a classmate whose father who owns a sushi restaurant, so she considers dating him to get ties to the shop. The twist: he wants to be a pastry chef, and her father owns a bakery!
Still just as good as I remembered the first one being! I can't wait to see if the library has more, and to add this to my wishlist for ownership. *sigh* I love books and when I find ones that I want to enjoy again and again.
This volume was a bit better than the first one but I still didn't connect to it that much. Some things were still confusing and the characters didn't really stand out. :/ I'll get the next one but so far this hasn't been one I've liked a lot.
Once again, my mouth is watering as I read this manga. The beginning chapters of the manga had a lot of tension but eventually it leveled off and returned to its light hearted tone. I can't wait to start Vol. 3!
