Mizumo had a rough childhood -- he grew up with no parents and came from a broken home. When his long-time childhood friend, Minori, finds out that he's been having sex for money with teachers at school, he volunteers himself to become Mizumo's "customer." At first, they told themselves that this is nothing more than a casual rendezvous for money -- but it's turning out to be little more than that!
A sequel or side story to Happiness Recommended; this tells the story of Minori and Mizumo. Temperature Rising finally delves further into the relationship that Happiness Recommended hinted at for this couple. Although littered with some comedy these manga has a more serious note as it reveals the hardships the Hiraga children suffered growing up. Their parent's abandonment and lack of responsiblity when it came to their children's well being and what lengths Mizumo had to go through in order to support his brothers was sad and difficult for me to read.
Minori in his attempts to 'help' Mizumo after he discovers what his friend is doing lightens this story's mood as you see him realize the motives and feelings behind his actions. It was nice to see Minori and Mizumo-as well as their respective meddling brothers-try to understand their 'relationship' and each other.
Temperature Rising is a great follow up to Happiness Recommended; and that Mizumo found his happy ending left me warm and content.
The story is about Yukiharu, who finds out, after his grandfather dies, that he has six younger brothers he never knew about, and (as it turns out) they live in squalor because their parents drift around and rarely send them any money. The first volume is about Yukiharu coming to meet the family and discovering Makoto, his childhood friend, who of course is in love with Yukiharu. The second volume is about Mizumo, the second-oldest son, and Minori, Makoto's twin brother, who have a sex-for-money relationship. My problem is this: I like the story and characters better in the first volume, but the main characters never get together. The story in the second volume isn't as romantic (Minori was paying for sex with Mizumo while he had a girlfriend? Bleh.) and the characters are stupid and take forever to realize how they feel about each other, but it has a happy ending and they do actually end up as a couple. If there was another volume about Yukiharu and Makoto...wait, I was just looking at Amazon, and there is at least one more volume. (Series books that aren't numbered are so annoying...how are we supposed to tell what order we should buy them?) So I'll hold off final judgment on the series as a whole.
The plotline for this manga isn't really any different from the typical 'client and his prostitute fall in love' despite the fact that both of them are in high school still. The flashbacks to their childhood and how things developed to where they currently are are heartbreaking material and the artwork does a good job of getting the emotion across to the reader. If you're looking for a totally original twist to this type of plotline you won't find it with this title but if you like this genre and want to read a good title with this theme then Temp. Rising is a good one to spend time on.
