“Would you like an adventure now, or should we have our tea first?” -Alice in Wonderland
Cynthia Luhrs spends her time out on the deck, looking out over the mountains, imagining what if. She writes women’s fiction, time travel romance, contemporary romance, family sagas, paranormal romance, and thrillers. Readers say her books (well not the thrillers, those are gritty) are light-hearted reads to escape reality. She lives in the mountains of North Carolina, has always been a reader, and is overly fond of sparkly flip flops and pretty pens. Though now that she lives in the mountains she’s going to have to find fabulous boots, mittens, and hats!
I can never say enough good things about this series that Cynthia has created. I was never a fan of time travel books til I started these. Now I could read them every day all day. I'm hoping Cynthia can keep up with my demand! If you haven't read any of these yet I highly encourage them!
Penelope or Pittypat as she is known to all lives a colorful life and has just as colorful friends much to the chagrin of her too serious sister. Penelope's solstice party has her discover Thomas washed up on the beach. Badly injured she certainly can't leave him out in the nasty storm that delivered him to her doorstep.
This novella is the prequel to the Thornton Brothers books but can be read at anytime. It quite nicely answers questions that come to light in the other books and tells a tale of Penelope's true love, her soulmate.
In reading about the Merriweather sisters, I have always wanted to know more about Aunt Pitty Pat! This brief insight into a part of her life was well worth the read! Nine lives works for cats, why not for Penelope (Aunt Pitty Pat)? It was also nice to learn about the necklace. A lesson to be learned from the story is to not take tomorrow for granted!
Someone recommended this series to me since I love time travel romances so I decided to give this ebook novella a try before diving into the whole series. I was a little disappointed, though. The writing was not very engaging. It felt rushed and I never really understood the charicter's motivations. It felt like a bad fan fiction for Outlander, honestly.
I know it's unfair to judge the whole series on this one novella, so I think I will still give it a try at some point.
This is the story of the aunts that were left behind by the Merriweather Sisters and therefore, set on the sea side. It is a fun read, but somehow predictable, as it fills in the gaps in the story of the main series.
This is a good time-travel romance, featuring the Merriweather sisters' Aunt Pittypat, and the time-traveling knight (from the 1300's) she falls for. It is actually a prequel to the entire series, but you don't have to read it first. For those who like clean romances, with no sex scenes, this series is perfect for you. It has kisses, but no sex scenes at all.
I have liked all the books so far in this series, and I liked this one, too. I adored Aunt Pittypat and Thomas was perfect for her. She was such a free spirit, and he loved her just the way she was. Thomas did adapt to modern times a little more quickly than was believable, but that was OK. I won't give spoilers, but I did wish the ending had not been so sad.
I didn't think it was very believable that Thomas was accepted into the modern world so quickly. Everyone would have thought his behavior was very strange, and some people would have even thought he was mentally ill.
I also thought it was unbelievable that Aunt Pittypat and all of her nieces would meet their loves through time-travel -- I get that time-travel is a fantasy anyway, but for all of them to just happen to meet men from the 1300's? I didn't buy it.
This book gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I don't know how Cynthia Luhrs does it. I have been reading the Meriweather Sisters Time Travel books for 4 years, and every time I think, how can Ms. Luhrs make this one just as much fun as the others....she does! I am a fan of all time travel romance, and sometimes think in another life maybe I was a traveler, or could be. I know fanciful beliefs, but hey in a world where everything is upside down, what better way to get through then to dream! This is a fun read and reminds us of how everyone can find true love. The heroine is strong female and proves that in the end love will conquers all. Just puchaced the next set and ready to sit down with a cup of tea and get to reading!
During the madatory stay-at-home orders, Ms. Luhrs has been a big part of getting me through many days! Stay safe, and keep on reading!
I have read some of the author’s previous books and enjoyed them. I love time travel, but I must say this is a sad book. So, I am giving 4 stars to this book. I had a problem about Thomas being able to read current American English and speak it as well as he did. If you can get past this, you will find it well written and very entertaining. Penelope (Pittypat) is my strong woman. She doesn’t let Mildred spoil her fun.
I've been waiting for this story since this series began. I wasn't disappointed in the least. I won't spoil this wonderful story because it's that good. The entire series is a wonderful mix of modern and medieval times. If you're a fan of time travel romances this book and series is for you. Happy Reading!
Penelope 'Pitypat' Merriweather has a free 'life celebrating' spirit that will be challenged to the extreme by a battered hunk of a man who is washed up on her picture perfect beach following a rough summer storm! Will the 9th time be her good luck charm or curse?
I enjoyed this book. I habe read all her medieval time travels with the women going back into time. This book was great showing how a knight traveled forward in time. I am looking forward to her nrxt book where the Scottish knight also travels through time.
Delightful. I loved Thomas and his curiosity. The only thing that made no sense was his immediate ability to speak, read and adjust. It seemed a bit implausible. Nevertheless, the story was great.
Narrator: Kristina Blackstone does a good job Liked this one, too. A bit sad and more dramatic but they do find themselves in the after life and they are the ones looking out for the girls.
I just discovered Cynthia Luhrs and I am hooked . This to me should be the first book you read them you will understand why the necklace was so important
Since I don't do spoilers, I will say this. I've been reading this series in order for the past week. The others were good although longer. But for me, this was the best so far.
