Talon Pack #7

Eternal Mourning

Rate this book
In the seventh book of the Talon Pack series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan, a Healer is forced to come to grips with the idea that he can’t save everyone…including the woman he loves.

Walker Brentwood vowed to the moon goddess that he’d protect his Pack and Heal with every last ounce of his power. He’s watched his siblings and cousin battle the worst circumstances to find love and is now afraid that the one woman who could be his might not have much time left. The rules of mating have changed, and Walker will do what he has to in order to protect the bonds that have eluded him for so long.

Aimee Reagan knows there’s something wrong with her. She’s known since the first time she found out shifters were real and magic existed. When the Talon Pack’s enemy sets his sights on her, her battle to survive becomes even harder.

Walker and Aimee must turn to each other when the powers around them change and the paths that had been laid before them are no longer clear. But when their passion threatens a curse far older than anyone dreamed, they’ll only have one chance to save something worth more than a mating bond. Their future.

So many parts of this book broke my heart. If you pay close attention to the nuance of the writing style in this book, you will take notice of Carrie Ann Ryan's heartbreak. I felt it, and not just because she mentions it in her foreword. It was in her characters. In their individual situations. In their confusion about life and finding their perfect mate. In their sadness of watching their friends struggle (even their own struggles) and not be able to do anything to take away the pain and sadness that surrounds them.

I've had the chance to read previous books in this series, so being able to reconnect with those characters was a treat for me and the story of Eternal Mourning was different - we're taken to Walker's roots as a healer as he tries to figure out what is wrong with Aimee and fast as her sickness is slowly but effectively killing her.

This was the perfect story for the Talon Pack - full of emotions, action and so many elements that made me go 'awwwwww'... needless to say that i want my own shifter.

Eternal mourning is the seventh book in the Talon back series and it's the story of Aimee and Walker. Walker is the Healer of the Talon pack and Aimee is a human who is slowly dying for unknown reasons. He is trying to do everything in his power to save her, but no matter how hard he tries he can't cure the curse and her life is threatened more than before.

What I like the most in this series is how the pack is starting to adjust to the new ways things like the mating bond work out and how they discover more and more about the characters and the role they are supposed to play in the pack. Like the triplets for example. I want to see what the moon goddess has planned for the Talon pack. I keep getting hooked and wanting to read more when it comes to this series without the books having a cliffhanger, which is unusual. I want to know what that dream meant.

The only complain I had when it comes to this book, is that I wanted to see more of how Aimee was handling her new life and more of her life as a mated woman. I felt like that was pushed aside when the big bad wolf came into the picture.

I liked Aimee and Walker's story. It was sweet and despite everything bad that happened in this book, they were able to have their romance, so the book for me is well balanced. I loved Aimee and Walker as characters and as a couple. I wouldn't recommend the book as stand alone, but the series is great so if you haven't read the previous books go and read them because they are good.

This is the seventh book in this series. I have been please with this author's writing over the course of the story. When one would think that the story arc has run it's course, Ms. Ryan pulls up her panties and gives us a twist that makes us come back for more!

We have met both of these characters in previous stories, Aimee is human and Walker is the pack healer. Something is not right with Aimee and Walker has a need to make her feel better. Their connection goes deeper than that. Walker suspects they are true mates. With Aimee being human, he isn't sure he wants to explore anything with her.

The story brings us not only the budding romance, but also some suspense, the ongoing story arc of people trying to get rid of all shifters, and of course that strong sense of family that any good shifter pack story should have.

Great addition to the series. Can't wait to see how the author wraps this one up!

Walker and Aimee are perfect, just perfect, together. While I always know I am getting a good shifter book with this authour, this was outstanding and amazing.

The magic that Walker and Aimee feel, it flows off the pages and surrounds you are you read about them. The sweetness that is part of their being, is the core of their relationship, it touches your heart, and fills you with warmth. The heat that sears them with attraction, well, it'll keep you warm as well :)

Aimee and Walker change the fate of the Talons yet again, and it is only appropriate that the perfection they are together, is the change for the better that they bring about

Surprise!

Love this series and how Carrie Ann Ryan manages to keep it fresh. Yes, it's boy meets girl, go through troubles (end of their world, anyone?), learn to depend on each other and mate. But she adds so much more. And just when you think you have it figured out, you don't.

Aimee and Walker's story pretty much followed the outline, but it's the bullets under the heading that kept my attention. Aimee is a human, but something more. Her health was a major issue as we learned in Dawn's book, but she was fierce and strong, a trait that I adore in female leads. Walker, as a healer, was less 'alpha' than his brothers and cousins. His sensitivity was a major turn on for me.

Of course, as a healer, he, and/or his wolf, was drawn to the sick beauty, and as for her, who wouldn't be attracted to a Brentwood? Their courtship was backwards, as her illness forced them to do things a bit differently. As a wolf, Walker recognized his mate, but had to slow down because of her humanness. Throw in the surprise, which I won't spoil here, and that's when it really gets good.

I love the two character leads and how they are described. Aimee has been the strong one of her group for so long, it takes her some time to let someone else in, to let someone take care of her for a change. I can only imagine how scary it must have been in her shoes, to be facing her own mortality, but not knowing why. Walker's patience is amazing, though, and I enjoyed watching his growth as well.

Although this does have a HEA, it fits into the ongoing storyline with Blade as the antagonist and this story builds on it. I can't wait to read the next two books, they will be explosive!

This is such a great story, I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and was rooting for them at every turn. I hesitate to say too much for fear of giving something away. I look forward to reading what happens next.

Walker finds his mate! Life in the pack since the unveiling has been a challenge. They have rules put in place to appease the humans that won’t allow them to change someone unless they are a mate. Blade, the Alpha of the Aspen pack continues to create problems for the Talons. And Walker thinks he may have finally found his mate. When he finally finds the woman he thinks may be his mate (darned screwed up mating call) she is dying from something he can’t cure as she is human and not of the pack. Walker has always wanted what his brothers and cousins have. A mate. But Aimee is dying and human doctors can’t find anything wrong with her. Walker will do whatever is necessary to save her and convince her she is his.
Eternal Mourning is an emotional rollercoaster that will have you rooting out loud for the good guys and booing the bad guys. Bring on Kameron.

‘Eternal Mourning’ is the next chapter in the Talon Pack series. This book focuses on the Healer, Walker and his human mate Aimee. While I love this series, the last few books, while as solid as usual in the storytelling, haven’t been as enjoyable for me because, for various reasons, Carrie Ann has decided to mess with the mating bond. One of my favorite things about paranormal stories, especially those with Shifters and their mates, is that they recognize the bond immediately. Changing that a few books ago just turned the romances more into a human love connection than the special bond of mating that I so love in these books. So I was absolutely thrilled to discover that the bonds are coming back, supposedly different than before, but at least recognizable to the Shifter. I am assuming that this will be explored more in the last two books of the series, but at least there is now hope for the kind of matings that I love!

Walker and Aimee are absolutely wonderful together! We discover why Aimee’s health has been failing, a little twist I didn’t see coming, but it definitely added to the story. I just adored Aimee. For a human she was this strong, female lead who took things in stride and didn’t constantly whine about her fate. Walker was her perfect match. Who doesn’t love a sensitive, sexy, wolf shifter?

The villains in this story were as maddening as ever. Blade and Scarlett just need to die. I know it will happen eventually, but I am just afraid who else will perish in the upcoming fight with the Aspen Pack. Carrie Ann never fails to make me cry when there is an epic battle, and at least one beloved character ALWAYS dies, so I am getting really nervous about who we will lose in the last two books in the series.

Kameron and Dhani are in the next one ‘Strength Enduring’ coming July 2018 and Max is in the final book ‘Forever Broken’ coming January 2019. I really, really hope that Audrey will be his mate because that woman deserves some happiness after what Blade is doing to her.

I tried to keep the spoilers to a minimum for this review, but it was really hard since so much happens in this book. Most definitely worth the read! July is such a long way off to have to wait to see what happens next!

Loved! I have always enjoyed the Redwood and Talon Pack books, this one is now right up there as one of my favorites and is my favorite non menage one. With the mating bonds out of whack, no one truly knows their mate on site anymore. So, when Walker and Aimee are around each other they both feel something there but Walker is left wondering could she be his mate. Aimee is sick and no doctor can figure out what is wrong, but she is slowly dying. Insert Walker and his want to be near her, to be friends with her, to want more with her. They are in a race against time not only for Aimee but there is still the Aspen Pack and their Alpha to deal with.

I was glued to this book. I did not want to put it down and it was another night of staying up way to late to read. What happens next? Can Walker save Aimee's life? GLUED!!!!!

I am a big fan of Carrie Ann Ryan's paranormal work as well as her contemporary stories. Eternal Mourning is part of her Talon Pack series. First of all I love the title of this book. There was just a beauty and sadness to it.

I loved how Walker and Aimee's story was told and that it really differed from the other books in the series in my opinion. Walker is the pack Healer and Aimee was introduced to the pack through her friend Dawn, a newly mated member. There was just something so beautiful about this story that really got to me. This story adds more twists and turns to the Talon pack and how they are ever changing in a world where the rules are not black and white. It's the shades of grey that make you gasp and want to know more. The hard part will be waiting for the next book in the series.

Eternal Mourning is Carrie Ann Ryan's newest hit in the Talon Pack series! The anticipation had been building for this one for quite some time and boy did Ms. Ryan deliver. This story was jam packed from start to finish with drama, angst, action and tons of heat. Not to mention a major plot twist that was a total blind side.

It was one of those stories that you quickly devour because you can't put it down but want to read slowly so you can savor every word. I was completely blown away. It was certainly one of Ms. Ryan's best.

I swear this poor pack can’t catch a break they always are fighting against something, whether it be tyranny in their own pack, anti shifter groups, and now a power hungry alpha of another pack.
The fighting however is what made them strong and the fighting with a mate at their side has made that mated pair even stronger, this time it’s the Healer and the human’s turn to fight side by side.
Walker is the Talon pack’s healer and since the pack’s magic has made the mating bonds all wonky, he has made it his mission to try and find a way to fix it.
Aimee is a human that had no clue that shifters excited until the unveiling and that her friend was one until she shifter in front of her eyes. These two are thrown together because her friend has mated into his family, but they are also attracted to each other.
Walker doesn’t know if his attracted to her because she could be a possible mate or because he is. For Aimee the attraction is real, but since she is dying, and no one can figure out why, she is trying to stay away.
Can I just say, Wow! Know what all this pack has gone through and what they are going through in this book is crazy!!!!
Aimee is one hella of a strong woman to be at death’s door and still fight the way she is and Walker is with her every step of the way. I love how he is trying to find a way to save her even though the human’s can’t find out what is wrong with her and still trying to find a way to correct the wonky mating bonds.
When these guys finally stop fighting their attraction and come together it’s magic, maybe even healing too.
Ryan has done a awesome job writing a nail biting shifter story full of action and love once again and I can’t wait for the the story from the Talon Pack.

OMG, I love where Carrie Ann Ryan is going with the Talon Pack series. In the last book, she introduced a new game-changer element to the Talon Pack's on-going challenges, and that was expounded upon and made a key element in Eternal Mourning.

I've been dying to get Walker's story. He's the Talon Pack's Healer, and has been a stalwart presence in every book. He's a calming presence and has an amazing and very useful ability to heal most wounds for those in his pack. He's seen his brothers and cousins find their mates, and he wants that for himself so much. He finally finds that in Aimee, but there's a big problem - she's dying.

Aimee knows she's dying, but she has no idea why or what to do about it. When she meets Walker and has this instant connection to him, she wants so much to explore that, but her limited time complicates matters. Walker can't heal her since she's a human and not a part of the pack. And she doesn't want him to mate with her just so he can heal her. It's an impossibly difficult situation for both of them, and I can't imagine all the hard decisions they had to make.

Meanwhile, the threats from another new enemy are escalating, which adds yet another complication to Walker's and Aimee's potential HEA. These two certainly have the deck stacked against them.

I don't want to say too much about the new elements that Carrie Ann Ryan has thrown into the mix or about the new enemy that the Talons and Redwoods are facing - it's better if you experience it yourself without me giving away the surprise. I'll just say that the ways that she is keeping this series fresh and exciting are awesome. I'm with her 100% as we explore them more in coming books. In fact, if I had one complaint about Eternal Mourning, it would be that I wanted more of these exciting changes than what we got. But, there's still two books left in the series, so I'm hoping I'll get more details soon.

Walker and Aimee are a great couple, and I loved their story. Walker is one of the sweetest Talons, and the way he cared for Aimee made my heart flutter. He might be super sweet, but when he needs to turn on the sexiness, he's on fire. This is a great addition to the Talon Pack series, and a great set-up to the final two books that are yet to come.

Book seven in the ongoing Talon Pack saga focuses on Walker, the pack healer, and Aimee, a human.  Walker knows what he wants from life, but because of the problems with the pack mate bonds, he isn't sure how to recognize it if he finds it.  Aimee, on the other hand, doesn't think she will be around long enough to have what she wants from life.

Despite everything that is going on, Walker still has that "glass half full" mentality.  He seems to feel like if he just keeps working, researching, moving, things are going to work out and they will find the answers they are looking for.  He does not seem to ever have any doubts that he will find the answers to the pack mate bonds, he will find a way to make Aimee better, he will be able to keep his pack mates and family alive.  His strength of character in the face of massive adversity speaks volumes about the type of person that he is.

Aimee has dealt with her own types of adversity.  It seems that no matter how hard she works, life just keeps her down.  Now, her health is failing her and none of the doctors can figure out why.

As always, the author has given us a story full of love and family, while also throwing in enough action and bad guys to keep us enthralled.  It was definitely a  well written story, with intriguing characters, and secrets aplenty.  I never knew what was coming next, and I can't wait to see what the author has up her sleeve next!

Although each book in the series focuses on a new couple, there is an underlying story arc that continues from book to book.  Each story can be read alone, but there are things that probably won't make sense, unless you have already read the other stories in the series.  Each book ends in a HEA for the main characters, but leaves enough open questions to transition smoothly into the next book.  I recommend reading all of the books in the series, as well as the Redwood pack books, in order to get the full effect of the ongoing story line.

ARC REVIEW

Talon Pack#7, Carrie Ann Ryan is so good when it comes to clusterfucks. Her stories are so well planned and throughout you never know what's going to happen next. Her stories are also emotional they hit you in the right spot and her romance, oooo, so hot and steamy. Walker and Aimee's love story was so worth the wait.

Walker is the healer for the Talon pack, he's no soldier he's doing what he was Goddess blessed to do. When someone is sick he want s to fix them that why he thinks he's being pulled toward Aimee, he knows she is sick. But he's lying to himself he knows the real reason he's drawn to her, more than a few seconds around her and everything else fades away. The fact that she is sick complicates everything. While Aimee knows she doesn't have the time she wants to make sure the feeling are coming from the right place from the heart and not out of pity because Aimee feels the same for Walker. Just when they think they have things figured out life throws them a curveball. That's just the tip of the clusterfuck iceberg the new big bad has was focused on Parker, but after another failed attempt he decides to go after their healer and the best way to get to Walker is to go through Aimee.

One thing I love is that with Carrie Ann Ryan you don't have to wait until the end of the book to get a teaser for the next book. Overall, it's another outstanding book for this epic series. Walker and Aimee just such a good story and Walker is such a sweetheart and Aimee is so much strong than she thinks she is; she's become one of my favorites. The ending seemed to wrap up real quick but it was still a nail bitter and edge of your seat excitement kind of ending.

This is book 7 in the Talon pack series and I highly recommend that you read the previous books so you understand the main story ARC and what happened to characters in this book previously. THis one is about Walker Brentwood and Aimee Reagan. Walker is the healer for the clan and has been trying to figure out how to change mating bonds back to how they should be along with keeping his family healthy and as whole as possible. Aimee is one of Dawn's human friends. She knows that there is something wrong with her but the doctor's still can't find anything no matter how often she has tests done. But she continues to decline for no reason and she knows it's just a matter of time before she is gone. But Walker refuses to lose he before he figures out whether Aimee is his mate or just someone he truly cares about. No matter what he wants to have that chance and he wants her to have the life she deserves.

I absolutely loved this book! I have always liked Walker and couldn't wait for his book and boy this one didn't disappoint me in the least! Him and Aimee are perfect for each other and understand each other in ways that you certainly don't expect. When they figure out what is happening to her? I never expected that! Or how she is saved!! But it's those twists that made me love it even more! I can't wait for the next book and after reading what Audrey did for Aimee and Walker? I really hope to see a book about her HEA!!

OMG Walker's book was amazing.

Walker is the Pack's Healer and spends his time taking care of others. Aimee's friend has just shown her friends that she is a shifter and she's thrown into a whole new world. Aimee is unfortunately dying and no one can figure out why! There is insta-attraction between them but they both have internal issues to work through: Walker doesn't know is he's attracted to her because she's a potential mate or if it's just sexual and Aimee doesn't feel like she should be attracted to anyone when she's dying.

I've always liked Walker and I loved getting to see this more personal side of him. The twists in this book were top notch full of rich characters, crazy drama and a super evil rogue. This book definitely touches you and I loved it.

I usually do pretty well at remembering where I’m at in the larger plot arc within a series. With a few clues from the author in a new release, I can easily recall what happened in the last book, who the big bad was, etc. Not so with Eternal Mourning. For some reason, it felt like I was very unceremoniously dumped into the Talon Pack world here. Essentially, before picking up this book I recommend rereading, skimming, or at least reading your review for Destiny Disgraced.

Even with the little hiccup of me not tracking the villain or remembering anything about Mitchell and Dawn in the last book, I really enjoyed Eternal Mourning. Walker has been one of my very favorite Talons from the start of this series, and his calm, hopeful presence really shined in this book. Aimee was the yin to Walker’s yang, bringing him out of his shell a bit more and forcing him to deal with unanticipated medical circumstances (which as the pack’s Healer drove Walker crazy).

Aimee and Walker’s mating did seem a bit rushed at times, but the situation warranted their quick love story and, honestly, it suited them. The moon goddess blessed the Talons in plentiful ways and I loved that once Walker found the mate that he’d be praying to the moon goddess for he dove in whole-heartedly. Aimee never stood a chance once the Healer determined he wanted to explore their blossoming feelings. 4 stars for this romance that gave me ALL the feels!

Carrie Ann Ryan turned up the heat in her latest Talon Pack novel. Eternal Mourning follows the riveting journey of Walker and Aimee in this exciting paranormal world of shifters and magic.

I absolutely loved this book. Walker and Aimee were such great characters, and their story was incredibly rich with scorching chemistry and passion. OMG ! This couple had to fight against more than one formidable enemy. They had to overcome one trial after another as the author kept the situation lively with many twists. Let's just say that I can't wait for Blade and his Scarlett witch to get what's coming to them and also find out what happened to Audrey. Lastly, I loved catching up with the other Talon Pack characters from the previous books. With only Kameron and Max as the only single wolves left I can't help but wonder about what's next.

I've been following the Redwood and Talon Packs since the beginning. I haven't missed a book and am always eagerly looking forward to every book. I loved this one and with Kameron and Max as the only single Talon wolves left I can't help but wonder about what's going to happen when they get their books. Up next is Strength Enduring in July 2018. It's Kameron and Dhani's book. I can't wait for that one.

Action-packed storyline & unforgettable characters who drag you into their tale of fated mates. Each book in this awesome series is linked by an overall background storyline which flows through each one with the finale being revealed in the last book. These stories should be read in order so that the reader can gain the best knowledge of the Talon pack history. As pack healer, Walker is determined to keep his packmates and family alive. When he meets Aimee, he knows she is not well, but as she is not pack, he cannot even try to help her. Aimee doesn’t want to get too close to Walker, because she doesn’t want to leave him alone when she dies. The struggle this pair go through really pulls at the heart strings. I love this series.

I absolutely loved this story!! It was a fantastic read and so well written. I loved Walker and Aimee from the beginning. We met Aimee in the previous book as she is one of Dawn's best friends. We knew that she was sick and that something was going on but not what. Walker knows that Aimee means something to him. With the way that the mating bonds are working he isn't sure if she is his mate but he is absolutely drawn to her and knows that there is more to it. I loved how Walker and Aimee handled building their relationship with everything that gets thrown at them. Things might move fast but they don't lose sight of the steps they each need to build a strong relationship. I loved the twist in this one and am super excited to see where this goes. The story will pull you in from beginning to end. Once I started reading, I really didn't want to stop (but I had to work the next day). The sex is explicit and fits the characters and the story and was a great addition. Everything flowed really well and we got a great mix of action and character focus. I can't wait to get Kameron's story next!

This is the latest chapter in the stories of the Talon pack, and yet another wonderful story full of intrigue, suspense, action and romance. Eternal Mourning follows Walker, the Pack healer, and Aimee, a human friend of a fellow Talon pack member. The war with humans has calmed down, but a new threat is on the horizon, and so we find out more about the Aspen pack and their Alpha, Blade, who is challenging them (from the shadows) in his bid to be Alpha of Alphas.

Walker and Aimee’s relationship is hampered by the issues the wolves are having with their mating bonds, but true love will overcome... won’t it!! This book is a great romance, but didn’t quite hit its normal 5 star level as it felt like it was setting the scene for the new adversary and the final battle for the Talon pack.

I can’t wait for the final two books as I think these will be the best yet... we are ready for the final show down and for Kameron and (especially) Max (yes he is my favourite) to tell us their stories!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

There were so many ups and downs in this book. I was laughing one minute, then crying the next. And the new threat has my pulse racing. The love between Walker and Aimee was so real and heartfelt. I know things moved fast but, they had no choice.

Carrie Ann Ryan does it again. If you are following her series, The Talon Pack, you will not be disappointed in the latest installment. Oh my! Walker & Amiee's story is sweet and steamy. Unlike
his other family members, Walker wants to find his mate. And, from the instant Walker & Amiee meet, there is an instant connection felt from both of them. There are some interesting surprises
and twists in this one. There mating does change things, for the better. Also, Carrie Ann doesn't just forge ahead in a new direction without taking not only the Talons there but the Redwoods and Central Packs, too. I am looking forward to the next story which features Kameron's story. I hope Cheyenne and Audrey get a story as well. Well done Carrie Ann!!!

Ding Dong the witch is dead... or is she? Omg Carrie Ann Ryan how you tease us so. So many questions are being answered with more questions hiding behind the next corner.. but lord how I love it! Walker in all his searching The Goddess made him realize there so much more to what they are and what they're about to become, but at what cost?

Eternal Mourning is the latest installment in the Talon Pack series. This story follows the mating of the Pack healer, one of the triplets, Walker. Since the unveiling and subsequent battles, he and his sister-in-law Leah have worked to keep the pack healthy. His brothers mating to Dawn brings Aimee, one of Dawn’s best friends, in to his sights. The trouble recognizing mating bonds, created by the entry of not natural born wolves in to the Pack, makes it difficult for Walker to tell whether Aimee is his mate. This is a great continuation of this series! The Brentwood family and the Talon wolves have been through so much and have much more to endure. I can’t wait to read how Kameron and Max finally find their mates and defeat the Aspen Pack.
