Gabe Randall's whole life fell apart, then he met the Mate who was destined to put him back together.

Gabe Randall was at the peak of his college football game when bureaucrats stole his future. Shifters were no longer allowed to compete in human sporting events, so his only hope was a new football league just for them. Just as he's getting ready to join a new team in this league, his whole world comes crashing down when tragedy strikes his family. Without hope or direction, he turns to alcohol. He finds comfort in the arms of a woman who he felt a real connection to, but he left before he could drag her down.

Carolyn knew how these one night stands worked, but it still hurt when Gabe walked out of her life. Just as she was about to get things back on track, she finds out she's pregnant. Will she ever even see Gabe again, and can she even be sure that he is the father to her unborn child?

Fate isn't done with these two...

This full length bear shifter paranormal romance novel has all the action, steam and true love that only a Fated Mates story can deliver!

This is a great shifter love story that is filled with non stop action. Gabe has just been though a traumatic life changing event and because of Carolyn he’s comes out of he other side a completely different man. For a while I wasn’t a fan of Carolyn’s personality and the way she was but I guess being under the stress it would explain it, over time she grew on me. Gabe is such a passionate man and I love that he constantly gives his all. When he gets a temper and the animal inside him wants to be set free you’d better watch out. We’re given a love/hate love triangle story in a way that kept me on my toes and wanting more. Wonderful ending that left a smile on my face. If you’re into Bear shifters and a HEA then this is definitely a book for you. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

GABRIEL is the first book in the new Shifter Football League series from Becca Fanning. Though each will be a complete story covering the meet-cute to HEA of one couple, there is an over-arching storyline that requires that they do be read in the order of release.

I loved some of the tropes that were not in this book. This story was all about the shifters, but there was no talk of fated mates. There was no insta-love. Instead, our shifters were humans with a little extra something to add to their lives. Their relationships were just as full of angst, joy, uncertainty, and fear as the rest of us feel. I loved that Gabriel was a man of his emotions – good and bad. I understood Carolyn; Flight in the face of fear is a natural reaction. It is psychology 101 and taught on the first day, in fact! There are a lot of people who are going to hate Carolyn. I struggled to not call her names myself. In the end, I had to admit that she was just a human making her own mistakes and living with the consequences. I did think her last one was cruel to Gabriel, but it fit her character. All of this is set with the backdrop of major league football (don’t worry, you don’t need to know your end zone from your elbow) and it is definitely one of my favorite books so far this year.

Bottom line: I love Gabriel. I like Carolyn. Then there is the other player – Kenny. Like an old-time silent movie, I wanted to holler “boo” and “hiss” every time Kenny appeared in the pages. Of course, it ends the way it should, but…. Book 2 is titled KENNY!

I’m looking forward to many more adventures in this new shifter football league world.

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Gabriel BBW Shifter Secret Baby Football Romance
Shifter Football League Book 1
by Becca Fanning
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
OMG what a story this is! What a great enjoyable read, this book really delves deep into a relationship! This story had my emotions at fever pitch, it's very edgy and engaging romance, it brought tears to my eyes a few times. it's another SPECTACULAR paranormal romance! The story is totally absorbing, exciting page turner that you can't help but to keep reading until you finish it. The characters are exciting, captivating, engaging and well delevoped. There is some great emotional scenes in this story, it's a great start to a series. I enjoy reading Becca Fanning books no matter what the title. Becca Fanning is a author that I would seriously be her book stalker, I know I will always be a ride or die fan. The story is about Gabe and Carolyn. Gabe Randall is a bear shifter and a great football player but the politician decides the shifters can't play with humans, so Gabe is mad but he gets a job, then there is a shifter team that wants Gabe he's so happy, but the training is hard so Gabe needs to get lots of rest. Gabe brother Austin is killed, again Gabe gets mad and wants to kill someone, but he falls apart instead. Carolyn is a beautiful college student, who is running away from her past. One nite she meets Gabe in a bar and gives him her number because she can tell he's hurting and she wants to help him. Gabe calls Carolyn she helps him, they spend one nite together. But fate will send them on another path. This story has lots of elements in it. WOW this story just drew me in and I couldn't stop reading. I voluntarily reviewed this book, because I love sharing my thoughts with my fellow readers!

Normally I love Becca Fanning's book, but this one was not a book I'd like to listen to again, in fact I only finished because I wanted to post a review for it, and I don't review books I don't finish.

It was a mixed experience, the narration was excellent, the character voices were well done and the overall delivery was really well done.

The story however... it's well written, the characters are well developed and the setting is really well done. Based on that you're probably wondering, why the 2 stars right? That's because the relationship in this book is abusive in my opinion. Gabriel thinks at one point that he's angry enough to hit her and although he doesn't this is disturbing. Add to that some of the things he says to her 'the only thing you're good for is spreading your legs' and other degrading comments and I don't see how this could be seen as anything other than emotional abuse.

Not really a fan of Carolyn either, she kept way too many secrets, the things that she omitted meant that she might as well have lied and at times she did outright lie, and not about small things either.

The relationship was toxic from both sides, there was nothing romantic about it.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Woo child

So I started reading and thought I love the way this going. And then we got down to the meat and potatoes and... o want to slap 👋 the crap out of Carolyn. My biggest pet peeve is when people decide to be martyrs for everyone else’s happiness. My second is when women get pregnant and take the whole it’s my body my baby thing over a cliff and murder it.

Both of these things happen. Carolyn called herself making the best decision for Gabe even after he said he wanted he wanted to be a father and a husband. And then because she didn’t like Kenny she wasn’t going to tell him he could potentially be the father. Like all of lying by omission stuff just over complicated everything. It was like she couldn’t figure out how to make a decent decision for a huge portion of the book.

I felt for during the arguments because I know how bad stress can be on an unborn child so I get that. But then it was like nightmare of her own making. I mean we all make mistakes. The key is not to make it worse and it’s pretty much what she did. I will say that Kenny was in fact a butthole. And probably would have been a crap boyfriend but maybe if given the chance he would be a great father.

All in all I really loved the plot of the story and the baseline of the whole situation. I just wasn’t a fan of emotionally messy it all was.

Becca Fanning's Bear shifter books are definitely getting better and better when I first started to read them I reviewed them at 4 stars but lately definitely 5 stars, as there is so much more depth to them, and this one even made me cry, which is always a sign of a good book. Gabe Randall is a bear shifter and professional football player, when the authorities ruin his career by deciding shifters could no longer play as they had an unfair advantage over the human players. Then they decide to have a shifter only league and just as his life starts to pick up, tragedy strikes his family, and he turns to drink unable to concentrate on his career and he has a one night stand. Carolyn has got out of an awful marriage and isn't looking for a relationship, she has a one night stand with Gabe and knows how they work, but there was a connection and she's hurt when he doesn't get in touch. Then just as her life seems to be getting back on track she finds out she's pregnant but she's not even sure if Gabe is the father, as he's not the only one night stand she had. I won't tell you any more as I hate when reviewers give away too much of the story and spoil it for other readers.

I really like a good sports story and even better a shifter sports story.
This one is a good one, but full of drama. Just a little to much drama for my liking.

It starts good with shifters being banded from the normal football series and starting their own series. Gabriel is selected.
Next thing is his brother is killed in a bar by anti shifters. He can't get over this. (He says he wants revenge, but that is not in this book not even a search for the men who did this)
He meets Carolyn and I like the way she gets him through that night when they hook up. That is such a strong part in this book.
But after she lets him see the light and him fighting to get control back they don't contact each other.

Then the extra drama starts, she is pregnant, but from who? She is also still married to a crazy man. Mix this all together and you get this story. Everytime Gabe chooses her, there is another thing popping up throwing him off again.
Will they stay together in the end? For that you will have to read the book.

Awesome book about bear shifters/ human Romance

Gabe is bear shifter who is overwhelmed by grief when his brother is killed. His problems are drinking, not attending to a job, and being suicidal. Ecard this human girl Carolyn when he been drinking and overwhelmed with grief tries thinking about suicide. Instead he and Carolyn make love.

She also make slime with somebody else Kenny. Then finds out she is pregnant. She thinks she has to go home to have the baby because she is going to be a single mother. Until she meets Gabe at the airport, when she realizes that she does want her and the baby. There's a comedy of errors when she finds out she is still married to to someone else, had sex with Kenny, and doesn't really know who the baby belongs to

The characters are relatable and dramatic. The situations reeds like a tragedy of errors instead of a comedy. I will not give away the ending.

Highly recommended especially does scenario of the football game the bear Bowl.

Shifters were no longer allowed to compete in human sporting events and his only hope was a new football league just for shifters. Tragedy strikes his family and Gabe loses all hope and direction. He spirals out of control, unable to connect with his life. He finds comfort and a connection in the arms of a woman, but left before he could drag her down. Carolyn knew how these one night stands worked and she was not ready for more because she has her own issues to deal with. Just as she was about to get things back on track, she finds out she's pregnant. I expected Carolyn to act more mature after the many things she had been through. She employs avoidance, jumps to conclusions, and is an emotional wreck.

I love my sports and this one drew right in . Love how the author took a poplar sport and just blew this listener away . Gabriel is a bear shifter that takes pride in playing football . The shifters in the league find a typical outcome from the humans , non shifters . They don’t want any shifters playing with them . Are the humans jealous . What do the shifters do but start their own league.
Gabriel meets a women who he has a one night stand . Gabriel and Carolyn have a great night together and right when Carolyn thinks they will go further, Gabriel runs he disappears.
Carolyn gets a rude awakening from Mother Nature. Carolyn wonders if she should seek Gabriel out and tell him

Meghan Kelly nailed it right on. Her voice doing all the characters were dead on . Loved how you knew who was Meghan telling about

Disjointed and immature

This reads like two 14-yr olds had unprotected sex then fumbled through pregnancy.

She is separated , potentially in her very early 20s, and both times she has sex it is without protection. Common theme, as a couple of near misses with the ex-hubby are mentioned.

Inconsitencies everywhere: in relation to her family (her father walked out her mum when her mum was pregnant and never had anything to do with her but she was almost suicidal at his passing), in relation to her background (she broke up with her ex because he was an alcoholic but There is mention she was a drug user) in relation to her finances (he was a full-time semi pro athlete but they now need to live on food stamps).... with many, many more examples possible .

This is a wonderful story filled with love, loss and turmoil. Mistakes make these characters question everything. Gabe is a bear shifter who wants to become a pro football player. It seems like everything is against him. When he hits his lowest of the lows he meets Carolyn. Carolyn knows pain...she knows disappointment. When she sees Gabe she sees his pain. Can these two meet on a level playing field?

These two have many ups and downs. I wondered many times if they would even end up together. They both have to learn how to forgive. Themselves and each other. I did listen to this on audio. The narrators did a great job! Easy to listen to and the story moves along at an excellent pace.

I’m slowly working my way into shifter romances and this is an innocent enough one. Unfortunately it was really hard for me to enjoy the narration, I’m not sure if it was the cadence or what but I wasn’t a fan. I also couldn’t get on board with the female main character; Caroline seemed like a good one at the beginning with how she helped Gabe when he was at a low point in his life. She was very wishy washy between going back to her old life that she hated or staying and being with Gabe and not to mention it was constant lies coming from her mouth. Just because you want something to be the truth doesn’t mean it is. Not to mention the cruel lie at the end to test Gabe, yeah she’s a nope for me.

Talk anout The Fates deciding to play " Barbies" with the couple !! Gabe and Carolyn must have a "mess with my life please" , tattooed on their bodies someplace only Tge Fates could see, because anything that could go wrong , did go wrong !! Old Murphys's Law had a field day with these two !! The only shining silver lining ; their baby that Carolyn never expected to get pregnant with, muchless realize she wanted !! This book has laughter, tears, too much alcohol imbibed, loss and love. 4 ⭐'s fir a well written, definitely want to read book by Becca Fanning . I received a gifted copy of the book and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review of the book.

Audiobook review: I really appreciate how the author addressed death and the pitfalls that those left behind have to face emotionally along with ways to bring someone out of the hole; with this alone she gets 5 Stars. No glossing over. I liked that the book made the shifters more human without the genre’s normally included tropes of fated mates or insta love. You’ll want to shake the characters or yell at them periodically. However, these two definitely won’t make a happily forever couple with anger & lying in their relationship only a happy for now. The narrator did a nice job. I received a free copy of this audiobook and have voluntarily left this review.

I wanted to like this audiobook so much. The premise of a Shifter Football League really intrigued me. It was a storyline that I have not encountered previously. However, it just fell short. The beginning was ok but as soon as Carolyn and Gabe moved in together, things just fell apart for me. It just wasn't for me.
The narrator was not my favorite storyteller. She did an amazing job with secondary characters at giving them unique voices. I just didn't like when she did the main characters and the main narration.
This may have not been my favorite but I did like the premise.

Good story! I was a bit skeptical at first. as I am not into sports players. I found I was pleasantly surprised to find the main theme was not sports. Gabe was having a very rough year and also was starting on the first shifters only football team. Carolyn was trying to finish her classes and making some bad decisions. Can their love survive all the turmoil? I have volunteered to give an honest review for this book. I don't think you will be disappointed with this one.

Carolyn and Gabe make mistakes in thinking they each know better in a world that is dangerous and changing. Gabe's shifting abilities set him apart from Carolyn who is a human. They spend a night together and complications arise. Realizing what is important in their lives brings them toward their future. I enjoyed the story, watching them grow as they learn. By the end I had tears and smiles.

I received a copy of this story and this is my unsolicited review.

Drama

I really liked how this started out, but as the story progressed there was just ... Not enough happy. Carolyn brings a lot of drama & then just as I was feeling things smooth out, there was more drama.
So, if you like angsty drama in your shifter football books, this might be for you! The writing, characters & story were well written, just not as enjoyable for me as I'd hoped.

Ms Fanning does know her way around bear's! Gabe was one minded..Football..but with them breaking up the league's from shifters and humans it threw a wrench in his plan. Tragedy strikes close home and sends him in a tailspin. He meets a girl and everything changes. One night changes his life forever. Good storyline and good characters.

Totally Awesome

Every emotion between Gabriel and Carolyn hit me spot on right between the eyes...it's like my own real life story except my husband took the leap when I was 5 months pregnant despite the doubts because we loved each other whether or not our baby was biologically his...today he is the best husband and father a woman and a boy could ever have.

Great Read!

I thoroughly enjoyed this shifter romance with a mystery twist. I would have given it five stars; however, there were multiple grammatical errors throughout the book. They didn’t take away from the storyline but were an unnecessary distraction. The main characters were fairytale like an definitely brought a smile to my face. Good couple hour read.

Either knew little about football

Ok story, but to be a sports romance the author did not know anything about football. Our hero, Gabe, was written as the "star quarterback" but in the near of the football scenes he read more like a wide receiver or tight end . Do some more research Ms. Fanning.

Amazing narration to this book! The book itself is great. It seems so fast your life can change from good to bad and back again. Their relationship is definitely bumpy but I was glad to see that they got their happy ending in the end. Definitely a book worth reading!

Only two stars because I don't like the full description of sex and the F bomb in the books. My preference. Otherwise I was starting to enjoy the book until those two spots showed up sadly. Plus the emotional rudeness being talked about Carolyn is just heart breaking.

Just...ok

This was ok. It had the potential to be great but it really missed the mark. It seemed all over the place. The characters were whiny and their emotions were confusing and childish. I wanted it to be good. I really did. But it was just ok.
