A three hour pep talk. Well written and well narrated by Charles Wells on Audible. Just the right balance between being kind and being tough. Don’t expect it to be a short cut to happiness or to provide life changing new insights. But how nice is it to be remembered empathically about the things we know but not always apply? Great to listen to during a work out.

This book provides basic steps for building good habits. It's good if that's all you're looking for - checklist of steps to try. However, changing is hard. It lacks the variety of examples and inspirational stories needed to be an excellent book on building good habits.

It's not bad, but it is terribly basic. I could only recommend this to someone who has never read anything about the subject. It that case, it would be a 4-star book and a good starting point on the topic.

I listened to this only since it was an Audible Daily Deal. Although I didn't learn anything new, I think it could be a helpful set of reminders for some young adults.

I finally finished it! Over a year later. How's that for self-discipline? haha
It was decent. Nothing necessarily ground shaking or something I've never heard before, but it was still very motivating. Motivation is a huge part of self discipline!

There were multiple times where it sounded like I was listening to a paragraph of motivational quotes, and that got old a few times. I may just not be a self-help book type of person, so I don't want to turn people away from this book. However, I will say that the author was unfortunately exclusive with all of this helpful advice, not speaking to the mere fact that so many people are neurospicy. One HUGE example that ticked me off was the "just DO it" attitude. You can't just DO it when you have a literal chemical imbalance in your brain, causing executive dysfunction. Depression is also touched on, but again, professional help and medication is usually needed to help with that.

Self-Discipline is another great book on developing good habits. This book is a self-help book that helps you break down the barriers that are holding you back. While this book did not give me any earth-shattering new content it helped me reprioritize my habits, goals, and decisions.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick read that will allow you to analyze your daily habits, routines, and decisions. This book is a great way to check and make sure you are still on track or it will help you get you back to where you need to be.

Good Read.

I am a very motivated person, who usually get things accomplished. However, I am always looking to find new mechanisms to improving my self-discipline. The book falls into the realm of the Nike colloquialism of Just Do It. Well, everyone know to accomplish anything that you have to just do it, get to work on the task. Everyone also knows that you need to plan on how to accomplish whatever you plan on doing. Everyone knows that it could help to make a list. Everyone knows that if you make excuses then you probably will not complete the task. Then she goes further to state Weight Watchers’ incentives to reward yourself when you accomplish small steps. Then she says to not make you goal too big, unachievable. Sounds like a losers mentality to me. Set you goals outside of your reach and achieve them, that’s my motto. If you don’t reach them then half of the accomplishment should have been just reaching for the sky and learning to fall on your ass and getting back up. She states that failure is just another opportunity to succeed. Well, of course it is. Nothing in this books is anything that people don’t already know. The only thing worth mentioning is well, nothing.

Do you know the feeling when you are super excited about a particular new item/dish, that looks so good, which you have been seeing it's ad everywhere, and couldn't wait to try it out, and when you did, you were like "meh!" it wasn't good but it wasn't bad, either, just meh! Same taste, but different presentation.

That's the same feeling I had for "Self-Discipline", it didn't bring new things to me, but more like reminded me of techniques I've read or heard elsewhere (other management and self-development kind of books). All the points pour to one major point; it starts from within. If you are not 100% convinced that you want to change to improve, all these techniques mentioned, and others, will slightly do some changes, temporary. Self-discipline, from finishing a task or a project, to learning new skill, starts from within.

I recommend this book to those who are not familiar with other books, or want to grasp as much information and knowledge as they can from fewer books, this one, Self-Discipline: Develop Good Habits. Achieve Your Goals by Jennifer Alison, is for them.

Self-Discipline: Develop Good Habits. Achieve Your Goals. by Jennifer Alison is essentially a "self-help for dummies" text. Can it help you? Sure, but you should really already know what this book is. Seriously, take a few minutes and imagine what you should write down in order to give some advice about developing good habits. Did you say something about procrastination being something to tackle? What about the need to make sure your goals are achievable? Or making sure you do not try to do too much at once? Well, congrats, this book is of a similar vein. There are also a few discomfiting lines that just grate to come across. You know the ones: Do you spend time reading a book, and or watching television? Let me help you accomplish your work goals, and or life goals. If I ever write like that, punch me in the head please. Better quality will emerge after the comma.

But I am being mean. This book is harmless and short. It might actually be pretty useful for some young people who never got good advice in their life. It was also really cheap.

While it is nothing super groundbreaking, sometimes it is useful to just refresh yourself on these strategies and take stock of yourself and the effectiveness of your past goal-setting. This is short enough that it is not a huge commitment if you want to get some tips when setting new goals or projects, and I found the checklists and slight pep-talk-esque tone really motivating. Many of the tips I had heard before, but sometimes you just need to be reminded of something really obvious for it to really sink in, and some of the lists included tips I hadn't thought of before. Admittedly, I don't usually read books like this, so someone more well-versed in the self-help or goal-setting book space may find this repetitive, but I think this is a great condensed version of the information for people like me who don't want to deep dive, they just want a little guidance and some timely reminders on how to get out of your own way every now and then.

Bland and mediocre, the book is another 2 hour pep-talk text that might be cheaper than paying for 2 hours of time for a life coach, but is trivial as a book of content.

The overall message can be summarized as: accomplishing goals is hard, therefore make a bunch of little goals. Engage in frequent introspection and to stay "on course".

If one is interested in this topic, try "Fast Focus", "Peak Performance", "The Now Habit at Work", or any of Cal Newport's books. This one is too short and too trivial to be of much value. Not recommended

Good for a first read.
If you have never read a book on self disciplines, this will be a quality read. Helpful and a good place to start. If you are like me and you are a junkie for this stuff - this one won't offer anything earth shattering. I got it as a discounted audible read and thought it would offer me new ideas to share.
For the right audience, this is a fine read. I hope this review helps them find it.

Was just okay. I do not believe I heard anything new here in particular, but this book could help those without a place to start. I will say that I was (and am still) deeply annoyed by any suggestion that losing 100 pounds in a half a year is a healthy rate of weight loss. (Also, please do not misunderstand, as this is not a weight loss book, but losing 100 pounds was an often-repeated example of a goal one might have).

Some might say it's mostly a collection of cliches and familiar sayings on the subject of self-discipline. I wouldn't say there's a great deal of unique thought here, but it is a solid summary. Even better the chapters end with a summary of themselves helping the reader review once again where they just came from.

One reviewer called this a 3 hour pep talk and that is a pretty good description. Not a lot of new information but many good reminders about what it takes to persevere and achieve life goals. I listened to this book on Audible and I'll probably listen to it again just as a reminder and encouragement.

This is an Audible self-help book. It has received decent reviews from many, but I found it simplistic and repetitive. Still, it offers sound advice — so much so that it inspired me to stick with the book until the finish.

This book is objectively terrible. It is overly simplistic and full of advice that you give a third grader. The irony here is that anyone that actually needs the advice in this book would never take the initiative to read it. I had to stop as this was a complete waste of my time.

A quick but practical guide to developing self-discipline. This book was comprehensive in its advice and gave examples from weight loss to completing everyday tasks. I felt a boost of motivation reading this and will probably return to it again in the future if I ever need a pick me up!

Average, but I liked the points of how habits develop after 21 to 28 days and that we must have self-love and support to succeed.

The book is small, yet precise. Never start with it if you are new to the topic, yet, it is a very good recap and a reminder to what you have learned.

Highly recommended
