Francesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.
She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.
Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.
This book is a childish book because it talks about this boy named Henry who they call horrid. They call him horrid because he is always rude to his parents, siblings, and teacher ect. He calls everybody names like his brother perfect peter. I recommend this book to 2nd grade-4th grade because the book is very childish.
Review 3 Horrid Henry’s Christmas cracker by Francesca Simon Horrid Henry was a naughty boy both at home and school. They were supposed to do a Christmas play in school and Horrid Henry wanted to play the lead but his teacher said he was not going to as he had played the lead when he was in the infants’ class. Instead he had to play the role of an innkeeper. This made Horrid Henry upset as it was a passive role. His young brother Peter got the lead role and that made Horrid Henry even more upset. On the day of the play at school, Horrid Henry did not do what he had rehearsed until his teacher had to run and nab him off the stage. On Christmas day at home, Horrid Henry was not happy with his presents and was bored. Their Christmas dinner all splashed on the floor before anyone could eat it. Horrid henry’s Family had no idea where they were going to get more food. Horrid Henry came up with an idea that they could start eating Christmas pudding and defrost some pizzas to eat for dinner. His dad and everyone else in the family thought it was a great idea. This made Horrid Henry very happy as it wasn’t often that his ideas were recognised for their brilliance. Horrid Henry beamed and wished everyone a merry Christmas at last!
This a good book ideally for Key stage 1. It is short and keeps children’s attention. It teaches children not to be nasty both at school and home. It also teaches them to listen to each other’s ideas and treat each other with respect.
I remember getting this thinking all my Christmas' had come out once, no pun intended. My parents had bought me this as a surprise Christmas present when I was a kid and it was one of the best presents I ever got and this book is definitely one of my favourite books out of the entire series.
The book is a lot of fun and enjoyable to entertain. but some things also get complicated. the younger father is an excellent student and he does not have a single 5. his parents scold him.
Sobib lugemiseks nooremale koolieale. :)
It was grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked how the main character reminded me of my friends. I enjoyed the dancing part, so much so, that I performed in front of my teacher. She was very impressed, I'm sure. It was too easy to read and didn't challenge me.
Some bits were pretty good but he crashed the Christmas tree. It is a funny book. There is also no Christmas cracker which was not what I was expecting.

Ok, alright. *takes a deep breath* So I just finished Horrid Henry. I know it is really embarrassing for a thirteen year old to say that she read Horrid Henry but I just wanted to re-read my childhood reads. Yeah. And I really liked this.
