A proud Catalonian perspective on Picasso's life from his birth in Malaga in October of 1881, shortly before his family relocated to Barcelona where he spent the majority of his formative years, till his death in Mougins in April of 1973. With the exception of the years in Paris, most of his life was spent near the Mediterranean, and he can be thought of as a Mediterranean artist. Journeys were also prominent in his life, as at a young age he began traveling from place to place fairly often at a time when travel was much more difficult. He was an iconoclast who worked in and pioneered a number of several art movements (inluding fine art, expressionism, cubism, proto-cubism, neo-cubism, surealism, synthetic cubism and collage to name a few, and is one of the two primary leaders of what is known as the "Paris School") in a number of genres of art including painting, drawing, print making, engraving, sculpture, set design, pottery and book illustration. He had a profound influence on 20th century art and is probably the most important artist of the century. Although a nominal Catholic who tended to be serially monogamous his life was not marked by moral rectitude, and his love interests were revolvingly the center of much of his art, as well as were the poor, the outcast and marginalized. He maintained a number of close friendships throughout his life.

I bought this at Picasso Museum Barcelona and I loved reading this after walking through most of the art mentioned in this book and connecting various events in Picasso’s life that influenced his art. It was very digestible and an insightful read!

Хорошая краткая биография Пикассо. Фокус на Барселону и Каталонию несколько преувеличен а острые углы личной жизни интеллигетно сглажены.
