Purgatory Reign was an interesting read, although it wasn’t quite everything I had expected it to be.

The premise of Purgatory Reign really grabbed my attention – it’s exactly the kind of book I love to read. I love a good paranormal read, especially when there is a good bit of mystery thrown in. Such is what Purgatory Reign promised, and for the most part such is what it gave us. However, I feel as though the story wasn’t as well done as it could have been. Don’t get me wrong, there were moments where I considered giving four stars – however, as a whole I felt as though two things prevented me from falling as deep into the book as I’d wanted to.

The first issue I had was the predictability. Whilst there were some nice twists thrown into the story, certain aspects were far too predictable. Select things had me wanting to grab the main characters and shake them for their inability to see what was before them. I’m not going to say what these things are (as nobody wishes to go into a book with complete knowledge of what happens), yet I feel as though they were far too obvious and the characters far too oblivious. It was just hard to believe that the characters were so unaware of things.

The second issue I had was with the pacing. This issue is more complicated than a mere pacing issue, but I’ll address it as such to make reviewing easier. For me, things were either too fast or too slow. The romance, for example, was much too fast. I failed to feel any real emotion in regards to this part of the story – it simply seemed to pop up out of nowhere. On the other hand, certain factors seemed to be moving much too slowly. There was so much time spent on the run that when it came to facing the evil at the end, things seemed to be skimmed over. We’d spent so much time on the build-up, that when the big events at the end came about they were glossed over.

What this amounts to is the book having the potential for amazing things, but not quite reaching it.

Because, honestly, there were some amazing aspects to this book. Mainly, it was a very original take on an overused trope. It was refreshing to see the new spins that the author added; it was nice to experience something new. Moreover, the characters were really refreshing. Rather than the too perfect characters you usually see in these types of stories, characters who only have one flaw that most wouldn’t consider a flaw, the characters in this story are more multidimensional. You see real change throughout the story, and it’s a lot of fun to watch the characters grow.

Plus, the end of the book was a lot of fun. It really left me curious as to what happens next. In fact, the end of the book left me sure the next book in the series would be much stronger.

Overall, a decent enough read, but it wasn’t quite everything I’d hope for.

Purgatory Reigns was an intriguing read with suspense, mystery, adventure, and heart-warming romance that left me wanting more.
Peter, the main character, is a rough 16 year-old with a soft side. He has gone through a lot of hard stuff including losing both of his parents and as you can read in the excerpt below, he doesn't have a lot of luck with the people around him which makes him very distant.
After something bizarre happens his guardian sends him on the run. This is where the mystery comes in because as readers we don't have a full idea of what Peter is running from and neither does he. Preston unravels this mystery at a perfect pace. It's not too fast to where I could figure out the book and it's not too slow where I get disinterested. Throughout the book I found out about this order that he's supposedly a part of but had no idea.
Throughout the book there are glimpses of the antagonists scheme. Not enough to give away what is going on or what the scheme is but just enough to give us suspense of what is about to happen to Peter and his sidekick.
Along Peter's journey he picks up a sidekick. They are both able to save each other's lives and join together in their separate survivals. Their loyalty towards each other and camaraderie was great to read because they were both lonely and in need of each other.
The romance was very sweet between Peter and Angelique. They had great chemistry and loved each other out of desperation. Both of their parents had held back many secrets of the order that they discovered together and they were able to help each other figure out the mysteries of their lives. It was great they had each other to lean on during the rough trials in the book.
I would recommend this to any paranormal romance fan especially if they are looking for something new that both guys and girls would like.

The premise of author LM Preston’s novel Purgatory Reign sounded really interesting and I was excited to begin reading the novel. I’ll admit that I was a bit hesitant seeing as how I hadn’t seen the novel around online much, but once I began reading I was quite pleased with what I found in the novel. The plot was fun, the characters were interesting and the world that the novel is set in is one that is straight up thrilling. Plus there was a ton of romance which is always nice to read about.

Purgatory Reign revolves around the adventure that main character Peter Saints embarks on when he is forced to flee by the only man he can think of as a father, Pastor Finn. Being an orphan Peter has nowhere to go and after finding out that something evil and twisted is after him, he finds himself on the road in hopes of finding the sanctuary that Pastor Finn told him about. While on his journey to find this supposedly safe haven, Peter picks up Angel, a dirty kid who has a secret that literally steal Peter’s heart: Angel isn’t really a boy, he is a girl and it doesn’t take long for Peter to fall in love with her.

Being in love does lift Peter’s spirits a little, but what quickly brings him down is the fact that the Order that had been protecting him since his mother was killed has an enemy. Not just any random enemy either, it’s a group hell-bent on summoning supernatural forces that they can only barely control and craves the one thing that Peter will not let it have: His blood. Something about Peter isn’t all that human and it brings him to meet a few characters along the way who aren’t as normal as he is. Peter faces monsters pulled straight out from people’s nightmares, learns the truth about who he is and faces the fact that if he isn’t a hero the people closest to him will suffer terribly.

The first thing that I want to talk about when it comes to Purgatory Reign is the two main characters Angel and Peter. When it came to Peter, I was actually pretty pleased with him. He wasn’t a wimp and whenever he fought, he fought in a way that was realistic to me. Peter has a short fuse, a bad attitude and a heart that feels way too much. But it’s those traits that create his character and make him one of the most unique characters I have seen as of late in YA. Angel is a lot more different than Peter since she not only is a character who turns out to be a girl (and when that was revealed, my mind was blown) but she’s also a mix of badass and the innocent love interest. She is witty, feisty and at the same time she’s still a damsel in distress. Personally, I liked Angel’s character because it’s seldom that you have female characters who are able to fight and end up needing assistance from the person they’re in love with. The damsel in distress scenario is what really had me when it came to her.

Purgatory Reign is a novel that was written in a way that I’ve never seen before, I don’t know how to put it into words, but everything is detailed in a way that made me think of Purgatory Reign as a graphic novel. I could imagine the setting, the characters and situations with such ease and found that really refreshing and for that I give Preston a high five. The novel is written with such a fast pace that you can get through it without even realising just how much you have read. I found that I loved the fact that the novel had chapters in the POV (point of view) of the villain Gavin. He was the perfect type of antagonist; sick, twisted and absolutely evil.

I would recommend Purgatory Reign to fans of the YA supernatural scene, romances and readers who are looking for a quick and fun read.

Purgatory Reign is one of those books that takes you by surprise. I have to say that I am truly amazed by how this book turned out. I loved the cover and I loved the blurb so I went into reading it with loving it already and then by the end of chapter one I was hooked. I mean I was so hooked I could not put it down and it took me six hours to read it.

Peter Saint has had a rough life. His parents were murdered right in front of him and then he holds a person in his arms as they die. What more could get worse for him? Peter now lives in an Orphanage and his adopted father protects him from all the evil that is lurking in the world that wants to destroy him. But Peter is no saint because he sneaks out of the orphanage every night and on one of those nights he watches as a girl gets hit by a car and she leaves him with something. Not sure what to do he goes back to the orphanage and tells his adoptive father. They decide that Peter and his side kick Angel whom he picked up on one of his trips will go to another sanctuary to stay safe.

If things could not get any worse Peter keeps having these night visions of things that are evil and trying to get to him. He is not sure what to make of them but the longer he is on the run the more the visions get descriptive for him. The evil wants him for something very special but Peter is not going to give the evil what they want. On the run with Angel Peter starts to piece together what is happening and he is not going to give the evil what it wants. He is determined that they will have to kill him before he unleashes that kind of evil into the world.

Peter knows that his time is ticking down but after unraveling every thing he has to make a decision that will not only effect him but his love he is a little nervous. Peter knows the wrong decision could mean life or death for a lot of people. What will Peter do? Who will he chose?

What can I say about Purgatory Reign? Go buy it as soon as possible. It is such an interesting and creative story, unlike any book I have read to date. I became captivated by each new adventure Peter embarked on. I found it fascinating the way the story unfolded and pulled me in.

Peter Saints became an orphan after witnessing his parents murders. He lives in an orphanage ran by Pastor Finn. Peter isn't much for following the rules and sneaks out after dark. On one particular evening, he ventures to town. This night changes his life forever when someone dies in his arms. The death sets off a chain reaction of events that will leave Peter running for his life.

We also meet Angel and all I can tell you is that something very unexpected happens and nearly knocked me off my seat. I will leave it at that because I do not want to spoil any surprises for you.

The evil villains, Gavin and Lucien, give me the creeps. They are terrifying and brutal in every way. Gavin is after Peter and needs him to unlock his sinister plan that would destroy mankind. I really feel a deep loathing for for both, but Gavin makes my skin crawl. I wouldn't want to meet either of them in a dark alley. I would run as fast as possible in the opposite direction and never look back.

I really enjoyed everything about Purgatory Reign. The characters were strong, but still had a vulnerabilities that made them very relatable. The story contained a new and intriguing story that kept me glued to my seat. Now I am patiently (maybe not so patiently) waiting for the next book. LM Preston I need to know what happens next.

Purgatory Reign
Book 1 in the Purgatory Reign series

Life hasn’t been kind to Peter, everything has been taken from him and he’s growing up in a secluded orphanage. One night when he goes out, a girl he knows is hit by a car and dies - then things get weird. She marks his hand, and when he confides in Pastor Finn, he’s told to run.

Not knowing what has happening, or where to go, he keeps running. After teaming up with Angel, and later Kyle, together they begin to uncover who is after them and why everyone they have ever loved has paid the price with their lives to keep them safe.

This book is the start to a great series, and I can’t wait to read more. Incredibly well written, never ending action, full of adventure and well developed characters, the reader is completely drawn into the story. Once started, I found it hard to put this book down as I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for them next. This book has enough of everything that everyone will find something they enjoy.

Purgatory Reign by L.M. Preston is a Young Adult Fiction book but I would go further and say it is a Paranormal, Thriller, Mystery, Suspense with some Action and Adventure thrown in for good measure. I was in no hurry to read the book but once I started reading the first page I was hooked and finished the book the next day. I just didn't want to put it down because there was something always happening and I was dying to find out what.

The story starts with the main character Peter Saints who is a sixteen year old that lives in an orphanage since his parents death some years before. As the story progresses we learn quite a bit about Peter as a person. He has issues trusting people, he doesn't want to get close to anyone because he thinks they will be taken from him just as his parents were, he even admits to doing things just to get the attention of Pastor Finnegan (Finn) who runs the orphanage and who he looks at as a father figure. All of these add to his character and the believability of his character since they seem to be 'normal' for what he went through. What wasn't normal about this well developed character is that he was always protected and when he snuck away from the orphanage a 'gift' was given to him from a dying friend. This gift is like no other and he often wondered if it was a curse.

Peter is told to leave the orphanage by Pastor Finn since he can't protect him any longer and he provides him with some things he will need and sent him on a journey. He meets up with Angel and then later on with Kyle. Kyle was the least developed but it seems to me the author did this intentionally. She wanted a bit of mystery around him so the reader would not know who's side he is on for sure. Kyle was the kid with the humor and his character really added to the story. Angel also had a secret that is eventually discovered. It was an interesting twist I didn't see coming. Another interesting thing is all three of them discovered that none of them have parents that are alive and they all were treated like there was something 'off' about them. Either they were sheltered and kept inside and even home schooled so they didn't have to go out or when they did go out their parents were very uneasy and always looking over their shoulder. Things they overheard their parents say even made them wonder if their parents were crazy. They also found out they had other things in common too, right down to the blood in their veins.

On their journey they discover the when, where, and why they are running from others who want to kill them. You can read what the Author wrote about the story yourself so I won't recap the whole story but I was at the edge of my seat when the enemy was close or when there was the discovery of some new information or place. The imagination and all the details with their twists and turns really kept me glued to the book. In fact, it is very hard to write a review for this story because I don't want to include any spoilers which means I can't really say a lot about it. There was something going on all the time but in order for you to understand it, I would have to explain it which means "a spoiler". I don't want to do that and ruin it for you so you will have to take my word for it, it was full of things happening, people trying to kidnap the main characters (in fact, they did kidnap one of them), new secret places being discovered or artifacts being discovered that were hidden many years ago by their ancestors, and the ever present danger of the Extraho of Obscurum being rebuilt and their "Master" bonding with a human to enact his reign of terror here on earth and beyond.

There really wasn't a lot of swearing. In fact, it was minor things. There is a 'love scene' and I use that loosely because it was short and it involved kissing and some touching with the 'desires' explained but nothing more happened. By today's standards I don't even think they would call the intense kissing a 'love scene'. There is a lot of fighting and people dying but there really is nothing detailed where it would cause concern and the fighting for the most part was justified by a ' it's either you or me' (good vs evil) scenario.

The only negative things I have to say is there a format issue that I found distracting, the LM Preston and the number was in odd places and at times even right in the middle of a sentence. (I read the Kindle Version so maybe on a Nook these were not a problem.). There were also several spelling errors, "Angel" was "Angle" and "his" was used instead of "he" in sentences such as "His kissed her" and "His bit his finger". Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing. I absolutely enjoyed this story. In fact, I loved the story!

E-book received from author for review

Another surprising YA read! I seem to be reading more and more of them lately, which by the way is always a good thing.

Purgatory Reign revolves around the MC, Peter Saints, who currently lives in a rundown parish which caters for kids pretty much in the same situation he's in. He's lost both his parents and others close to him, in an unusual twist as he later finds out when he's forced to run. He's pretty much a loner, stands up for himself as one must in a world where trust isn't easily given and seems to be in constant trouble. Most of it though, he does purposely just to get a rise out of Pastor Finn.

One particular evening when Peter is not supposed to be out, in fact he's been punished - although this little fact doesn't deter him, he once again makes his way out to attend his favourite club, Jam House. To his irritation, Hanna, a waif he'd once taken pity on, starts calling him and following him. Desperate to get away, Peter runs across the street in the hope that she's somehow prevented from 'stalking' him. She's fatally wounded, but before she dies, she leaves Peter with a burning mark on his hand. However much Peter wanted to lose her, he in no way wanted her to die and this is something he feels responsible for throughout the story. It's the reason he hates making friends or being stupid enough to rely on anyone. They all seem to die - indirectly - by his hand. They don't, it's just how he feels.

Peter is rightly no longer interested in partying, and fast tracks it back to the parish where he collides with Pastor Finn. After another earful, Peter shouts that he's killed someone. When Pastor Finn sees his hand, there is nothing for Peter but to run and he is honest in telling Peter that he's not sure who's after him, but that an order by the name of Decretum Venia has been protecting him. Evil will be after him. With provisions in hand, he must find the next Sanctuary, and the next and the next. He can't stay in one place too long. Along the way he meets a boy by the name of Angel, a scrawny kid who is always covered up even in the hottest of days. Apparently Angel suffers from anaemia. There is a surprise twist here, and one I don't really want to elaborate on so's not to spoil it.

Peter has powers, which were passed down from his parents as they belonged to the order, but then the story wouldn't be as interesting or suspenseful if it didn't contain both good and evil and that's exactly what you have here. Peter and Angel come across yet another boy, Kyle, who also seems to be a loner and ends up joining their misshappen group. Peter, Angel and Kyle have all lost their parents in the strangest manner. Is it all connected? Are they all connected?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and although it wasn't jam packed and full of action on every single page it was suspenseful. Not every story needs to be too busy. It's a story of hurt, reflection, friendship, romance and ultimately one of survival. In regards to the romance, I must say that I thought the 'revelation' and what followed happened too quickly - within a couple of sentences. As soon as Peter understood what he was seeing, he was instantly in love. This part could have and should have taken a bit longer to play out, but I do get that he's always adored and loved being around girls. Still, love (and I'm sure love at first sight does happen) or the feeling that you are in love, should take a while to simmer before it's announced. As far as the dynamic between all three main characters is concerned, it was good and I can completely see these three clicking in real life. More importantly, they have each others backs.

All in all, this was a most enjoyable book. I liked it because it was different, and I especially liked it because colour is not an issue, just as it should be. Perfect! I'd say this was appropriate from the ages of sixteen and up, although if you don't like a cuss word here and there, you may be offended. Honestly though, I'm around kids from all ages and nothing in this book isn't something I haven't heard a fourteen-year-old mutter. Good job, Ms. Preston. Oh, and I love this cover.

I'm not sure where to begin! I adored this book! It had everything I look for! I was blessed to be given an ARC copy for review, and I have to say, it makes me a bit sad that a lot of people can't read this book yet. Yes! It was that good!

When a girl dies in his arms, Peter Saints's life is really thrown through a loop. He is immediately sent on a journey that seems a bit impossible, but he is strong and determined.

Peter might be young, but he has a past that makes him seem so much older. People seem to die all around him, and like anyone else would, he fully blames himself for it. He's a bit jaded and can be a bit of a jerk at times, but you know what? I probably would be too if I were in his shoes. The best way to keep people from falling into the death trap that seems to surround you would be to scare them the heck away! The important thing is that we always know that underneath all the anger, fear, and pain, he is a great guy and a fascinating character.

Along the way, he meets a few friends, and many, MANY foes. His friends, while weak in some ways, have definite strengths, both in their actions in the book and as characters from a reader's standpoint. They are realistic enough that I could even see pieces of them in my own friends. They pull him through even though toughest scrapes. Most importantly, they both teach him things about himself and everything around him. When I pick up a book of any kind, I'm all about the life lessons! I look for these! I truly enjoyed the development of Peter's character once his friends were brought into the picture.

The world that LM Preston created is terrifying! Why? Because it's just like ours. I'm probably going to be looking at people a bit funny for a week, wondering if there's a creepy demon riding on their shoulders.

I particularly enjoyed learning about the secret societies. They were well-thought out and well-rounded. I was given enough information to not be completely lost, but not so much that I'm not genuinely curious. I finished the book hours ago, and I already want to know more.

I truly enjoyed this story. It has everything. Action that kept me on the edge of my seat, love that I found believably flawed and yet beautiful at the same time, loss that really tore at my heart, lessons that keep me thinking after I put it down, friendships that only added to the character development, and tons of intriguing paranormal story line woven in to keep me wanting more. I seriously can't wait until the next one! The wait is going to be torture!

Purgatory Reign and I started off on shaky ground. For the first thirty pages or so, the writing felt rushed and choppy. On top of that, the first sixty or so pages, the story moved really slowly. After that though, things picked up quite a bit, the writing smoothed out, and I was finally enjoying myself. By the time I‘d finished the book, I was firmly in like with the story because the concept is truly interesting, the characters are relatable and have potential, and there was a good bit of action and adventure to keep me satisfied.

The main characters, Angel and Peter develop slowly over the course of the story. In the beginning, I found Peter to be tough, closed off to the idea of establishing ties to anyone, and not likely to hope for the best. That changes as he's thrown head first into a quest about a history he knows nothing about. Along the way, he meets Angel and they slowly start to become friends and you can see that he gradually opens up and actually starts to hope for things. Angel is also tough, but has a vulnerable, fun side as well. I really liked the friendship, especially towards the beginning of the story. I really enjoyed the set up between Angel and Peter. I love that trope and I wish it were used more often. I also wish it had lasted a bit longer.

The plot was a lot of fun and I loved the concept. The author puts her own spin on the age old battle between good and evil. It was a great adventure and I was consistently intrigued by Peter’s discoveries about his parents, Pastor Finn, and everything else. It all culminated in a great way, leaving me wanting more.

I didn’t really care for the romance in this story. I thought it was a bit rushed and could have progessed at a much more natural pace. Lucky for me, everything else was enjoyable and I was more invested in the journey the characters were taking. I’m looking forward to reading more work by this author and I recommend this to those who enjoy a good adventure and story of self discovery.

Purgatory Reign is about a young boy who finds himself running from an evil that he doesn't understand or know of. With his life on the line he just keeps running from place to place hoping to find some answers. Along the way he meets Angel. Not sure if he should trust anyone or let anyone get close enough to him he decides its probably best to keep to himself. Angel has different plans. He wants to join Peter wherever he's going as long as he's not alone. Along the way they find some mysterious answers to all their questions, but really it just raises a whole lot more unknowns!
This book is set up for a sequel. You will be introduced to all the main characters and you will get a slight understanding as to what Peter, Angel, and Kyle are trying to evade. You will find that evil is lurking around and it has had years and years of hunting the blood of innocents to find and destroy all good in the world. We are banded together in this book. We get a lot more questions than answers and that's A okay with me! It's written well enough that I'm not frustrated about it. I'm actually excited about the sequel!! Me. Want. Now. :)
I thought this book was pretty cool. There is a little romance thrown in there and there were times I found their love quite charming and true to feelings of ''first love''. The friendships that LM Preston portrays are awesome! What LM Preston is really good at, is creating friendships and allowing that relationship to grow within the pages as they seek shelters to stay alive. Our main character, Peter, is a young man that has had some difficulties thrown at him all his life. It makes for a tough exterior. A hard view on the world and the people around him. He is feisty, smart, quick and deep down a teddy bear. He's a hard player when he has to be, but those barriers break down when they need to.
If you enjoy ya, angst, suspense, paranormal reads then this book is for you! I give this book my thumbs up!

I was given this book for an honest review.
This book starts with a teenage boy, Peter Saints, that is living in an orphanage and is down and out. His parents were killed years ago and is in the care of Paster Finn, the caretaker of the orphanage. Paster Finn teaches or tries to teach Peter about religion, Latin, things about Order of the Grace and fighting. Peter knows he is hiding, but he is a rebel and escapes the orphanage on occasion. He meets a girl, Hannah, and she was killed. Before she died she gave him a gift that he will need in the near future.
Plaster Finn tells him he has to run and not get caught by the people that killed his parents. On the run he meets Angel who is running also. They almost get caught at a fair in Georgia. They meet a boy, Kyle, who saves them and wants to tag along, but he is not forthcoming. Kyle has resources to help and so they all run together. The teenagers find safehouses and strongholds thanks to the gift Peter was given by Hannah.
The story switches back and forth to an evil group lead by Gavin and his brother Lucien. They do very evil acts. Because of the family lines Peter, Angel and Kyle among others were born in, Gavin can use their blood to find out secrets he and his ancestors have been searching for. Gavin wants to capture them and drain their blood for his purposes.
This book is good and a great start to a series! This story has very dark parts that I could hardly read, but they contributed to the storyline, was very well written and made it more thrilling. I loved the imaginative places and awesome powers.
The only thing that I didn't like was the whole reason they were running and the evil guys were so evil was told when I was 90% done with the book. I would have like to know before then.

When I agreed to read this book I knew nothing about it. I literally gave the synopsis a quick peek but I didn't really take it in. Can I just say that this has to be my most favourite way to read books, I seem to find the best books this way.

Preston's world building is fantastic and it draws you in from the first page, I seriously struggled to put this book down and when I had to put it down I struggled to keep my mind off it. Once this book starts up the action doesn't stop until the very end.

Peter is understandably confused when his guardian Pastor Finn sends him on the run after Hanna's death, he has no idea who he is running from or where he is running to. Peter believes that anyone who gets too close to him will also die, but he doesn't understand why. He just tries to keep people away from him. Until he meets Angel. While searching for the answers to his questions Peter makes a few friends, friends who will save his life, give him purpose and stop him from feeling alone in the world. And unlike in plenty of other books it isn't an insta-friendship. These friendships take building, take earning of trust and is believable.

The book built towards this big climax which seemed to be over really quickly, almost too quickly really. So I re-read it. Only to find that I had in actual fact skimmed some of it to find out what happened next as it was so gripping.

Put this on your TBR list because you will not be disappointed, this book has it all: Secret societies, demons, romance, friendship, danger, blood and sacrifice. You will not be disappointed.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Peter was orphaned when his family was murdered. He lives in an orphanage run by an ex-cop named Pastor Finn. Peter sneaks out whenever possible even though he has been strictly forbidden from leaving the grounds. On one such excursion, Peter is running from a homeless girl that he gave money to once. When she is hit by a car and transfers something to him, his adventure begins. Pastor Finn quickly gets him out of the orphanage and tells him to find a sanctuary where he will be protected and hidden, trust no one, there are people after him. Peter doesn't understand what is going on, but he does what the Pastor says anyways. On his journey he picks up a stray kid named Angel against his better judgement. Somehow he feels like he is supposed to protect him. They get to a sanctuary and get some info, discover some secrets, and find out they need to leave and find another. There is a society of good and one of bad. The bad is run by a man named Gavin who works for The Master. They are slowly killing off the other group and using their children's blood for evil purposes. What the Master really wants is Peter's blood, Peter is special, his blood is the key to everything. Along his journey, Peter will discover things about himself and Angel that will shock him to the core. He will have to make a decision, does the good of one outweigh the good of many? What lengths will he go to to protect the ones he loves? This book is a definite must read. Crazy twists and turns and nonstop action.

Peter Saints parents were killed and now he's living in an orphanage under the care of Paster Finn who is trying to teach Peter about religion, and being a better person. Only, he isn't succeeding very well. Peter is constantly beating up bully's who are picking on the weak.

Initially, I thought there was no hope for Peter, and he might have too much evil inside him, but later on in the book, I learn there is so much more beneath his tough exterior.

Peter meets Hannah who dies quickly after they meet, and she gives him a gift that will come in great use in the near future.

Paster Finn advises Peter to run from the people who killed his parents, and do everything he can to not get caught. While on the run, he meets another run away named Angel. While on the run, they come close to getting caught in Georgia, but are fortunately saved by Kyle. Soon, they have formed a small group of runaways until they find a safehouse.

All throughout this book, I was a bit confused as to who they were running from, someone who is so evil, and I didn't get my answer until the near end, which was frustrating. I almost felt lied to by the author, lying by omission of the evil characters.

Preston does a great job at using exceptional descriptive words that really put the pictures in your head almost like a movie. I found some parts to be a little bit to drawn out with descriptions, but overall it balanced itself out pretty well.

Overall I give this book 4.5/5. I only leave .5 off for the lengthly parts in the book that seemed to drag on a bit too long for me.

Peter Saints is not your average teenage boy. First his parents are murdered, then a young girl dies in his arms, all the while he is plagued by premonitions in the form of nightmares. Who can he trust when he doesn’t even know the truth about his past, who he is, where he came from, where he needs to go.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the history that was portrayed throughout. Who is Peter? Why is he so important? This book is very much a story about the battle between good and evil; how far would you go to discover the truth about your past... would YOU risk the lives of people that had already sworn their lives for you. My favorite part of this book is toward the end when Peter finally see’s the evil before him for what it really is, I had goose bumps.

Extremely slow in some parts and yet, I found myself still reading, wanting to know what would come of our young Peter. The setup of the story that unfolds between Peter and Angel was a bit odd for me as well. That being said, and to spite the slowness in places along the way, I anxiously await the next installment in this series. Why is that you ask.. because I see the potential not only in the storyline and characters, but in LM’s writing and the world she has created for Peter.

I give this one 3/5 stars, but that’s just my two cents!

I received this ARC copy from the author to give an honest review. I was actually pretty amazed at how quickly I got into the story. Peter is an orphan who has a tendency to get into trouble, not bad trouble just that he gets in trouble when he takes up for others. Easy way I can put that. You will see action and butt kicking from these young cats! You will learn about 2 secret orders one being the good guys (heaven) and the bad guys (hell). Peter finds himself on the run after he is marked by a girl he meets on the streets one night, and his whole world changes. He meets others that are in a way like him. Their parents were murdered, people are looking to hunt and drain them too as the evil guys want their blood. Their blood holds power and secrets that the good guys are trying to protect. Peter does not trust easy so he is very weary about the others that he has met. Will they be with him or against him? There is a war that is coming and when you read the last page in this book you will want to read more. How will this war end? Will Evil trumpet and get their wish or will Good conquer? There are twist and turns through out the book! I recommend this for YA on up!

One of the parts in the book I enjoyed was at the end when Peter grabbed the demon out of Gavin. I thought that was pretty wicked.

Rating: 3.5 stars

Peter's life has not been easy--his parents are killed in front of him, then a woman he befriends dies in his arms. He can't imagine things can get any worse, but they do... much worse.

After his parents die, a local pastor takes him in but nobody shares with him his destiny. Suddenly on the run, Peter meets friends and enemies along the way. He has to trust his gut and two friends, Angel and Kyle, who seem to have pieces to the puzzle of his life. They are all on the path to extreme evil, and time is running out.

I couldn't help but root for Peter, Angel, and Kyle. They had each suffered through horrible events and refused to go down without a fight. In addition, the story is fast-paced and intriguing, full of unexpected twists and turns. From page one, I wanted to know more--particularly what made Peter so special.

Somewhere, about one-third of the way through, I found the story a bit convoluted and sluggish. But quickly, once the plot details started to flesh out, I was reinvested in the story and racing to the finish to see what would happen. The final scenes took my breath away, and the ending suggested future installments to come.

Grab a copy of Purgatory Reign and enjoy the ride!

This is a YA paranormal adventure. I was lucky to have the opportunity to receive an ARC copy of this book. There were a lot of great things happening in this book. Along with the exciting adventure that Peter Saints there are many young adult issues that we all face. The issues are subtle but make the characters easy to relate to.
This was one of those books that I went into reading with no expectations and came out loving it. The book was action packed from beginning to end.
Peter think that he just brings death to those around him. His intentions are to journey to secret locations on his own but can’t help but make some powerful connections along the way. Searching for the truth about whom he is and what has happened to those he cares about he finds himself caught up in the world of secret orders and bad guys galore. Or should I say gore? There is enough blood, murder, and action to keep even the busiest of teenage boys interested in this story. You’re not a teenage boy you say? There is just enough romance in this book to hook any avid YA romance reader.
I can’t believe this book is not getting released until March 2013. How long will I have to wait for the next installment of this book? At least it will be worth waiting for!

I was offered this book in exchange for my review.

I wasn't sure this was going to be something I enjoyed or not. I was shocked at how incredible it was! Peter has been living in an orphange for several years after the death of his parents and to say that he is not thrilled would be an understatement. When he accidently causes the death of Hanna, it sets off a chain reaction that brings forth elements of a world he doesn't understand. People are willing to die so he can run and he is being told that he is the answer. I don't think that was explained as well as it could have been.

This is a story that delves into the darkness that surrounds us all and shows us that not everyone and everything is what they seem. It was a little slow in some places and yet I was compelled to continue reading. I was a little lost when Angel was introduced until I realized the relationship was more than it seemed. I have a feeling that Kyle is a force to be reckoned with and there may be more to him.

I will be waiting for the next book in this series. I got to the end and was hungry for more now that Peter is coming into his own.

I was asked for an honest review and here it is: Purgatory Reign is a one stop shop for me. It has intrigue, murder, deception, heartache, finding love, action, kidnapping, religion and sick and twisted bad guys.
Peter is this beautiful guy who is trying to find his place in the world. Instead he finds himself with a dead girl in his arms and getting sent away from the only place he called home since his parents death. He ends up meeting two other teens who share a messed up past like Peters and become great friends and even finds love in the process. Finding out that he is part of a secret society with a rival society after him, Peter and his friends go on the run to find answers to aide them on thier journey to stop the Evil from taking over.
LM did a wonderful job on creating kick-ass characters, definite bad guys I wouldn't want to mess with, and a great story line. I cant wait to read the next install to this series.

Kudos to you LM on creating a great read!

I was blessed enough to be given an eARC of this book in trade for an honest review.

I have to say I am saddened by this book. Only because others cannot read it yet! I will definitely be recommending this book to friends once it is available!

Purgatory Reign is a fast-paced read, brimming with adventure and excitement. It keeps you guessing on what will happen next!
There is something for everyone in this book! Action, blood & gore for the lovers of the action genre. Romance, friendships, & intrigue for the avid YA romance reader.

I couldn't put this book down! Pardon my descriptions as I was up all night reading this book and just had to write my review while it's fresh in my mind!

The world that L. M. created is real enough to relate to yet keep you questioning where is it going next? As I said I just finished this book and I already can't wait to find out more about the characters and story.

This is a Must have! Make sure to put it on your TBR list!

Purgatory Reign was a wonderful book with very real characters. Anyone who loves some fantasy/adventure YA with just a touch of romance, this is for you.

I'm going to keep this short:

All the characters were well drawn out. They all felt real and were likable.

The plot moved quickly and had a few surprises that I never saw coming.

The setting was my favorite part of the book. It was so vivid that it made the literary setting a tactile feel. Brilliantly done.

The book wasn't perfect-I wish that things were explained sooner so that I wasn't confused for the first 1/3 of the book. But it was definitely worth a read, a delightful book for anyone who likes a good fantasy/adventure YA with a sprinkle of romance.

A great Ya paranormal, this book is full of action, adventure and great for any age.
Peter has nothing in life, no friends or parents. They only person that even comes close is Pastor Finn. One day everything gets even worst, Hannah dies in his arms and gives him the "gift". There starts Peter's life on the run, but he has no idea of why he has to run. Or what is after him since pastor Finn never lets him go out. Peter finds two unlikely allies in Angel and Kyle. In the search for answers Peter finds love, friendship and that he is they maybe part of the key to ending a war that has been going on for centuries. The character strength emerged from the live they had no choice but to run away from.

From having read Bandits, I knew LM Preston could nail male POV, and she does exactly that in Purgatory Reign. Peter is a character that you root for right from the start. He's had a really tough life, and just about everyone around him winds up dead. But then he's given a gift, although he sees it as a curse, at least a first, and it sends him running for his life.

The action scenes are really well done, keeping tensions high and the pace quick. Peter's relationships with Angel and later Kyle are fully developed with lots of twists. While I did predict one big twist, it didn't take away from the story at all.

The books does stand on its own, but it definitely implies there will be a sequel, one I'm looking forward to reading.

Read and reviewed by 16yr old my daughter
A story I have never read before. I love how original and unique the whole book is. The plot
and unanswered questions that surrounded the kids till the very end had me wanting more.
Speaking of the main characters, each one of them had a different backstory. None was reused
or boring in any way.
Though the whole giant angels and their history confused me, and I'm not a big fan of
the romance that went own with Peter and Angel. I still consider "Purgatory Reign" as the most unique
and one of my favorites.

Angelic Order vs Demonic Order

I gave this book a rating of 5 because I loved it. I loved depth of the descriptions of sanctuaries. It amazed me how the sanctuaries reacted to Peter's blood. I also loved how Peter's and Angelica's love was described: like it was stronger than any other emotion that they felt and that they were meant to be together. This book has lots of twists and turns. I recommend this book to anyone that loves reading books about angels and demons.
