Tragedy can strike in the blink of an eye, as Cindy Preston is all too aware. As she struggles to cope with the loss of her job, death and destruction are unfolding around her. At her new temp assignment she quickly discovers that something sinister happened to the woman she’s replaced. Meanwhile, Rabbi Jeremiah Silverman and Detective Mark Walters are left picking up the pieces when one of their own is viciously attacked. Now it’s a race against time to find three different killers before more innocent lives are shattered.

Things start off hoping in COMFORT ME! Now that Cindy is out of a job at her church she is workeing for a temp agency. Much to her dismay her latest job has landed her with a less than desirable boss and the mysterious disappearance of the girl she has replaced.
Meanwhile Mark and Jeremiah are trying to find out who put Mark's partner Liam in the hospital barely clinging to life.
Once again an exciting read in this fantastic series! If you have been waiting for this latest book, you will not be disappointed and you definitely will be left wanting more, and like Mark you will be sleep deprived because I guarantee that you will not want to put this one down until you finish it!
One of the great things about Comfort Me and other books in this Psalm 23 series is how many mysteries and sagas Ms. Viguié can have going on at the same time. Jeremiah and Cindy's relationship takes a step forward, Mark deals with not one, but two recurring issues, and we get a closer look at Liam, Mark's new partner. All with plenty of heart-pounding suspense, romance, and great uncertainty. Well worth the read!!
My only complaint was that it didn't seem long enough. I tried to pace myself so it would last longer but wasn't very successful. This is one of my favorite series ever and this one has two mysteries to solve. I will be so sad when the series ends.
When it comes to a mystery by Debbie Viguie, I always expect a fast-paced, character driven story that is impossible to put down. She definitely delivers that with this latest installment of the Psalm 23 Mysteries. I love that in each book, the characters show growth and each crime is unique and fresh. As the middle book of an anticipated 23 book series, this book does not disappoint.
Cindy knows leaving her job at the church was the right thing to do, since she knows God has plans for her and Jeremiah and the pastor standing between them just makes things complicated. Even knowing that though, she hates her job at the temp agency. Never knowing where she'll be for the week is starting take a toll, and its not easy on Jeremiah either. But now she's filling in for a secretary until they find a replacement, which is minimum 4-6 weeks. It's going to be a long placement though, since she can't stand the new office. Plus something seems wrong about the whole thing, the former secretary Rose left all her personal things behind, which doesn't seem like someone would willingly do. Then she meets Beau, who was in love with Rose although never got around to telling her. He says there's no way she would do that, and he hasn't been able to contact her at all. Meanwhile, Mark is heading to a crime scene when he discovers that his partner Liam has been brutally attacked and left for dead, right outside of his new girlfriend Rebecca's store. In between trying to solve that case and the murder of two parents with an antique baseball bat, he has his hands full. He knows he can't lose another partner, since he's still over losing the last one, but how can he help when Liam insists on no cops? I liked this book as well, although there were so many different storylines it was hard to keep track of which one they were on. I really liked that we finally found out a bit more about Not Paul, and saw Jeremiah and Cindy get even closer.
I am discovering that I like the mysteries in this series better where a book holds one longer, involved mystery, rather than separate mysteries for each of the main characters to solve. In this one, Cindy is solving her temp job mystery, Mark is solving the baseball bat mystery, and Jeremiah is solving the mystery of Liam's attacker.
I knew the answer to all three whodunits, which is why I prefer a book of a single mystery rather than a book of mini-mysteries, even if they were all intertwined. When there are three, there isn't as much time to delve as deeply into as many suspects for each, or to follow very many clues in each of the three directions, which makes the individual mysteries themselves more obvious.
Someone else said it was more confusing to have three mysteries to solve, rather than simpler, though, so opinions vary.
I had hoped that Wildeman would finally get whatever's bothering him off his chest, but nope, or at least not a conversation we hear.
I feel like something should be said about the autistic child, but I don't know exactly what. I know some people would consider that to be a misrepresentation of autism, but I also know that there are people on the severe end of the spectrum.
Someone else commented that Jeremiah & Cindy's engagement is too long. I'll leave that thought here for consideration, but I won't really agree or disagree - just something to consider when planning a wedding.
Cindy finds herself working odd-jobs as a secretary through a temp agency after she is jobless for becoming engaged to Jeremiah. She hates it, and she hates the way secretaries are taken for granted and belittled. As she works in her newest temporary position, likely to be several weeks instead of just a few days, she gets the suspicion that the woman she is replacing has had something bad happen to her. She wonders if she's just being paranoid. Meanwhile, Jeremiah and Mark are working to solve a different kind of mystery... who would attack Mark's partner and why? There's also a mystery of who killed an autistic child's parents. I could have lived with toned-down romance and I can't figure out for the life of me why anyone would want nearly a two-year engagement. I enjoyed the mysteries and character development. Some of Cindy's habits from earlier books in this series reappear. Mark makes more discoveries about his former partner, Paul. I can't wait for the author to finish the series.
This series is very easy to read - and VERY hard to put down. I purchased the first two in the series, but have been getting them from the library for the last few years. Sadly, this is the last one in their collection. I may have to actually buy the next few.
As always, we are left with a real cliff-hanger.
Cindy and Jeremiah are engaged and that has caused trouble at her church. Her pastor fired her telling her that an interfaith marriage was a "deal breaker" for him. So she has been working for a temp agency while searching for a permanent job and hasn't liked it at all. Liam and Rebecca seem well matched, but someone is stalking her and Liam is badly beaten by an unknown assailant. Poor Mark is at wits end from lack of sleep with the twins at home. Then he is called into a violent murder scene where the prime suspect is the autistic son of the victims.
So much activity and action! When does it end? How can you NOT turn the page and continue reading?
I pre-ordered all the remaining books, which is why I may have gotten this one early.
She does not disappoint in this book.
And more mysteries are added to mysteries. I won't put any spoilers here.
If you are interested I've started a FB page Fans of Psalm 23 mysteries, if you would like to search out clues and comment. It will only have a few people on it. Spoilers will be freely discussed on the page.
Every book in this series is face paced, suspenseful and a very quick read. You really need to read this series in order or a lot of what is going on will be meaningless. Looking forward to the next installment.
I really enjoyed the book. The twists and turns kept me in suspense. The ending assures me there will be more to come. I have really enjoyed this series. Thank you for giving me so much pleasure.
I really enjoy this series, and was happy to see yet another one come out. This one was very fast paced, and I got to the ending way too fast. Unfortunately, the book had a major cliff hanger ending, so hopefully the next book isn't too far off
The 13th book in this series seemed short to me, even though it must be the same length as the others before it! I didn't want it to end... but thankfully, the stories within the story continue onto the next and the next and the next -- and masterfully, I might add! Now, onto #14!
Storyline felt rushed, but it was still a good read. The punctuation is still atrocious, and there's more curse words in this one than necessary. There's zero need for curse words in a book, let alone in a Christian book. It's a bit unsettling. Frankly, I'll be glad to be finished with the series.
The stories just keep getting better. Cindy discovers mystery at her temp job. Lain and Rebecca are having problems, Jeremiah is going crazy trying to keep.everyone safe and Mark finds out more about Paul.
One of my favorite series, each book gets better and better. I hold my breath waiting for the next book and then can't put it down when it arrives. So then I am holding my breath again waiting, it's a vicious and wonderful cycle! :) With each release the characters get more in-depth and there is more and more to discover about them.
I am still in love with these characters 13 books in. At the heart of any story is how believable the characters in the situations they are facing. These characters show a range of emotions with each looking for their balance and strength in each other no matter what the situation. Paul's mystery keeps us looking for answers but Cindy, Jeremiah, Mark and Traci and all the others keep us coming back book after book.
This is book thirteen in The Psalm 23 Mysteries. I have read and loved the previous twelve books, and was not so patiently waiting for this one to be released. These characters have really become like friends to me, I enjoy each time I get to dive into their world. And this one did not let me down. Yes 13 seems like a lot of books, but just like a TV series there is an ongoing storyline that carries across the books plus storylines that are unique to each one. Every crime is different and doesn’t feel something we’ve experienced before. Ms. Viguie sure knows how to keep readers hooked, each chapter ended in a cliff-hanger that made it almost impossible to put the book down until you got to the end. Even then it ends with a cliff-hanger compelling you to read the next. I do have to say, I would not recommend starting the series here, you really need to read from book 1 to fully understand the ongoing storyline and characters. A couple comments I kept repeating to myself while reading were – Liam has to be good! And second - 20 months! Why so long? Complete review on my blog at: http://cjaneread.blogspot.ca/2017/02/...
