Jennie Lucas

Jennie Lucas had a tragic beginning for any would-be writer: a very happy childhood. Her parents owned a bookstore, and she grew up surrounded by books, dreaming about faraway lands. Her mother read aloud to her in French when she was little; when she was ten, her father secretly paid her a dollar for every classic novel (Jane Eyre, War and Peace) that she read. As a chubby teenager, Jennie covered her bedroom with travel posters and always had her nose in a book.

At fifteen, she went to a Connecticut boarding school on scholarship. She took her first solo trip to Europe at sixteen, then put off college and traveled around the U.S., supporting herself with jobs as diverse as gas station cashier and newspaper advertising assistant.

At 22, she met the man who would be her husband. For the first time in her life, she wanted to stay in one place, as long as she could be with him. After their marriage, she graduated from Kent State University with a degree in English, and started writing books a year later.

Jennie was a finalist in the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart contest in 2003 and won the award in 2005. A fellow 2003 finalist, Australian author Trish Morey, read Jennie’s writing and told her that she should write for Harlequin Presents. It seemed like too big a dream, but Jennie took a deep breath and went for it. A year later, after seven years of writing and eight finished manuscripts, Jennie got the magical call from London that turned her into a published author.

Since then, life has been hectic, juggling a writing career, a sexy husband and two young children, but Jennie loves her crazy, chaotic life. Who needs a clean house? Every day, Jennie gets swept into drama, glamour and passion. Now if she can only figure out how to pack up her family and live in all the places she’s writing about!

Another fabulous book by Jennie Lucas.

Fantastic story line with engaging mc's, great dialogue and gorgeous settings..my favourite being the dark and looming castle in Cornwall, where the hero and heroine first meet....

Loved watching the sarcastic and cruel hero turning into a love crazed man as he gets to know the real person underneath the facade the heroine shows the world.

Beautifully written from 1st person POV...the heroine! You really get into her head and makes you understand who she really is.

I love this author and can't wait for her next book.

Oh my goodness. So far this is so much fun.

What we have is sweet heroine in a Rebecca meets Beauty and the Beast scenario and when I say "beast" I really mean asshole. Fun times are ahead if Miss Jennie Lucas can keep this up.

Review
It got a little rocky there with a too-stupid-to-live moment by the heroine, but we all got through it.

The h has come to be Edward St Cyr's physiotherapist. Apparently while kidnapping a married woman and her baby, yes KIDNAPPING, in a previous book, St. Cyr was in an accident and now needs lots of therapy. Physical but psychological therapy and even a little spiritual therapy would not be amiss either. Edward is awful to the h. He helpfully reminds her that when he first met her he had warned her that her boyfriend would stray. He did. To her step-sister. He challenges her to stand up for herself. He propositions her. He propositions her again. He is an all around big fat jerk, but he is a big fat jerk with rugged charm and lots of rough edges.

Then her step-sister and new fiancee aka ex-boyfriend of the h shows up at the manor, and the h finds her inner spine. I suppose all spines are "inner", but you know what I mean. The scene is hysterical, and the resident bad boy sits back and enjoys the scene.

Their affair is good to go, and it's pretty naughty. Then feelings happen, and it's kind of sad. Edward turns back into the non-fun kind, very non-charming jerk so the h leaves Cornwall.

St. Cyr follows and grovels. Then the h is an idiot for a brief moment, but the story gets back on track.

The inane behavior, poor decisions and ridiculous misunderstandings that populate most HP's are kept to a minimum, while the heroine's inner musings, banter with the H and the bad-boy-and-happyto-be-one hero are refreshing.

Incredible. Passionate. Poignant. A love story so powerful and sweet and erotic it had my heart pounding. The hero specifically is an amazing man. He loved the heroine truly madly deeply and was ready to sacrifice anything for her! He was jealous, dedicated and passionate. What a dreamy hero! There were many times I wanted to slap the heroine for pushing him away but she redeemed herself towards the end! Their HEA melted my heart!

One of the most romantic, angsty and passionate books I've ever read!

When I saw that Edward was getting a book,I wondered how Jennie Lucas would redeem him, after all he was the "villian" in a prior book .Well, the author did a marvelous job with his redemption and I felt for Edward. The heroine,Diana, was perfect for him. Each hurt by love in the past, these two were the perfect match together.Lovely angsty read that I enjoyed by one of my fav HP authors.I choked up a few times towards the end,I can see myself reading this book again.

This is closer to a 2 1/2 star rating than a three, not because it was boring, but because I think the author had too much going on, the pacing was way off, and it was told in a flippant first person narrative that leeched the emotion out of so many scenes.

So - too much going on. The story is covers the H/h relationship from the first time they meet to their semi-secret baby to the wedding. Just the break up in the middle with the pregnant heroine's attempts to make up with her sister and ex while pursuing her dream of acting would have been enough for one story. Or their first meeting and the hero overcoming his injuries (physical and emotional) could have been enough for yet another story. Or the heroine trying to live with a billionaire businessman while licking her wounds from a public breakup. There were so many elements of angst in this story that were never explored in depth.

Which brings me to pacing. Her months with the hero in the castle whizzed by. As did the holidays when they were getting along, as did her futile attempts to audition in London while hero feuded with his cousin, as did her pregnancy. It felt like reading an outline.

Maybe it was the first person narration that fueled the fast pace? All of that telling and not a lot of dialogue? Whatever it was, there were some good scenes, but this wasn't the intense emotional read I was craving.

I think mine is a minority opinion, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of reading this. A lot of people enjoyed this one a lot.

Oh my goodness, I loved this book more than the first one with Lena and Alejandro!

Edward actually turned into a decent man, I think in part due to his feelings for Diana. It's understandable, after reading his story, why he was the way he was with Lena.

Edward turned into a wonderfully romantic character. He showed Diana in many ways how much she meant to him. What a sweet love story. I enjoyed how they weren't at each other's throats through the entire book. I liked their competition with each other.

Very, very sweet story and just another example of why I enjoy Jennie Lucas books so much!

Nine Months to Redeem Him is why I read HPs. Its the kind of romance that has that fairytale element.

The hero, broken by a bad childhood, puts up barriers to love. The heroine, wanting family, finds hurt from it. When the heroine and hero meet its the beginning of an angsty journey to happy ever after as both work thru the past to achieve happiness.

I really enjoyed reading this journey to HEA. Even the hormonally driven heroine's irrationality towards the end. The break up scene was gut wrenching. It had me thinking of Robyn Donald's Smoke in the Wind when the heroine's cousin comes calling to her house with the hero she married. So angsty.

A keeper I know I'll be re-reading.

"It turned out I didn’t need to be a movie star. I didn’t need to be famous or rich. I just needed to be loved, and to be brave enough to love back with all my heart.
People can change, Howard told me once. Sometimes for better than you can imagine.
He was right. Real life can be better than any dream. And it’s happening, right now, all around us."

This book has the perfect ending! I love it. Edward St. Cyr was the typical HP hero but I love how he was redeemed. There were many times I wanted to slap him for being rude, especially at the first chapters but you'll surely love him in the end!

Now waiting for another Jennie Lucas book....

***4.25 Stars***

This story was a bit different than the average HP and I really, really liked and enjoyed it. I've never read an ending similar to this one and it made the book quite special. Since I read the previous book, 'Uncovering Her Nine Month Secret' in which this hero had a part as the villain, I was unsure if he could change my mind about him.

Our hero, Edward St Cyr, is recovering from a terrible accident that almost took his life. In the previous book, Edward was a villain obsessed with a woman, Lena, that he had helped keep safe when she was pregnant and running from the baby's daddy because of lies told to her. To Lena, he was only a friend but Edward had fallen in love with her, obsessed with her, and tried to kidnap and blackmail her into leaving her baby and baby daddy to be with him. He had the gall to try and convince the young woman to give her child up for adoption because he was not happy having a squalling infant around. That is how he was injured. He was trying to drive off with her, swerved to miss someone, ran into a fountain, and rolled the vehicle down a hill/mountain flipping four times.

In this book, our heroine, Diana, has been hired to be Edward St Cyr's live-in physical therapist. He is a cold man, brutally honest and despises love and relationships. The only thing he can offer is sex, albeit great sex, but then it's usually over within weeks because he refuses to place himself in a situation where he could possibly fall in love.

You begin to see that things are different with Diana. She has been at his home for two months and they have become friends of a sort and he is pressing for more. She gives in and they spend a couple more months together. By now she loves him. She gave him her body, which he wanted. She gave him her heart, which he did not! She finally tells him how she feels and is also trying to tell him she's pregnant but after she says the love word he begins freaking and kicks her out, telling her it is past time for her to leave. As she tries to tell him about the baby he walks out and won't listen. He has his jet deliver her back to Hollywood where her family lived and where she had once wanted to work in films but quit because her mother was dying.

I enjoyed watching Edward fall for Diana even though he claimed he didn't. It was sweet to watch him and her, both, act like teenagers in the midst of first love, playful, funny, and teasing. It was so unlike him and you could see the changes taking place...but Edward couldn't or wouldn't admit to it.

I definitely recommend this book.

Saftey Factors: For the most part this is a safe book. There was no cheating or no ow/om involved during the proverbial separation. The hero did speak of the other women he had delivered to his doorstep for a night of passion and since he is laid up from a very serious accident he told the heroine exactly what position was used to accomplish the act the previous evening. Nothing happened with any other woman or man once the heroine arrived as his physical therapist.

This was a wonderfully angsty read for me. From Diana's heartbreaking betrayal by her sister and Diana's boyfriend (leaving her embarrassed & heartbroken, without much self confidence left), to the harshness she endured from Edward's demeanor while employed by him. Edward was negative and distant, refusing to ever fall in love again after being burned so severely by his past love. It was fun experiencing Edward thaw out slightly during this story, as well as seeing Diana begin to give her heart to Edward against both of their wishes and better judgements. This story gave me all the feels I could possibly want from a distant, arrogant and gorgeous hero constantly throwing mean barbs, and a sweetheart therapist who was way too kind for her own good, falling for her gorgeous employer who she knows could never love her. I also enjoyed Dianna's manipulative skank whore sister in this story too. She added quite a bit more angst with her betrayal. I enjoyed the entire story from the very beginning to the very end.

I just reread this but I gave it one more star. It really got to me. I mean how can an author take such a bad person and make them into a hero? But she did. Now at first he was no H. And he was pretty cold throughout the book. But I could tell he loved her. You just felt it. And when he rejected her you felt that too. I would definitely read these in order so you understand what is going on. The ending was very satisfying and I ended up loving the book. He does talk about some hookups he had during his recovery when she first meets him(which I felt were not needed and pretty disgusting), but after that there are no other women mentioned again. It is written in First Person so you only know her thoughts and never get to peek inside his head. But all around a very good book. I ended up liking him too which I thought would never happen. He was in love with the heroine from the first book supposedly but I never felt that really. He was bitter and it definitely made him meaner to the h. But it all comes together.

While I found this book wildly romantic and swoonworthy, it was a little too uneven for me. The H says and does things that are hard to come back from. When he realizes he was wrong, he just doesn't seem to know how to make it right again. The h is a recovering doormat who holds onto her anger for too long. The secondary characters (step dad, step sister) were written as uncaring and mean, and then did a 180 and changed into loving people.

The book is fun and romantic but I had to shake my head a time or two.

DNF @17% - everything is *off* for me in this one - 1st person narrative - the H was already so obsessed with another woman that he kidnapped this pregnant OW away from her husband and he’s still brooding about it now that the whole fiasco ended in a crash that left his body broken… fantastic… and the h, she’s a physiotherapist (who really wants to be an actress), and a 28 year old virgin… this is just thrown out there like it’s no biggie, even though she has had a serious boyfriend. And the physiotherapist/actress also spent time as a personal assistant to her super beautiful actress sister who stole her man… something the hero warned her about implying that she couldn’t compete with the raving beauty 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 I don’t know, normally I like an asshole reluctant hero and a virgin heroine but something isn’t jiving. The tone is all weird and there’s too much going on and it’s all the wrong things 🤣

For all that our H is a VERY NAUGHTY boy who is very lucky to get a HEA with his own h. I liked him more than the H from the first book tbh.
The book picks up not long after the first book finishes and our H is moping around, drinking tons and kind of feeling sorry for himself (although also having lots of pillow friends too).

The h is a total wussy doormat who lets her family totally walk over her and steal her boyfriend and she is a virgin at 28 having never even being really kissed, and shes surprised that her actor boyfriend cheated on her with her step sister?

There is kind of insta attraction between them but as shes his physio she keeps it professional and he kind of respects it enough for them to develop a friendship. He even pretends to be her boyfriend when the stepsister and ex turn up.

His recovery is going well enough for him to jokingly fire her to keep her professionalism when shes ready to jump into bed with him and he doesn't lead her on in anyway, he's been really badly burned in the past by his horrible parents and the h from the first book. His recovery is a HP kind of recovery though because despite falling off a treadmill and hurting himself pushing his recovery too hard he is fine 2 mins later to sweep the h off her feet and carry her to bed and all without the broken arm, ribs and dislocated shoulder bothering him (to mention nothing of the leg).

He totally ran when the h declared her love so he deserved his suffering when she went back to the US but I adored how he showed his love without saying it. It was obvious. I also kind of liked the epilogue where he had given up a load of his wealth and they were just happy together. I think it would have been a nice touch for him to acknowledge now that he had found love and a family of his own how wrong he was to do what he did in the first book.

This is the story of Edward, who is kind of a villain in the first book in this duet. This is written in the heroine's 1st person POV also.
The heroine has been offered a job as a physiotherapist in a gloomy castle in Cornwall. Very dark and stormy night scenario. The hero is recuperating from a bad accident which occurred in the last book. He is bitter and a self declared not nice person.

Diana is still reeling from the betrayal of her glamorous sister Madison with Diana's new boyfriend. It blew up dramatically and she is fleeing from the paparazzi interest.

Edward didn't look a likely hero in the last book. More like an obsessive stalker, but when the title includes the words "Redeem Him" it suggests we might come to see a better side to him.

He and Diana go head to head over his rehabilitation. He is determined to get better fast because he has relatives breathing down his neck over the family business.

It's no spoiler that it leads to more and to a pregnancy. And that's where the story really picks up. I really enjoyed the ending of the story in spite of at least one TSTL moment from the heroine.

Both books were very similar in theme but they were different enough to be complementary rather than repetitive. A good reliable author.

I loved how Jennie Lucas took the "villian" from "Uncovering Her Nine Months Secret" and redeemed him. Edward was so dark, angry and broken at the beginning of this book and became so loving. In my opinion I always felt that he was a good guy underneath, in the first book, because of all the stuff he did do for the heroine in "Uncovering Her Nine Months Secret." We finally get to see that good guy that was there all along.

Omg this book was awesome!!!! Wow what a great story of redemption. He was so worthy of her at the end I fell for him. I have never read a book where I felt like this. He was such a jerk in the first story "uncovering her nine month secret" by Jennie and the beginning of this book. I really felt there was no way he could be a good hero. He was more then good he was awesome. A must read.

Nine Months to Redeem Him by Jennie Lucas is a well written romance with the pregnancy plot. The story is written in first person with the heroine,Diana as the narrator. Edward St. Cyr was introduced in Uncovering Her Nine Month Secret by Jennie Lucas and I was excited to read his side of story in this one. He is a dark, cold hearted hero who does not believe in love anymore and does not allow himself to care about that emotion. At the start he was quite rude and cynical but towards the end I loved how he redeemed himself when he got to know about the heroine’s pregnancy. Diana has been burned before and she does not want to risk her heart again. After playing safe and following rules all her life and still getting betrayed by the people she trusted, she decides to let herself loose and have a fling with Edward. The romance was intense, passionate and starts out as a purely physical relationship. The characters have been friends for two months before they finally get into the friends with benefits part. There was angst but it was not that overpowering.
He gave me a crooked grin, then looked away. “But I always imagined love to be an action, not a word. If I loved someone, I wouldn’t say it, I’d show it. I’d take care of her, putting her needs ahead of my own. I’d put my whole soul into making her happy… .”
Overall, Nine Months to Redeem Him by Jennie Lucas is a well written intense romance and is for everyone who likes sexy alpha heroes who need the right woman to make their heart beat again!Read More

Sebenarnya nih novel mau cerita apa sih?

Plintat-plintut semuanya. Karakternya plin-plan, plotnya juga maju mundur.

Diana ini katanya seorang terapis fisik, tapi belakangan mau audisi panggung. Puyeng dah gw!!!

Katanya Diana kekeuh mempertahankan keperawanannya. Dirayu digocek dikit sama Edward, langsung klepek-klepek dan malah menyerahkan keperawanannya yg berharga. Hadeuh!!!

Edward katanya ogah berkomitmen, apalagi komitmen paksa dgn manipulasi. Tapi tahu Diana hamil, Edward tanpa pikir panjang langsung memaksa Diana utk menikah. Weleh!!!!

Terakhir, kalau mau menikah aja masih banyak keraguan dan ketidakpercayaan, malah mewek-mewek nangis ala sinetron, ngapain juga menikah? Masa sampai hrs diyakinkan saudarinya yg ex pengkhianat pula? Bodoh kuadrat ini namanya.

Udah deh, nih novel bukan tipe saya kecuali Anda fans harlequin romance total drama.

Hero to die for, heroine to cheer for, love story to make me cry, moody moors and rugged ruthlessness, writing with warmth and personality

My first impression was that the 1st person narrative felt strange and I was afraid it was going to distance me. But not for long. Soon I was absorbed in the heroine's character and personality, and if anything it drew me in more.

I loved the prologue, and how it creates PTQ, not that I wouldn't have turned the pages anyway as I couldn't put it down. I adored the oldfashioned advice book the heroine is reading, and the mention of Wuthering Heights etc which all contributes to the atmosphere.

Despite my second impression, which was suspicion of the writer’s Cornwall (which I know like the back of my hand) I really loved the gothic darkness of the Cornish castle setting, despite a few niggles, not annoying enough to spoil my overall enjoyment or detract from my five star plus rating.

Love the oldfashionedness of the outrageously dark hero (I adore outrageous heroes) and really enjoyed not being in the hero’s head. The clues to him and how he’s feeling are all there so you really have to pay attention to what he says and does…and what he doesn't. But believe me paying close attention to Edward St Cyr is no hardship....

The snowy gothicness is redolent of old Anne Mather’s, such as Leopard in the Snow complete with wounded hero and gym, no leopards, but a gorgeous sheepdog (just to make me extra happy), and of Sara Craven’s Cornish manorhouse settings and non-Hero-pov stories. Fans of these authors will love this. But the setting, only-heroine point-of-view etc is given a fresh twist by the contemporariness of her family background, the US setting and by the author's fabulous writing voice which has so much warmth and personality and is what makes this first person romance such a success.

The ending is absolutely beautiful and made me cry.

My favourite Jennie Lucas, one for my keeper shelf and a definite re-read. I believe Jennie has written a previous book in first person with Edward St Cyr as the villain…which I'm off to find now.

five star plus

Stunning, fantastic and mind blowing!!!!

First of all, what surprised me was the first person story. It was something rarely seen on HP and was really effective in this book. Secondly, the fact that Edward, the villian in "Uncovering her nine month secret", could have his own story.

I started reading this book hating Edward (for his role in "Uncovering her nine month secret") and the author really convince me that he could be a hero. One of the best I've ever read. She sold that (Edward as a hero after being the villian) and I bought it and I'm a satisfied costumer. About the heroine, I have to say that she deserved a huge slap in her face sometimes, but she redeemed espectaculary. I will adjudicate her behavior to the hormones :D because she was a perfect heroine for a dark, arrogant and jealous person like Edward. Their chemistry together is the burning pages type and their interactions were great. The HEA ending was idyllic. But it was the prologue what really got me.

A smart writing and a story well developed, I love this book and that's why JL is one of my Fetish Authors.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the same book. The books I love, you may hate. The books I can't stand, you may love. With that being said I found this book torture to finish. The heroine is weak, and has no self esteem. She quotes, quotes from a book by Mrs. Warreldy - Gribbley that was written in 1915. The quotes got annoying. The story line itself was not that bad, but it was written in 1st person.

Diana went to be Edwards personal physical therapist. Edward had been in a car crash, and could only walk with a Cain. The two spent a lot of time in the gym. Diana was a virgin, and being that close to a sexy man, her hormones were out of control. It didn't take long for the two to fall into bed. Edward had been hurt in the past by someone he loved. Now he is cold at times. He changed throughout the story, because Diana healed his body, and his soul.

I was able to finish the book, so I am giving this story 2 stars. I hate giving low ratings, and does not happen often. I just found this book torture to read, and get through.

There was a point in the book where it almost picked up, rather a scene and not a point. I had laughed out loud and poured myself another cuppa joe hoping to sit through the book for another half hour. Sorry, failed. The H was not at all an alpha and the h who was 28 and a virgin was a little too standoffish.

The H was truly warming up to the h and he was a tender, caring lover but the h kept pushing him away. In all honesty I doubt I could ever really fall in love with a h or an H who’s an actor, unless they give up acting! I didn’t even feel any sparks between the h and H and the step sister was super annoying. How do people let other such people bully them for the longest time and not stand up to it! Wallowing in misery when you have a hot billionaire love you so passionately is beyond me!

description
but dont fall for it he said countless times that he can't and wont love another woman.. yeah dude... you're doing great.. keep thinking that its really working for you.
The only thing i didnt like was that at the end we didnt get to find out the whole story about the misterious woman from Spain. Why keep talking about her the whole book if at the end you dont tell the story...

The whole story had a lot of 'rushed' scenes. I don't know if it was my mood or it was because I don't like to read books told in third person :/
