After leaving his one-horse hometown in the dust, Aussie Colin Carlyle is enjoying the good life in a beautiful seaside resort in southern Thailand. His carefree world turns upside down, though, when a comatose woman washes up on his boat. Meanwhile, in the sultry metropolis of Miami, Florida, Thoroughbred trainer Evan Williams is taking the world of horse racing by storm. To the public eye, he has it all – charisma, wealth, and a skyrocketing career. Only his best friend, news journalist Melanie Bishop, understands the man behind the fanfare. Like Evan, she too is well-acquainted with the sting of heartbreak. She’s tasted the bitterness of a failed romance and has no intention of trusting a man again. So it’s clear that her plan has gone terribly wrong the morning she wakes up beside Evan...
Separated by a distance of ten-thousand miles, these two stories appear to have nothing in common. But when their paths cross in a most unusual way, it sets in motion a chain of events that will challenge everything they thought they knew about themselves. Dead Heat explores the true meaning of loyalty, love, and sacrifice.
Writing has always been my passion. I was hooked from the time I won the third-grade writing contest for my story about Nita, a very sophisticated and well-traveled peacock. By high school, my stories had developed into murder mysteries starring my (mostly!) understanding classmates. These days, my writing focuses on relationships and explores the endless intricacies of family, loyalty, and love.
I was born and raised in the tropical sprawl of South Florida, surrounded by beaches, horses, and lots of sunshine. Before becoming a full-time writer, I worked as a bartender and a massage therapist. In recent years, my wanderlust has taken me all over the world, and I've traveled extensively throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. When I'm not busy writing, I spend my time snowboarding, horseback riding, hiking with my husband and husky, or planning our next voyage abroad.
I must say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I'll be honest, the cover put me off to start with, and all of the main characters were just too "good", but as I got into the story (which had a decent mystery element to it) I found that I did care about them and wanted to know how the story ended. Perfect for anyone who enjoys a good love story.
Horses, horse racing, romance, twists and turns, adventure ... the book had it all. I took Dead Heat on vacation and it was the perfect travel companion. I really enjoyed Amy Elizabeth's other books too beginning with Cut and Run. If you like horse books with an interesting story and clean romance you'll enjoy Amy's books. - Carly Kade, Author of In The Reins
This was an amazing booked with well developed characters and a complex intertwining story. It is well worth the read and I will definitely be following this author.
Dead Heat by Amy Elizabeth is a unique tale of two male and female pairs – one is based in the US and the other in Thailand. There is a horsey aspect found with the US pair, Melanie and Evan as the close friends work to navigate life and the loneliness that has found them at thirty years of age. The pair have been friends for more than a decade and share an incredible loss.
This book had me hooked after just a few pages. The characters are easy to love and they each have their own unique personality that the author brings out brilliantly. As the story unfolded, I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. This book truly created a movie in my mind, which is what I hope to find in each book I read.
Dead Heat tells of the connection between two couples on opposite sides of the globe.
At first not sure if she’s dead or alive, Colin finds an unconscious Kate on his boat. He takes her in and nurses her back to health. Anxious to find out who this mysterious woman is, he is bewildered to learn she has no idea who she is. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, good friends Melanie and Evan are falling for each other. You’ll be surprised to find out how the lives of these couples are connected.
The narrative was good. I was able to imagine the surroundings. The author made a good use of dialogue, and gave enough background of the characters to make them relatable, but not enough to bore. I liked the way the story bounced between the two locations without leaving the readers feeling abandoned.
There were a couple of times that the pace seemed to get rather slow to me, but it wasn’t enough to curtail my reading. The secondary characters played their part beautifully. The author made them interesting, without overshadowing the main characters. I have to admit, I did wish for more of Colin. I felt his role was a little diminished in the middle of the book.
in the beginning the book was kinda of annoying, insecure girls, love stories going too fast, characters with the most useless careers in the history of careers. (I mean 1 diving instructor, horse traineer, a journalist and a photographer) anyway the book was kinda boring until we know Kate is the sister of Mel and her ex is Evan. then she returns to USA, she understands they're together and a tries to continue after what she went thru. eventually she goes back to Colin because she realized she loved him. While the theme of story itself is cliche, how it developed was not disappointing at all and actually the ending was the best part of this book.

Interesting story about what happens when I person who was thought dead returns. Kate had been presumed dead for two years and when she remembers who she is she then returns home. Her sister and fiancee have finally moved on with their lives and are together. The story tells how all three adjust to the new situation. While Kate was in Thailand she had been helped by an Australian who fell in love with her. She doesn't feel at home anywhere and she is on a quest to figure out where she needs to go.

Enjoyed the book. Interesting story of a woman who had been a photojournalist and is injured and loses her memory and how she survives and what happens once she figures out who she is. Also involved is what is happening with her sister and her fiancée while she is missing and presumed dead. Story deals with the choices all three make once she returns.
