Are you... nervous?" I asked, not sure what would make anyone want to get into a fight on purpose. I once went at it with the boy who lived next door when I was seven and I was pretty sure I still wasn't over it.

His eyes went all melty at that.

Since the fuck when did it become normal to judge someone by their low moments? We all have them. Those moments aren't what make us. What makes us is what we do after, how we raise ourselves up.

The problem with nothing getting easier was, some days you didn’t want to fight. Some days you just wanted to say fuck it, go out, get a bottle, get some pills and feel fucking better.
High wasn’t what I expected.
It wasn’t like the movies.
Not for me, at least.
It was just… wellbeing. I felt good when I took the pills.
When I didn’t, my life came back to me the sadness of it, the hopelessness.
