People the world over, though diverse, have the same to live in peace and come together as one. Jesus Christ had one to unite disparate people to become ONE. The night before His death, He offered a monumental prayer (John 17). In this prayer He made His heart's desire wants all people, irrespective of differences in background, ethnicity, politics, and/or socio-economic status, to be ONE. Just as Jesus and the Father are perfectly ONE, Jesus desires His people to be included in this complete oneness. He made the ultimate sacrifice in order to achieve His consummate He died on the cross for all people, and, in triumphant resurrection and ascension, He gave three gifts so that “. . . they [we] may be ONE.” The three profound gifts eternal life, truth, and His glory. No, He did not leave His people with a religion, because religion results in division—but, instead, He lovingly bequeathed His followers with free gifts. When these gifts are received and enjoyed, dissimilar people miraculously become ONE. These three gifts bring joy, love, peace, kindness, fulfillment, and purpose for all people. God’s eternal purpose is for humankind to enjoy such a wonderful and mysterious ONEness together, in Him, as the uniting bond of peace. This book expounds on becoming and functioning as ONE through these three gifts. It was written so that both Christians and non-Christians alike can easily understand it. It will take you on a journey through the Bible, into God’s eternal purpose, and into your own home (from house to house). Jesus prayed that when His people are ONE, then “. . . the world may believe. . .” in Jesus Christ. Today’s Reset to ONE; Revival Next!
Unity among Christians is possible. Although many people don't believe that Jesus' prayer for unity in the body of Christ is possible, this book can renew your faith. It is full of many practical and theological ideas on how Christians can overcome their differences and come together as one.
Henry Hon's focus is not on organizational or denominational unity; and not on theological unity. Instead he focuses on the unity of the heart. Since the risen Jesus lives in all believers, we are already united. We just need to learn to open our hearts to each other and begin to experience the inner unity that already exists.
This book is solidly based on Scripture and has uplifting Bible references through out. If you have ever felt any sadness over the splintering of Christianity, this book will greatly encourage you. I highly recommend it.
Hon introduced a number of good things involving God’s eternal purpose until he stepped over into the ditch of “once saved, always saved” (OSAS). He claims once saved, NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, even to the point of “rejecting God” (his exact words), we will not lose our salvation, only rewards. He claims ALL Scriptures that clearly shows conditions, are really relating to rewards. FALSE! Beware of people who mixed truth with error. For this, I do not recommend this book, or Hon.
This book was significant to me because it expanded on God's eternal purpose for His church. It gives many applications for ministering Christ to the local assembly. One significant quote from the book reveals Paul's attitude towards his ministry:
“…I have begotten you through the gospel.” Through the gospel, Paul ministered the eternal life to people, and they became born anew. That was his service as a father: to beget life." [p 286].
Dense, comprehensive and wandering, but with revolutionary proposals towards the end that could provide a viable solution for the disunity in modern Christianity that doesn't rely on ecumenical solutions. Highly recommend, just be patient and don't give up on it.
