Jennings and O'Shea #1

Sensing Trouble

Rate this book
Some trips are longer and stranger than others.

So far, 1997 has been a spectacularly bad year for reporter Meg Jennings -- and it's only March. Uncontrollable, debilitating visions have forced her to give up driving and take a leave of absence from her job. When her mother demands that she visit without explaining why, Meg sets aside her worries and heads for the small town of Alpine Grove. But her arrival is greeted by an empty house and no sign of Mom.

Help arrives in a cherry-red classic convertible Mustang with Riley O'Shea behind the wheel and his fluffy white dog Zelda riding shotgun. Summoned by his father, Riley is disturbed to find that Dad has disappeared along with Meg's mother. Meeting his possible future step-sister for the first time, he learns that he isn't the only one who has been plagued with sensory anomalies that doctors can't explain.

A cryptic note from Dad sends the threesome on a quest across the southwest US to find a mystery man who may have the answers they need. Navigating through hallucinations, malodorous bakeries, Elvis impersonators, and evil clowns forces Meg and Riley to put aside their differences and confront the secrets and conspiracies behind their parents' disappearance. Along the way, they begin to suspect that having messed up senses might not be as coincidental as they thought.

Interesting and unique

This promises to be an interesting series. Good protagonists, a smart dog, and a big mystery to solve. I usually don't like cliff hangers, but with this book, you know early on that the puzzle will take several books to solve. A different kind of mystery and unusual characters seeking answers. Very entertaining and an enjoyable departure from murder mysteries.

Book 1

Love reading this book, left me wanting more. It was a hard book to put down. I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was happening to everyone. Why they were taking people, why Dean was drugged. What happened to the parents.

I found this book to be frustrating. There was no resolution and the female lead annoyed me. It is an interesting concept, though.

I just finished reading Sensing Trouble the new series by Susan C. Daffron and I enjoyed the unusual story about two people looking for their missing parents and now caught up in mystery, intrigue and humor with a protective Samoyed named Zelda. Meg and Riley are quirky strangers that end up searching for their parents that mysteriously disappeared from Alpine Grove. These two misfits suffer from mysterious maladies where Meg will suddenly have visions of where her mother might possibly be and Riley with a condition where he can't stand the smell of food. It's an entirely different storyline than the Alpine Grove series. I'll be reading book 2 to continue the adventure!

Reluctant sleuthing

Very interesting premise. Characters are not dull. Special abilities are debilitating alone, but fade somewhat when characters are together. But, personalities clash and that adds to the mystery. So many unknowns, such a lack of cohesive clues. Book ended too soon, but hopeful next book will be more informative.

No, thank you.

The two main characters are supposedly intelligent. There are obtuse. The woman is painfully annoying and deserves pity. The dog is the best part of the book. Two stars for fairly smooth writing.

Intriguing

I'm not sure where this story is going but I'm hooked enough to read the second - all of which is ironic which you will understand after reading the book!

I don’t like when a book has no resolution. I don’t want to be forced to read the next in a series.

Sensing Trouble

This is a great book. I'm looking forward to the follow up on this series. The main theme
of the story is looking for parents of two unrelated people that have disappeared.

A fun who done it with a sometimes wacky cast of characters. This is a very fast read that is quite different than many romantic suspenses. It's a very nice spin off from the original series and I can't wait to read the next book.

Good start to a new series

I so enjoy Daffron's Alpine Grove series and looked forward to this new one. I was not disappointed. Riley, Meg, and Zelda are delightful and I look forward to to their future exploits.
