Ripple Effect: Episode One

Rate this book
From the author of Ricochet and Backfire comes a dark erotic suspense serial ...

Episode One: Dylan will do anything to escape her current nightmare, even if it means falling into the tangled web of a ruthless killer.

Series Synopsis:

Ripley

They call me RIP.
I’m a killer. A murderer. A psychopath.
In the eyes of the righteous, I’m a monster, born of sin and depravity.
I want to protect her, but I’m not a good man.
I want to love her, but I no longer feel.
She gets under my skin, though, and has awakened something inside of me.
Something I’d kill for.
I’m not her savior—not even close. In fact, I’m worse than the hell she’s already suffered.
I’m her vengeance. Tit for tat, as they say.
And if she’s not careful, I’ll be her ruin.

Dylan

For months, I’ve watched him.
I’ve fantasized him as my savior, my lover. My ticket out of the hell I’ve lived in for the last six years.
I never dreamed he’d be my nightmare.
Had I known what he really is, I’d have never gotten in the car that night, but life is full of cause and effect.
And sometimes the choice on offer isn’t a choice at all.
It’s the result of something already in motion, and we’re merely left to survive the ripple effect.

Keri Lake completely blew me away with this little gem! This first book in the series was my first read by this author and I’m really impressed with her writing skills. This book is exactly the way I love them – dark, intense, gritty and so f@cked-up in a perfectly intriguing way. Needless to say, I enjoyed the hell out of it!

“Ripple effect: noun 1. A spreading effect or series of consequences caused by a single action or event.”

Dylan’s life was, once upon a time, pretty great. Everything changed for her when her mother died over a drug overdose and she was put in the foster care. Dylan can wait to turn eighteen and to leave her abusive home once and for all. The only way she can cope with all the abuse is taking pills in hopes of completely forgetting how tortured and alone she is. She doesn’t have any friends and all she cares about is her little foster sister and her dog.

“The game changed. The fairy tale morphed into ugly and terrifying, yet all of my senses are out of whack.”

Dylan’s life is turned upside down when she “meets” Ripple, a dangerous man, “a vengeance man” who is nothing like the man she pictured in her mind to be. Ripley or RIP, as they call him, is a killer, a murder and a sociopath. He’s a monster and he has always been good at one thing – killing.

Certain circumstances bring Dylan and RIP together and RIP takes an interest in her. As much as Dylan knows the man is dangerous as f@ck, she can’t deny how alluring he is.

“She is the wrinkle in smooth satin, the curiosity that won’t leave me be.”

I really, really enjoyed this first installment! It was intriguing, very well-paced, with just a little bit of everything to keep me intrigued from cover to cover. The storyline is fantastic and engaging. Keri does a fantastic job blending together the action and the suspense.

The character development is really well done. Both Dylan and RIP are great, interesting characters I’m dying to read more about in the next installments of the series. What I’ve read about Dylan so far, I really liked. She’s strong, she has a good heart and she definitely is a fighter. As for RIP…he is dangerous in every way and so very enigmatic.

This first installment ends in such a fantastic way and I'm really looking forward to reading the next one. If you are looking for a dark tale, filled with action and suspense, then you must read this one!

I'm definitely in the minority on this one, but...
This just didn’t do it for me.
Which was a huge bummer.
One of my two book twins really loved it.

I really wanted to love it too.
Maybe I’ll try to re-read it again another time.
Who knows.

Darkness has a way of welcoming immoral self-indulgence. Whether it’s sex or murder, the night makes it a bit more personal, dream-like, since most of the world is in a state of suspended consciousness. Completely unaware of the danger that lurks among them during the day.

The Ripple Effect is a seriously dark and gritty story. There isn’t even a hint of romance within the pages of this book. The characters are deeply flawed and broken, and yet for some reason, you can’t help but hope the Hero and Heroine will eventually end up together. At times the scenes are beyond gory, so if you are squeamish, this may not be the book for you.

Dylan is just another unfortunate victim of the child welfare system. She’s been living in foster care since her crack whore mother died several years back. Her current foster dad pays nightly visits to her room, drugs her and then sexually molests her. She’s become addicted to oxy. The only thing to bring happiness to her life is her dog, Charlie, and the man who goes to the diner across the street every night who she has illicit fantasies about. One day, after school she is attacked by her foster dad and is put in a precarious situation which ignites her survival instincts and she ends up escaping with her dog and another little girl who was staying at the house as well. Desperate to make some money, she heads out to the streets in hopes of picking up a guy who’d be willing to pay her a couple hundred for some sexual favors. She ends up getting into the car of the absolute worst guy imaginable.

 photo IMG_2313_zpshcfy4wg3.jpeg

Ripley is an assassin for hire. This man definitely has a strong constitution and a huge imagination. Killing someone would probably be too mild of a term to describe how his victims meet their end. It is just too gory to even describe. But somehow he has a sexy edge to him, I mean it’s not like he’s killing innocent people. These men are in organized crime, pedophiles, rapists, and deal in human trafficking. During his stakeout on his latest mark, he sees what appears to be an underaged girl trying to turn tricks and she becomes an unwanted complication as she gets into the car of his next intended hit.

Rip follows them to an abandoned warehouse. When he gets inside he can’t help but be impressed by the tenacity of the young woman. She’s a fighter and does her best to protect herself from the slime who has made it clear his intentions are to rape and kill her. Rip ends up stepping in before Dylan is about to be taken out and she is knocked unconscious. When she comes to, the horrific scene that is laid out before her eyes has her gut wrenching from the grotesque visuals. Somehow she is able to reach the part of Rip’s deeply hidden humanity and he spares her life. He gives her $50 from the canvas bag full of cash that her dead potential rapist was carrying on him.

There seems to be a perpetual black cloud hovering over Dylan. She finds herself in need of some serious cash but having no home nor anyone to turn to, she recalls that bag of cash that Rip took with him and as luck would have it, Rip turned out to be the man from the diner who she would watch and fantasize about every Friday night. She knows when and where she’ll be able to find him and somehow get the chance to get her hands on that money.

I’ve never read anything by Keri Lake before but having seen so much love for her previous series, I couldn’t wait to dive into this book. I usually love for my stories to have some romance in it and although this one was lacking in that department, I still was very entertained. There were moments in the beginning where I wasn’t sure I could read it as I’m not a fan of child abuse and molestation but luckily the story doesn’t stay in that uncomfortable area for too long. I’m not too sure what to think of Rip at the moment. I think he had good reasons for getting into his line of business but thenumber of kills under his belt has nearly obliterated any semblance of an empathetic soul within him.

I do hope that somehow, Dylan is able to get out of the dire straits that her life has led her to and that maybe these two characters will find solace within the connection that is building between them.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT: EPISODE ONE is currently available.

descriptionSuper hot cover that is visually pleasing (HaHa). Good Composition and use of space. Typography is simple (two different fonts used) but well balanced. A small tagline that lets you know this is the first book in the series. Quite a good representation of one of the main characters in the book.description

descriptionSo WOWZA was this book good! Dark. Twisted. Fucked up. Well-Written. Nicely Paced. One HELL of a cliffhanger.

In this first episode, the author introduces up to Dylan and Rip. Painting a picture of their separate but equally dark and painful backgrounds. I felt in this episode of the series we got to know Dylan a little more than Rip. I am sure in upcoming episodes that the layers that make up the man Rip is will be slowly peeled away. Both characters hold so much potential and it has me gnawing at the bit to get episode two in my hands.

Not much more to say really. I straight up LOVED it.description

Dylan Westrick was having hard time at home. Forced to fend for herself, she did everything she could to survive. But one unfortunate decision put her in a path of Ripley - a far more dangerous fate she could ever imagine.

Wolves and sheep. For those of us in the flock, survival comes down to how well we manipulate, because a predator’s eyes are naturally drawn to the most innocent.

I really like both Dylan and Rip. Their dark background shaped who they were today. Rip's character was quite clear cut for now. But Dylan could be a wildcard. I have a certain hope for her lol!

Nothing penetrates the layers of fuckupedness that have become a permanent skin I wear while killing.

The story was engaging and fast pace, just the way I like. Not much was revealed yet but enough to make me want for more.

Bloody, bloody, bloody...and a little more bloody added on for good measure.

I read dark in the dark.

Bright and sunny days are not the right time to step into the dark and see the stuff of nightmares.

Keri Lake has ripped me from my nice and cosy world and dumped me into one filled with screams of pain, bullets with your name on it and time measured between your next hit. I'm going to be dreaming (screaming) about blood...lots and lots of blood.

Loved it...but bloody hell. You can't help but turn your mind off to the violence as you read a Keri Lake. For me, there's a little compartment that I place all the dark scenes where I can somehow...not see them. It's like I can turn off how bad and disturbing they really are. What I can't get enough of, is looking into the mind of the characters. I like to see where the characters have been and what they will face. There's this little part of me that wants them to find their own happy place...even if that happy place is in the dark.

This is part of the story and I can't wait for more. Now, saying that, I'm kind of happy to inform you that this author has done right by her readers. $0.99...BARGAIN!!! I'm very impressed. :-)

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books

Preface: This review covers all four episodes in this series. I'm trying to be as vague as possible and to keep it spoiler-free so that those who haven't read all episodes yet can enjoy the full experience.

Sometimes I like to venture into the darker corners of my mind with the help of a super talented author. When I hear Keri Lake has a new book coming out I'll hand over the reins and let her take me out of my comfort zone. I trust her to make me squirm uncomfortably...and still have a good time.

Dylan is only a few weeks away from her 18th birthday and it can't come quick enough. At the hand of her uncle she suffers unmentionable abuse which she only bears in a drugged up stupor and barely remembers what happened afterwards. Her mother died of a drug overdose, or that's what authorities want her to believe, and her father committed suicide. Dylan's only tether to a semblance of normalcy and the one being she cares most about is her dog Charlie. After another horrific experience with her uncle she has had enough and flees the filthy apartment. Having no money to get by is a problem so what's a girl to do?

Ripley is a hitman for one of the mob families competing for power in Chicago. When he follows one of his targets he observes a girl getting into the car of the man he is supposed to kill. He saves her from being raped and killed...and is bemused. Rip doesn't *save* people. He tortures them, makes them beg for a merciful death without remorse. This girl, though, is an enigma to him. She is innocent and yet she isn't, she is naive and still streetwise. Ripley doesn't need witnesses yet he sends her off on her way...but...he can't stop thinking about her. So what's a guy to do?

If you think loving a man like Rip is impossible let me tell you - it isn't. In some twisted logic Keri Lake makes you believe that this cold blooded, obviously psychopathic killer is deep down a good man. He is ruthless, twisted, charismatic and single minded in his focus on his target. Dylan brings out the tender feelings inside of him he didn't think he had. Is he gentle with her? Far from it. Their love is raw, violent and volatile.

And as much as I fear that my demons will ultimately tear her apart, the disturbing reality is, they’d probably get drunk with hers and have a fucking orgy together.

Dylan is a contradiction of naiveté and experience, innocence and jadedness, toughness and vulnerability. She fascinates the cruel Ripley and soon he finds himself entangled in a relationship with an expiry date. The more time he spends with her the more he obsesses about her and the more possessive he gets. And can I say he is HOT? Because, damn, he is!

“This is what fascinates me about you. Doesn’t matter that you’re tied to a bed in a basement, facing all variety of gruesome outcomes, you never lose that spitfire attitude.”

Dylan is probably my favorite heroine by Keri Lake as of yet. She is strong with enough softness, sweetness and vulnerability to make her relatable. She has a youth about her that belies the darkness inside her. I don't think I would have survived the atrocities she experienced in her young life. Together Dylan and Rip are explosive but if you look closely there is a gentle side to their relationship that comes unexpected. I adored how they took care of each other, how these two broken souls fell in love and made sense despite their darkness.

Merciless and merciful. Wild and broken. He’s a raging fire, with the inclination to destroy whatever gets in his path, and I’m nothing but a small scrap of kindling. Yet the way he stares at me with such reverence, makes me feel like I’m the one holding the match.

Keri Lake's gritty writing is flawless as usual. She tackles a very real and uncomfortable subject and passes with flying colors. The mood is intense. Sinister, brutal and raw and not for the faint of heart, yet in the end you'll find yourself deeply in love with a brutal killer and the love of his life.
If you haven't read a book by this author yet and love grungy and gritty tales I urge you to pick up one of her stories. You won't regret it.

“Ripple effect: noun 1. A spreading effect or series of consequences caused by a single action or event.”

Ripple Effect part 1 kicks off what promises to be a dark and intense ride! Dylan is a young woman, desperate to escape her circumstances but darkness is constantly bleeding into her life. In a series of miserable things to happen to her, Dylan crosses paths with the ruthless killer Ripley and her life changes forever.

I just want to start off by saying that good lord people, Keri Lake CAN WRITE. I mean, I already pretty much knew this from reading Ricochet, but this book just reinforced in my mind how unbelievably talented Lake is with words. For example:

“Wind rattles the glass in its frame, the tendrils of late winter sneaking their way beneath the thin afgan wrapped around my shoulders.”

I could quote countless other sentences or small moments to prove my point, but you’ll just have to take my word for it. I love the romance community and I don’t mean to bash it at all, but it’s rare to find this high quality of a writing style combined with a great story, and Lake delivers both.

I will say this book proved to me what a giant scaredy cat/pussy I am. Because this was dark. Like, I felt nauseous and had to skim some of the more violent parts because my weak butt could not handle it. Nevertheless I very much enjoyed this first installment and cannot wait to get to the others!

“The fairy tale morphed into something ugly and terrifying.”

Ripple Effect is the latest offering by Keri Lake. An erotic suspense that will raise the pulse of its readers with daringly stomach turning scenes that are violent and disturbing. The premise is intriguing with flawed characters who have had the worse imaginable start in life leaving them broken and in desperate circumstances.

My interest in the strongly defined characters and their individual story is firmly piqued with me surmising how they may be linked together as this author is adept at crafting a fiendishly wicked and clever plot that links and weaves together.

Episode one solidly sets the scene showing the protagonists in their raw glorified state and the beginnings of what will clearly be a gnarled and twisted story arc. It’s not for the faint of heart but after reading the first part I cannot wait to see what RIP does next and how this dark and dangerous suspenseful story morphs into an erotic heart stopping romance!

NOTE: Ripple Effect is a four book novella series which will release every 2 weeks.

"Every decision you make affects every moment that follows, Dylan. It's like a ripple effect."

Dylan Westrick was once a happy little girl until horrible circumstances puts her in the foster care systems. Now at age seventeen no parents, an abusive foster family she finds herself alone and trying so hard just to stay alive even if that means taking drugs.

Riple is a soulless person, dark, dangerous and with only one goal in his life to kill. He is someone you don't want to mess with. However; Dylan somehow finds herself in the presence of this specimen of darkness. She is conflicted because she knows deep down that he will kill her but she honestly has nothing to lose not after a life full of sorrow and misery.

"I'm a man of three simple pleasures: The hunt. The capture. And the kill."

This story will have you on the edge of your seat, it was fast pace and dark just the way I like. There is not a lot of twists on this first episode as for is only the beginning and there are four episodes. However; it will have you hooked from the beginning and will leave you wanting for more. Readers of dark suspense will truly enjoy this book and the series.

Take a deep breath because Keri Lake is about to take you on an exhilarating, adrenaline-filled, action-packed ride.

The underbelly of Chicago houses some of its most shadiest inhabitants. In fact, there is only a scuffed thin line that separates Ripley between anti-hero and depraved. He tortures, he kills, he feels nothing. He’s Keri’s darkest character, and yet I could not get enough of him.

If I thought my adoration for Keri’s writing could not get deeper, here comes Ripple Effect to prove me otherwise. Reading is never a spectator sport where Keri is concerned. Whether it be her characters or storyline, participation is a requisite.

This book had my heart racing from the first page to the last. The author is a great writer, and knows how to keep an audience excited and wanting more.

Dylan has learned too young that nightmares are real. When she leaves her home, walking away from abuse, she is left with nowhere to go. She is now homeless, penniless and scared. She needs shelter, food, a chance for a better life. She is so strong and I just adore her. Ripley is a dark, dangerous, ruthless killer. He’s rough around the edges, emotionless, cold……. He is the perfect killer anti-hero. Dylan stirs something primal, untamed in Riple which makes him want not to kill her and keep her around a little longer. Their explosive sexual chemistry just pops out of the pages. Should Dylan trust this menacing stranger? And what is the price of being attracted to a man who operates on the edge of danger…her life, her heart or both?

Because I can't say much about the plot without giving it away, I'll just say that this is a fantastic read. The author adds deliciously creepy and scary threads of dark romance to her story. I can't wait to read the second book because this cliffhanger is crazy.

In short:

"Every decision you make affects every moment that follows, Dylan. Choose wisely."

When Daylan was nine-year-old, her dad died of suicide. After his death, the bank took their house and she and her mother went from shelter to shelter until her mother died from overdose. So system sent her to her aunts. The most horrible place for her.

"I have no interest in school. No goals to go on to anything bigger and better. I take that back, I used to, before the Westpricks took me in, but those days have faded from my horizon like an unreachable mirage."

At the age of sixteen, Ripley killed his own father and traded one cage for another. Twelve years later, he became a torturer. His job is tortured people, get the information and then kill them!

This book was something like meeting the characters and knowing more about them. Nothing special happened till the end. It was really short and quick, but well-written! I just expected something more! And yes, I definitely would read the second book!

The story is told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s fast-paced. The characters were perfect especially Daylan! She is so young but so strong for her own age! It’s the first installment in Ripple Effect series and ends on a cliffhanger, a huge one! I enjoyed it and hope you like this as well!

I'll review all four episodes together, because I can't remember what happened individually in each.

I've had very low expectations, considering this was serial-novellas. Colour me suprised! Writing was good, which was the biggest suprise! Sadly these kind of themes and genres give the authors leave to fuck the grammar and language. In the end we are left with coverbaits that read as brainfarts. I'm happy to say, that was not the situation here.

While a bit overly dramatized, characters were great and consistent. Even though it wasn't daek enough for me, the story delivered the "dark" it promised. Plot was interesting. Over all it was a good book.

Holy shit! What an ending! I need episode 2 pronto!

"In the underworld, they’re all bad. Nobody’s worth mercy."

Ripple Effect got me hooked from page 1. This is not a story for the faint hearts! Ripple is not a sweet gentleman and Dylan is not really the kind of damsel in distress. She is a tough cookie who's been battling for her life for a long time now.

The blurb is kinda enigmatic and it adds to the general atmosphere this book has. Keri Lake put the two main pieces of the story in this first episode giving plenty of background to shape your mind on what's going to happen... or so you think.

"I’m a vengeance dealer. A mercenary. I feign loyalty to exact revenge.

Ripple is an enigmatic cold-hearted killer. I think I might consider him as the darkest anti-heroes Keri has ever written about and I love it! There are so many layers to this man and I can't wait to discover him more. Dare I imagine him in a vulnerable state ? I would love to... not sure Rip will be on board though.

Dylan is a seventeen – almost eighteen -girl who's world changed even since her dad committed suicide. From there, her life is more a survival than anything. Keeping the nightmares away with pills, she's strong despite what you can think.

Ripple Effect was intense, action packed and intriguing at the same time. I can't wait to see where Keri is going to lead us in this hell of a world!

“Here’s a tip from a bastard who’s done some pretty stupid shit in his life. Every decision you make affects every moment that follows, Dylan. It’s like a ripple effect. Choose wisely.”

**updated review**

I had to finish bc of the glowing reviews and still this book wasn't for me. The writing style didn't jive with me. I found it a bit slow (I'm assuming bc of all the episodes) and the narrative really long.

I can see why people love this book but like I said. I couldn't get the style of writing

---------

DNF 45%

I tried!!!! I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll come back later. So many glowing reviews.

From a young age, Rip learned how to survive and hone his predatory skills making him a sought after mercenary. Following his own set of rules and living a solitary life, Rip surprises himself after meeting a certain girl caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Every decision you make affects every moment that follows…”

Dylan Westrick is just a few weeks shy of her eighteenth birthday, counting the days before she can leave her abusive and low-life foster parents in the dust. However, the odds change and Dylan must deal with her new circumstance. Faced with a limited amount of options, she finds herself stuck in an inescapable situation.

“The game changed. The fairy tale morphed into ugly and terrifying, yet all of my senses are out of whack.”

Told in dual POV, a dark tone is set with a swift pace and vivid storytelling that lured me in from the beginning. From what is revealed in this episode, Rip and Dylan have interesting stories to tell and how their paths cross is quite intriguing. Sharing an inexplicable mutual attraction, Rip and Dylan are entangled in a web that is about to cause a ripple effect.

I am definitely hooked on this series and cannot wait to read what happens next! I highly recommend!

We're off to a good start in what is sure to be one dark and fucked up story.

description

We all know how much I love when a story has been broken down into tiny little snippets forcing me to read multiple "books" to actually read the whole book.

description

But, nonetheless, that's what we have here and I'm now invested in this drama so, I'm off to read the next installment in this series.

**** UPDATE ****
Please be advised this book series (Episodes 1-4) have now been made into a FULL LENGTH novel!!! Could I be anymore excited about this change in publication?? No, no I could not. This is fantastic! Kudos to the author for this update and yay, Yay, YAY!

Once I read the new publication, I will review it on the full novel's designated page here -> Ripple Effect: A Novel

-When you want a man dead, you buy a gun. When it's personal, you hire me.-RIP

Dylan Westrick is a beautiful 17 yr. old girl that lives her life between foster care & living on the streets of Chicago. She's had a tragic life at the mercy of others with no opportunity. She feels discarded & alone, and is just trying to survive the next two months till she graduates high school. She will be 18 in a few weeks & will finally be free.

Dylan has been watching a gorgeous man for months from her window & fantasizes about him. She doesn't expect to ever meet him, but when she unexpectedly comes face to face with this stranger, she quickly finds out he's more complicated than she realized. She soon thinks he's a psychopath. Stunningly handsome, but crazy & scary as hell.

Rilpey aka RIP lives in a world where it's kill or be killed. After a rough childhood, his moral thread snapped years ago. He works for the underworld & left his humanity behind when he began ridding the world of vile scumbags. He's now nothing but a feared machine used to exact someone else's vengeance. He's a mercenary that delivers pain. He's a numb, heartless, killer. He's a calculated monster that shows no mercy & feels no empathy, so when he meets a beautiful young girl that he wants to protect, it goes against his instincts. She quickly gets under his skin & he can't stop thinking about her.

-He's beautiful. A sad, but beautiful man.

-I hate that his touch is everything I'd fantasized- strong and penetrating, but gentle.

-She is the wrinkle in smooth satin, the curiosity that won't leave me be.

-"Every decision you make affects every moment that follows, Dylan. It's like a tipple effect. Choose wisely."

4* born villain STARS!!

Ripple Effect was my first read from Keri Lake and I've heard so many good things about it. Some of my favorite bloggers also loved this. I'm really excited to wait this until the full book. As soon as I 'touched' the episode one and I'm hooked. So addictive and really bad for my heart. Lol!
Ripple effect: noun
1. a spreading effect or series of consequences caused by a single action or event

As an introduction, both characters were really promising. Let's start with our heroine, Dylan. She's basically homeless. Everything went shit in her foster home. She's very beautiful and everybody wants a piece of her *you know what I mean*. Even with her problems, Dylan never give up without a fight. She's also fierce, loyal and protective. Her dog is the only companion. That's what makes I admired her so much.

description
These days, I kill because no one is there to stop me and redemption doesn't exist in the underworld.

Our anti-hero, Ripley is a deadly machine. He works as a hired hit-man also double agent. His method of killing is to torture his target. A ruthless psychopath. However, Dylan was a cluster-fuck that he didn't predict. Ripley supposed to finish her but he let her go. I don't think I have feelings for Ripley in this episode but he already has my attention.
“Here’s a tip from a bastard who’s done some pretty stupid shit in his life. Every decision you make affects every moment that follows, Dylan. It’s like a ripple effect. Choose wisely.”

When Dylan realized who is Ripley, she was scared also excited. She always dream of him from distances. But Dylan didn't predict the thing she did that makes Ripley wouldn't let her go again. This book really succeed to deliver some dark and disturbing elements in the story. I'm kinda uncomfortable with that but fuck it. In fact, I kept wishing for some miracles happened to her.

I just wanna say... WOW! Ripple Effect managed to amaze me with a whole new level of craziness. It was well-written and fast pace. Also I really enjoyed both POVs between Dylan and Ripley. This book really sucked me up into the story that I couldn't put down. Nothing reveal much but I really liked the suspense. A really promising read to continue the next chapter. Very recommended for dark and suspense lovers!

“I am a vengeance dealer. A mercenary. I feign loyalty to exact revenge.”

Well, color me intrigued!

Ripple Effect tells the story of Dylan. After escaping from her horrendous aunt's home, Dylan is left to live on the streets and forced to care for herself. Pills are the only escape she has to try and help her deal with her awful past and even worse current living situation.

Insert Ripley: Lunatic hitman with zero emotions whose innocence was ripped from him at a very young age.

They’ve turned me into a monster. Nothing but a machine used to exact someone else’s vengeance. A mindless killer—numb, heartless, a hollow vessel of violence and pain. When you want a man dead, you buy a gun. When it’s personal, you hire me.

During one of his hits, Ripley crosses paths with Dylan and is caught off guard with his interest in her. I have to say, though their interactions in this first episode were limited, every time they shared a scene I instantly perked up. AND THAT LAST SCENE!? AHH!

That girl. Dylan. Her name is a barbed wrecking ball against a wall of smooth ivory. I want to take my sharpest blade and slice her right out of my skull, forget I ever saw her.

Not much more information is given, but I can say Keri is one twisted lady and the ending of this episode has left me itching for more. I can't wait to see how this all unfolds. No doubt this will be one crazy tale and I'm so looking forward to the ride!

This is one of the grittiest books I've read to date. I needed some time to wrap my head around it to write a thoughtful review. This isn't my usual review format, so I apologize upfront.

Ripple Effect is dark, gritty, sad, emotional, traumatic, engaging, enraging, and a bit f*cked up! Now do you see why I needed some time with this one? Regardless of the negative adjectives above, this book stuck with me. It made me think and ask questions I don't typically ask when I read traditional romance or even mafia and suspense books.

The best way I can describe this book is that it's an exploration of the darkest facets of the human conditions. How far can you push an person before they lose all humanity? How much trauma can one girl take before she gives up and accepts her shitty lot in life? What is the personification of the lowest form of human? That's my interpretation of the book. The most important question, however, is what happens when two of those dark souls cross each other. Do they find solace? Can they regain their humanity and find some level of peace?
I don't have the answers, you'll have to read episodes 1-4 to find them.

What I will share is that this book is well written and utterly intriguing. The author is bold and the subject matter unapologetic. It's shocking and enthralling. While I've enjoyed the series thus far, Ripple Effect is not for everyone. If you have any triggers, you may want to steer clear. If you're a fan of dark and gritty, you'll love it.

I definitely found another anti-hero to root for in Ripple Effect, the new series by non-other-than Keri Lake. Ripley is a psychopath, a ruthless, menacing man and you wish you were dead if you actually meet him. I need to actually get my head check that I find his skill and personality - charismatic. Thinking about him just make shiver run down my spine, in a good way.

Honestly, with the numbers of scary anti-heroes I've met, the things Ripley did here isn't something I've never seen. I guess I've read too much and sorta immune to violence and gore. If you are new to this, maybe don't eat your lunch while reading.

The heroine, Dylan is a feisty little thing. She's young and vulnerable, might be a tad naive and inexperience, but she is a tough nut and a fighter. Despite her age, she's not someone to be underestimate. I like that her character had a good balance between strong and weakness.

The entire read is filled with suspense and intrigued. I guarantee you are gonna got hook right from the first page till the last and dying for the next one.

This is a serial with four episodes, but fear not for the cliffhangers as each subsequent episode will be release in a week succession. I have all four with me right now and I'm gonna devour it asap, while feeling guilty for not savoring it slowly.
