Sharp Curves Ahead

Rate this book
From bestselling author Allison Hobbs comes this explosive and thought-provoking novel about two best friends who struggle to survive the ultimate betrayal and redefine how society views full-figured women.

Plus-size friends Jayla Carpenter and Bailee Evans have been close since college. But despite their physical similarities, the two couldn’t be more different. Bailee is laid-back, happily married, and comfortable in her skin. Jayla, on the other hand, resents the many years that she was fat-shamed and is now obsessed with proving that she is as sexy as skinny chicks. Celebrating her body, she flaunts her extra weight in provocative clothing and enjoys the attention of a long list of random male admirers she meets on a dating site for curvy girls. The fact that her inbox is flooded with requests to hook up affirms Jayla’s opinion that a Rubenesque body type is more appealing than a stick figure.

But Bailee isn’t so sure that Jayla’s love life is as gratifying as she professes. She’s not convinced her friend’s actions are driven by body positivity, but rather a problem of low self-esteem. She secretly worries that Jayla will end up getting her heart broken—or worse. Her fears are proven true when Jayla is stood up by her latest romantic interest on Valentine’s Day. Infuriated over the insult, Jayla goes on a man-stealing rampage to prove that she is more attractive and sexier than thin girls. Soon, it becomes clear that no man is off limits—not even her best friend’s husband.

Can a lifelong friendship recover after the ultimate betrayal or are some friendships too toxic to keep?

Sharp Curves Ahead was a good read. It grabbed from the first chapter to the end. I was drawn in by the cover and title, but is was nothing like I thought.

Bailee and Jayla are best friends since college. Bailee is married to college sweetheart for ten years and Jayla is single and longing for what Bailee has which seems so to be the perfect life , but is it really? This book is full of sharp curves literally and figuratively. Enjoy the ride.

Got my Hobbs Itch Scratched

Well, I’ve gotten by ‘Hobbs itch’ scratched with this read! Right on time! I consider myself a seasoned Hobbs fan and I am feeling satiated and satisfied! This work of art reminded me of why Allison is my favorite author. The colorful and complex characters remind me of folk I have met and interacted with at some point in my life. Allison takes me through the familiar streets of my hometown Philly with a high level of homesickness and with lots of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this unraveling story and all of the surprises it contains. It’s a Philly thang; you may not understand.
Thanks Allison!

Ah! It took me a minute to finally sit down and read this book. I’m glad I actually took the time to read this book.

This book was GREAT! Although, there definitely were some flaws with the writing. My least favorite thing about this book was the Derek storyline regarding sexuality. It was written strangely?!! I don’t want to go into explicit details about that, but yeah.

I found Jayla and Bailee to be relatable when it came to their insecurities and eating issues. There are very few books that discuss black women‘s Issues with binge eating disorder; so this was refreshing.

Bailee’s mother left me speechless! What kind of mother hates their own child THAT much? What kind of mother would steal her own daughter’s husband and have zero remorse? She deserved all of that jail time.

The ending was underwhelming though! I’m glad the girls got a happily ever after, but it could have been much better.

What can I say about this book ? This is the story of Bailee and Jayla. Both of them are plus size and they have so many issues. Bailee is living the life with her husband of 10 years Trent But are they as happy as they seem. Jayla is a plus size real estate agent who is confusing sex with love. These woment have issues. But I could not stand Jayla. She was just dumb. This book had some twists and trurns that I did not see coming.. All in all its a page turner.

Page Turner

Allison did a remarkable job on this one, it’s a page turner. The characters had me intrigue, the story line had me on the edge. My hubby kept saying what happened. I told him bit and pieces of this book.

This book is another winner for the talented Allison Hobbs. I thought everything was believable. At the end you will find out the truth about why the fit mom seems to always put down her chubby daughter. You will love this one.

This book was truly a case of don't judge a book by it's cover. This book was no where as steamy as I thought it would be. A story of two curvy women dealing with several relationship issues and problems with self esteem. I loved this book and will be going to my library to check out her other books.
