The Lewis Cousins #2

Too Complicated

Rate this book
Reardon Lewis is a small-town lawyer in Cherry Springs, the place where he and his cousins grew up. With the body of a Viking and the heart of a geek, Reardon is loyal to his family and indispensable to his community. The only thing missing in his life is love, and it just so happens that the one woman he has always wanted but could never have has just moved to Cherry Springs.

Chloe Zahn is a successful businesswoman, a city girl, and a single mom. The last thing she ever planned to do was move to a small town, but that’s the choice she’s made to bring her son closer to his dad. The only problem? The Lewis family and the obvious disdain they have for her.

The more time Reardon and Chloe spend together, the harder it is to fight their growing feelings for each other. Things between them have always been Too Complicated, but Reardon knows this may be his last chance to win over the woman he's always dreamed of, complications be damned.

Too Complicated is the second in an all-new small-town romance series by Bethany Lopez. Follow the Lewis cousins as they learn about love and loss in Cherry Springs, the kind of place where there are festivals for every occasion and everyone knows your business.

Note to self-this is a little too much "keeping it in the family for me" the h slept with and had a kid with this guy's cousin. That cousin, the H of book 1, ends up with this h's sister who is now step mom to her own nephew..... Ummmm that's a Jerry Springer episode right there

Too Complicated is the second book in the Lewis Cousin series. You should definitely read Too Tempting first. I hadn't read the first book. Although I didn't feel lost but would like to have made the connections with the previous characters. I was hooked from the beginning. I loved this story. It flowed well and I am able to relate to Chloe's situation. I can't wait for the next book in this series. Worth reading!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC for this book.

Title: Too Complicated
Author: Bethany Lopez
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 3.5/5

This is the second book of the Lewis Cousins series but can be read as a standalone which is how I read it.

The storyline flowed along nicely and was in no way confusing however I will be totally honest it did take me a few chapters to settle in and enjoy the characters for who they were I'm glad I stuck with it as it turned out to be an enjoyable read.

This was a really sweet romance with an adorably cute yet hot and sexy lead male "Reardon" who was the all round perfect book boyfriend and the ideal man for Chloe throw in some well written secondary characters and you had a pleasant story.

If you're after a sweet romantic read then this one's for you, was it filled with hot passion? No but it was nice read that had the feel good factor and for that reason alone it gets 3.5 stars out of 5 from me. It was my first read by Lopez but it won't be my last I like her style of writing so I'll definitely be checking out her other stuff.

Too Complicated by Bethany Lopez is the second book in The Lewis Cousins Series.
This book is not a stand-alone. I recommend to read Too Tempting, book one, first.

This is Reardon and Chloe´s book.
Reardon Lewis, , a sucessful lawyer has his eyes on Chloe Zahn. He has a major crush on her. There is only one little complication. Chloe is the mother of a teenage son. A son who´s father is his cousin Gabe. And not enough, Gabe is to wed to Chloe´s sister Zoey -- as already read in book one Too Tempting.
Nobody in the Lewis family likes Chloe, but Reardon and she are great together.

This book left me breathless. I liked the characters but sometimes I thought I might get whiplash so much is going on - just like the title says : Too Complicated.

I liked the writing and I liked their beautiful and well deserved HEA.
4 Stars and Thank you Bethany Lopez!

I received a free ARC of this book and am voluntarily writing an honest review.

This book is a great continuation of this series! Technically this book can be read as a stand alone, in order to understand the complete back story it is best to read Book 1 first. This book follows Reardon and Chloe. Reardon has been in love with Chloe since the first time he saw her but things got in the way and he was never able to make her his. When he decides that now is his time to make his move, how will Chloe respond? Due to the character's long, complicated pasts Chloe is hesitant to start anything with him but can love be stopped? Bethany Lopez has a knack for creating characters that the reader roots for, as well as story lines that are romantic!

I was looking forward to Reardon’s story since he was introduced in Book One. I have to say I liked Reardon’s character more than Gabe’s. There was just something about his character that drew me to him. I really appreciated the family dynamics of the group.
I didn’t care for Chloe’s character in the first book, but once we got things from her perspective in this book, she grew on me. I liked how much love she had for her son and sister.
I was rooting for Chloe and Reardon throughout the story and I liked how Bethany ended the story. I am so looking forward to Dillon’s story.

Chloe would do anything for Reardon and her son Chris even sit through comic con panels, "I looped one arm through his, then the other through Chris’s, and I went with my men to meet the Guardians of the Galaxy." Sometimes Chris and Reardon start making decisions and Chloe is just sitting there dumbfounded, “that settles it then, we’ll stay in Copper Woods and get one of the bigger houses,” Reardon turned his head to me and asked, “Do you want to wait, or just do one move?” I was sure my mouth was gaping like a fish, opening in closing, as I sat there in a stupor." I love the Lewis family and I'm so looking forward to more books in this series.

Reardan Lewis...AKA as the Viking and #lawayersexyassin
The story of Chloe and Reardan is so beautiful. Was it sappy sweet, hell yes it was. I loved how Reardan was willing to put it all on the line for the woman he thought he lost to his cousin Gabe. Thankfully Reardan got his chance.
The story really is FAN-FRIGGING-TASTIC!!!! I read it every single free moment I had and believe I made sure I had a lot...
There are a lot of high lights in this book. ** Spoiler free review** I cant wait for readers to read the Office scene. And Chloe's AHA moment.

What a great book! The fact that these two missed out on something so beautiful when they were younger is sad, but then things wouldn’t have worked out so perfectly if it hadn’t happened. A perfect second chance love story that you will listen to non stop all the way to the end.

I wasn't keen on the first book in the series because of the whole dynamic of the main characters. This book is about the sister of the heroine from that story and the hero's cousin.
Reardon has loved Chloe from the minute he laid eyes on her 14 years previously....when she made a beeline for his cousin and had sex with him.
I enjoyed Ms Lopez' s other work but this series just isn't doing it fir me which is really disappointing and as I said before I think that's on me just not liking the whole her sister/ his cousin complicated dynamics. If that doesn't bother you then I think you would really like this book. My problem was that I already didn't like Chloe. Reardon (and Zoey) come across as total pushovers whilst Gabe and Chloe were much more bold and alpha.
Having said all that, I would try the next book because I really do like this authors work usually.
HEA? Yes
Cheating? No

Absolutely love this series and hope there is more of the Lewis Cousins to come! The characters are strong but vulnerable as they fight their attraction as long as they can. The story line is sweet and I couldn't put this book down. Loved it!

I loved this book. This is the second in a series. You don't have to read the first book to read this book, but it is helpful to understand the characters better. Chloe and Zoey Zahn are sisters. Zoey is having a baby and getting ready to marry Gabe Lewis who is the father of Chloe's son Christopher. Years ago Chloe and Gabe had a drunken one night stand where Chloe got pregnant. She never told Gabe about the baby until Christoper was about 11 years old and went to Gabe's football camp. (You can read all about the story in Book 1.). That same night Chloe was with Gabe, Reardon Lewis Gabe's cousin was ready to talk to Chloe but she chose Gabe. Now years later Chloe and Christopher are living in the same small town as Gabe and Zoey. Reardon still is attracted to Chloe and wants a chance with her. You will need to read the story to see what happens.

This is a really good story and can get a little confusing at times. Gabe's parents are still upset with Chloe for keeping the baby a secret. Chloe and Zoey never had their parents around much, so Chloe hates it that she feels like an outsider. Chloe and Zoey are very close and have always helped each other out. Chloe has never dated much so isn't good with relationships. Reardon has always compared any woman he met to Chloe and they have all come up short. I loved Reardon's personality. He is described as big as a Viking, But is such a geek. He is so funny how excited he gets about comic book characters. You can't help but love him. I love this series and can't wait for the next book to come out. I strongly encourage you to read this book. I voluntarily tardily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

Reardon has spent years never forgetting how the girl he wanted never noticed him. But now he has the chance and opportunity to change that, if he could only get her to see that.

Chloe moved to Cherry Springs to be closer to her sister and for her son to be closer to his dad. While the family welcomed her son with open arms they all seemed to hate her, making life for her lonely.

When Reardon tries to tell her how he feels she gets the wrong idea and immediately puts him into the dreaded ‘friend zone’.

Things change the night of her sister’s wedding. She wakes up the next morning with a hangover and Reardon in her bed. When things settle down, they agree to take a chance and try to have a relationship.

But things change and when they are faced with a life changing decision, they will have to admit their true feelings for each other.

This is a great book and I felt that Bethany Lopez really brought Chloe and her feelings to the surface. You could feel how and why she did the things she did and why she was so worried in the beginning. Once you learned why Reardon felt so strongly for her you can understand why he wanted her so much. And you will find yourself cheering them on.

I am looking forward to more in this series and I already know whose stories I really want to read.

For Reardon Lewis, Chloe Zahn is the one that got away. After seeing her twelve years ago, he couldn't forget her. Now she's back into his life. But things are a little complicated: she's the mother of his cousin's son.
Chloe Zahn took a chance and moved with her son to Cherry Springs, so they can be close to her son's father and to her sister. She has a successful business and now she has to start over and decide if she wants to find a job or go back to school.
As they spend time together, Chloe and Reardon feelings for each other grow. But things are a little complicated because a few members of the Lewis aren't very fond of Chloe. Will Chloe and Reardon let this complication come between them?

I loved Too Complicated! The story is very compeling with its sweetness, funny scenes, and drama. The chemistry between Reardon and Chloe is off the charts and I couldn't help but cheer for them.

Chloe Zahn is a very strong woman and a great mother. She always put her son's hapiness above everything. Now she's in uncharted territory but wants her son to be close to his father and she wants to stay close to her sister. She falls for Reardon, but she's afraid that he doesn't feel the same for her.
Reardon Lewis is a hot lawyer. He wants to settle down, but still hasn't found the right woman. He always thought of Chloe as the one that got away. He wants to pursue a relationship with her, but knows she's afraid of his family's reaction. He is a very sweet guy and a geek. I loved him!

Once again, Bethany Lopez nailed it! Too Complicated is a great romance book that will hook you from the first page with its amazing story and awesome characters. I can't wait to read more about the Lewis cousins!

This is book two in the Lewis Cousins series and honestly, I haven't read book one yet so when I read the first page and learned about the "complicated" family connections between Chloe and Reardon, I was shocked (not in a bad way) and had to reread the passage again! WOW! Let's just say the book is suitably named. Bethany Lopez wrote a sweet but complex and tangled love story between two people who just can't resist each other. Reardon is an endearing, self proclaimed "geek". I loved watching him overcome his shyness to woo the girl who got away. The first chapter is told from Reardon's POV and given the circumstances of Chloe's relationship to his cousin, I wasn't sure I would like Chloe's character too much. BUT I found Chloe to be strong and well, HUMAN..a woman who made a mistake but still had gumption and guts. I ended up not quite agreeing with but at least somewhat admiring her difficult choices. The story reads pretty fast since the chapters are pretty short. I would recommend reading the first book though to get more background on the characters (which I'll have to do!). Told from dual POVs with a happy ever after. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is of course book 2 in the series, and while you can read this as a stand-alone (As I did), I recommend reading book 1 first, as you will meet everyone and get a lot more of the background.

This is Reardon and Chloe's story, and man was it a story. And being complicated is sure putting it nicely with the background going into their love story. But even with that you can't help but fall in love with Chloe and Reardon.

Chloe is an amazing mother and through her son you learn that she has always been ONLY a mother. I loved their relationship and I loved her struggle when he would want to go spend time with his dad.

Reardon accepted Christopher (Chloe's son) from the very beginning and they seemed have bonded really early, so that was also nice to see.

But with everything, the side characters plus the main ones is what makes this book so special. You can't help but fall in love with the town and everyone in it. This is overall a very sweet love story.

So far this is my favorite of the 2 books in this series as we move from Gabe and Zoey to Reardon and Chloe. Their story actually started long before this but now Reardon has a chance he always resented not having taken before. The entire situation is unbelievable and uncomfortable but he does everything in his power to make her see him. Even with all of his family, ok most of them, helping him it still make not work.

While it isn't steamy this story feels like the characters are finally touchable. Emotions are high which makes for some interesting reading, or maybe I just relate to this kinda crazy better. Can't wait to see who in this clan and a crazy fun loving, strong family they are, is next on the block to loose their single stamp.

This is the second book in the Lewis Cousins series and while it probably can be read as a standalone, you will appreciate the characters and understand them more if you read book one first.

Reardon is an amazing character. I absolutely loved him in the first book but, defying possibility, his story made me love him that much more. Reardon is ready to settle down with someone who can appreciate his small-town life. He's the sweet, nice guy who prioritizes his family and loves where he's from. He has always thought of Chloe as the one who got away but doesn't know how to overcome all of the complications in their way. Chloe has been sacrificing a lot for her son and she now has decided to move to his father's small hometown so he can get to know his new family. There are so many things standing in the way of her and Reardon but their connection is so strong and it is obvious that they belong together.

I didn't think this book would top Too Tempting but there is absolutely no other character like Reardon. I am looking forward to reading about the rest of the Lewis Cousins!!

I wasn't sure about how this would go, knowing Reardon has liked Chloe from the start, yet Chloe had a moment with Gabe. Turns out things went pretty easy, with Chloe being the biggest obstacle. Chloe, who didn't want to be a third wheel, Chloe, just needed to let herself want something instead of living for everyone else. It made the ending very sweet.

So so good!!

I just love the way these books make me feel. The relationships between the characters is so loving, supportive and down right adorable. This book is so funny, quirky and very steamy. The friends and family and combinations of both are a perfectly woven network of loving, loyal and fiercely phenomenal personalities. Excellent writing and conceptually creative. I must begin the next book right away. This series will not disappoint, I highly recommend this book and all the past ones I’ve read from this author. I’m a forever fan. Well done and thank you for a full day of smiles, laughter and total bliss as I’ve traveled through the brilliant stories and fallen in love with the most incredible folks and family on a page. Wow!! Time very well spent.

Camp may be over, but the Complications are just getting started!!

Too Complicated picks up shortly after Too Tempting ends. You could read this standalone, but knowing the history I appreciated reading them in order. This is a crazy funny story, I laughed out loud countless times. It is tender and loving, daring, complicated, with a touch of frustration. And now a bit about the story...

The Lewis and Zahn clans are both back and now living in Cherry Springs. A few cousins still haven't moved back full time, but most are back. This story features Chloe and Reardon, but has carryover for Gabe and Zoey, plus hints at what's coming next. Reardon has loved Chloe since he first saw her 14 years ago, but she picked Gabe. Football stud over geeky lawyer, story of his life... But she was back and Gabe was taken. Now to work his magic on her before someone else snatches her up first!

Favorite passages:
- “You can’t just roll over at her feet and beg her to scratch your belly. Women like a challenge.”
- “Baby, win or lose, I’ll mount anything you’d like.”

Warning before you start reading this book - while it is technically a stand alone, you really need the back story contained in Too Tempting (book 1) for some of the issues here to make sense.
I enjoyed getting to know Chloe a little bit better here and liked Reardon, I also really liked them together. I just wish we had gotten to spend more time with them.
My biggest complaint about Too Tempting is also a issue here, the story rocks along doing well and then suddenly sprints for the finish line, wrapping things up so quickly that a lot of details get left behind and not shared.
Had the pacing of the book been my only issue, this probably would have been a 3 1/4 to 3.5 star read, but I had one other big issue, Gabe and Zoey (the main characters in book 1) were too large of a presence in Chloe and Reardon's story. While I expected them to be strong secondary characters, given the length of the book, we spent almost as much time with Gabe and Zoey as we did with Rear and Chloe.
I wish this book had been a little bit longer and more focused on the main characters. I am still curious about the other Lewis cousins and want to read more of the series, I am just a little disappointed in this series compared to other work I have read from Ms. Lopez.

We met Reardon in book 1 when he was assisting with Gabe's football camp, and then when Gabe found out that he was the father of Zoe's nephew. We discovered that Rear had his eye on Chloe, Zoe's sister, first but then she chose Gabe. As we get into Reardon's story, we learn that he has never really gotten over Chloe...she's his 'one that got away'. Now he's trying to decide if he should make his move or move on. Chloe has moved to Cherry Springs so that she and her son, Chris, could be close to his father and family...and her sister. She's helping Zoe plan her wedding to Gabe. She has the tingles for Reardon but is afraid of losing his friendship so she keeps acting as if she's not affected by him. Zoe keeps trying to set up Chloe w single guys and that sets off Rear. After much tiptoeing around each other, the pair finally decide to give a relationship a try...all should be well then, right? Not so much! No spoilers...read the book...you will not be disappointed!

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I liked this book as well as the one before. It is a wholesome romance. Bethany Lopez does a great job of telling the story of the Lewis clan. Each one is a standalone and doesn't required previous knowledge. This story has a little bit of the previous story, but, it does not require the previous book to be read. The narrator, Anne James, does a great job with the characters and the tone of the story.
