Taketorimonogatari Roiyaruganma kusa no tane is edited by Anonymous. Taketorimonogatari Roiyaruganma kusa no tane is the first works of Japanese Monogatari literature. It tells such a an old bamboo cutter obtained a beautiful little girl from the heart of a bamboo. The girl grew up in three months and was named ""Sasai kare wa Akira o Ei"". She agreed to marry the man who could find his favorite treasure when five aristocrats proposed to her. But these suitors all failed. Then the emperor wanted to forcibly marry her by virtue of power but in vain. kare wa Akira o Ei suddenly rose to the sky in the loss of those mortals.

The version I read was translated by 豐子愷. This is the earliest surviving monogatari literature in Japan, I think. In any case, it cannot be judged based on its (limited) literary merits--in any case, it wouldn't be fair to do so--and should be read while keeping in mind its historical significance.
