The later chapters of the Gospel of John form what is for many the deepest and most moving accounts of all Scripture. They also form a detailed description of Jesus' final days and hours on earth, and Jesus' final instructions to his team as he prepares to hand on his ministry. Karl Martin mines this rich vein of Scripture to draw lessons for leadership, leadership in Jesus' way. Leadership in the way of Jesus is about dying to self, about handing on, about succession. This deceptively profound, honest and practical book gives great insight for leaders - challenge for younger leaders, encouragement for mid-life leaders, and refreshment for the mature leaders - and what may be some of the most significant lessons of their leadership life.
This review was first featured by the publisher, Muddy Pearl, on their web site, back in December 2020, a time when the world of politics was in turmoil on both sides of the Atlantic. Has much changed in a year ?
On reading the excellent book “Lead”, by Karl Martin, I could not help but think ... Where are the Leaders? Over the last few months I have found myself wanting to shout at the TV almost every day. It’s the news. They report turmoil, but I find myself despairing. “Where are the leaders?”...
The introduction is way too all-over-the-place and unstructured for me (almost made me lay away the book). But when the real parts start, it is a thorough journey through the various aspects of leaderships, bound to the story of Jesus.
Though mostly applicable for church leaders, many lessons can be taken away for business leaders as well.
