Ever since Megan Ryder discovered Jude Deveraux and Judith McNaught while sneaking around the “forbidden” romance section of the library one day after school, she has been voraciously devouring romance novels of all types. Now a romance author in her own right, Megan pens sexy contemporary novels all about family and hot lovin’ with the boy next door. She’s also a master procrastinator–with knitting and yarn shopping as her primary form of procraftination!
Something Old is my second Megan Ryder novel. Whilst it’s a very different read to her Knights of Passion series, it is still a wonderful read. In fact, it left me with the same main feeling: I want to read more of this series.
For me, Something Old took a little bit of getting into. I was intrigued by the storyline, yes, but I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about the characters. I didn’t quite connect with them at first, I wanted to roll my eyes at what was happening, but once I got part way through the story I found I loved them. They’re the kinds of characters you grow to love, the ones you come to enjoy more than you expected to. It’s always wonderful when such a thing happens, watching as your feelings change towards people and events always makes a reading a lot more fun. Thus, if like me you’re not one hundred percent into the characters at first, I suggest you carry on reading as you’ll come to love them.
There really is so much to be seen throughout this book. There are so many elements to be seen. It’s more than just a simple second change romance, being a story filled with many additional aspects. Mainly, these aspects are in the form of drama. Who doesn’t love a good bit of drama? Honestly, the drama is wonderful. Family drama. Friend drama. Work drama. Media drama. The general drama of everyday life. It’s wonderful. There’s so much of it, and yet it’s done in such a way that it’s never overpowering. There’s always something going on, yes, and yet you’re able to look at the larger story at the same time.
It’s not just the drama of the couple you’re pulled into; you’re also pulled into the storylines of the other couples in this book. Without a doubt, I cannot wait to find out the stories behind the other characters in the Lone Star Match series. They all offer up something different, with each promising wonderful stories. I’m honestly so excited to see certain stories play out, and cannot wait to get my hands on them.
Overall, this was a wonderfully addictive read. Once it pulled me in I found it impossible to put down, needing to know how things ended. If you’re a fan of second chance romance, this is certainly a book to pick up.
Something Old by Megan Ryder is the first installment in The Lone Star Match Series.
Meet Delaney Winters and Ethan Van Owen. Delaney never had dreamt of to meet Ethan again. But now with her friends wedding coming up, also comes her past to the light. Delaney thought to do the "noble" thing by dumping Ethan, but instead she crushed his heart. My heart was aching for Ethan. He as the real victim in all this. And sometimes I wanted to take Delaney by her shoulders and tell her to open up her eyes. This times I didn´t like her very much. But in the end they get a beautiful HEA.I rate this book 4 Stars. Thank you Megan Ryder.
Delaney Winters believed she did the right thing by breaking off her engagement to Ethan Van Owen when it was discovered her father was a criminal. But now, she finds herself back among her old friends; friends she hasn't seen in a while, for her best friend's wedding. Can she overcome the past to have a second chance with Ethan, or will history repeat itself and send Delaney running away from the man she still loves?
Ms. Ryder does it again by writing a spell-binding read that I found I got so wrapped up in that I was at the end of this book way sooner than I thought I'd be. The way this story began grabbed my attention immediately, and had me wanting to know more about the heroine. Why did she isolate herself from everyone that cared about her? Would going to this wedding help her heal from the hurts of her past, or tear them wide open again? But what I liked most about the beginning of this story is when the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time, because it's palpable they both still love each other, and yet, it's hard for Ethan to forgive and forget what Delaney did, and the only way he can is to discover why she broke up with him.
The dialogue was compelling, and I loved the matchmaking efforts by Delaney's best friend, because Ethan and Delaney weren't the only couple she was trying to help. Will Delaney's best friend be able to bring everyone together again, so they're as happy as she is with the man she's soon to marry? Moreover, the story was very intense and entertaining due to the main characters back stories and their relationship history. Can they really have a second chance after so much heartbreak? Then there's the heroine's past that made me feel sorry for her, because she blames herself for what her father had to do to support their family. How could she possibly believe it was her fault?
Both the main characters entertained me from start to finish with their banter, their back stories and their growing relationship. Will they reunite and get their second chance, or will people's judgment of Delaney's past have her running scared again and continue to keep them apart? The heroine is resilient, brave and I liked how she picked up the pieces of her life after her world was turned upside down. She did everything possible to help her mom get through the tough times, even when she was still being treated unfairly by those that she once considered friends. Furthermore, I felt sorry for her when it came to Ethan's family. His father and stepmother aren't above manipulating him to get what they want, which made it just as hard for the hero and heroine to be together. Why couldn't they realize that the only way Ethan would be happy was with Delaney?
While the hero, I absolutely loved him. Delaney broke his heart, which the secondary characters aren't afraid to remind him of, because they don't want to see him hurt again. But, at the same time, he hasn't stopped loving her, so it's hard for him to stay away. Can he win her back? What will he do to win her back? Will he be happy with the sacrifice he does make? Yet, what I liked most about the hero is how he helped the heroine whenever the going got tough with her old friends that talked about her behind her back or were snarky to her face. She so didn't deserve it. Not after so much time has passed, and Delaney has been trying to make things right.
Overall, Ms. Ryder has penned a fantastic book to begin this series, which was full of romantic moments that illustrated how much these two still loved each other and how they should fight for that love no matter what. The way this story ended had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, because Ethan's dad finally did what was right for his son and then Delaney finally realized that she shouldn't allow anything to stop her from being with Ethan, especially not his father and step-mother. Luckily, she took advice from a secondary character she should probably dislike but found it hard to. I would recommend Something Old by Megan Ryder, if you enjoy second chance romances or books by authors Kate Hardy, Kelli Collins or Jeanne St. James.
How do you find strength when the world crumbles around you? Delaney has yet to figure out the answer to that question. Perhaps fate and confronting her past will provide the answers. Something Old is a second chance romance that is insightful, delightful and emotional. Ethan and Delaney allowed misunderstandings, betrayals and pride to destroy their love song. Will a wedding weekend give them the chance to rekindle their dance of love?

Something old 4.5⭐️
I love all of Megan Ryder's books that I've read and this new one did not disappoint. Something old is is a second chance romance and the first instalment in the Lone Star Match series, it is the perfect book to start the series with! We meet all the characters in this book which is about 2 friends getting married and pulling together all their old friends, who through life have drifted apart, to be in the wedding. Secretly, the bride is match making! The story focuses on Delaney and Ethan who were previously engaged but had broke up 5 years before when it was discovered Delaney's father was a criminal. Delaney and Ethan are the ultimate soulmates and destined to be together but can they overcome the past without Delaney again running away? And can Ethan trust that Delaney won't crush his heart again? This story had me hooked from the beginning and at times on edge to see what happened next. Both Delaney and Ethan were down to earth and relatable with the banter between the two and easiness of their relationship. The story between them both was entertaining yet intense all at the same time. If you like second chance romances then I'd definitely recommend this one! Megan has excelled herself and given us a great read.
I just adored this book! I had previously only read sports romances from Ms. Ryder, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book. I have to say that it completely blew away my expectations!
This is a second-chance romance done right. Delaney and Ethan were engaged, but she ended things once her family became embroiled in a scandal. Even though she loved him, she couldn't let her father's actions hurt him. Years later, they reunite for a mutual friend's wedding. While they have both changed, their feelings for each other have not. Ethan still loves her even though she broke his heart. Will they be able to move forward, or will her family's past continue to haunt their future?
The characters in this book were really fantastic. I loved both of them and completely understood the motivations behind their actions. Ethan was deeply hurt, and Delaney truly believed that she was protecting him. The writing flowed well, and there were enough romantic moments to keep me satisfied. I would have loved an epilogue, but I am greedy that way :) Ms. Ryder did a good job of incorporating the support characters as well. There was just enough that I was intrigued by their stories, but they didn't take away from the main plot of this book. I can't wait for this series to continue!!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.
Something Old is a second chance at love story. A group of friends from college are brought back together for another's wedding by. For Delaney, it's nerve wracking to even think about. She distanced herself from all of her old friends after her father was found to be a con artist & swindler. Society not only turned their backs on her & her mother but physically attacked them. She didn't want to drag her fiancée down with her so to protect him, she broke their engagement. Now she's supposed to be the maid of honor & her ex is the best man.
Ethan couldn't believe that Delaney broke up with him when she needed him most. Didn't she trust him? After she broke off the engagement, Ethan went to his family's vineyard & stayed there for several years. He's beginner no to be known as quite a vintner. Now he has to face Delaney again. Are the feelings gone? Do they take a chance at happiness?
I really enjoyed this story. The plot isn't simplistic but takes twists & turns just like real life. The characters have well developed personalities & the interactions between them all are realistic. The hurt feelings come through the writing perfectly as does the chemistry between the couples. There are a couple of sex scenes but they are tastefully done & easy to skip if you want to. I can't wait for Book 2!
Something Old is a great second chance romance. Delaney and Ethan were well written and I love the storyline and concept. This is the first book I have read by Megan Ryder but I look forward to reading many more.
Second chance romance at its best. Delaney and Ethan's story is one of trust, power and soulmates. They both go through hell and back without each other and in the end realize that nothing but their love will help them survive their future. The plot twists with his family and the wedding of their old friends is the perfect backdrop to this awesome romance. I cannot wait to read more in this series.
I received this book free for a review. I really enjoyed this book as I have all the books that I have read by this author. The characters were so real and likable. The plot has some twists and turns that kept it very interesting. If your second chance comes, grab it with both hands!
Wow! What an emotional ride! Something Old has it all! Love, passion, deceit, bitchy bride's maids, vindictive step mothers, and high society drama. I loved the pull and connection between Ethan and Delaney. A great story about learning to trust and becoming stronger. Can't wait for the rest of the series!
The perfect start to a new series...setting the tone and foundation for what to enjoy now, and will enjoy going forward. Ethan and Delaney were an excellent couple to begin the series with.
The author has created an excellent back drop for second chances. You can feel the chemistry between Ethan and Delaney...several times my heart was fully engaged in their finally getting their second chance, even though there were vicious machinations at work to keep them apart.
The vitriol and recriminations were written with such realism that I could feel the rejection, heartbreak, and embarrassment that Delaney experienced five years in the past as a result of the behind the scenes meddling. Ethan's pain was written so genuinely that it caused his hope and rejection to really hit home...leaving his sorrow so exposed.
There was such an emotional roller coaster ride throughout the story, that even though I never stopped hoping for the couples to reconcile, for a while I actually thought it wouldn't happen...that's how real the writing was.
Since I'm now so invested in the stories of the remaining bridal party, I can't wait for the second story in the series.

I really enjoyed this story. The plot takes twists and turns just like real life. The characters have well developed personalities and the interactions between them all are very realistic. The secondary characters are interesting and add to the story. The chemistry between the couples comes through. There are a couple of sex scenes that are fairly graphic but easy to skip if you want to. I can't wait for Book 2!
After her Father is arrested, Delaney walks away from her life, doing what she thinks is best for those she loves. Years later, she now finds herself maid of honor at Caroline's wedding, where she's forced to face her past, and the love she never forgot. This is the first book in the series and it draws you in, while making you fall in love with the characters, waiting for the next books!
This book was given to me an I've provided a voluntary review.
I absolutely loved this book. The idea of a second-chance romance was perfect and the novel was intense but completely enthralling and joyful. The wedding atmosphere was nostalgic but also fresh and interesting. It allowed old friends to come together to see whether a future was possible in each other's lives. A disaster separated them in the past but can a determined bride heal what has been broken in one life. Delaney had a wonderful life, but when a death shakes her whole life to the core. After making a heartbreaking decision to re-shape her life and make herself something stable and safe for herself and her mother. She is a brave lady who had to take on the responsibility of being the head of the family. This meant distancing herself from the woman she used to be and dissolving her friendships and her relationship. But what happens when one of those friends invites her to her wedding with the hopes of reliving their friendship? You get drama! Lots of great drama in a beautiful setting. I enjoyed reading about all the feelings Delaney was undergoing, as well as watching the interactions between all the former friends. Seeing how Delaney and Ethan reconnect was hot and steamy! Once they'd sorted out their past. I loved them together and did want them to learn how delicate life can be. Ethan is a god! A sexy god who would do anything for the woman he loves. Well, loved before Delaney broke his heart. He has tried his hardest to move on from the woman who held his heart and found a passion in a hobby he didn't think about. With family pressures and a friend's wedding looming, he never thought he'd see Delaney again. But when they do meet again after five years, there are sparks which fly between them. Will they light each other up or burn them to the ground? Ethan really is a hard-working young man, with a loyalty to his friends and his own family, sexy, funny and an all-round amazing guy!
This book will melt your heart and shock you. But most of all, it will make you have hope in your heart that two people can re-kindle their love even after five years.
I had really high hopes for this one and for the most part they were fulfilled until the last quarter of the book. Five years ago there was a scandal that rocked the world of the elites. Delaney and her family were in the middle of it all. She ran away then because it seemed her only option. Ethan had no idea why Delaney wouldn’t let him protect her, why he wasn’t enough for her, why she couldn’t trust him. Now, along with all their friends from that time, they are thrown together again through the wedding of two of their best friends.
You have the ever hopeful matchmaker, the typical evil step monster, the overbearing father, manipulation, lack of communication, loss of hope, etc. There is a lot going on while at the same time very little going on. It’s the same old problem, a resolution and hope, then the same old problem. Rinse and repeat. Everyone blames Delaney for abandoning them when really they all did the same thing, especially Ethan. He ran away from all the trouble and has been hiding every bit as much as Delaney. I’m still not sure that anything was really resolved at the end of the book.
Something Old is entertaining and you won’t really have much trouble finishing the story. The characters are interesting and there is enough going on, even though it’s really the same thing, that it doesn’t feel repetitious until about the fourth time around. By then you’re almost at the end. I will continue to read the books in this series, but I don’t think I’ll start the second one right away.
I really enjoyed this novel. I liked the characters and premise: a bride wants her three bridesmaids to reconnect with their lost loves. The first is her best friend, Delaney Winters, who was once a well-known socialite in Houston's upper crust high society. But, Delaney's father was the mastermind of a Ponzi scheme that bilked millions of dollars from other Houston upper crust friends. Her father went to jail and Delaney withdrew from society, including breaking her engagement to Ethan Van Owen, whose father owns a large investment firm that came under scrutiny because of Ethan's ties to Delaney.
Now, five years later. Delaney is the maid-of-honor and Ethan is the best man to their friends' wedding plans. They try to be "just friends," but their bond is too strong.
The problem I had with this book (and others like it) is the premise that the heroine sacrifices herself and her happiness because she thinks she knows better than her friends/family/lover about what's good for them. In this case, Delaney feels that her father's criminal record reflects poorly on her and, therefore, her friends should just forget they ever knew her, otherwise she'll drag them down.
Delaney left her fiance and friends 5 years ago because of her father and the things he had done. She didn't want to ruin their reputation and have them go through what she was going through. They, however, did not see it the same way she did. They took it as she didn't trust and care enough to let them be there for her.
Now her best friend Caroline is getting married and wants Delaney to be her maid of honor. Can they forget the past and rekindle friendships or will they never get things back the way they were before Delaney's father stole from others.
Ethan thinks he wants to get back with Delaney because he still loves her but can that be enough to conquer the old demons they have in the past.
This was a really good book that made you realize everyone might not have a happy ending or maybe they can.
This wasn’t a bad book but it wasn’t great either. The main characters went round and round the same problems until the very end when everything magically worked out. But what bothered me more was Ethan constantly bringing up that Delaney runs and hides but nobody acknowledges that he does the same thing! And her friends too! All of the blame is put on her but if they really wanted to be there to help her they wouldn’t have let her push them away.
I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was truly a wonderful story about second chance of love. The plot and the characters are well developed. I can't wait for more in this series. It is a great concept. The author does a fantastic job of storytelling. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
Add in one meddling bride-to-be determined to matchmake. Actually, that's a pretty good plot device, and it certainly works well here with the story of Delaney and Ethan. This is a fun romance folks, and definitely delivers what you need if your in the mood - and as such is definitely recommended.
Delaney with her head in the clouds and head over heel in love with Ethan, she breaks it off. Ethan doesn’t understand and moves away, for five years. Is it time to face her, and pick up the family business. Love may still be there but will she let him know her secret and trust that only good can come by telling him.
I liked this story. Delaney had suffered for five year, after her father had died. He had a Ponzi scheme, was arrested, but died with a heart attack before trial. They were high society, among the rich and powerful, but everyone shunned her and her mother. This is really a great story about the struggles and the coming redemption. You will enjoy this
Her father stole and then ruined their lives and then died. Delaney has survived the last five years with grit and determination. But now her best friend is getting married, and her ex fiance will be there and she still loves him. Ethan has never gotten over Delaney, but they are both different now. But there's still a chance.....
Omg what an absolutely amazing heart felt book by this author. She knows how to kept you hooked and not able to put it down that's for sure. The characters were so great and wonderful. The chemistry they had was intense and so great. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
First book I've read by Megan. Wow. My heart felt like it went to a boxing match. I could feel the hate, love, rejection. Very good book, all-in-all. The characters were well written as well as the story line.
Delaney and Ethan were engaged until her father is exposed as a scammer. Give years later they are together again for the wedding of their best friends. Will they rekindle their love or at least get closure?
