This is an all-around good introduction to the things a beginning watercolor painter will want to know. I wish that some of the subjects had been given a bit more depth, but the information provided is solid, clear, helpful. It's a reference book, so you can skip around, but it's been designed to lead you through the process from getting paints and brushes, to designing compositions by considering perspective, values, colors, and techniques.

I recommend this book to those who want to try watercolor painting, but need help finding out how to get set up, understand a bit about design and color, and then try their hand at painting.

This is a very good reference book for anyone of any skill levels. While I knew many of these techniques, there were still good pointers and tutorials. That said, I learned new techniques as well and was given lots of ideas. If nothing else, this could be good for inspiration! Worth keeping by all your other art supplies!

This is a decent beginner's reference.

The author touches on many, many aspects of watercolor, but she does only touch on them. While this is sufficient for novice techniques, this is also the reason that I did not get much out of the advanced techniques section. They are explained, but not in a way that I feel I could replicate.

While this book seems to be designed so that any level artist may benefit, having done some watercolor in the past is the only way you will understand some of what the author describes. This is, of course, the nature of the medium; if someone could describe a painting in words to such a degree that you could perfectly picture it in your head, well, then we wouldn't need the painting. However, I think it's important to note if you are looking to this book to help get you started, you may want to look to something with more exercises and tutorials in beginning techniques.

I think this is a good book to be used in combination with others...as a reference. Do not expect to be inspired. It explains a lot about color and composition, more to make you aware that you should be concerned with such things rather than to explain them in detail. If you have no idea what supplies you need, this is a good introduction, and may I suggest Cheap Joe's online store (this can be an expensive hobby if you don't know where to buy).

A nice spiral bound book which takes the beginner step by step through the sometimes bewildering world of the watercolour medium.

We begin with the basics, choosing colours and format (pan or tube), papers, brushes and basic mixing before moving on to techniques: washes, dropping in, brushwork, blending, masking, scratching, lifting out, wet on wet and wet on dry, hard and soft edges, underdrawing and altering, salt spatter, spongeing, wax, line and wash, mixed media and hints and tips.

Each technique is nicely explained beginning with an introduction and moving on to step by step instructions with clear easy to follow photographs. Inbetween are analysis pages with a large sized photograph of a watercolour painting preceeded by a smaller version labelled with the techniques used in the painting.

The final section is on subjects, divided into landscape, waterscapes, buildings, still life and people with plenty of inspiration and tips.

This book had a lot of really great, practical advice with good examples and how-to's provided throughout. I liked that a lot of the tips were often in seperated, highlighted sections for quick reference.

I would definitely read more of Marilyn Scott's books.

unlike some books that can get bogged down in lots of rigmarole. This one was light and easy to read. Made me want to get my paints out again..

Ma asteptam sa contina lucruri si mai de baza despre tehnica picturii in acuarela.
As fi vrut sa discute mai mult despre pensule, tehnici, culori.
