In 1925, Tim Mara, a bookmaker (a legal occupation at the time), as well as a successful businessman and promoter, purchased the New York Giants for $500. That year the city of New York was introduced to professional football by a Giants team that lost its first three games, but finished 8-4. In the ensuing 80 years, the Giants have been one of the country''s most popular and successful professional sports franchises. The Giants have played more than 1,100 games, won approximately 600 of them, finished in first place a record 20 times and won six championships. Many of the most influential men to ever appear on the pro football landscape, and many of the game''s great players, have been Giants, including Wellington Mara, Steve Owen, Mel Hein, Vince Lombardi, Frank Gifford, Roosevelt Brown, Y.A. Tittle, Lawrence Taylor and, more recently, Tiki Barber and Michael Strahan. No National Football League team has a richer history than the Giants.
This book is about the New York Giants and the great moments that make this team so historic in sports. I really enjoyed this book being a giants fan and for the fact that in 2009 the giants and jets stadium will close and they will move to a new home to play their game at. So i really liked going back in time almost and recalling all of these great moments that happened. I also like seeing how much history was made during the time that i was a giants and a long time ago before i was even born. i recommend this book to anyone who likes the Giants and wants to know some history about them.
