If there is one thing that can help relieve health anxiety, it's finding out that you're not alone.
Do you constantly get anxious about your health and seek reassurance?Have you found yourself analysing every single sensation in your body? Are you spending time on the internet always looking for answers?Do you have heart palpatations that make you think you're having a heart attack?Does that impending heart attack give you a panic attack? Are you still not dead? You can rest assured it's not just you! Philip Martins was once a hypochondriac and has survived, among other things, cancer, motor neurone disease, meningitis, multiple sclerosis and having been bitten by a mosquito once, malaria. In this book he tells you how he got through his years of health anxiety, provides some anecdotes of his crazier times to cheer you up and gives you some tips all in the hope that it can bring a little relief to help you realise you're not alone. If you have health anxiety and are looking for something to relate to then this is the book for you.
3.5⭐️ while this short little book didn't offer anything to alleviate "health anxiety", it did provide relatable experiences that had me throwing my hands up "I DO THIS!" It's nice to know you're not alone... or dying from the chronic headache etc
Good quick read, putting everything in perspective.
It's a good read. Philip tells you his story in his own words. What worked for him might not work for you, but you learn that the health anxiety can go away, if you learn to control those feelings and thoughts. Taking the first steps are the hardest, but the end result is better than what you're feeling now.
I have health anxiety and this book was a very helpful read. It’s not a long book by any stretch of the imagination nor is it very detailed but as a starter point for people who have been recently diagnosed then it does the job.
Finally something I can relate to and finally I can find the symptoms I worry about the most on a list that will actually calm me down instead of throwing me into an endless rabbit hole of possibilities, like googling it would. The author is very open about his experience and is very focused on making you feel okay and like you're not alone with this and like you will make it through eventually. I can only recommend this book, especially for the price I got it at (4€). It was more than worth it. Also got what I think is the sequel to this and I can not wait to devour it. Both very short reads, about an hour (with several crying breaks), so if you'd feel overwhelmed by all the different books on this topic with a more medical approach, or if those just dont feel like what you need right now (like it was for me), I feel like this is definitely a great, actually more than great, one to start with, might even be enough for now. Who knows.
I would give this book infinite stars… truly. This book has helped me beyond words. It pinpoints exactly how I feel, my experiences, feeling crazy, feeling like a burden, etc. It helped me to see, I check every single box, that what I’m feeling is valid and I’m not alone in my feelings. It has been so helpful to hear from someone else who KNOWS what I’m going through. It’s a very different perspective than a doctor or therapist. It gives me hope that I can get through it too. We are not alone in this craziness and we can get through it!
Having a mild form of health anxiety, which has got worse due to the pandemic, I found this book at the right time before it manifests. The author explains health anxiety really well, having suffered from it and great to see there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I’m currently in the thick of it and found this to be a fun way to dive into self help books regarding the topic of health anxiety. Very well written, funny and insightful-thank you
great book and relatable for a hypochondriac like me.
Great anecdotes, which is too relatable! This book somehow gave a sense of relief that I am not alone and other people experience what I am currently experiencing.
I am so relieved to have found this , it helped knowing I'm not the only one with these horrendous thoughts and feelings. The list at the end is so helpful. I actually managed to laugh too .
Read this book in just over an hour. It made me laugh and feel less alone. Definitely worth a read, it’s a short book but I enjoyed it as it was straight to the point!
