Declan O’Brien was always driven to take his place among Philly’s elite, working hard for everything he’s earned, including the title of Assistant District Attorney. He’s won seemingly impossible cases, so he’s furious when he’s assigned to lead the one unit he doesn’t want.

Melissa Fenske was born hearing impaired to a neglectful mother, finding solace when she was adopted by a young attorney, now Declan’s boss. As the current Director of Victim Services, Melissa’s livid when Declan is placed in the main unit she oversees. She can’t forget their disastrous first encounter. Or shake how he makes her feel.

Declan considers the assignment another step toward his political aspirations, despite that he can’t get Melissa out of his mind. Melissa sees Declan as egotistical and self-serving, kicking herself for how fast she’s falling for him. Someone as hot, smooth, and perfect as Declan isn’t supposed to want her.

In another situation with any other woman, Declan wouldn’t hesitate to take Melissa to bed. But she is the boss’s daughter, and for once, Declan finds himself wanting more than just a one night stand.

Neither counted on each other. Both just met their match.

Ever since their disastrous first encounter, Melissa and Declan have sparked my curiosity. I was thoroughly entertained by the pair, especially as Declan continued to put his foot in his mouth lol Melissa is my kind of heroine. She is stable and confident in who she is but has understandable fears and insecurities like the rest of us. Declan was a strong lead, persistent and sexy as hell to boot. He has a good heart but it might take a second look to notice the subtleties. While I admit that Declan was not my favorite towards the end of the book due to some of his actions, he still showed growth and was developed well.

Ms. Robson has a talent for weaving tales that continue to impress. She creates these unique and complex characters that are in no way perfect but that manage to claim their own little space in my heart. The writing and editing is excellent. The pacing, imagery, and plotting strong and executed well. The book evokes emotion and has some humor. The sexy is off the scale :-p With this writer you get the full package.

Safety: No others for either, though interest by others is evident. Yes to rape and abuse.

4 When Ambition Can Blind You Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free
Throughout the O'Brien Family series, we always had Declan as the One who was going to make a name for himself... the One who had all his plans laid out. All Declan needed to do was stay the course, keep being successful with his prosecutions and the DA's office would be his start up the political ladder.

The family knew this was his destiny and so far he was on target. However, all this ambition and drive came with a price. When he saw what his father's behavior did to his mother, he decided then and there, his brothers and sister were going to be cared for...He may not have started working like his older brother to help support them but he did provide additional hands in looking after them and helping Ma. He was the strict one, guiding them and watching out for them. The family knew he was the one who needed to be in school and fulfill his dreams, so the kids obeyed and listened.

Over the years, Declan has seen many changes in his brothers... they are happier with the addition of the women they love. He looks at these siblings and sees the joy they have just being together with the ones they love. It makes him sad, though, because Declan doesn't believe in Love... at least not for him... He believes his life's work has no room for that and has made peace with it.

Now that does not mean Declan is living the life of a Monk...Not in any way...Declan is buff, handsome and charming. He knows how to flirt and does it oh, so well. He will enjoy the lithe, model types who love to give him their numbers. He makes a practice of only a "date" or two, then on to the next.

There is one person who has caught his eye and every time he comes in contact with her, his charming ways do not work. Instead he comes across like a real jerk. It is truly annoying because it just turns out this beautiful woman who has gotten under his skin, and not in a good way, is the daughter of the current DA.

Melissa Fenske would agree; Declan O'Brien is a jerk. He is arrogant, has legions of women wanting to bed him and he smiles at every single one of them. Working with this man is going to be extremely annoying but her father is not well and placed Declan as the acting DA while he is away on medical leave. Melissa is in charge of the Special Victims Advocacy Group. It is a hard unit to work. Seeing day after day, abused women or sexually assaulted kids causes major burnout with attorneys. This is not where Declan thought he was going to be when moving to a new division... he thought it would be his dream, Homicide.

So here we have Declan in a position that was not on his ambitious mapped out plan... and then there's Melissa who will have to show him the ropes of how to deal with these difficult cases. Couple all of that with the chemistry these two have and the fight to not cross any lines.

Melissa is a woman who can hold her own and is strong. What she had to live through to become this strong was not easy. She was born hearing impaired to a mother who was a drug addict. When Melissa was 6, the mother tried to sell her to a man for drugs. Melissa escaped but was almost put into foster care...Instead the attorney handling her case fell hard for this little broken girl and adopted her. Once she learned to trust her new dad, the two of them bonded and were devoted to each other. School was not easy for Melissa; kids were cruel. But she was smart and rose above the pain becoming a victims advocate.

Melissa and Declan fight their feelings for each other until they cannot. Their times together are sexy and can be very loving. Melissa is a character to admire and root for...and we do.

Declan was a bit more difficult. He was cocky, sure of his sex appeal. He sometimes came across a little too sure of himself...We did get his back story and insight as to why he thought the way he did but I found his situation harder to care about then most of the other siblings from past books.
He did redeem himself in the end...and that is always important. We also got delicious slices of the other O'Brien's in this tale which always makes my day.

With a family of 7...we still have two other brothers to learn about...so I will be looking for more with this Family.

An emotional story that hooked me from the start and I couldn’t put it down until the very sweet end.

As one of the oldest of seven siblings, Declan always saw himself as one of his family’s providers and protectors, driven to succeed in public office first as District Attorney and perhaps mayor to obtain the power to safeguard his family and the people of his city. He’s worked hard to get his A.D.A. tittle and is less than happy when his boss moves him to lead the unit no one wants, especially knowing he’ll have to interact on a daily basis with the boss’s daughter. The only woman who hates his guts and who he can’t stop fantasizing about.
“This isn’t lust. Lust is too damn easy. This is different. Who am I kidding? Everything I feel for Melissa is different, including the way I want to kiss her… and do a hell of a lot more.”

Born with severe hearing loss and to a careless mother, Melissa Fenske’s early childhood seemed more than bleak, but turned completely around when she was rescued and adopted by the current D.A. whose health issues have forced him to place Declan in the same unit with his daughter. Melissa isn’t blind and can clearly see how much the gorgeous attorney affects the female population including herself, Good thing she can’t stand his arrogance and selfishness. Can she keep a safe distance from the smart, resource and kind man she’s getting to know?
“It’s a good heart, strong and honest, but tender when it need to be just like its owner.”
“You’re giving me too much credit,”
I tell her.

It was so fun to see how the sexy, self-assured Declan kept putting his foot in his mouth whenever he was around Melissa until he didn’t and then flat out started pursuing her despite his abhorrence to relationships lasting longer than a night, a shortcoming that will eventually cost him. Melissa is an easy character to like and respect. She’s driven, sweet, nurturing, she wholeheartedly cares about the people she helps, she’s confident, yet imperfect because of reasonable insecurities. Oh and did I mention she loves to read smutty historical novels? And Declan indulges her!! Absolutely delicious and fun!

I was all for Declan’s charm and alpha sexiness, as a whole tough, he’s not easy to like. But I found myself cheering for them along with the loud, unfiltered and rowdy O’Brien family who I loved to catch up with, as Declan and Melissa’s relationship grew and they began to fill each other’s lives sweetly, sexily and completely. They balanced each other perfectly.
“All this darkness I deal with every time I sit at my desk would be impossible to push through without Mel. In the few weeks we’ve worked together, she’s become my salvation.”
_____________________________________
“This is my favorite side of him, the one who teases and plays, and proves there’s more to this man than ambition.”

Except for the ending which felt a bit rushed but I attribute this to me wanting more, the story flowed effortlessly, the characters were well developed and the plot, which dealt with sad and dreadful matters such as abuse, was well executed and handled with respect.

Feel Me is book #4 in the O’Brien Family series by Cecy Robson. It is a standalone contemporary romance. Told from both points of view with a happy ending.

This series has come with highs and lows for me, but throughout, one thing has been constant: I've been eagerly awaiting Declan O'Brien's arrival.

description

In the previous books we've seen poor old Declan put his foot firmly in his mouth with the D.A's daughter, Melissa but when they're forced to work together--her as Director of Victim Services and he as the not entirely willing leading attorney of that unit--then their whole relationship is taken to another level.

"We work together. This can’t possibly end well."

Mel and Declan are two peas in a pod: strong and driven, they each have a stubborn side yet also one of vulnerability, but when they let themselves go a little you begin to discover that underneath their armour is a softness, and in each other they truly have met their matches.

"With Mel...I’m in a whole different playing field."

Cecy Robson packs an emotional punch with this story and, taking it down an unpredictable path, Feel Me worked hugely for me. But, for all the moments that pull on your heartstrings, there are those that lift it, courtesy of the loud, loveable and rapidly extending O'Brien clan who are hilarious and without a filter. There is one single brother left, Seamus--whether he's to get his story I don't know, but if not, Declan and Mel have ended the series on a real high for me.

Office romances don't always work for me. Feel Me did. I am a happy bunny.

Declan O'Brien appointed A.D.A is smooth, women love him and he loves women. But there is one woman who doesn't fall for his charms. The less she falls the more he wants her.

I didn’t always like our male lead in this book but he grew on me and in the end I was rooting for me. He did try to make up in the grovel department but not enough for me to be honest.

Melissa Fenske doesn't like Declan she thinks that he is unsuitable for the job and maybe in the beginning he is.

Melissa is a fantastic female lead I love books where either one of the main characters has a disability. Melissa is hearing impaired add a tough start to life and as a character I admire her.

Declan wants it all. D.A for Homicide not SACU. Mayor and even Senator. There is a spanner in his works. He wants Melissa but he is a slight commitment-phobe. And eventually he screws it up.

Feel Me left me raw, emotionally drained and a mess yet despite all that, the sap in me always loves to see that love really can conquer all.

Our MC as a couple complement one another. Ms. Robson has a unique writing style that pulls you into the loud, boisterous in your business Catholic family. I personally love every single moment of their antics. In saying that though Wren is MY favorite O'Brien. Major girl crush going on here.

Although we get an Epilogue the ending and our couple making up felt somewhat abrupt.

On a side matter note the author did a fantastic job of being tasteful and respectful and what the survivors of such hideous crimes go through.

When I read Wren’s book 3 I said I’d backtrack and read 1 & 2 but I never did. I have now bought book 1 to read.

This is the story of . . .
Assistant District Attorney, soon-to-be acting D.A., Declan is an ambitious and career driven man. He cares about two things, his family and his job. After watching his father throw away the love his mother and his siblings, Declan has a skewed view of love. Mainly that he doesn’t believe in it. He’s your typical commitment-phobe and cynic. His whole life has been about getting ahead, getting promoted and reaching his end goal of one day running for office.
When his boss leaves him in charge of the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit, Declan isn’t happy. Not when everyone knows he was gunning for head of Homicide instead. But he respects his mentor’s choice and agrees to hold his own temporarily.
The promotion brings him into direct contact with Melissa, his mentor’s daughter and a woman he can’t stop thinking about. Melissa is hearing impaired and a disastrous first meeting pretty much draws the line of animosity between them. Melissa is the opposite of Declan, having been neglected and abandoned by her biological mother because of her special needs and later adopted by her father, Melissa sees proof every day that love exists.
This is a story of a romantic and a cynic giving in to their sizzling attraction and finding out love is powerful mojo but not without it’s own hardships and challenges.

What I liked about it:
That our h wasn’t a push over. Melissa was a strong character, yes she has her insecurities but she also has an all-consuming passion to help others, her 100% devotion to her father, and her selflessness to be needed all made her a heroine you want to root for.
Declan on the other hand took some getting used to. He doesn’t beat around the bush when it comes to realizing what he feels for Melissa is special because right from the start he admits she makes him feel things no one ever has. What takes him a while to get around to is his desire to take that next step into a committed relationship. His hot/cold behavior and that whole Thanksgiving scene was painful to read. The only saving grace to that scene was the backbone Melissa displays. She calls him out on it and gives him the chance to finally dig his head out of the sand about where they stand.
There were great supporting characters here but the most prominent were Declan’s family, the O’Briens. They were loud, crude and foul mouthed but I loved their genuine love for family. Wren, Fin, and Curran were definitely interesting characters.

What I loved about it:
The freaking epilogue was so sweet! Seriously a good story can be made great with the right epilogue and this was a nice touch by the author to reassure us that Declan and Melissa are still in love and still going strong. I loved that ending.

Memorable Moments:
Besides the adorable epilogue, I have to be honest and say that Melissa and Declan together were explosive. Seriously that limo ride was just one of many titillating scenes. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself re-reading a few passages. 

SAFETY
Ages: We know Declan is 35 but Melissa never mentions her own age but I’d put her in the same age range as Declan.
Cheating: None
OM/OW drama: Minor OM/OW drama.
Separation: One long separation of a month and a shorter separation towards the end of a week. Both remained celibate while apart.
Push/Pull Mostly from Declan because of his relationship hang-ups but Melissa pulls away at one point too.
Main Pursuer of relationship: Declan is the main pursuer of the relationship. Both times they separate he is also the one to go after her. Normally if there is going to be push and pull I want them both to equally fight for each other but I felt that Declan’s actions warranted him having to prioritize and put Melissa first.
Triggers: As mentioned before, both Declan and Melissa work with victims of abuse. Mention of sexual assault and molestation against minors, death of a child and parent neglect is mentioned.
HEA/HFN: Ends with a HEA and acute baby epilogue.

I really enjoyed this book. Melissa is hearing impaired and had a traumatic event happen in her childhood. As an adult, she fights for victims rights. Declan is the acting DA and has to work on some cases with Melissa. There are some really good steamy scenes and this couple has fantastic chemistry. A little more angsty than I was prepared for but overall a really good book!

Feel Me is the latest release in Cecy Robson's O'Brien Family series and I've been I've been looking forward to Declan and Melissa's book ever since we saw their first meeting. I love the way confident Declan, the man who can charm any woman he comes into contact with, constantly puts his foot in his mouth around Melissa. He's the kind of guy that has women falling all over him but when it comes to Melissa he gets so flustered and makes all the wrong moves and it was just so funny to see him wrong footed all the time.

Declan is one of the oldest O'Briens and after the death of his father he was determined to do whatever he could to look after his mother and younger siblings. He has put everything into his career to achieve that goal and is now one of the youngest Assistant District Attorneys in Philly, his goals don't end there though and he continues to focus on his goal of eventually becoming mayor. Declan doesn't believe in love, he saw the way his father treated his mother and is convinced that relationships aren't worth the effort so he's very careful never to get involved with anyone who wants more than a couple of nights of fun. The latest step in his career ladder puts him in charge of the department Melissa works for, the attraction he feels for her is intense but there is no way he'd ever get involved with anyone he works with, especially not his boss's daughter.

Melissa is the head of Victim Services, it's her job to give a voice to people who need it most and her background means she is uniquely qualified for the role. Born hearing impaired to a drug addicted mother Melissa didn't get the best start in life but everything changed for her when she was adopted by Miles Fenske, the current District Attorney and Declan's boss. Her previous interactions with Declan haven't left a good impression and she has concerns about his ability to interact with vulnerable women and children she works with every day. Declan may not have made a good first impression but it doesn't take long for Melissa to realise that she was wrong about him and to discover how well they work together. Close proximity increases the attraction between them but Melissa would be crazy to risk a relationship with a man who doesn't believe in love. Wouldn't she?

I loved both of these characters and Melissa was fantastic, she's confident in her abilities and doesn't let her hearing impairment hamper her in any way. She has fears and insecurities like any woman but overall she sees what she wants and she goes after it. It was great to read about a heroine with a disability where her hearing impairment is just a part of her character and not something she was defined by, of course it effected her day to day life but it was never made into a big deal or a source of conflict in the story. Declan was the right mix of cocky alpha male with a vulnerable side. The way he kept getting things wrong around Melissa made him easier to relate to and stopped him from being too full of himself. I enjoyed the banter between him and his siblings and the way they all teased him about his growing feelings for Melissa, it was fun to catch up with the others and see how they're all getting on with their lives.

Feel Me is another brilliant instalment to the series and I'm looking forward to seeing the remaining brothers get their own happily ever after.

Book Review For: Feel Me by Cecy Robson 'Feel Me' by Cecy Robson is book is book Four in the 'O'Brien Family" series. This is the story of Declan O’Brien and Melissa Fenske. I have not yet read the other books in this series so for me this was a standalone series. Melissa was cut a bad deal early on in life. Besides having hearing issues she was gonna be sold by her mother for drug money. But Melissa was a fighter and got away..that is when she met her now adopted father Miles. Miles gave her love and she learned to communicate better.. so he is her rock. Now in the present day we find that he has cancer and will be stepping down at his position as the District Attorney. Her father has Declan in mind to fill his position, which upsets Melissa. Melissa finds Declan to be arrogant and knows that he wants to be the Head of Homicide and not The Sexual Assault And Child Abuse unit. Her dad tells her that since she is the Head of Victim services she can work with him to better understand the job. But she now knows her Dad is sick and settles do what he ask, even if it means working with Declan. Declan is upset that he is being moved to The Sexual Assault And Child Abuse unit but once he learns that Miles is stepping down do to his health issue he goes forward with the position if it is temporary. Melissa and Declan have been attracted to each other for awhile but since they both don't act on it. Declan doesn't believe in Love and doesn't do relationships. Melissa has a preconception about Declan that she quickly learns isn't how he is...but is he a forever kind of guy? This is my first book by this author and I find that I want to read this whole series...along with any other books she has written! Its great find a new author to follow. My English review

I love Cecy Robson and this series, like all the others, is always a treat to follow! I’m a little late but I was excited to get into Feel Me, the fourth volume of the saga.

We discover Melissa, a deaf young woman who really did not have an easy childhood and is now working with her adoptive father in the department of victims of abuse, mainly for women and children. But then, things will change when one day her father, sick, decides to retire and leave his place to Declan O’Brien. To say that Declan is not happy with this new assignment is saying a lot, especially as he wanted to be in the homicide department. But that is still a promotion and he hopes to evolve very quickly in this job.

The feelings between Declan and Melissa are quite difficult … Declan has always collected relationships but her new collaborator is different. It is difficult but sometimes touching to see them hesitate, to try without knowing what will happen. It is true that I really wanted to shake Declan so that he realizes the effect of his actions but it is also what will make him evolve and realize what he is doing exactly. Melissa is really sweet and her work with these women or children is really touching and especially important for her. She is a very strong person and despite everything that happens in her entourage, she tries to do everything she can to help others.

Our two heroes are going to have to deal with matters that you suspect will not be simple and I confess that I did not expect such turns of events. In short, once again the author has succeeded in taking me completely into her narrative and I can only advise you to try the books!

Feel Me was such a good read.

The storyline was well written, the plot was emotional, heartfelt and held my interest all throughout the book.

The main characters Declan and Melissa were strong, likable characters that I easily connected with, they captured my heart with their story.
I loved watching their relationship unfold, they had a strong attraction but every time they found themselves in the same room Declan would somehow say something to offend/annoy Melissa and they'd end up arguing and hurting each other. Declan just couldn't help himself lol
These two made me laugh, they made me swoon, Declan frustrated me one more than one occasion but never once did I think they didn't belong together.
Declan was convinced love and a happily ever after wasn't on the cards for him but the more time he got to spend with Melissa the more he fell in love with her, suddenly life without this beautiful, passionate woman was not the life he wanted.
These two truly belonged together.

Neither counted on each other. Both just met their match. .... ALL THE YESes!

Declan O’Brien is a driven man. He's driven by passion for success. That is all he has time for in life. Romantic entanglements get in the way of his path. His path to do better. Be better. Always striving. And then Melissa Fenske happened ...

If you've read this series from the beginning (which you absolutely do not have to to understand Declan or his family but you should because, awesome) then you've met Declan and you know exactly what I mean by driven. Every move he makes in his career is for the sole purpose of some day having a political career. When the opportunity arises for him to step in as acting District Attorney, he is ALL about it ... until he finds out it is not in the division he was hoping for and until he finds out he'll be working closely with the woman who stirs things up for him he'd rather not be stirred :)

I found Declan and Melissa very passionate. Declan is a major case of alpha arrogance and Melissa is an independent, strong-willed woman. Put them both together and you have fireworks! They are two sides of the same coin. They fit perfectly. They were to each other exactly what each needed. Their story was truly full of heart. I loved every second of it.

I'm looking forward to reading the journeys of the rest of the O'Brien siblings!

Excellent book! I so enjoyed reading this one. I really like how the main character isn't perfect and how they don't have the perfect relationship but find ways to make it work. I also loved the family interactions in this series. Family series are awesome. I love getting to know all the members.
Cecy Robson is a great author and writes awesome books. If your looking for a new read try out this series.

I stayed up late last night to finish this because I was so wrapped up in Declan and Melissa and I was in tears and I had to know what would happen for them.

Declan and Melissa have a tenuous relationship. Their very first meeting was a complete disaster and every time they've seen each other since it's been awkward and uncomfortable. I know, you're thinking why don't they just avoid being around each other? Well, they can't because Declan is the ADA and his boss is Melissa's dad. Don't forget that Melissa works in tandem with the DAs office in the SACU. So naturally, they are bound to be in each other's company, especially since Deck has been promoted to being in charge of the SACU.

This is when things start heating up between them. Deck can't stop thinking of Melissa and the more she works with him and gets to know him, the harder she is falling for him. But Melissa isn't one to fall easily. She had a horrible early childhood until she was adopted and the fact that she's hearing impaired hasn't made her life any easier. But Declan isn't much better in accepting their relationship is more than it is either. He never expected to fall in love, marry and have a family. He's been the one who has kept the family together...I loved Wren calling him a sheepdog, and Finnie's explanation of her saying that was priceless! Things go south with Mel and Deck and we wonder if they can ever make it work. Yes, I'm leaving out TONS of stuff, but if I told you it would take away from the beauty and heartbreak of this story.

Despite the angst and tears with Declan and Melissa, there were some lighter moments. I LOVE when the whole O'Brien family gets together! They are a hoot! Honestly, I'm itching to get Angus's book. Please tell me he gets one. I'm begging. I don't know if I want him to find someone new or fall in love with Molly (you'd understand that if you read these books LOL). Curran and Tess are adorable and Wren still has no filter :) They've all got a place in my heart.

I knew this would be amazing when I started it. Cecy Robson did not disappoint. I've loved everything I've read by her, several are on my favorites list, including this one. The epilogue was perfect and had me in more tears :) I can not wait for the next one!

3.5 Stars

The idea of a hearing impaired heroine was interesting. I also really liked that this was a factor in their relationship, in who Melissa is, but not a deal breaker. This appealed to me, as it was nice to see a heroine who was less than the "ideal" but still the heroine of the story, and perfect for Declan, the hero. I really liked that.

Oddly, though, I thought there were times when the hearing loss that she deals with was too much of a non-issue. Places where I thought it should have been addressed and it wasn't. It was a minor thing, but it was there.

I enjoyed the chemistry between Declan and Melissa. I liked that I believed in him, and in his attraction to her, that he really wanted to be involved with her, that he cared about her, and the interest had nothing to do with her being deaf and everything to do with her being a woman.

I thought the pacing was mostly good, although I thought the story took a long time to get going and that there were a couple of extra characters that were not necessary and slowed down the progression of the romance. Once I got farther into the story, I was able to enjoy it and I liked it.

I do recommend this overall.

I have enjoyed all of Cecy Robson's O'Brien books, but Feel Me is close to my heart. Melissa, our heroine, is hearing impaired. The nuances of being hearing impaired that she shares in the book are things that I deal with daily. The frustration of hearing aids, the oddness of plunging yourself into a silent world, the daily struggle of communication...Everything Melissa mentioned had me feeling less alone in my personal struggle with hearing loss.

As if that wasn't enough to make me adore Melissa, her job as a victims advocate makes it impossible not to love her. She helps people through the most traumatic event in their life and guides them through the judicial process to help them get justice and closure. It is a very emotionally draining job that most people could never do. And if that isn't enough, her backstory will make you want to hug her tight. She is tough on Declan, but not without reason.

Declan is power hungry. He has been focused on being head DA of homicide, then mayor, and maybe one day, governor. So, when he is assigned as the DA for SACU, he is pissed. But, he has a great deal of respect for Melissa's father, the current DA. But, he and Melissa had a disastrous first meeting and he has been putting his foot in his mouth every time he sees her from then on. But, he is attracted to Melissa. Not his usual type, he finds himself thinking that maybe love isn't a myth.

My struggle with the story was Declan. He has such a painful past that he refuses to believe that love is in the cards for him. This past pain prevents him from really being all in with Melissa. I wanted to shake him! I get that his dad was a jerk who cheated on his mom, but he has 3 siblings who have found real love! He hurts Melissa, even though that wasn't his plan, because he can't get past his hang ups. It was such a dichotomy to Melissa who had spent her life with struggles and kept pushing through. Declan was paralyzed by his own fear of love.

Like all of Robson's books, the characters of Feel Me are complex and dynamic, the emotions are raw and real, and the ending is sweet and heartwarming.

Declan tries to bring one of his woman's fantasies to life, “or a pirate on the seven seas, my bare chest exposed to the wicked winds.” He bows his head. “And if you want the truth, I don’t even own a kilt.” I cover my mouth. “But I’m not so bad. And if it’s the kind of thing that turns you on, I’m sure I can find a place that rents a**less chaps.” I love the O'Brien family they're loud, chaotic, and flipping crazy, "Declan barely blinks. “This is Melissa and her father, Miles,” he announces. “Show some class for once in your lives and be nice to them.” An array of “eff you’s” “I have goddarn class” and other such colorful references overpower my hello." Declan likes to think he's a funny man, “when you say, ‘all right’, do you mean suggestive and wild, like we just had sex in the back of a limo?” I loved reading this book, I love the O'Brien family.

Melissa Fenske is the hearing impaired head of Victim Services working with the head of the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit, or SACU for short, run by her father District Attorney Miles Fenske. Melissa's father has a recurrence of his cancer and he has asked Declan O'Brien to take over SACU and become acting District Attorney in his place. Melissa is amused by the way that every other woman in the building practically swoons when Declan walks past, okay he might be tall, blonde and handsome but his personality leaves a lot to be desired. Melissa isn't Miles' biological daughter, her mother was a drug addict and tried to sell her for drugs money when she was a child, Miles was a police officer who helped rescue Melissa and went on to adopt her. But her early childhood, her hearing impairment and the bullying she endured at school as a result of her delayed speech have meant that Melissa finds it difficult to trust others.

Declan O'Brien is a young Assistant District Attorney, ever since the first time he met Melissa he has managed to say or do something to embarrass himself. Declan wants to be head of the Murder Unit or Violent Crimes, not SACU. He has big political ambitions for Mayor and beyond, but when he realises that Miles is asking him to do this because his cancer has returned he accepts the position. Declan is the second oldest of seven children, his mother brought them up single-handed whilst their father went to live with his mistress. Despite the happy marriages/ relationships of his sister and two of his brothers he just doesn't believe that love can conquer all, in fact he doesn't believe in love full stop.

Together Declan and Melissa work a series of cases involving child abuse and sexual assault. They try to keep things professional between them but eventually give into their feelings. But can a man who doesn't believe in love and a woman who can't trust others really have a long-term relationship?

Although this is the fourth book in the series it can easily be read as a stand-alone, I did. However, I wonder whether some of the early interactions, such as what Declan said when he first met Melissa, were included in previous books which may have shed more light on the relationship.

I liked this but I didn't love it. It felt as though the book was more about:

1. Melissa's hearing impairment and how it felt and affected her life (don't get me wrong, I liked this and thought it was very insightful);
2. The stories of various victims of child abuse; and
3. Melissa and Declan having sex in various public places

than the development of the romance between them. In fact, both their original antagonism and their subsequent falling in love seem to happen off-screen as if there isn't enough time to show the reader what is happening which is a pity because otherwise I enjoyed the writing.

I am intrigued to read the other books in this series, featuring Declan's brothers and sister.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

description
And feel I did….
This series has had my heart from the first story and Mel and Declan’s story began way back then so I was more than ready to dive into this read. Each read has been a warm hug of emotion, family, laughter and all the feels I could ask for. This one is my new favourite!
“I’m just me, a woman who works hard, wants to do the right thing, and likes romance novels with shirtless pirates on them.”
And Melissa (Mel) was someone easy to love. As anyone who lives a life, there are personal struggles and challenges and Mel is no exception. How she meets them head on – with humour and tears and a quiet steadfastness – is what makes her extraordinary. Her choice in reading material is pretty darn great too! And Declan, like me, can’t resist her….
“…women who fixate on his a** like the winning lottery numbers are scrolled across his rock hard cheeks.”
Ahh Declan… What can you say about a man who is so self-assured and confident, so handsome on the outside and in. You want to slap him at times and hug him the next, as he fights for what he believes is right in his own unique style…
Each story in this series has elements that are irresistible including sibling relationships (and conversations) that make you laugh, mist up and want to dive right in and be a part of it all.
“I’ll be honest, despite the crust being harder than a drill sergeant’s n**sack, it was pretty good.”
There is no cookie cutter recipe for these stories. Each one stands on its own with unforgettable characters and family that you want to run to (rather than from). This outing had laughter and love and so much pain at times that the emotions were almost overwhelming. Overwhelming in only the best of ways. This author has found words and characters that fast-track right into my heart… Each and every time. If you haven’t met the O’Briens I envy you – being able to meet them for the very first time… Thank goodness there are more siblings with their stories yet to be told!

Having read and enjoyed books 1 and 2 of this series, I was thrilled to receive an ARC for Book 4, Feel Me, in exchange for a fair, unbiased review. No, you didn’t miscount, nor did I, book 3 simply slipped past me. But not to worry, I hope to backtrack and read it sooner rather than later. Why? Mainly because of the British hunk of a handsome hero. Yeah, it’s a given he’ll be sporting a sexy, English accent, folks, and I just can’t say no to that.

Melissa and Declan, the main couple here, definitely got off to a bad start in a previous book. Things didn’t seem destined to go well for them at all. Mainly because Melissa’s made up mind to dislike this golden, smooth talking, headed for political greatness hero rubbed her in all the wrong ways. Declan, however, seemed more than just a little interested in getting an opportunity to touch her in all the right ways.

Fortunately for them, fate stepped in and gave them a helping hand. Forced to work together, they slowly but surely got to know each other. Though Declan was slow to declare or acknowledge he wanted more than just some smexy time with her, they both took turns in this back and forth, low angst, romantic tale questioning where their relationship was truly headed.

With engaging writing that flowed, I did enjoy this adversaries to lovers, very steamy romantic tale. Here’s to hoping you’ll feel the same.

Title: Feel Me, Series: O’Brien Family (Book 4), Author: Cecy Robson, Pages: stand-alone but part of a series, hearing impaired heroine, ambitious hero, forced to work together, very steamy scenes, misinterprets a situation, gets cold feet and does something stupid, work for victims of crime/sexual assault, no cheating, no love triangle, no OW/OM drama.

Book 1 - Once Kissed (Curran & Tess), 11/3/15, Pages: 288

There is just something about the O'Briens of Philly that has me all anticipation when I crack open the next book in the series. Is it because they are hardcore Philly people? Put the loud and loyal into family? Laugh out loud funny? Make me cry and sigh as they find their way through their troubles? Well, yeah! Do yourself a solid and pick these up, Feel Me?

At last! Sigh... I wanted Declan and Melissa's story since the moment in Curran's book when Deck just might have really stuck his foot in his mouth and from then on just kept switching feet when it came to Melissa. Mr. Hot Shot Hottie Assistant District Attorney met his match. Oh yes, I needed this book so very badly. Not that I do not love and adore everyone else's stories because I did, but... this was the could not wait one. And bonus, I got Declan and Melissa along with a heavy dose of O'Brien on the side. Bliss!

So, this fourth book of the O'Brien series, which can be read out of order, but why ever would you want to, lived right up to my anticipation and more. It was office romance, but it was surrounded by family and deep individual character stories. It grabs the heart and thumps the funny bone as well as gets the passion going. I couldn't put it down particularly there in the end when I was rooting so hard for this pair to get past their issues with love and trust because they were so right for each other- goes way beyond chemistry.

In summary, it was all I was hoping for. So many layers of good development and a wide spectrum of reader emotions. Those who love a strong family element and a deep relationship built contemporary romance should give this and the series a try. Oh, and one more thing... this is a spin-off series to the Shattered Past trio when the O'Briens are first introduced and the best place to start if you're just getting interested in these.

My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cecy Robson has become one of my go-to authors for a great read that will suck you in from the very first page. The O’Brien boys are hot as sin and I’ve enjoyed each of the stories more than the last – Declan’s story being my favorite so far!

Declan O’Brien is the newly appointed ADA and has been given this position by Melissa Fenske’s father… the woman who he can never seem to keep from embarrassing himself in front of. Melissa doesn’t much care for Declan, believing he’s arrogant, rude and a man-whore. Especially since Declan isn’t as appreciative as Melissa believes he should be in his newly appointed position as he actually wants the position of DA for Homicide, not SACU where he’s been put. Melissa and Declan work very closely together at the SACU offices and the close quarters are causing things to really heat up. Declan has always had a thing for Melissa but Melissa isn’t one to give in easily and makes Declan really work for it…

Melissa might have been one of my favorite heroines in a long while, she’s overcome her hearing disability to have an incredible career, a fierce attitude and a huge heart. I love that though I believe this book can be read as a stand-alone we get huge chunks of the other O’Brien boys and their women from previous books – it really connected well together. I love this series and can’t wait to read more!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fourth in the series, and I would definitely recommend that you read them in order. As each O'Brien sibling falls in love we get to understand more about this close knit yet complex family. Declan has to date been the most resistant to even the idea that love is real, so inevitably his fall is so much harder for him to deal with at all.

Told from both Declan and Melissa's viewpoints, we get to see how these two function, and how they even when they finally acknowledge their feelings for each other, there are plenty of obstacles in the way. I may have wanted to slap him a few times ... but luckily his sister, and brothers' significant others all give him a few pointers as to how badly he is messing up. It was refreshing to see a woman with a hearing impairment in a successful career, and to appreciate better how tough life must be when in that role within the legal system.

Miles, Melissa's father deserves a special mention, for being a special man - and when he tells Melissa about his time with Mae, he is the ultimate cool Dad!

The only problem with this book ending was that I would very much like the next one already - so I do hope you are busy weaving your magic, Ms Robson.

I am new to Cecy Robson, I didn't realize this was the 4th book? Now I gotta play catch up and go backwards, I seems to be doing that with a lot of series lately. I can't wait to read even more from Cecy very very soon. Love her style. Love these characters, very fast paced, not much violence, love all the law related bits, it is a very emotional read to me.. Declan & Melissa. I see many folks love Cecy books, like she is a go to author, Love see that!! ... glad I finally found the time to read her work. Got it through NetGalley. I did read the blurb ... but I must say I didn't realize it was the 4th book ... I don't think I felt out of sorts reading it out of order. Did you? If any one is like me? I really appreciate when an author makes it so you can read a book and not feel totally out in left field when reading them out of order so to speak. I will be checking in with Cecy very very soon. Must read. Loved it.

**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**

Declan O'Brien is asked to take over the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit and become acting District Attorney while District Attorney Miles Fenske deals with a recurrence of cancer. This means working closely with Mile's adopted daughter Melissa who is hearing impaired. Declan isn't one to believe in love given what he grew up with. Yes, his brothers and sisters found their happily ever afters but Declan doesn't believe it's in his cards.

Declan has to work closely with Melissa on a series of cases, apparently he can't help making a fool of himself in front of her. Melissa watches woman fawn all over Declan, she's just never been that type of woman. Their feelings for each start to blossom and before they can stop it they are acting on that attraction.

I found it interesting learning about Melissa's impairment and how it affected her. The chemistry between Declan and Melissa is super hot. I can't wait to read more in this series!

I get giddy with a new O’Brien Family novel hits my ereader and I knew that Declan’s story was going to be EPIC and it was!

Declan has a life plan. He wants to become the youngest head of Homicide/District Attorney that Philly has ever seen and he wants to one day become Mayor. And his plan definitely does not include love. He’s fine with the arm candy that graces his arm and his bed from time to time. He’s no fool. He knows that happily ever after doesn’t really exists, no matter what his family have been able to find for themselves. That is until Melissa Fenske comes barreling into his life. Melissa’s father is the current DA and is also needing to take a leave of absence due to illness and there is only one person he wants to step into his shoes… Declan O’Brien. But Melissa is not too happy about the arrogant prosecutor stepping into the roll of Director of Victim Services. But as the two start to work together, sparks start to fly between the two and all of a sudden… Could this really be love?

I loved the dynamic between Declan and Melissa. Kinda a enemy to lover trope. The sparks definitely flew between the two. I wanted to smack Declan a time or two but I loved the story and couldn’t put it down once I started reading. I love this entire series, so if you haven’t started it- now is the time! Each book can be read as a standalone.

Something about this blurb appealed to past me, but when I got around to reading it, me of the present was not as impressed. A lot of little things about this book left me feeling frustrated. Melissa and Declan work together and he is pretty much a jerk throughout the whole story, he is possessive and dismissive of her feelings, he gets mad at her for things when he does similar things to her, and I never grew to like him therefore I didn’t believe in their story.

There was lots of shaming in this book, slut-shaming (calling other women sluts, skanks and tramps for previous sexual encounters), kink-shaming (a potential client is also a submissive and as a side note it was not relevant and never came up again), emotion-shaming (a few instances of being called a “pussy” for showing emotion) and most importantly romance novel enjoyment shaming (Melissa enjoyed reading romance, she feels obligated to downplay her enjoyment and then later when Declan gives her a present of some romance books, he’s so disgusted by the thought of having to enter a store to purchase them, he sends his sister.

Declan has a lot of siblings and I disliked pretty much all of them. His one brother, Curran, talks about how he went to the ob/gyn with his pregnant wife and then pitched a fit when he found out the doctor was male, because he didn’t want another man looking at his wife’s bits. His sister refers to him as metro-sexual in a super negative manner because he doesn’t drive a truck. Additionally. Declan’s family gets a lot of page time, if you’ve read previous books in this series and enjoyed them, that may appeal to you. I could mostly understand the previous connections, so this could be read as a stand alone.

I was really interested to see how the author portrayed Melissa’s hearing impairment and I don’t feel qualified enough to say if it was good or bad. There were some times when Melissa tried to explain that she doesn’t like it when people whisper to her because of back noise, but in the next scene Declan would whisper to her. It was confusing. She could read lips and Declan didn’t learn ASL until very late in the story.

Overall this book did not work for me. I found the hero incredibly unlikeable. The sex wasn’t even very hot or detailed. Too many little things that bothered me that all combined, I did not enjoy this book. Melissa was a decent heroine trying to live her life doing what she believed was her calling. She definitely deserved a better hero.

Readers find themselves once again caught up in the chaos, outspokenness, and wholehearted support of the O'Brien family in this fourth installment in the series that blends ambition, abuse, disability, and a steamy romance of reluctant frenemies to lovers. From start to finish this story pulls you in, all the highs and lows their relationship goes through become yours, and by the end you'll be left cheering.

Declan comes from a large family that struggled mightily to keep food on the table and their bills paid after the death of their father. The oldest sons worked hard, not only in their jobs but in school too, to make something of themselves which would benefit the entire family. Not everything went according to plan though as a younger brother was abused along with his sister being traumatized by a world he swore to protect them from in his role as the family sheepdog. This legacy of needing to protect has led him to the DA's office where he makes those who hurt others pay. It's just a stepping stone though as he has even higher political aspirations. Another legacy he's left with, courtesy of his father's indiscretions, are his doubts regarding love and HEA. Seeing the pain his mother went through in the name of love has him wanting no part of it as he lives a life free of committment. Seeing his brothers slowly succumb to love shifts something inside him though, a longing that arises just as he gets put into close quarters with the strong-willed Melissa. As his new role starts weighing on him emotionally he comes to count on her support and though they started out as reluctant friends they quickly become more. Just when everything he ever wanted for his career starts happening, his relationship takes an unexpected turn which will mean choosing between love or his career in a heartwarming and hard-fought conclusion. Declan's a self-assured man who's always been good with the ladies. He's charming and sexy and before meeting Melissa he eschewed anything long-term. In his career he's focused on handling the high profile cases and is frustrated when he's handed the job of victim's services. It's a job that wears you down as people do the most vile things to each other. The lone bright spot of this job though is getting close to Melissa. Their first meeting went badly astray, but she's been on his mind ever since and he relishes getting to know her better. Declan treats Melissa with great respect, values her opinions, and never sees her hearing impairment as an obstacle. His interactions with her are flirty from the very start and teem with sexual tension and sensually-charged banter in an immensely appealing coupling that leads to lots of scorching encounters.

Melissa's childhood was one of abuse and abandonment until the day she was adopted by a kind-hearted man who opened up her world to all sorts of new possibilities. She's profoundly deaf and by him learning ASL it was the first step in a bonding that pitted the two of them against the world. Though her self-esteem was sometimes bruised through the hurtful words of other children she never let it define her or hold her back from succeeding. Her adoptive father may have taught her how to love, but it's still not easy for her to open up her heart. In that respect her and Declan are a perfect match. With her father's illness putting her in direct contact with the sexy DA, she soon finds herself fighting off an attraction that she knows won't go anywhere. The stronger their feelings become, the more they come to count on each other for support, the more complicated things become as Declan's always had his eyes on the prize when it came to his career. She's the only one to get his heart into the equation in a relationship that saw her doubts pushing them to the brink. Melissa's an immensely appealing heroine very attuned to the feelings of others. With her tragic beginnings she can easily relate to victims of crime which brought a lot of emotional moments to the story and showed the sacrifices some people are willing to make to help others. Her hearing impairment is dealt with head-on and the actuality of having this disability is addressed in realistic detail. It's not at all heavy-handed and is seamlessly incorporated into the narrative. With her deafness there's a sense of loneliness surrounding her as her life revolves around work and her father until Declan came into the picture. I never saw her with friends, having others as a support system, which was just one of the reasons I was rooting for their HEA. For so long it was just her and her dad and now she has the whole wonderful O'Brien clan ready to bring her into their fold.

This was a charming and heartwarming romance with a main couple whose attraction was crackling. They were subtle adversaries at the start but quickly found a connection through their heartbreaking dealings with victims. Declan put work above all else at first but meeting Melissa gave him a glimpse of something more profound. For so long he was the caretaker and now he has someone taking care of him. Melissa's always felt a bit inferior when it comes to relationships. Her childhood feelings of being unloved weigh on her still today and have her doubting the feelings Declan's finally uttered and frustratingly led to an unnecessary speed bump very late in the story that's thankfully resolved quickly. Along with this likable main couple readers see the return of the entire O'Brien clan with all their brashness and familial support. There's great humor, witty banter, and obvious love surrounding this family in each of their interactions with Declan that were endearing. They unwaveringly embraced Melissa, treated her deafness with nonchalance, and after all she experienced early in life it's a family she richly deserves. As a disabled person I applaud Ms. Robson's handling of Melissa's disability. It was done with realism and respect and I wish more authors would depict characters that I can more easily relate to. Disability doesn't make you any less worthy of HEA and by the end of the story I was definitely cheering. I'm also left waiting breathlessly for the next installment in this delightful series and the next boisterous brother to find his own HEA.
