Great

The Darkland/ I have just finished the first book Darkland, and it was wonderful as all of her books are. I must say that the fight between Lord Le Vey and his daughter, Lily, and Kara is by far my favorite scene out of every book I have read. All three of the other books in this set were very good also. Ms. Le Veque is my favorite historical romance author so therefore I love and will always give give stars to get books.

This is why Diana Gabaldon fought so hard for Outlander not to be marketed as romance.

Turgid, overblown trash. The "heroes" are uniformly large, muscular and instantly smitten with the tiny but incredibly sexy gorgeous lady. There is a lot of ridiculous dialogue, a bit of fluffed up conflict and then a perfunctory happily ever after. At least the Darkland makes an attempt at plot, though none of the characters ever appear believably motivated in any of their actions. The author's assurances in the foreword to Darkland that the hero is simply the most amazing hero you have ever seen are an exercise in grand self delusion. Her further assertions that the opening scene is the funniest you have ever read suggests that her readers don't read very widely.

There is minimal plot. The characters are one dimensional. There is a lot of reference to events that appear "off screen" either in the past or future, but the plot scaffolding is so non existent that honestly, you just don't care.

There are minor typographic errors, but for the price, these are hardly an issue. By far a bigger problem is the poor editing, with some very strange and jarring phraseology. The sex scenes are dull and display a lack of understanding of basic anatomy. I don't want to go into spoilers, so I am being deliberately quite vague, but there was one particular description that nearly made me laugh out loud.

I chose this particular set of books because I really wanted some light romance to pass some time and the author had many glowing reviews. This is why I am writing mine as an honest counterpoint reflecting my views.

I was hoping to find someone whose career I could follow. I was beyond disappointed, but at least I didn't spend a lot.

One of Kathryn's best novels.

Kathryn is one of my most favorite authors. Everytime I pick up one of her novels, I cannot put it down until it is finished. Sleep is overrated.
