In Service to the Senator

Rate this book
Sometimes, politics make the strangest of bedfellows…and enemies.

Terrell Warren is a rising star within the ranks of the Democratic Party. Buoyed his former heroic exploits in Desert Storm, the two-term senator has ascended quickly, currently being vetted as a part of the party’s presidential ticket in the upcoming election cycle, entering rarified air as an African-American politician. He’s charismatic, devilishly handsome, and possesses both the pedigree and the type of bipartisan support that could have him sitting in the Oval Office as Commander-in-Chief in the near future.

Even his unconventional marriage to the stunning Kianna Warren doesn’t seem to sway the public, as rumors from media circuits continue to swirl around their alternative proclivities. After all, who wouldn’t want to surrender and be in service to the powerful, irresistible statesman? He has managed to claim the American public’s imagination, providing the catalyst as the face of the wave of the future of the party.

Unfortunately, there are forces at work that wish to derail the inevitable, and they will stop at nothing to ensure that Senator Warren is discredited.

Kianna’s unexpected abduction takes him off the campaign trail, as the mysterious organization taking credit for her abduction has made one rather extraordinary demand—one that threatens to revert American foreign policy back to the previous century’s “Cold War” history. The ultimatum is clear—either comply with the demands, or his wife will be killed.

In Service to the Senator is the latest explosive tale from best-selling author Shakir Rashaan, where a race against the clock might mean the difference between life and death.

“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.” ~ Virginia Wolfe

Conjurer of worlds. Sorcerer. Man. Myth. Legend. Prototype.

All of these words describe Shakir Rashaan, who has been creating mind-twisting stories and lavish worlds for well over a decade, rolling onto the national literary scene as a contributor to Z-Rated: Chocolate Flava 3 in 2012. His raw, vivid, and uncut writing style captured the attention of the Queen of Erotica herself, Zane. A year later, Shakir’s debut novel with Strebor/Atria/Simon & Schuster, The Awakening, opened to rave reviews, while the follow-up in the Nubian Underworld series, Legacy, garnered even more success, and the third installment, Tempest, helping to make the series one of the most unique and best-selling in the erotic romance genre.

Rashaan would later add to his impressive catalog with the debut of the Kink, P.I. Series in 2015, starting with Obsession and following up with Deception and Reckoning. Drawing comparisons to Walter Mosely’s Easy Rawlins series, Kink, P.I. has developed into yet another best-selling series, carving its place as a “throwback to the days of classic mystery books” in the mystery genre.

Further adding to his impressive portfolio, Rashaan was a regular blogger for USA Today’s Happy Ever After blog, where readers could find him at his “Manly Musings” personal blog, reviewing books, television shows, and movies from a man’s perspective. He wrote recaps for various shows for the STARZ Network, including The Girlfriend Experience, POWER, and Survivor’s Remorse, before the blog was retired in late 2018.

Shakir has gone on in recent years to pen a series of bestselling novels, including In Service to the Senator, a sexy political thriller surrounding an up-and-coming vice presidential candidate, The Devil’s All-American, a unique paranormal romance featuring a rising college basketball star, Unthinkable, a not-so-conventional romance set in the entertainment industry, Love, Lust & Beautiful Liars, a romantic suspense novel about an international weapons dealer who was looking to retire and enjoy his HEA, and most recently in 2021, Queen of Cambridge, part of the Queens of the Castle anthology series.

Shakir has switched gears, jumping into the young adult world, developing the Neverwraith series, a YA paranormal fantasy for Entangled Teen/Macmillan, and the South Hampton series, in addition to several other YA and New Adult projects to expand his NEBU universe. Neverwraith is his most ambitious project to date, about a teenage descendant of an ancient metahuman bloodline who searches for the truth about the death of his parents and their connection to a centuries-old blood feud over sacred texts contained inside of his native Kindara, an island nation located near the West African coast ... all while navigating high school

Shakir currently resides in suburban Atlanta with his wife, soon-to-be college graduate daughter, and a Jack-Chi named Teddy.

Politics. Intrigue. Suspense. Drama. Sex.

You get all of that and some more in the newest release from Shakir Rashaan. I was not sure what to except because the material is quite different than what this author has written in the past. I would classify this book as political suspense with a hint of erotica. The synopsis clearly states what the book is about so there is no need to rehash that here. The race against time is filled with so much drama and imagery, that I could close my eyes and imagine how it would actually play out and to me that is the sign of some excellent storytelling skills.

I’ve been quite critical of Mr. Rashaan’s work in the past, but I can say without a doubt, that this was my favorite book of his to date. There was politics, suspense, drama, and of course his signature style of giving us some insight into the BDSM lifestyle. I sometimes wonder if certain folks have their current positions because of their intelligence and/or if they slept their way there and after reading this book I will be even more leery. One last thing, they say there’s nothing like a woman scorned and In Service to the Senator proves it!!

Senator Terrell Warren is slowly climbing the political ladder in hopes of becoming the next Vice-Presidential candidate. Things take a turn when his newlywed wife, Kianna is kidnapped. He is using a few of his connections to find his wife, including his "assistant" Lea, some old friends and maybe even a new one. Nothing is too much for this Dom.

Kianna Tanner is fighting to stay alive and get back to her "Daddy", and she'll do just about anything to do it.

Lea is Senator Tanner's assistant who is working hard behind the scenes to find Kianna, and nobody is off limits, if they can provide information about her whereabouts…and whose actually behind it all.

This is my first book by @shakirrashaan and my introduction to the BDSM lifestyle. Not only was I intrigued, but educated about certain political actions. There's a lot that goes on behind closed doors that we, the people, know nothing about.

I highly recommend this 💎💎💎💎💎 book, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I'm not one that's normally into these types of books, but I did enjoy the story. You could tell the author did a lot of research when it came to the political side of the story. It was a very good, well written and interesting read.

In Service To The Senator combines several hot button topics: drama, suspense, sex, politics, blackmail, and revenge. As I read this book, I started wondering what’s really going on behind the closed doors in government, (especially now) and how those deals are truly made. Author Rashaan has masterfully penned a fictional and suspenseful delight, with a spicy glimpse into the BDSM lifestyle of his previous books. I thought I had it all figured out, and he threw a serious curve at me; had me looking at a lot of "situations" in our government with a serious side eye, giving a whole 'nother meaning to the word, service, if you catch my drift. I fought myself between reading fast to see what happened next, and reading slow so the book wouldn’t end. I would definitely recommend this book to those who like sex, drama, suspense, and all the bedfellows that go hand in hand with them. Run get your copy, and you’ll see what I’m talking about! Kudos Mr. Rashaan, you've done it again!

A Genuine Political Thriller

This is my first time reading works by this author who eloquently sets the foundation for an absorbing introduction to electrifying, multifaceted, and resilient characters, great dialogue, and descriptive surroundings, zigzagging into a web of political duplicity, manipulation, lust, sexual tension, betrayal, lies, secrets, scandal, retribution, and abduction. The page-turning narrative keeps you guessing, where nothing is what it seems, with some shocking turns that build up to a jaw-dropping ending, leaving you questioning the extent people with wealth, power, and influence will go to get what they want, no matter the consequences.

I originally read this book because I thought it was a political romance but it definitely wasn’t that. It was more of a political drama. So, it took me a long time to read this because I spent a lot of time disappointed by the romance. However, once I started accepting it for what it was I was able to enjoy it much more.
Belonging to a man and being his property is wild! These women really bowed at this man’s feet! Powerful Women! All he had to do was speak! I was flabbergasted….
There was a lot of politics though. I enjoyed reading about life on the hill so to speak.
However, sex would be the last thing on my mind during a kidnapping. That was a weird element to introduce but that’s the storyline however unsexy that would be to me.
Overall, the women characters kind of blended together to me. There were no stand-outs among them. I really wanted to just stay in Terrell’s head because it gave diversity to the story versus all the women’s thoughts who basically just obsessed over him!
When it came to the plot, it seemed like you knew all the information halfway through so I was trying to figure out why did I care about the ending…But I followed through to the end but there were no twists or reveals so to speak.
It was a pretty good read overall. Don’t know if I would go out of my way to read anything else like it again but I felt it was worth my time.

Good suspense read!

This was an interesting storyline, and something that captured my attention from a list political reads featured. It was definitely a page- turner, since I was anxious to see what would happen next. Perfect for the election season, but I felt like this was just an introduction to Senator Terrell Warren, and I didn't get to know him that well. A follow-up with more details into his background and what makes him tick would have been great.

I decided to read this book after I heard the Author mentioned it on a program in which I participated. I had not read any of his books before. I didn’t read the intro and based on the title, I thought it would be a boring book about politics. I didn't know what to expect. However, I was surprised by the sex, lots of sex. Although, I do not currently read erotica, this book was so well written it held my attention until the end. It was obvious he did his research and paid attention to even the smallest details. This makes me wonder, what really happens in Washington DC among politicians, their aides and the people who surround them. I will be reading more of his books.

Heart-pounding!

Introducing Terrell Warren. What a character, I must say. He is the epitome of what it takes to be a politician, and Rashaan writes this character well. This is not just about a politician, it's about much more, adding thrilling suspense to the plot. I was hooked from the first chapter, and was completely captivated by the story. There is a lot of backstory and history, and that brings the present story into more focus and depth.
