Deep River, Book Seven, Redemption Mountain Historical Western Romance Series
Beauregard Davis, ex-Confederate Captain and bounty hunter, has put his past behind him to focus on his future. He’s a lawman with a purpose and a dream—do his job to the best of his abilities, and build a life with the woman he loves. Beau believes his life couldn’t be better…until the day she boards a stagecoach, leaving him behind.
Caroline Iverson has a dream she won’t deny. Traveling west, she expects to experience adventure. Instead, Caro finds a good man and unanticipated love. She never imagines the difficult decision to leave him behind would come back to haunt her.
After months of burying his pain in alcohol, Beau emerges stronger, determined to concentrate on a future without Caro. Doing his best to forget the past, he focuses his energy on work and preparing to build a home.
He never expected her to return, looking to recapture the love the two once shared.
Adding to Beau’s concerns, two threats hang over him—outlaws have targeted his town, and he’s being tracked by unidentified foes.
Keeping the town, Caro, and himself safe are his main priorities. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect them. Guarding his heart is another matter.
How does a man ignore an all-consuming love without exposing himself to a threat worse than the physical dangers he already faces?
Deep River, book seven in the Redemption Mountain historical western romance series, is a full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger.
Shirleen Davies grew up in Southern California. She attended Oregon State University, and has degrees from San Diego State University and the University of Maryland. During the day she provides consulting services to small and mid-sized businesses. But her real passion is writing emotionally charged stories of flawed people who find redemption through love and acceptance. She now lives with her husband in a beautiful town in northern Arizona.
Caroline Iverson, a widow, came to Splendor after losing her husband. She came from money and being taken care of. She was attracted to Beau Davis, a deputy in Splendor. He fell in love with her and asked her to marry him. He was shocked when she said, "No." Then she left Splendor without saying goodbye. She went to San Francisco. She was hoping to forget Beau, but she loved him. When she came back, she was going to tell him how she felt. Beau was too hurt to let her explain. He didn't want to get hurt again if she decided to leave again. But life happens with bank robbers coming to town, and she gets hurt. Beau takes care of her. He realizes that he loves her and wants her in his life. They talk, but both know they need to talk about their relationship. Beau comes up missing, and Gabe and his deputies go looking for him. Caro refused to stay behind. She wants to be there when they find him. The two men working on Caroline house are after revenge for Beau, turning in their brother for robbing and murdering many women. Beau was just doing his job as a Bounty Hunter. Gabe, Noah, and the rest of the men get there right after the other two young men saved Beau from Gus and his brother. They had knocked Beau out twice, and he was full of bruises. Caro told him it was her turn to take care of him. They finally decided to get married once he knew she was staying in Splendor. Another great story from Shirleen Davies. Can't wait for the next story.
Beau was an Ex Confederate Captain and then Bounty Hunter before he came to Splendor, Montana. It only made sense he would put on the Deputy Sheriff badge. It was a place where soldiers from both the North and South were able to put aside their differences and make a new start in a new place. Caroline Iverson or Caro as she was called was a wealthy widow who dropped in Splendor on her way to .San Francisco to visit childhood friends. She met and fell in love with the Deputy, but was still determined to use her freedom and continue her travels regardless of her love for Beau. She didn't realize what she was giving up and the hurt she did to Beau. Their relationship was damaged in spite of their love for one another and possibly broken for good. Then enters the bad men determined to take vengeance on Beau for past wrongs done to their family in his duty as a lawman. The constant danger to the town of Splendor by these outlaws keeps everyone on alert and prepared for the bank to be robbed. This old West Shoot Em Up and unrequited love story make for a fun read and is all anyone could want in a good Western.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Beau & Caroline (Caro) had a love made in heaven. A love that got lost when Caro decided to leave and look for the finer things in life- Beau's heart was broken & so was his trust. Now Caro was back & wanting to rebuild what they once had.
As always, Shirleen Davies wrote a great book-a must read!! Great western action & adventure as well as a wonderful love story.
If you've read this series, you'll love that so many familiar characters are in this as well. Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did, and can't wait for the next one. I don't like disclosing so much of the book, it ruins it for other readers. You can read the description of the book as well as other reviews.
I always enjoy traveling back in time to the old west where there are outlaw gangs motivated by revenge or greed, strong lawmen and law abiding citizens, suspense, action, adventure, mystery and a look at day-to-day activities. I loved the chemistry, dynamic and heartwarming second chance romance between deputy Beau Davis and Caro Iverson who returns to Splendor after spending some time in San Francisco. Fans of historical western romance will love this can't-put-down book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of Deep River.
We have here a failure to communicate. If there were two people who needed to be locked in a room it is Beau and Caro. As always, the author draws us into the lives of her characters. In this case, we have met most of them before and have been involved in their lives. I can’t wait to find out what she has in store for us with these new characters. I’ve enjoyed this book and am ready to find out what that is.
Great book! This was book 7 in the series. It is nice to read the books in order, however the author gives enough background to understand the dynamics between the characters. A clean sweet romance with just enough suspense to keep you hooked!
Have enjoyed the series but could have done without “Scrubbing a hand down his face” so repetitive in every book. So far I have read seven of the fifteen, questioning whether I will continue since that phrase and different variations of it have become so irksome to me.
This book by Shielded Davies has to be one of the best love stories I've ever read. It has more suspense and intrigue than any book should need to be good. I would recommend this book to anyone.
This book in the Redemption series is about a young woman who leaves her life in San Francisco to move to Splendor Montana where she finds love and mystery follows her. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Can you recapture that true love when left behind? Beau has to decide to take the chance to trust and love with Caro's return. This series just keeps getting better and love reading about this community in the old west.
Ebookfrom authors copy. Opinions are entirely my own.
Beauregard (Beau) Davis is a bounty hunter lawman -ex Confederate Captain- His only purpose in life is to be the best at his job and marry Caroline (Caro) Iverson the woman of his dreams who has stolen his heart. Life for the lawman can't get any better until Caro shatters his heart and takes all his dreams with her when she boards a stagecoach West.
Caroline can't believe how lucky she is for a man like Beau to love her and to want her as his wife should leave her ecstatic. But she has dreams that she wants to fulfill without having to resent Beau with -what ifs- what she never expected was the emotional devastation she put Beau through. Will it be to late for Caro to make amends with Beau? Can Beau ever forgive Caro for breaking his heart?
A beautiful love story of second chances and forgiveness. Excitement and adventure leave the reader breathless in anticipation for the next wild ride of bank robbers threats and invisible foes that threaten the small town . A truly enjoyable read with mystery, love and a HEA that will leave one truly satisfied. Shirleen Davies never disappoints reading her books is magical.
Received an ARC from the author for my honest opinion.
A heart-warming Western romance, Deep River is full of action and activity. Unfortunately I have only read one early Redemption Mountain novel, so I found the number of characters in the book a bit difficult to keep track of. One really does need to read the whole series to keep up. Nevertheless, this book is all about romance and feelings that have been hurt. When Caro left town, seeking to verify her feelings about Beau, she didn’t realise how much damage she had done to his heart. When she returns to town, thinking she can pick up where she left off, Caro realises just how big a mistake she had made in turning down Beau’s proposal and hiving off to find out whether big city life would be more to her liking. No matter how much they are still attracted to one another, and in spite of Beau’s protective stance towards Caro, she finds that she has to overcome the stubborn hurt that he is experiencing. Adding to the emotional stress, the town is under threat from a criminal element, and Beau is under investigation by an unknown source wanting revenge. I enjoyed the characters in this book, the small town life, of people taking care of each other and looking out for one another’s interests. As with every small town, this can be a good thing or it can be very frustrating when everyone knows your business. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Another great book in this series it's also a stand a lone book. I love the series and this book and I highly recommend both. This series is about a small town in Montana and it's growing residents and their stories. The books are warm and friendly and this stories keep you coming back again and again.
Beauregard or "Beau" was in love with Carol but when she decided to leave Splendor and him behind to move to San Francisco his love turns to total disregard. She hurt him bad and he's not going to let her hurt him ever again nor any other woman, he's learned his lesson. So when Carol moves back to Splendor for him he's not interested.
Carol is a somewhat wealthy woman that was left widowed when her husband died young. She wants to travel and see California. She runs into a childhood friend, Gabe Evans and moves to Splendor for a while to catch up with Gabe and Noah Brandt. She didn't mean to fall in love but her want to move is more powerful than her will to give up her dream of seeing California.
Shile there she misses Beau and decides to go back to him but when she returns it's almost like he now hates her. She talks with some of her friends and decides to stay in Splendor and try to turn Beau's feelings back to the love she misses so much but she's not sure she can do it.
Deep River by Shirleen Davies features Beauregard Davis and Caroline Iverson. First, I got a kick out of reading how Caroline is the only one to call Beau by his full name, brave woman. Just one of the subtle but humorous details that make reading a Shirleen Davies book so entertaining. The story starts out calmly with no real suspense but it isn’t long until the danger mixed with revenge rears its ugly face. From the prologue, I knew it would but I just didn’t guess the way that it would. What looked to be a simple second chance romance in the first couple of chapters turns into a huge story of suspense and danger for Caro and Beau with the entire community involved. The story-line kept me reading with Ms. Davies revealing connections and subplots a little at a time. It mades for an enticing read. While I didn’t understand Carolina’s need to go to San Francisco, I still liked her. As for Beau, he is Marshall Dillon (yes, I know he’s the deputy) in my mind. So this made Deep River my time travel to the wild Montana West even more noteworthy. Marvelous novel from beginning to end. The author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book.
