Sign of Love #9

Preston's Honor

Rate this book
There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one. Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends. Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever. Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning. Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for? How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself? THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY GEMINI. New Adult Contemporary Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked through the Universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings. ~Ariana

Some books make me fly, taking me to destinations unknown, where my heart and soul follow this adventure too. Books by Mia Sheridan always makes me fly where I am one with the world, feeling every ounce of love bleed through the pages, as I channel my inner philosopher and ponder life. Mia Sheridan’s stories are special, not just romances but life-altering stories that leave imprints on your heart and soul. Oh did her latest roller coaster of romance, Preston’s Honor, leave an everlasting imprint on me. Preston’s Honor made my heart bleed and my soul soar as I felt every word and everything.

Preston’s Honor is one mesmerizing and meaningful MASTERPIECE, one I had to savor like a fine wine, cherishing each drop. I was instantly thrust into this all-consuming and awe-inspiring story, Preston’s Honor penetrated through every part of me. I WAS ALL IN…body…heart…soul…everything.

I FELL IN LOVE…SO MUCH LOVE…after just a few pages!!! Preston’s Honor instantly enthralled me, embracing every emotion, wrapping me in its words like a hug where I felt the squeeze of each one on my soul. I had to take deep breaths, sometimes holding my breath, while reading as I tried to process the pages that pummeled my heart, words wound tightly around my soul.

Preston’s Honor’s powerful and poignant words SHREDDED MY SOUL, where I felt stripped bare, my emotions belonging to this beautiful book from beginning to end. Not even ten percent into this story, I knew Preston’s Honor was worth ALL OF THE STARs as it already had ALL OF THE HEART and ALL OF THE SOUL. I almost immediately knew Preston’s Honor would be a top 2017 book. I knew this story was SPECIAL. I knew this story would hold my heart in its hands forever, and oh does Preston’s Honor still have my heart in its grasp.

Beautiful, dark-haired and green-eyed, Annalia ‘Lia’ De Valle has loved Preston Sawyer her whole life. Best friends with golden-haired and blue-eyed Preston and his identical twin brother, Cole, the three were inseparable during their childhood. Friends for life.

Preston and Annalia are beautiful together…magical. Soul mates whose story touched me so deeply that I felt their connection in my soul.

She was so beautiful sometimes it hurt me to look at her.

The daughter of an impoverished migrant worker in central California, Annalia’s life was limited due to being poor, but the Sawyer boys’ farm was her world, a land of freedom that made her forget the chains of limitations from being poor.

Part of my love for Preston was like a slow-moving river that had gained breadth and speed over time. And another part came in short bursts of white-hot lightning, marking the very moments when the love in my heart had charged and intensified.

Preston has always loved Annalia from afar, but a sense of honor kept him from crossing the friendship line.

I don’t want you to kiss anyone else. I want you to kiss me. I’ve always…I’ve always wanted you to kiss me.”

One night, Preston could no longer hold onto his sense of honor.

I’ve waited so long for you, Lia. So long.”

One night, he gave into his love for Annalia.

Preston was the one I wanted with every fiber of my being. He was the one I craved. He was the other half of my heart.

One night they gave into the passion that always penetrated them, the combustible chemistry, the love, and so much more.

“Tonight. This is our beginning, Annalia.”

One night changed everything.

Why hadn’t she known that losing her would tear the last piece of my heart to shreds?

One night sent Annalia away.

I wondered distantly if people who had once been stripped bare and cracked open could recover.

One night broke both of their hearts.

Annalia. Mine. She’d always been mine.

He was the other half of my heart.

“Someday I’m going to leave here, but a part of my heart is going to remain. With you.”

I gave my heart to Preston’s Honor where it still remains long after I turned the last page. My heart was decimated. My heart was warmed. My heart was broken. My heart was whole. This book gripped me hard and never let go as it tore open my heart like a gaping wound, gutting me.

I gave my soul to this story—as if I had a choice—for it to be sucked in and shattered like a storm, dragging me in, pulling me under. Preston’s Honor SHREDDED MY SOUL, this story slaughtering every part of me. Preston’s Honor seared my soul, its light warming me from outside in, and oh did I LOVE THIS STORY SO MUCH!!!

Tears flowed like a river and I didn’t try to stop them…could not stop them. The feels flowed feverishly where I FELT EVERY WORD ON EVERY PAGE; I FELT EVERYTHING. I felt every drop of sunlight, every drop of rain, every pull of my heart, and every slay of my soul. I swooned and was swathed in sweetness, as if the sun was seeping on every part of my soul. Preston’s Honor GUTTED and UNGLUED me yet cast a GLOW on me, making me feel WHOLE…LOVED.

Preston’s Honor is a devastatingly beautiful story of everlasting love that bleeds heart and soul, rendering you breathless from beginning to end. Preston’s Honor branded me…breathed life into me…became me. I was bound to this book, and my heart still beats for this beauty in words. This coming of age story of everlasting love, the special kind that is a rare treasure like the stars on a clear night, Preston’s Honor touched me everywhere.

Mia Sheridan is a visionary. She paints the perfect vision through her words. Words by Mia Sheridan are crafted with precision—pure poetry—as if by a paintbrush where each stroke, when combined, creates a masterpiece. Mia Sheridan makes you a believer in love, hope, and what’s beyond the happily after.

A special story writer, Mia Sheridan's whose way with words is not only spectacular but spiritual. There is an ethereal beauty in Mia Sheridan’s writing, so poignant and pure. This author’s words are an extension of nature…the world…something larger than life. Her sensational and soul-searing stories make you believe that life is indeed bigger than this earth, something so breathtakingly beautiful that one can only ponder its existence.

It’s as if Mia Sheridan’s stories are stamped with a spirit, perhaps something supernatural, that imprints on your soul, seeping in so deep that you feel it deep in your soul too. Oh did I FEEL IT ALL! Preston’s Honor seeped through my soul...sweetness...sorrow...swoon...all of the senses!!!

From Archer's Voice to Preston’s Honor, which is now among my top 2017 reads and my new favorite book by this author, Mia Sheridan breathes life into a story that hits straight to the heart. Her meaningful and mesmerizing words MATTER. Each of Mia Sheridan’s poignantly penned pieces own a piece of my soul…so very special just like this amazing author.

One of my new favorite books of all time, Preston’s Honor is pure poignant perfection. Oh are my emotions still on edge long after I turned the last page! Preston’s Honor is a magical and meaningful modern day fairytale of epic love, the kind that lives on long after the story is over. The kind of love that is LIFE. So much life that lives on forever as Mia Sheridan’s spellbinding and soul-slaying stories live in my heart and soul.

“Someday I’m going to leave here, but a part of my heart is going to remain. With you.”

Preston’s Honor is inspired by the Gemini sign in Mia Sheridan’s signs of love series. This book is 100% a stand alone, but I love that all Mia’s stories are connected in this way. And I’m still waiting for my sign to be featured… ;) Anyway- the Gemini tale of Zeus and Leda’s twin sons influenced this book. We start with two identical twin brothers. Preston and Cole….

Preston and Cole may be identical in looks, but their personalities couldn’t be more different. Cole is fun loving, has a big presence, and is the guy everyone is friends with. Preston is a little more on the quiet side, protective of those he cares for, and full of honor. Annalia has lived near them and has been friends with them since she was a child. Lia comes from a whole different world then they do. The boys live on a big farm, where as Lia is the daughter of a single illegal Mexican woman. Their lives are totally different. Both of the boys have cared for Lia since she was a child. As they grow older, their feelings change.

Cole and Preston both care for Lia, but Preston’s feelings run much deeper than Coles. When it comes time to decide who will pursue Lia, Preston makes a mistake he will end up regretting for a long time to come…
What happened when your words agreed to something but your heart couldn’t be swayed?

The brothers in this story were both lovable in different ways. I really loved Cole and his free spirit attitude, but I felt from the start Preston was the one who deserved Lia. I love the little moments that were special between the two of them. Preston was one of those characters that you couldn’t not love. He’s a special guy.

 photo D975F1DC-51AF-4A8B-BB33-F7D9F0FABF6D_zpshvmq5pwj.jpg

I did end up loving Annalia, but there were moments in the story I had mixed feelings about her and her choices. I guess when it comes down to it, I can understand why she did the things she did… but being in her shoes, I don’t think it’s something I could ever do. Still- I can sympathize with her situation. I don't want to give away a big part of the plot, but once you’ve read the book I think you’ll understand what I’m trying to say. What I did love about Lia was her growth and how she came into her own. Also, I loved the fact that she was strong and self sufficient. She was kind and helpful to those that didn’t deserve it. At heart, I think she is an incredible human being.

Lia and Preston’s story is complicated. It’s not easy, it’s not painless, and it’s got moments of tragedy woven in with the moments of love. Preston’s Honor is full of emotion, angst, and heartache. It’s also a stunningly beautiful, poignant and equal parts heart-wrenching and heart-warming read. I loved the romance aspect, but I equally loved the character growth and development and the bigger picture. Mia’s writing is always flawless. This is a must read story and one I feel will stay with me!
Preston had always been the one. It had always been him.

I saw an amazing, strong woman, who had the courage to come back to me. I saw my love, my heart, my home.

PRESTON’s HONOR is a story in which the moral is that if you keep your true feelings hidden and never give voice to your passion, you may end up losing the one thing that matters the most. And if you’re lucky, sometimes you get a second chance to fix mistakes made in the past.

Annalia, Preston, and Cole have been best friends since early childhood. Preston and Cole are twin brothers who lived on the farm where Lia’s immigrant mother used to work on. Lia and her mother lived in a tiny one-room shack that is located just on the outskirts of the Sawyer’s farm. Although Lia is a few years younger the two brothers took to the pretty girl almost instantly. Preston and Lia had always harbored secret crushes on each other. They were so good at hiding their true feelings from each other and to everyone else that you can almost guess what eventually happens. Years later when they are teenagers, the wrong brother ends up making a move on Lia. Preston and Lia will waste years pining over their unrequited love and making false assumptions about one another.

 photo dream_zpsl0ddtt9o.gif

When Preston and Lia finally come clean with each other their passion is nothing short of explosive but soon tragedy nearly tears them apart. Feeling lost and bewildered after months of being practically ignored by Preston, Lia leaves town in hopes of finding the person inside of her that she’s always kept hidden and when she finds that inner peace, she tries to go back to the family she left behind.

Will Preston be able to forgive Lia for leaving? Can they move on from painful memories of the past and build a promising future for their little family?

Those of you who avoid love triangles, I would advise you to give this one a chance because ultimately this was a story about three friends who loved and looked out for each other no matter what adversities they faced.

PRESTON’s HONOR releases on February 19th!

Fifteen reasons why this book is awesome:

1. Because of its ‘loved you since childhood’ theme.

2. Because of its ‘loved you secretly from afar’ theme.

3. Because there is a touch of forbidden love.

4. Because there is no love triangle, not really.

5. Because there are no dead exes, thank God.

6. Because there is no cheating (and no ‘technically not cheating’ crap).

7. Because the story spans over years (which I love).

8. Because of its original unoriginal storyline, however stupid that sounds.

9. Because of the fact that miscommunication and misunderstandings, the elements so often used by romance authors as main plot drivers (which, to be honest, only show us how unimaginative the authors stupid, spoiled, egoistical and annoying the characters are), are used in this book with the purpose: to show us how the upbringing, life circumstances and outside influences can shape a person's beliefs and values which in turn can lead to misunderstandings, miscommunication and wrong life decisions.

10. Because of the flawless and effortless writing.

11. Because of the feels, so many feels.

12. Because of the lovable, realistic, perfectly imperfect characters. I love how the author portrays all of the characters only as humans. Nothing is black and white, nobody is perfect or completely bad, even villains have feelings and positive qualities.

13. Because of the excellent multi-layered characterization which shows the author’s careful planning, research and deep understanding of the human nature and different types of love and relationships.

14. Because I have a soft spot for loyal, honorable and quiet heroes.

15. Because of the poignant and thought-provoking messages. It's good to be reminded from time to time that life is unpredictable, short and more often than not unfair. Love is beautiful and fulfilling but it’s not self-sustainable. It can’t run well unless you’re putting in the right fuel. Relationships are hard and require a lot of effort and communication. No Happily Ever After is ever met with ease.

In other words, Mia Sheridan has found the right recipe to remind me once again why she belongs to my favorite authors list.

When every time Mia releases a book, for me it's a moment of pure joy, because I know I will love it no matter what. She can't get anything wrong and of course I was right in anticipating the success of this book. It was awesome and somewhere along the way I considered it a little different than her previous work, with a strong message behind it.

Lia is our leading lady, who lived a very simple and tormented life. Raised with only her mother as an illegal migrant, she was always craving for affection, for somebody to care for her and make her feel loved. Being the result of a rape, her mother always considered her an undesired child and inflicted upon her feelings of not being worthy of anything in this life but loneliness and hurt. She was s good friend with Preston and Cole, 2 twin brothers who belonged from very different world than Lia's but somehow managed to make her feel special and cared for. Lia fell in love with both of them, but in very different ways.

Cole was the easygoing type, without a care in the world, who wasn't into serious business with the rest of the world and just took everything as it went. Lia saw him only as a brother, although for a period of time they used to date. Preston, on the other hand, was serious and driven about his passions, that included the farm in which they grew up and his love for Lia. This secret love will last for years, but because of some happenings mainly driven by pride and honor, Preston will not speak out-loud his love for her. He will love her from afar, completely ignorant about how much Lia loves him too. All her life she has been waiting for him, but because Preston seemed not interested, Lia thought she is not good enough for him, or for anyone. The reason behind Preston's distance is kind of complicated but you will have to discover it by yourself. Hint.. it has to do with the title of the book:)

Because we are reading Mia's book, you can figure out that things will not be easy for our couple, and our emotions are heavily tested in this story. For a short period of time they will give in to their feelings, but when tragedy and unexpected things strike, their love will suffer. We just have to wait and see what destiny has in stored for them..

I loved this couple and although there were times when I wanted to strangle both of them, I knew that their story was written this way for a reason. Lia had a serious background that made her the insecure women she is now. Being told all her life how a simple and useless being she is, of course she will make mistakes and not know how to handle certain situations. She was humiliated, disconsidered because of her Mexican origins and had to struggle to just survive. Preston has always been her hero, her savior and he loved her no matter her origins, conditions and lack of money. He loved her for her pure heart and tender way of being, without considering for a second that they are different.

I warn you that they will make mistakes, they will not do certain things when they had too, but in the end, all this things will sum up and made them characters who evolved and learned from their mistakes.

All of Mia's trademark elements were of course in the book, but one aspect struck me most.. it was the accent she put on diversity and acceptance, taking Lia's example. She was Mexican, living in a small town where her kind was considered inferior, only good at labor work and nothing more. They were hated by others, not allowed to speak, to blend in with other people, basically a minority without any rights. Mia introduced Cole and Preston to show that this things are different, that it's the heart that matters the most and after displaying some scenes about this topic, I really understood what is meant to lack food or shelter and nobody being there to help you. This social message was so strong and stood with me for a long time after finishing the story. Community is a very important word that you have to remember when thinking about Lia and her struggle to be accepted:)

In conclusion, I totally recommend this book, because of its strong message, amazing characters and if you are a fan of second chances stories this one will be perfect for you. Thank you Mia for warming my heart again with your amazing love stories.

When I'm reading a romance I look for that moment when my chest aches for the characters. Sometimes I find it, sometimes I don't, but when I usually do it's just a moment, a chapter or two, in the story arc. With Preston's Honor my chest ached for about 70% of the novel. Mia has a wonderful ability to make me care that deeply for her characters, and Lia and Preston got to me more than most. I cried a few times reading this. Couldn't see the lines on my kindle kind of crying. This story is down-to-earth, real, raw and so very, very beautiful.
I think it will be almost impossible for any other book to knock this off the top spot for my favourite read of 2017.

5 stars just aren't enough.

Finally it was my zodiac sign’s turn in this series and Mia Sheridan delivered an overall enjoyable read for this Gemini.

I adored the heroine and found the hero and his twin just as likable. This couple had a bit to learn in terms of communication which did make for a pretty bumpy ride for them. The story is well written, well paced, and left me smiling.

“There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.”

description

Wow! I utterly adored “Preston’s Honor.” I love Mia Sheridan’s compelling storytelling as she has such a gifted way of writing that has the ability to draw me in from the first line right up until the very last. “Preston’s Honor” is part of the “Signs of Love” series based on the zodiac sign of Gemini and it did not disappoint. Still to this day Mia Sheridan’s story “Archer’s Voice” is one of my all-time favourite books and this sets the bench mark for the very high expectations I have each time she releases a new book.

This is a story of the Sawyer brothers, Preston and Cole, who also happen to be twins and the special friendship and bond they share with Annalia (Lia), the daughter of an illegal immigrant farm worker. Growing up together they have a love that spanned many years.

Preston and Cole’s family owned a farm in a small town in central California and Lia’s mother once worked for the Sawyers. Even though identical twins, Preston and Cole were as different as night and day. Cole was the fun loving, carefree and easy going brother whereas Preston was more serious and thought provoking. Preston rarely smiled and had piercing eyes that literally shook Lia to her very core.

“To me they were bigger than life, too. Cole who was always laughing, always making some big joke, and Preston…Preston with his serious eyes and the way he’d tilt his head and look right at me when I was talking, the way his rare smile filled up my whole heart.”

Lia has not had the easiest of lives. She’s always had a sense of feeling unwanted, unloved and being an utter disappointment. Her only escape was sneaking off to play with the Sawyer brothers; they were the light in her dark world.

“Preston’s Honor” is told in both the past and present day which was pivotal to the story and the plot, as it gave the reader a full insight into all the emotional chain of events which ultimately changed the course of their lives forever. I’m going to keep this review short and sweet as I don’t want to go into all the intricate details of the plotline, because I believe this story should be devoured spoiler free.

“My decisions – my actions – changed so many lives.”

I really enjoyed this emotionally gripping story about love, loss, family, honor and making the ultimate choice. I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who loves their contemporary romances that pack a punch. Lia and Preston’s story is so poignant and breathtakingly honest you can’t help but be drawn into each and every beautifully written word.

The beauty of this story is that although it is fairly straightforward –no major twists, no big secrets - , it can keep you interested in it until the last page:
Boy has loved girl since they were children but he never said it, girl loved him back but she never expressed her feelings. His twin brother made the first move.
When they finally talk about how they feel and act on it, the result is messy and creates more problems.

I think I have never felt such intense heartache before, while I was reading a book.

The words are so simple but at the same time so enganging.
The atmosphere is relaxed, but the depth of what is implied is so intense.
Everything seems uncomplicated, but everything is a strangling for the main characters.

There are a number of relationships that are unfolded beautifully by the author. Between:
1. The two brothers. Competitive but balanced.
2. Annalia and Preston. Electric and breathless.
3. Annalia and Cole. Playful and childish.
4. Preston and his father. Educational and appreciative.
5. Preston and his mother. Chocking.
6. Preston’s father and Preston’s mother. Faulty.
7. Annalia and her mother.Pitiful and depressing.
8. Annalia’s mother and Annalia’father. Nightmarish.
9. Annalia and the rest of the town. Unkind and unfair.
10. Annalia and Rosa. Embraced and comforting.

If I could count the mistakes, Preston has definitely made the most. I think actually that the title “Preston’s honor” is well-suited to this book.

A man is only as good as his word.

Preston at some point he will need to realize that sometimes things happen, because they just happen. Either good or bad things just happen. And for no particular reason. And because of nobody’s responsibility.

Annalia’s innocence and honesty stand out thoughout the book. You don’t find easily heroines in books that have such an innocent soul – without being totally victims. Annalia is strong in her fragility. The reader becomes her fellow traveler.
I felt for her. I cried for her. I cheered for her.

I just needed a feelgood, inspiring book.
And the guy on the cover reminded me of James Dean...

PRESTON’S HONOR is total angst heaven. Mia Sheridan weaves the most beautiful, vivid and emotionally charged stories and this SIGN OF LOVE STANDALONE is no exception. It really was a joy to read. The trajectory of the story arc depicts guilt, loss, grief, pain and suffering all tied up in multiple layers of love. The love of a brother, a friend, a lover and more. It tore through my heart ensuring I fell for the characters and their unique story comprehensively. The way this author captures the aching desire of the protagonists is stunning. I felt the angst of their friendship, their burning need for each other when they frantically came together and desperate sadness when their lives fell apart.

The narrative opens with the prologue depicting a flawed heroine returning to her home town after 6 months away evoking immediate intrigue as to why? And wonderings of what had happened between her and the hero? What led to the circumstance where she clearly found herself in a desperate situation with only one way out? At first one may envisage that her actions are purely selfish but as the story unfolds, revealing a kind caring woman whose life has somehow taken her on a skewed path, the reader is able to garner more and more understanding with each turn of the page, navigating through the depth of the prose to discover the motivation behind all her actions. A motivation that I found to be utterly convincing and totally moving.

From chapter one onwards the story spends some time going back from the Prologue timeline to showcase the protagonists from an early age, their friendship and the way it develops into more for two of them and the ultimate consequence of this development. Annalia becomes firm friends with Preston and his twin brother, despite the differences in their economic backgrounds, their upbringings and the unfair discriminative attitudes of certain people in our society which I have to say is depicted with a thought provoking quality that I very much appreciated.

Preston's Honor is crafted with a large dose of exquisite angst and authentic heartfelt emotion that builds and builds throughout the prose. I felt it deep in my gut as the story progressed and I peeled away each layer of the writing canvas showcasing words that when placed together depict sheer beauty and gave me a breath-taking story that stole my heart, hurt in the best way possible and then made me feel all better again. Preston is a reader's dream. Totally gorgeous, kind, hardworking and honorable, the perfect hero at the heart of a beautiful story for fans of CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE and New Adult novels.

Full-on angst.
At all times.
In true New Adult fashion.

angst, angst, angst.

I just so happened to be in the mood for angst (who knew?!) so I basically inhaled this, and gave it 3.5 deserving stars for the melodramatically angstastic fest that it essentially was.

5 Huge “Back to the Beginning” Stars

“ I’m coming to see that sometimes the most damaging borders are inside us.”

Back to the beginning is the thing I loved the most about this book. Can you do everything backwards and then go back to the beginning? Can you go back and do things right? Go back and fix everything? I totally believe you can. I think if there’s enough love, there’s always a chance to get things right. Maybe the timing wasn’t right the first time, maybe it wasn’t your moment, maybe you were holding on to the past too tight or maybe you were just not mature enough to see it clearly. This book wrecked me, and then took me back to the beginning and put me back together, and I loved every second of it.

I love Mia Sheridan’s books. I’ve read the majority of the books in this series and have loved them, some more than others. At this point is well established that she’s just immensely talented and that her books bring all the feels. What doesn’t seize to amaze me is that every book is so different, the themes and plot lines are so different, yet they all seem to have the same effect on me. Once I start, I can’t put them down, the story just consumes me. At this point, I don’t even read the blurb anymore when it comes to her, this is an insta tour-sign-up, insta-one-click, insta-paperback author for me. But this book, I truly, truly love, this one is right there with Kyland, Midnight Lilly and Archer’s Voice, which are my top Mia Sheridan books.

So, what is this book about you ask? Well, I went into it blind, lol. I didn’t even read the blurb, so I had zero idea what it was about until I started, and I will not go into details about the plot, the blurb reveals quite a bit. The book is extremely angsty, which I love. My chest was tight most of the book. The prologue shocked me, you honestly don’t know what to think, where can this story possibly go, but then Mia takes you on a journey. A journey that spans many years. She takes you back to the beginning, to where everything started, and then again, where every re-starts. It’s quite a journey but I ask you to just trust the process, trust that even if your heart breaks, it will be put back together.

These main characters certainly go through a lot, and they also keep their feeling hidden for quite some time, what you also have to understand is that these characters are also basically teenagers for most of the book. And teenagers often don’t speak out, they often hide their pain, they often make assumptions and they not always make the more rational decisions. And how can you show any love if you have never been shown love? Then there’s also all these other relationships in your life that shape the person you become. The relationship between two brothers that love each other above all. The relationship between a mother and a daughter, between a mother and her son. The relationships you make through life, a community, the fact that we’re all immigrants, one community. This book is so beautiful, I can’t even explain it. It’s so much more than a love story.

I loved Preston, I loved his sense of responsibility, how loyal he was, and his love for Lia, even if he was a fool sometimes. And Annalia, well she was very special, she might seemed weak at times, but she was really very strong. I guess I identified a lot with Preston and Annalia because of my own experiences in life. I got married and had a kid at 19. I love my husband with all my heart, but the road hasn’t been easy, especially because we were probably not quite ready to act like adults but were forced to. So, I’m a firm believer in starting over, in going back to the beginning and in trying harder and never be afraid of making a fuss. I will also say that this is definitely not a love triangle, so not worries there.

I know I have been vague, totally on purpose, sorry J and excuse me if I make zero sense. I just want everyone to read this so bad! I would definitely go in blind if I was you. Needless to say I loved this book to pieces. The writing is so gorgeous and the story is absolutely beautiful. I loved everything about it and I absolutely recommend. I can’t wait for what Mia will bring us next.

I usually intertwine my quotes with my review, but since this is not structured like my typical reviews, here are some of my favorite quotes:

“The true ugliness was in the details, the tiny papercuts that sliced at your soul, and no one who hadn’t been dirt poor could ever really understand that.”

“Part of my love for Preston was like a slow-moving river that had gained breadth and speed over time. And another part came in short bursts of white-hot lightning, marking the very moments when the love in my heart had charged and intensified. And I knew this would be one of those flashes, one of those moments burned into my memory, and even possibly, the last one I’d ever get.”

“Lia made me feel weak in the knees. And maybe I knew what my dad meant because there was an achy pain associated with that knowledge.”

“So much time had passed, and in some ways he was a stranger; in some ways he was so familiar. He’d been my friend—one of my only friends. I hadn’t fully realized before this moment that I’d been living with a hole in my heart. A Preston-sized hole.”

“That’s what I’d wanted Lia to be for me—a gentle haven. I’d wanted it—desperately—and yet, I’d kept fouling it up, over and over. I’d pushed her away instead of gathering her close, a part of me believing that my punishment should include denying myself the comfort she might provide. And yet . . . in punishing myself, hadn’t I really punished both of us?”

“My decisions—my actions—changed so many lives.”

“We stood together by the fence where I’d once waited for her with bated breath, and I felt something inside me open up, like a flower that had bowed its head and shut its petals when the darkness fell upon it and suddenly felt the warm, unexpected glimmer of a sunbeam.”

“I didn’t know if there was any chance we could ever wade through the years of miscommunication and loss between us. I had no idea if there was any way to reclaim what we’d once barely begun. But now I knew we both hoped for it, and that seemed like a pretty damn good start.”

“My heart, it seemed, knew only how to beat for him, like the wings of a bird soaring through an endless sky. As blue as his eyes and as warm as his touch had once been on my skin.”

“Looking into her beautiful eyes, I saw my past and my future. I saw the young girl who had spat a half-eaten strawberry into my brother’s hand. I saw an amazing, strong woman, who had the courage to come back to me. I saw my love, my heart, my home.”

“She had always been moved by dreams, not just her own, but those of others as well. It was what made her so beautiful. As it turned out, it was also what made her fierce. She was mighty and she was strong, and to watch her in action was a sight to behold. But her gentle spirit never ceased to shine, and sometimes I still saw in her the quiet dreamer with a crown of flowers perched on her head and a thousand secrets in her eyes. And I was the luckiest man on earth, because now she told them all to me.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone from Sign Of Love collection
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Preston Sawyer lived and breathed the farm he grew up on. All his life his father taught him and his twin brother Cole about hard work and honor. But those value pose a huge dilemma for him when feelings for his childhood friend started to become more.

Annalia (Lia) Del Valle grew up poor. As daughter of a farm worker, she barely had anything and always felt boxed in. Even her friendship with the Sawyer brothers was bound by limitations. But one night, the line was crossed and it irrevocably changed the rest of their lives.

When I first read the book blurb, I got excited with the possibility of angst. I'm glad this book sure has some of that.

A man is only as good as his word. And I was currently pretty worthless. So why did I feel so fucking happy?

Preston was the dark brooding one. Even as a kid, he took his responsibility seriously. Sometimes I just want to shake him up and tell him to go wild lol!

All those years when I’d thought about Lia, the word that had come to mind was mine, and I’d denied it, tried to push it away.

Lia, even though a spitfire in nature, she locked herself up in a box with her insecurity - which was sad but also understandable considering her situation.

Truthfully, though, my life’s dream had just been to get out of the tiny spaces I’d always occupied—not just where I lived, but the stifling nature of my life in general. I just wanted things around me to . . . open up.

I like how Lia's culture and social position played a big part in the story. I also like how the virtue of honor which supposed to be a positive trait brought so much pain to the characters.

There was angst in the story but the masochist in me wanted more. I really like Cole and wish his role was explored more.

I wondered distantly if people who had once been stripped bare and cracked open could recover, too, and thought that it was at least worth hoping for. Wasn’t it?

Preston's Honor is a story of a couple tried by culture and an oath. It would appeal to readers who like romance story with trials and tribulations.

Well guys...maybe it was me??

Everyone seemed to love it but me.

I have to say that from the very first chapter I was already disconnected. As a mother it was hard for me to feel anything for the h of the story. I thought she was a bit meek.

Gemini is my sign and I was excited to get to this one. The author's works are hit and miss for me but I had high hopes for this one. Twins? YES!!

Turns out Preston was a bit too weak for me. I wanted him to be more alpha. I wanted him to stand up to his twin earlier on. Maybe it would have eliminated the angst factor that many love though.

Again maybe it's just me. You should try it for yourself and you may love it.

PS: many have seen the stuff that has gone on on FB this week. I was saddened to see this author participate in a mob like attack of a fellow reviewer. It will play a huge part in whether I pick up her future works. From someone who has written a few of my all time favorite books I was let down. As a reviewer it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Edited to add: if you're coming to view my review because of my PS. and you saw someone quote it without my permission, I will not be expanding my statement with anyone. Someone I actually have blocked but GR has the most ridiculous blocking system that doesn't even work. I stated what I saw and that's that. Don't twist my words into something they aren't.

Overall Opinion: I have to say that Mia Sheridan has to be one of my favorite authors! She always sucks me in and makes me feel with her books! After dealing with a slump of not being all that enthused with what I've been reading lately -- I was happy I jumped into this one. I don't think it'll go down as my favorite MS book, but I really enjoyed it. I love stories that start as the mcs as children and have their relationship grow with the character, and this gave me just that. I also enjoy it when we get characters from majorly different walks of life that find a true connection regardless of their differences. My issues were that they just needed to communicate better! It would've made their lives so much easier!! I also got a little frustrated with the h not sticking up for herself at times. Ms. Sheridan is just a great storyteller, and I'm going to continue to be on the look out for her books :)

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Annalia and Preston's story. They meet when they're young kids and Annalia's mom is a migrant worker for Preston's family farm. Preston and his twin brother, Cole, bond with Annalia and they become fast friends. They come to the age that being friends isn't enough, and both brothers are interested in her in a different way -- but only one pursues her. The boys go off to college and then after ~4 years they are reunited again, but things are not the same. They have some big truths to reveal and work through, some tragedies and new realities to cope with, and some sexy times...and they do get a HEA.

POV: This alternated between Annalia and Preston's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they've known each other for years.

H rating: 4 stars. Preston. I liked him. He was the protective silent type, which I always enjoy :)

h rating: 3.5 stars. Annalia. I liked her. She had a bunch of unfortunate things happen to her, so I really felt for her character. I did want her to speak up for herself more though.

Sadness level: Moderate. I needed a few tissues, but it never turned into an ugly cry.

Push/Pull:Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: No

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not IMO

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had good closure with a sweet jump ahead epilogue and a HEA.

How I got it: I paid the $3.99 for it on Amazon.

Safety: This one should be either Safe Or Safe with exception for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

"Make a Fuss"

description

Preston Sawyer grew up in his father's farm. He unlike his twin brother loved it and always knew that he will end up in the paths of his father carrying for their farm. Preston and Cole learned at an early age from their father that honor and hard work is the one way to live by. He was conflicted when he meets this young girl that he felt in love with; all he ever wanted was to protect her but when his brother wanted her too he needed to step aside and do the honorable thing he always thought he had to do.

"Everything that filled my soul was all around me-the land, the farm, my best friend and brother, and Annalia Del Valle. "

description

Annalia (Lia) Del Valle; always felt alone growing up in a poor environment with a mother that resented her and didn't showed love towards her. She felt trapped all her life and her insecurities accumulated over time. She becomes good friends with the Sawyer brothers. They made her feel loved both in their own unique ways. Cole with make her laugh with his easy character and Preston with his intense stare will make her feel butterflies everywhere. Their relationships were different even though the boys were identical in looks.

"I wished so much to be someone different when I looked in the mirror. Someone other than the unwanted girl with the devil eyes who had caused my mama so much pain just by being born."

This story was different for me; I have never read anything like it so I found it refreshing. In this book you'll see about the reality that some people are injustice and prejudice about culture. Also, how young people make so many mistakes so easily for the lack of confidence, insecurities but also lack of knowledge when all they have ever knows is to respect others and don't stand up for what you want you get push and pull until you can't handle any more.

Honestly; at some point in this book I wanted to bitch slap Preston for not seeing what was going on sooner and just assuming. Also, Lia naïve I wanted to smack some senses into her as well. And Lia's mother, even though I understand what she went through she had no right to raised Lia the way she did she is a mother I would be so happy slapping her until I can't no more haha. Oh boy I have some anger issues LOL. Anyway, one character I absolutely loved was Rosa. She was a strong female that made this book a fantastic story I loved everything about her character.

Overall I really enjoyed this story, readers looking for second chance romance and are not afraid to read a story about different cultures would find this book appealing.

As always, Ms Sheridan wrote a damn good story with so much depth and detail, that it forced me to understand why the MC's made the mistakes and decisions that they did. And as wonderfully crafted and eye opening as the picture she created was, I couldn't help but feel that my greedy guts needed more chase and grovel. Dammit Preston, you are such a dumbass at times! A beautiful and sexy dumbass. But still a dumbass! Lucky you got your sh!t together or I may have lost more hair on my head! God I'm such a petty biatch!

Still, I'm not gonna fault a well written book when it deserves kudos. There were so many important subjects and issues so eloquently and heartbreakingly tackled in this book, that I don't have anything left in me to complain about.

Told in dual POV with HEA epilogue. Highly recommended to those who love this author's works. I would consider myself a mildly concerned "safety gal" and didn't have any major "no no" moments that greatly aggravated me, however, some of the more hardcore safety members out there, may find some mild niggles in this, depending on how strict their tastes are.

Shoo! That put my angstometer through the wringer, but it was awesome! This book is why I love Mia Sheridan so damn hard. The feels, the rawness, the pain, the agony, the overwhelming love, the inherent goodness in her characters and most of all the exquisite writing. I got the lot in Preston's Honor.

That said, Preston irritated me at times - I was shouting at my Kindle for him to man up and grow a pair a couple of times. But as the story unfolded I got why he was like he was, he truly was a gentle, honourable man and in the end was everything and more that our wounded bird Lia needed. She needed a man that would love her with everything he was, and he did - since he was a child.

A fabulous read that will stay with me, just like Kyland, Calder and Eden have - these are still some of my all time favourite reads and always will be.

Blurb

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia DelValle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life.

New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Mia Sheridan = Hulk / My Heart = Loki

description

Seriously. My heart fucking ached. I cried tears of joy and happiness, and in the end, despite the pain, the emotional payoff was more than worth it.

I had been hesitant to start this because I'm always wary of reading books with any kind of love triangle vibes. Thankfully it played out in such a way that I was able to enjoy it. Despite the presence of two brothers, Lia only truly loved one of them, and only one of them really loved her.
I loved two brothers—identical twins—but it was only one soul that spoke to mine. One soul I'd always belonged to.
Oh man, I LOVED Lia and Preston!! Poor Lia broke my heart, because I could relate to her loneliness and insecurities so freaking much.
They would never understand what it felt like to wish they were someone else.
"It's very difficult to find happiness when you don't feel as if you belong anywhere."
Lia longs for a different life. One where she's loved, surrounded by family, and not struggling to get by. But from early on she is taught to believe that she is destined for only a certain kind of life.
"God gives us the things he wants us to have. And well, we gotta work within those parameters." - Townsperson
I didn't like the parameters He'd given me at all. But the thing was, I didn't think God paid a whole lot of attention anyway.
She grows up with Preston and Cole, but they come from different worlds and at times they go months without seeing each other. Lia also comes to believe that they are ashamed of her (those scenes were gut wrenching 😭😭) and so she shuts herself out in an effort to keep others from judging them.
I'd been so isolated—reclusive—for so long, it was just a part of me now, like my black hair or green eyes.
But Preston sees her, he always has. He defends her and cares for her, more than anyone else in her life.
I was waiting for her. I've always been waiting for her.
description

Then he learns that his brother, Cole, has "feelings" for her as well. Cole suggests they race for Lia, to see which one of them should get to ask her out. Preston loses and, despite his feelings for her, he agrees to back off and let Cole ask her out. ***Now at this point you might be pissed. I was a little 🙄😒 Like how stupid?? BUT once he explains why, and remembering that they're teenagers, I didn't think it was too crazy. *I should also mention that I'm not a fan of OTT alpha males, so I definitely didn't mind that he didn't take charge, throw her over his shoulder, and tell his brother to fuck off. I would rather see his development to get there.* His father always told them that "a man is only as good as his word," and Preston takes that seriously. He made a bet with his brother and lost, in his mind it's a black and white. I was still a little frustrated but that was more at Cole than Preston (which I'll discuss in a second). Preston almost immediately regrets that day, the race, keeping his word, everything about trying to stay away from Lia...
What happened when your words agreed to something but your heart couldn't be swayed?
So Cole asks her out and Lia, riddled with insecurities and some twisted words from others, comes to believe that Preston has no interest in her even though she loves him. She reluctantly agrees and they start "dating." But like I said above, I wasn't annoyed because their scenes together weren't really explicit and most of the time Lia is thinking about Preston. There was never a chance she wanted Cole over Preston.

The thing that bothered me about the "love triangle" was Cole. This was the reason for the (truthfully pointless) 0.5 deduction. I didn't like him. He was charismatic and I do believe he cared for Lia, but I didn't understand his motivations. Despite Preston's silence I think it was fairly obvious how he felt and for two twins who were so connected, I don't know how Cole never saw it and/or ignored it. Even when they return from college he talks about wanting to get serious with Lia and move her out of town. Why?? All the mentions of Lia and him hanging out when he came back from school are portrayed as platonic. He saw (slept with) other women in college and his instincts seemed more brotherly than anything else. So I just didn't get how he confused the two. And when I found out I almost wish that wasn't in there because it made Cole's fascination with Lia even more confusing (in my opinion).

description

So the brothers come back from college, and after a few angsty tension-filled encounters, Preston realizes he can't stay away from Lia anymore. I'm not going to say much about what happens here because that would be very spoilery, but once they get together their happiness is fleeting. A lot of things happen and mistakes are made by both Preston and Lia. But I was never mad, annoyed, or found it unrealistic. I actually thought the whole second half the book was perfect. After their trials, we slowly watch Preston and Lia fall in love like they should have done the first time and I LOVED seeing Lia learn to love herself.
She'd meant stand up for yourself, believe in your value. I'd been trying to find it in everyone's eyes except my own and that's why it was so easily taken away.
GAH I just loved it, the way these characters grew was truly amazing. They both evolved, but as I've obsessed about, Lia's was my favorite. I could understand some being bothered by her lack of a voice, but I truly got it, and it made her development that much sweeter! Since she was so insecure she often avoided conflict, even if it truly hurt her. My favorite quote by far is this one...
"Make a fuss, mi amor."
It's so fucking simple but I've been thinking about it nonstop and I'm planning on getting a tattoo of it someday. That's how much it, this book, and Lia impacted me.

**Those who dislike a lot of miscommunication might want to be wary of this. I would still recommend it because I loved it, but there were definitely situations where one or both of them could have said something to prevent certain things from happening. It didn't bother me because I truly believe that not "making a fuss" and trying to honor his brother were such a deep-rooted parts of who they were that it wouldn't have made sense if they had confronted one another. And the lack of communication in the second half made even more sense given the pain and grief each were facing.

Mia Sheridan is a master storyteller, she pulls you and you hardly realize you're drowning. But then you look up from the book and realize it's 3 AM and you're bawling your eyes out. She's definitely one of my favorites and I can't wait for what she gives us next! 💚

Also, I couldn't find a place for this quote but I thought it was beautiful and wanted to include it 🤗
Lia had the type of beauty that would last until she was ninety. It was as if God had decided to make her lovely and gotten a bit carried away.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mia Sheridan, I honestly feel like there are no words that can describe how much I LOVED this book!! The moment I saw you were giving us another beauty , my heart went into fan girl mode and knew I had to do everything in power to get my hands on it and when it did, well everything else disappeared. Let me tell you how excited I was on getting this beauty on my kindle. I had gone out to dinner with friends and just happened to check my Kindle app and low and behold, PRESTON'S HONOR was on my app...I squealed and told my hubby, "Love we have to cut this dinner short because I.Need.To.Get.Home.To.Read.This.Story!!! He chuckled and said so it's reading for you and gaming for me?"

I will try my best to tell you just how unbelievably amazing this book is without spoiling it for you because I want you fall in love with Preston & Annalia-"Lia", just like I did.

In reading the prologue I thought okay I know how this might play out yet I was wrong again because Ms Sheridan threw some curveballs in there that had me rethinking if I truly knew what was going to happen. In reading I think this story touched me even more because in reading about Lia's life I realized how certain were similar to what I had experienced, my parents coming from another country to the states to make a better life for us.

Oh Preston & Cole, the twins that had Lia's heart, each one in their own way, Cole being the funny & outgoing one & Preston being the more serious and thoughtful one. Yet, despite their differences Lia loved each one but in different ways. Seeing their friendships blossom before my eyes had me smiling and sighing, yet I realized one of them would might end up heartbroken and I hated that.

Once you start reading this book be prepared to be lost in Ms Sheridan's words because you will not want to put it down!! You will laugh, cry, b*tch slap a couple of people and fall in love all at one time with these beautiful individuals. And I knew this was going to be a tear jerker and that my heart would be in an emotional rollercoaster but I didn't know if I was going to survive it. There is just so much to this beautiful story that in all honesty I never wanted it to end. Ms Sheridan, please continue to share your beautiful gift & words with us!!

I CANNOT WAIT FOR WHAT ELSE YOU HAVE FOR US!! To me this book deserves 10 stars at least!!! -Kara, 5 stars

Sheridan brings the zodiac sign of Gemini to life with Preston's Honor, which was influenced by the tale of Castor and Pollux, the twins of Zeus and Leda. This author beautifully depicts the heartache and overpowering bond that only twins have for one another. As well, she forces the reader to believe in love. A kind of love that starts from the beginning, at first sight.

Preston was a man of honor, for not only did he believe in, but he took to heart his father's words of wisdom.
❝A man is only as good as his word.❞

As such, he was incredibly loyal, highly protective and fiercely devoted to the one's he loved. And he loved Annalia from the moment he laid eyes on her. But he also loved his brother, and when his brother suggested they race for the right to have "Lia" he found himself stuck at crossroads. The two made an oath, the person who won, got Lia, the other, would step back. He had not admitted his love for Lia to anyone. But the idea of his brother or anyone dating her, was terrifying. So with the hopes of winning, he agreed. And while he ran as fast as he could, he still lost. He lost Lia to his brother. As a young child, he didn't label his feelings for her nor did he understand them, but those feelings grew and as he watched his brother with Lia, he realized the terrible mistake he had made.

This book had two stories within it. One of love, and one of survival. Annalia played tough, thinking she could navigate life on her own. She was living in a home packed with disapproval and hate. Love was just out of her reach. Preston was the only one who filled her soul. He provided her with strength and momentary happiness. When he stepped away from her she was left with hurt and a feeling of worthlessness.

One passion-filled moment brought them together.

One tragic event tore them apart.

With this next book from the Sign of Love collection, author Mia Sheridan writes a beautiful, heart-warming story of fierce devotion, unwavering love and a gripping story of the extraordinary strength of the human spirit.

[4.5 stars]

What I love about Mia Sheridan’s romances is that there is a fated, larger-than-life feel to the love stories. I get swept away wholly… into the conflicts, the heartbreaks, the longing, the tears and the eventual emotional surrender of two people meant to spend their lives together. I felt taken once again with Preston’s Honor—the story of two friends with vastly different upbringings, whose love for each other grew through the years. But their feelings were hidden, lost by what was left unsaid, thwarted by good intentions and reckless promises between brothers.

“I gave her up for the honor between us, the honor I tried so hard to hold on to despite my feelings.”

We meet Annalia, the daughter of a poor migrant worker, a girl who grew up unwanted, but who loved the escape of playing with the Sawyer boys, twins Preston and Cole. Even as teenagers, Annalia (Lia) and Preston secretly longed for each other’s affection. But a brother’s promise kept Preston away from Lia, opening the door to misunderstanding and heartache.

“To hell with my word being any good. To hell with anything that didn’t involve my lips on Lia’s and the proclamation that she was mine, that she’d always been mine, regardless of contests or a spit-wet handshake, or even my palm on a Bible and the eyes of a thousand people bearing witness to a sworn oath.”

But one night, their emotions best their good intentions, and they collide with all the pent-up lust, love and longing they felt. Unfortunately, those moments of bliss unleash a tragic chain of events that would change everything.

Months after struggling with a life that should have been heaven, Lia leaves Preston and her new baby behind without word or reason. Each fighting a wave of despair, grief and hopelessness that would breed resentment.

Six months later, Lia is back, intent on reclaiming her life and those she loved. But after everything that’s happened, she returns to a Preston who’s hardened after the struggles he’s faced without her. It’s a gut punch for both of them.

“I needed to come to terms with the fact that Lia had always been my weak spot, and apparently even after her betrayal, that hadn’t changed.”

Through flashbacks from the past intermingled with the present, Lia and Preston begin to open up to each other in ways they never had, to see if they can heal and have a life together.

“My heart, it seemed, knew only how to beat for him, like the wings of a bird soaring through an endless sky. As blue as his eyes and as warm as his touch had once been on my skin.”

With so many poignant moments, you can’t help but be swept away by Lia and Preston’s story. So much passion, such depth of feeling evoked by Mia’s thoughtful prose. If you’re looking to get lost in a story that just makes you feel and feel and feel, Preston’s Honor is the perfect escape.

*Caution* - spoilers + lots of passionate swearing. This book is not safe.

I want to keep this short but I can't seem to find the words to express things succinctly. I'm filled with a myriad of emotions, namely anger at this book. Because if you've read a few of my reviews, you may notice I tend to be more emotionally attached to books especially if on a rare occasion there is character depth.

Well both MCs had depth alright...but they also had disease. I've also become more sensitive to cheating as a theme now, or "nonsensical drama" which wasn't the case before, because I was pretty willing to hack it and overlook things. It's different for every book. Every trope, every character view and my feelings are slightly different. Rarely will there be a book, with enough character depth, personality and an intricate point of view, that I will forgive cheating or find it somewhat justified. Likewise, I'm hypocritical enough to admit that there are others, heroines or heroes that I am unwilling to forgive, for the exact same crime because they lack that quality.

This landed into the latter. It had depth, don't get me wrong. But not to the extent I could forgive Preston's insensitive actions.

Romance books are meant to be romantic. I'm not naive with what comes along with them - it's not stars in the eyes writing. But it's such a shame, and leaves me feeling bereft when there's sexual intimacy with other people after the couple have met, and especially after they have feelings. So, I will clearly state that this is not a safe read. Heart wrenching, yes. Lovely, sophisticated writing, yes. But not safe if you are sensitive to such things. Some may not even put it in the "not safe" category, but I will because whilst they were not in a relationship, it was clear to me that he loved her, and in order to forget her, proceeded to be with other people while her virgin ass remained pure for him. There are no intimate scenes with these OW, but it's a clearly stated fact. It annoyed me because Lia already already cast herself off as the shit on the bottom of his shoes so this seemed to just intensify that. The one thing this girl seemed to have was Preston's love and even that was sullied.

My last thought was, Preston should fucked off back to the fucking farm. I'm not sure if you can tell, but I hated him.

I mean, I'm sure I could explain the whole plot but I know other reviews will provide the break down.

What you should know is that I could find justification in every one of Lia's actions - even in her mistakes - because of her vulnerabilities. Her insecurities. Her depression. You live through them with her. You live through her shame. I could even understand, and forgive the abandonment of her child. It was wrong, visibly I saw this, but I understood. Not only was she spiralling into depression, but she was still thinking about Preston, and how he would feel if she eloped with their child. She let him keep Hudson before running away, because she was felt unwanted, and unstable. But it wasn't that she couldn't take her child if she hadn't wanted to.

My greatest issue was when he asked her to restart their relationship six months later after she returns and she readily agreed. Sweeping the past under the rug. She had fault, yes. But I wanted her to say no. She was raw and numb after what he did to her the first time, she buried the hurt so deep and this time the priority of their child should have superseded their relationship. She should have gotten things in perspective before she dared to indulge Preston in happily ever after.

Preston couldn't quite redeem himself in my eyes. He was a typical asshole, but dressed up more nicely in a farmer boy's gear with sweet actions. He never treated her right. He gives her a little fumble and thought everything would be okay. For fear that this review will be too long, I will say that Preston was with other women during their first separation even though he was clearly in love with Lia sans a relationship. Despite his proclamations to be in love with her, regardless of passion, there was a constant insensitivity to his actions. Yes, she went out with Cole when she was 15. Whoop-de-fucking doo. If Preston owned up to his feelings, and if she had rejected Cole from the off-set rather than attempt a barely there relationship - a lot wouldn't have been lost. Either way, even if she didn't go out with Cole, Preston was dating Alicia by then, so clearly he wasn't waiting. Their second separation is unclear on whether he was with anyone because she most definitely wasn't. I believe that just angered me more.

Preston was her only. Seriously? If hypothetically, she was with another man, it felt like there was always a hovering label of a whore drawn over her head ready to drop.

“He'd watched me suffer for so long and not done something about it.

I was trying to work out whether Preston's mother was a closet racist or supremacist because of her social standing?

Preston didn't deserve Lia. Her kindness, her devotion, her love, her understanding and patience. She deserved more. He should have told her that there were no parameters when it came to her. I couldn't even get into their intimate scenes because I was filled with distaste towards both of them. Her for sweeping shit under the rug. Him for being a coward. One of the weakest male hero's I've ever read.

Honour? He had no honour towards the only woman who should have actually mattered.

I’ve read Preston’s Honor days ago and the story still haunts me. So much so, I needed to read it again hoping my emotions would stay in check the second time around.

I was seriously wrong.

It’s difficult for me to let this story and these characters go as it still has me feeling like a sobbing emotional mess. I really shouldn’t be surprised at this point. After reading all of Sheridan’s tales, I know full well that her somber romances ~ heaping with love, lust, passion, angst and pain ~ wreck me each time. It’s what her stories do.

However, Preston’s Honor nearly destroyed me. I felt battered, bruised and abused as Sheridan ripped out my heart, flayed it open, tossed it to the ground and stomped on it… before placing the shattered pieces of me back together again. I relished every moment experiencing Preston and Annalia’s soul crushing journey. They told a story filled with so much beauty and pain, it overwhelmed me. Although I adored the hero Preston grew to be, it was the heroine ~ my sweet innocent Lia, who seized my heart and completely annihilated me.

Taking me from childhood and through the decades, this is a story about a poor and neglected little girl and her love for twin boys. Preston, the serious one who owned her heart and soul from the moment they met; And Cole, a dear friend who was like an older, protective brother. Together, they all made mistakes and perpetuated misunderstandings that had me on edge. These characters’ experiences pulled on my heartstrings while I searched deep within my soul to find forgiveness for all their faults and egregious misjudgments. All along, I felt their anguishes, losses, joys and tragedies as if they were my own. Needless to say, my emotions were twisted throughout this read.

"Yes, I loved two brothers-identical twins-but it was only one soul that spoke to mine. One soul I'd always belonged to."

The Prologue had me on pins and needles as it described Lia’s situation, which made me uneasy. She made some terrible decisions that did not sit well with me. But as Sheridan held my hand guided me through the tale, I opened up to Lia. I understood her mindset, saw all her demons, and it did not take long for Lia to earn my affections. Seeing all that she had endured, as well as the way she worked to regain Preston’s (and my) trust and forgiveness, I could not help but love her character. Lia’s a victim of terrible circumstances and seeing her life made my heart bleed. I loved her strength, her determination to persevere, and her forgiving nature. She truly was a remarkable heroine.

And Preston... the sweet little boy I fell in love with grew up to be broody, sexy and extremely stubborn. His character constantly struggled to do what was right and just, failing at times, but his love for Annalia was sincere and immeasurable. He made so many blunders, which shattered Lia I was utterly heartsick. Nevertheless, he turned out to be a hero worthy of her affections.

Reading Preston’s Honor set me off on an emotional roller-coaster ride. This was Sheridan at her very best ~ her flawless writing style, the way she developed her characters, the captivating plot, the passion and heartache she evoked – it all touched me deeply. Bravo Mia and thank you for another wonderful read. Preston and Lia’s story will stay with me for a very long time.
