I need to come back and do a detailed review of this book. There was so much to unpack. I enjoyed this despite the heroine. Even in my frustration, it made sense so was able to just follow along easier than other book featuring the same type of female lead.
Wasn't quite feeling the book from the start, don't know how to explain it. Maybe its the ages of both Coco and Brick, felt they're too young and honestly not a fan, I couldn't identify with any of the female characters in the whole book even in small scale which is one of the top things that lead me to be interested in a book or maybe its the little unnecessary dramas here and there. Something was just a miss for me. But the plot was good.
This seemed like a Mafia style family organization with Cajun flavor. It also seemed like Brick and Coco were born into the wrong families and they were being held back from bigger and better things, by all of these swampland gangsters! An overabundance of betrayal, revenge, dirty money, over the top violence and raw, down and dirty sex.
Likeable: I found one of my fav dark romance writers through Amazon services. This book has a lot of interesting characters to read about. It has a great storyline/plot which takes place in N'awlings. A win-win, IMO. I see Collette aka CoCo (h) is drawn to Bryant aka Brick (H) in her pursuit of freedom from the restraints imposed on her by gran-mere, the First Lady in this book. And the history of 'Pops' and the Durant family is tied in with the Larue family (Cajun Swamp vs themselves)?! They all make a ruckus and I enjoy sorting out their chaos as I read.
Georgie and that Marcel are doing the most as their BFF. The Chastain and Lacroix families, whew...and yet, this author gives the reader a much needed comical pairing to balance the darkness in their story.
Not Even Likeable: I abhor that books are written, published, and sold with an astonishing level of grammatical and spelling errors that boggles the brain. Reading a chapter for clarity over and again...again is not exceptable. Especially when there's Google and auto-correct for the writers or editors for the publishers, etc. This a prime example of what not to publish-the Diva Pen and sell to readers-Amazon.
In essence, I will continue to use the library, bookstores and/or flea markets as a more reliable source for my reading pleasures. Not too sure I'll continue with Amazon service. #Itneededtobesaid #todaywasthatday #Hello...
This book ended with a cliffhanger on my opinion. Brick and Coco get a HFN cause there's still some shit that Brick has to deal with in regards to his father. The title of this book is kind of misleading cause the story is more than just a wedding. And I really didn't like any of the characters. For the majority of the book Coco and Brick are 22 and 23 yrs old. Their behavior shows it. Self-centered immature people. Coco hates that Brick uses the word f*ck when they're having sex. If this a sex only relation and you just having fun while on spring break why does it matter? She's quick to tell people she grown but cringes at grown words and actions. Girl grow up. Coco is annoying and thinks her stuff don't stink. There's a time jump of 4 years and for me the two only matured just a teeny tiny bit. Curious to see if there's a follow-up book. Like a said this ends with a cliffie IMO.
This book was so good, I just finished it and want turn around and read it again ! You know, in case I missed anything.
Really I couldn't put this one down and wasn't ready to let it go. I loved Brick and Coco! Brick is a soulful Cajun and Coco is a wealthy and priveleged creole young lady. Hen they meet passion explodes, but they come from different worlds which are remarkably similar. This is their story and takes you through their growth as people ànd as lover. They deal with a lot from outside forces, but it all aides in the people they become. I loved this book! Well done Sienna Mynx.
This was alright. I liked it well enough. I do have two major gripes. One, besides sex I don't feel we saw that much of the MC characters chemistry building. It was a decent size book but not a lot of real relationship development besides the circumstances. Two, there was a 5 year time lapse in the book, denoted only with a page divider. I think it would have been better to split in two books. Crazy I know, we all want the story as soon as possible. But you do not get a sense of time passed with the way its written so it lessens the effect of the time jump.
Brick and Coco is your everyday girl meets boy, girl falls in love, boy & girl becomes committed tale. This is story shows how the "haves" behave to become powerful. The reason why i gave the story 4 instead of 5 stars is because the writing in the beginning seemed not up to the "Mynx" quality. Im not sure how to explain it.
Editing could have been better. Kinda amateur-ish. I'm not a fan of romance anyway but I had to read it. It's part of a challenge. The plot was okay. The story definitely dragged out towards the end.
OOh this book, It was so....it just had its up's and down's. I loved it for sure, but Coco she pissed me off with how sheltered she acted. All her actions were so selfish. Of course Brick had reasons to be mad at her. Her family drama just wow...
Good until it got to the second act. Firs act was a decent retelling of Romeo and Julliet- very well done. Second act just dissolved into the, basic tropes ridden standard romance. I skipped through, because it was pointless. Brick had a abrasive character change and it was disjointed from the original character write up. Most of the conflict in the second act, was predominantly time wasting, immaturity and lack of communication. Literally all they had to do was talk and there would have been no issues (Coco even had permission from her 'husband' to interact with Brick). This would have made for a better HEA, unfortunately the book dragged on unnecessarily, especially because it felt like reading about totally different players. Sienna Mynx is rightly praised for her writing abilities - I just wish she would stay away from the clichés, it's like she's self sabotaging.
The background and the extended family of Collette and Brick was just weird and unpleasant. Brick’s dad impregnating a 14 years old and bringing her home to his wife and children when she was seventeen is a turn off to me. His wife later died, no surprises there, and this woman is now the matron for his family. This man also had children from all kinds of women and they all live together. Although a side story, it made the future of the H and h dicey. This made me so leery of the whole situation.
This book doesn't compare to others that I've read by Sienna Mynx. Even though I read it in three days, it was a slow read. Almost didn't finish. There were lots of unanswered questions. Still I'm not interested enough to consider reading more. Wasn't a cliffhanger but probably the start of a series. Don't think that I would read another one if it is the start of a new series.
I don't think that I would recommend this book as I would most of the books that ive read by Ms. Mynx.
Loved this story so much that like many other of Sienna Mynx’s story it could be a movie. I read this book in two days and that’s only because I had to go to work otherwise I definitely would have finished it in one day. I felt Brick’s and Coco’s love, and anguish through all their trials and tribulations. There were times I just read the story out loud because I really feeling their story. Every story of Sienna Mynx leaves me in awe and this is right up there.
Pleasing your family can come at a cost that is unattainable and ...... Loving and respecting your family is different than be controlled by their whims and aspirations Will Coco and Brick learn to live their own lives or continue to do their family's bidding?
Brick and Coco hook up for a one night stand but their attraction is so strong the discover they’re destined to be together. The chemistry between them is explosive and so intense that it jumps out at you
OMG!!! I really hope there is a part two to this book,is it possible to have a Brick and Coco series. This book had mW up late and not wanting to put it down. Keep up the good work Sienna!
I love this darn book. I was on an emotional rollercoaster. This just can't it it. There has to be more. What about her brothers. Does Smoke and her mom really hit it off. What happens to the new crime Pops is putting Brink in. Does the mom tell her son. ( Sorry I'm not putting any spoilers) I want her dad to fall from grace. He's an Asus. Do the brothers apologize to their mom and Coco. The story is great. The sex it hot. The plots are maddening and the suspense made me bite my nails.
Man, I hope that nobody is treating their children the way Brick and CoCo were being treated. They are crazy. Arranged marriage, wow. I was so happy Coco's mom came around, Dad was a lunatic. What kind of brothers would let something happen to their only baby sister. They were crazy too. But let's not forget Brick's side, Evangeline was some type of voodoo psycho, Dad is beating him up and skinning people, what the hell! I can't believe I got through this story. But it ended well, with me wanting more. Sienna can write.
