One Wild Night

New York Times Bestselling author Barbara Dawson Smith returns with another enchanting, unforgettable novel featuring the beloved Kenyon family...

One Wild Night

I have always taken pride in my bad reputation. Polite society viewed me as depraved and utterly dissolute, for I was a disciple of passion. Pleasure was my hallmark, women my pastime. That is, before the incomparable Lady Charlotte Quinton disrupted my life--again.

Due to a scandal of her own making, she had been banished from home for five years. Apparently she decided that a life of boring respectability was the key to her happiness. We might have continued down our divergent paths if not for a vicious attack on our families.

Tracking a dangerous criminal occupied my time, but the tart-tongued spinster Lady Charlotte occupied my mind--and my desires. Certainly no other woman in London was immune to my charms. Yet the more Charlotte spurned me, the more I vowed to have her. After all, I can resist anything but temptation...

Charlotte and Brand. This one was my least favorite of the Rosebud series. Even the Rosebuds in this one was not as dear to me. However, it is a must read because during her banishment Charlotte has changed for the better and we learn more about Brand's secrets. Brand does not come off looking so good for most of this one.

More like 1.5 stars. Pretty bad and I didn’t much like either of the leads.

No. 4 in the series. It is titled here as a Kenyon Family novel, but I have seen it called the Rosebud Novel. They both make sense. I knew there was a formula for the series and it became even more evident in this book. H/H have an adversarial relationship. H or H then realizes they really love not lust after the other person. That other person fights against such a possibility. About half way through the book the relationship turns to a more friendly one. There is a mystery involved and usually the heroine wants to be involved in solving it, but the hero wants to protect her against harm. He finally gives up and lets her in on the chase. Then, the Rosebud's enter into the chase and they come up with a plan to trap the perpetrator. The story ends with the 'happily ever after'. Although I do not usually like an obvious formula book, I do like this series...mainly because I like the characters and want to know what happens to them. Now on to the last of the series, One Wild Night!

Even though this is the 4th book in the Rosebuds series this is the first Barbara Dawson Smith book I have read. There are references to things from the 1st 3 books but they are explained well enough that this can be read as a standalone but I would suggest reading the books in order for a fuller experience. I will be going back to read the 1st 3 books. This is like a regency "who done it" book. Fraught with danger, suspicion, and lust Brand and Charlotte are reluctantly working together to find out who is killing off members of the disbanded Lucifer League. But as they delve deeper they find Brand being suspected of being the murderer. Will they be able to accept their love, find the murderer, and survive doing it? Read to find out!
