Twelve years ago, Miranda Moore escaped from certain death from the clutches of a serial killer known as the Butcher who managed to murder her best friend. He’s still at large and she’s dedicated her life to participating in the searches for the young women captured and killed since her own abduction. She’s also dedicated to helping find him but when the sheriff calls in FBI Special Agent Quinn Peterson to help with the case when another young woman goes missing, things get awkward. She hasn’t seen him in ten years since her quest to join the Agency was upended along with their relationship.
Stories involving serial killers are always unsettling but this one was particularly disturbing as Miranda is a survivor and shared her first-hand experience. The author manages to convey not just the horrific details but the emotional toll throughout the ordeal. The fear was palpable, at times more awful than the acts perpetrated on the victims. My heart raced for the entire last 25% of the story as law enforcement closed in! Miranda’s characterization as both victim and survivor was masterful as no shortcuts seem to have been taken. I’m glad she had an earlier relationship (a really strong one) with Quinn because otherwise their current reunion wouldn’t have been believable. It worked here.
This is a tough story but one I give high marks for its authenticity in story and character design. Miranda’s triumph is the most important element and her journey to that was hard. But, it’s one I’m glad I experienced. Beware, however, as the details of the Butcher’s cruelty are graphic and detailed.

Me gustó un más que la primera de la serie, La presa. Miranda Moore sobrevivió a un asesino en serie, aunque le costó recuperarse. Trabó amistad (y algo más) con Quincy Peterson, un agente del FBI que investigaba el caso. La cosa se torció y llevan años sin verse.
Se reencuentran ante el cadáver de otra víctima. Sí, me pirran las historias de segundas oportunidades y esta es estupenda. Los dos derrochan competence porn, algo muy necesario cuando hay un psicópata por ahí suelto. Se trata de luchar por sobrevivir un día más, como sea, y lograr salvar a más víctimas, y detenerle a él.
El suspense funciona muy bien. No es por el misterio, sino que la tensión viene, más bien de estar pensando qué va a pasar después. El único «pero» que le pongo es que de vez en cuando te ponen el punto de vista del asesino y eso ya no mola tanto, qué tipo más desagradable.

Fast paced and utterly terrifying plot. These books are a lot more suspense than romance. The heroine is tenacious and stubborn. Miranda is driven, even if it puts her in danger. The hero is steadfast and in control when everything is coming apart around him. Loved Quinn.

Each spring when the Butcher takes another victim it is a reminder that she survived while her best friend died. Now another girl is dead and local Sherriff, Nick Thomas, has called in the FBI to assist him. Now he has to face Miranda and tell her another girl is dead and her former lover, FBI Special Agent Quincy Peterson, is on the case. Quinn is one of the reasons Miranda isn't an FBI agent. Along with breaking her heart, he stole her career.
Quinn hated having been a part of the reason Miranda didn't graduate the Academy ten years ago. He loved her and wanted nothing but the best for her. He knows how obsessed she is about catching the Butcher and will resent his presence here again. This monster has hunted for fifteen years and left barely a trace. Quinn and Miranda will need to work together to find this monster while Miranda comes to terms with her very much alive feelings for Quinn, her worst nightmares and wondering if this monster is someone who is hiding in plain sight.

This was a good read. I'm glad I finally got to read this author as she's been on my list for ages, but I hadn't got to her, having been a bit disappointed with other forays into this genre. I love romantic suspense and, I don't know, I just can't find a lot of authors in this genre that I like. I love Karen Rose, who is my fave and she writes the perfect books for me, and although I didn't like this as much as a Karen Rose book, I think this author will be someone I will be adding to my list of authors to keep reading.
This book has a good balance of suspense and romance, so that was satisfying. I liked both the hero and the heroine, and was very pleased that the heroine didn't act stupidly (my number one hate in this genre) at any stage. She was a bit of a prickle at the start, but settled down and didn't keep it up, and accepted help and asked for help when needed, thank goodness. On a romantic level, whilst I liked the romance because I liked both the H/h, I can't say I really connected with them in a deep way, however, having said that I liked them and I think their romance was good - there was enough, but it didn't overshadow the suspense. I did try to analyse why I didn't become deeply invested in their romance, but couldn't pinpoint it.

I find that with say Karen Rose's villains they can be quite frightening and incredibly repulsive to read about, but I must have a tough skin or a sick mind because I like that (!), but the crime in this book didn't feel as horrendous. I think maybe there wasn't as much detail, which kind of made me feel like a bystander rather than actually being in the story, but for those who don't want the details, what's in this book shouldn't repulse you.
All in all, not a top read, but a satisfying one, enough that I will be definitely checking out this author's other works. There are two other books in this series, and it appears they are all standalone (with some common characters) so you can read them in any order. I picked this one as it had an appealing story line. I will be definitely reading the other two in the series.

Starting to get use to Allison Brennan's writing style. This was a decent read, and right up "kjen's" alley :)
Definitely a romantic suspense - the main character is so driven in finding out who the killer is, she falls under the subject "Obsessive". She is a very likable character with such a horrible experience in her past, has the strength of a couple of strong men - both vying for her, but it is plain which one her heart really belongs to.
A serial killer with a game plan has been running loose for a very long time. Kidnap women, strip them naked and anchor them to the floor in an abandoned cabin or two, make them his sex toys, starve them, then set them loose with a 2 minute head start, then hunt them down. The identity of the killer is not known for quite some time - little tidbits here and there, but nothing firm.
The local sheriff has dissension in his ranks, namely his next in command and is the main character's ex-flame.
As always, no spoilers here. Do I recommend this book? Yes to all of those who love a romantic suspense and who aren't squeamish.

Obwohl ich das erste Buch nicht gelesen habe muss ich sagen dass ich dieses hier ganz gut fand. Es war nicht unbedingt spannend bis zur letzten Seite aber es hat mich dennoch gepackt. Ich mag es auch wie es aus verschiedenen Perspektiven geschrieben ist. Aber für einen richtigen Thriller müsste es ein bisschen mehr sehr. Nichtsdestotrotz, 3 Sterne!

I was prepared to hate this since the one before it was so bad, but this one was slightly better. Once again it was easy to figure out who the killer was and once again the killer was almost comical. But at least this time I wasn't actively rooting for the killer. I don't understand why the ratings on this are so high, but I guess people who enjoy romances have low standards for the actual writing. I find them to be full of cliches and very unoriginal with writing that is mediocre at best. This is no exception.

An absolutely gripping suspense /thriller! It will leave you squeamish yet turning every single page. The characters and situations are believable - the good guys have flaws and the bad guy has reasons. It did get just a bit cliche' in a couple of places but never did it cease to hold on!

The Butcher, a serial killer who kidnaps and murders Montana college students, has taken another girl. Miranda Moore survived her kidnapping and torture and has made it her life mission to stop him. FBI Agent Quinn Peterson is called in to assist. He rescued Miranda 12 years ago and they have a romantic history. Miranda must face all her fears and insecurities the catch The Butcher before he kills again.
Miranda is a very strong character with a deep need for revenge. She has never forgotten what happened to her and her friend and it has affected many aspects of her life. The things that these girls went through at the hands of The Butcher were hard to read. The author does an amazing job with describing it all. The way he gets pure joy out of hunting them like prey is disturbing.
The two male leads, Quinn and Nick, the deputy, are great and extremely understanding of Miranda’s needs and wants. The way they both love her is sweet. Miranda did get on my nerves a bit with her stubbornness. There were times that I just wish she would listen to Quinn.
I enjoyed how the author had chapters from The Butcher’s point of view. It really gave the reader insight into his life and why he does what he does. There are times that I even felt bad for him. He went through quite a bit as a child. The ending wasn’t a complete surprise, but there was a nice twist.

I took awhile to get to this second book in the series. I enjoy the writing and style. I even like that there is a romance. In The Hunt, there was plenty of action and danger and I enjoyed the mystery and suspense of the serial killer case. I didn't believe the romance though. It was a second chance romance but it didn't work for me. I still really enjoyed the book and the case, though.

A combination of strong characters, a fast-paced plot, and interesting twists and turns. Allison Brennan did a good job of filling in the back-story so if you didn't read the first book in this trilogy you'll be able to know what's happening and why.

Es una novela que te mantiene en vilo hasta el último momento. Lo único que no me ha convencido son algunas escenas del libro donde no me parece creíble que una persona a la que quieres este secuestrada y vaya la protagonista ahí haciendo carantoñas con otro 🤪

FBI agent Quincy Peterson is called in for re-inforcements to help the small town police force, who 12 years ago developed feelings for Miranda and vice-a versa. can they set aside their differences?, will Miranda ever be the independent,strong and enthusiastic killer. Will she come face to face with the killer or if she does will she weaken at the voice of his?, will she ever forget the nightmares that haunt her? Will she over come her fear or will it get in her way. for anyone who follows pls read this one,you will be happy that you did. p.s the ending was a tear jerker.

I probably would've liked this more if there weren't too many parts written about how much the two leads regretted their break up. It was too repetitive. There were like three separate parts from each of FL and ML's perspectives about what happened and how they regretted it to the extent that they still hadn't moved on even after ten years.

Me ha gustado mucho. Se trata de la segunda novela de la trilogía “Depredador”, pero se puede leer con independencia de que se haya leído o no la primera.
La novela está calificada como romántica, pero, para mí, al igual que me sucedió con la primera entrega de la saga, la trama amorosa (más en concreto, el triángulo amoroso) no es para nada lo más importante. Por el contrario, es una novela que entremezcla el género negro con el thriller, o, al menos, a mi parecer. Desde el comienzo de la historia sabemos que hay un asesino de mujeres que, más que matarlas, las caza; de ahí el título de la novela. Pero no, no se trata de asesinatos sin más, desde que las secuestra hasta que las caza se suceden abusos, torturas, miedos… Por ello, en algunos momentos resulta un poco dura, ya que la autora no deja demasiado espacio para la imaginación.
A lo largo de los años se han ido sucediendo los asesinatos de mujeres; de algunas han aparecido sus cadáveres, pero de otras no. Miranda sigue viva, el cazador lo sabe, todos lo saben.
A pesar de toda la trama de asesinatos, secuestros y vejaciones, el hilo romántico está muy presente, pero, como he dicho al principio, me parece secundario.
He leído las dos primeras novelas de la trilogía y también leeré la tercera, porque me ha resultado adictiva hasta el punto de no poder dejar de leer.

Me molesta muchísimo que por haber sido escrito por una mujer, la hayan declarado como NOVELA ROMANTICA.
478 páginas, de las cuáles alrededor de 440 habla sobre una búsqueda policial para encontrar al asesino. Las páginas restantes son el conjunto (y creo que he exagerado) de partes que se centran en la historia romántica del libro.
Ciertamente, NO ME SALEN LAS CUENTAS.
Éste libro me costó 2,80€ en Amazon. Por eso lo compré. Está catalogado dentro del género de Romántica, pero exceptuando las aproximadamente 9 páginas casi al final del libro y las 4 ó 5 conversaciones cortas en relación, no es romántico.
Es un libro sobre un asesino en serie que suelta a sus presas cuando se cansa de violarlas para cazarlas por el bosque.
Es la historia sobre la chica que no fue cazada, la que escapó.
Es una novela Thriller, drama, policíaca... Mucho más que romántica.
Y además, es una buena novela. UNA QUE RECOMIENDO.

I felt like I was in a gruesome Criminal Minds episode. The writing was vivid and the scenes graphic. I could feel the characters emotions during the moment and in flashbacks. I had seen Nick in several other stories regarding the Kincaid family so it was interesting to actually see the case and time as a sheriff that is mentioned in those books.
The serial rapist/killer is horrifying and the scenes well developed. I did think a certain person was the female involved in the flashbacks, but I never did figure out the male until the characters figured it out as well. This can be read as a stand-alone, or in any order, but I would recommend reading these stories in order as many of the characters and cases do show up in other books.

Recordó una lección bíblica de su padre. Que el mal podía ocultarse en la belleza, que los corazones negros a veces se revestían de compasión. El mal no anunciaba con tarjetas su visita inminente. Okay, after I read her first book and gave it a horrible review, one might wonder why I would ever read the other books in this trilogy. A) I am a cheapskate and had already bought all 3 books. B) I have a fascination with absolutely crappy movies and this trickles over to crappy books.
The mystery and the story were interesting. The characters were better developed. The author, however, didn’t get the memo that to make a point, you don’t have to have to reiterate a message continually and constantly to get it across. It was like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.

This book was emotional as hell. I felt for Miranda, and what she went through but also admired her tenacity to overcome what she went through. I love reading about the relationship between Miranda and Quinn, how they met as well as how they got together. Quinn is one exceptional man and absolutely perfect for Miranda. He understood her, patient and selfless all traits which I admire. The plot was definitely intriguing and kept me invested in the book. When I found out who the killers were left me shocked because it wasn't who I expected. Overall, the book was well worth reading!

Es un libro muy duro, no me imagino todo lo que la autora tuve que investigar. Una muy buena estructura. Me imagino que equilibrar todo los aspectos en esta novela no fue fácil. Pero, me dejó la sensación de que faltó algo. Por eso lo expongo como opinión. El perfil de la protagonista muy bien llevado, pero, el del protagonista, hubo cosas que no me convencieron. En ciertos momenos actuaba con tozudez, pero, no se explicaba que había detrás de esto. Hubiera sido interesante verlo a merced de la pasión o el dolor. En ocasiones, me pareció demasaido plano o controlado. No tan normal.

I read this story in one night it kept me turning the page while fear shivered up my spine,
This book was not only a scary read it was also a also a exciting read.
The way the author manages to bring the feels out leaving your hair standing one ends, I honestly don't recommend everyone to read this it is not for the fainthearted.. I must confess it kept me up too the early hours of the morning until I was force to sleep because of how tired I was.

I would have liked this book if it wasn't for the fact that Quinn is so fucking arrogant and such a know it all and god i get it Miranda is traumatized but instead of helping and supporting her he took decisions for her and at every moment he was undermining her like seriously so its like you can handle the trauma but she can't and she could've handled if she had enough support but he had to be an asshole because he has a dick🙄

Von allen Büchern, die ich bis jetzt von der Autorin gelesen habe (4) gefiel mir dieses hier am besten. Das Finale war wirklich grandios und ich konnte auch gut mitfühlen. Auch die Anspielungen an die anderen Bücher von ihr gefielen mir. Allerdings habe ich die Bücher in der falschen Reihenfolge gelesen, weil ich nicht wusste, dass es eine gibt. Trotzdem kann man sie auch so lesen, weil die Anspielungen immer spoilerfrei sind.

The mystery is okay but the romance is over the top, sickening. Also, the author repeats sooo much background and feelings. How many times did we need to hear Miranda’s recount of her abduction, or being kicked out of FBI training, or her relationships with Quinn and Nick? Without the repetition the book would be half as long. Miranda is constantly reminded about how strong she is for surviving, but she is whiny and insecure.

Este libro me mantuvo al filo de la respiración , sobre la última parte del libro , que fué Wow .
El libro incluso no me esperaba nada de él , solo una lectura más , pero logró superar mucho mis expectativas.
